Kwak Dong-yeon joins Yoo Seung-ho and Jo Boa in My Strange Hero

Kwak Dong-yeon (My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Reunited Worlds) has confirmed he will be joining Yoo Seung-ho (I’m Not a Robot) and Jo Boa (Temperature of Love) in the upcoming SBS rom-com Revenge Returns.

Yoo Seung-ho will be taking on the lead role of Kang Bok-soo (bok-soo is the Korean word for revenge) and Kwak Dong-yeon will be taking on the role of Bok-soo’s nemesis, Oh Se-ho. Jo Boa’s character is Soo-jung, Bok-soo’s first love, and as adults the two men will fight to win her affections.

As teens, the trio were schoolmates but Bok-soo found himself unjustly accused of assault and expelled from school. Now an adult, he returns to his old high school to exact revenge and his path crosses with Se-ho and Soo-jung’s once more. Though Bok-soo has revenge on the brain, he’ll find that getting revenge isn’t as straightforward as he may have expected.

Revenge Returns will be the first time Kwak Dong-yeon plays a villain in a drama. His character is described as someone who by all appearances is a good-looking and good-natured person. But his gentle exterior hides the fact that he’s consumed by an inferiority complex regarding Bok-soo–and he has major mommy issues.

Kwak remarked of his upcoming role, “The character I will be playing is very different from the roles I’ve had in the past. I’m looking forward to challenging myself while taking on the role of Oh Se-ho.”

Set to premiere this December, the drama will have director Ham Joon-ho (Greasy Melo) at the helm, and will be penned by rookie writer Kim Yoon-Young. Revenge Returns will take over the time slot occupied by Fox Bride Star on Mondays and Tuesdays.

This is a star studded cast!
Although revenge dramas are not my taste, I could give it a try!

Yeah, I have no problem with Kwak Dong-yeon. He recently did a pleasant job in 'My ID is Gangnam Beauty.' Hope he lands a leading role in the future.

The leads -- I personally love Yoo Seung-ho and Jo Boa so I will definitely be waiting for this 'Revenge Returns!' (heart heart)

*sniff* I don't understand the producers/casting directors. How does this boy or Jisoo have a face that screams second lead?? one day, one day...

i can see why Ji Soo will always be second lead since he has that sad melo eyes that will make everyone cries a waterfall if he he get his love one-sided.

as for Kwak Dong Yeon, i don't get why is he still becoming second lead because i think in the future he will become a top actor

Oh yess, Ji Soo! I just noticed Ji Soo's voice might be a factor that he less deserves to be a leading man. I don't know, I hope I'm wrong.

I keep on forgetting that it is a Rom Com drama. The title made it sound like a melo one. heh.

Villain Kwak Dong Yeon is something I wanted to see, there's this certain look in his eyes sometimes that is very "villain-y" (is that even a word? haha) and I'm soo looking forward to him and seung ho's dynamics, *I already imagined* this will be good.

The synopsis sounds cliché, but I choose to keep my hopes up and the excitement because.. Yoo Seung Ho.

the villainy-ness reminded me of when we caught a glimpse of that in radio romance he had a sense of eeriness to him before we knew his character's motives. i can definitely see him pulling of this role.

Cool. But Kwak Dong Yeon was a total bad guy in Radio Romance. He was downright creepy and to this day I'm confused who he really was in that drama but it was defn on the villainous end. He was also a total ass in Fight My Way. I feel as tho I've seen him as a jerk so many times that I'm ready to finally see him be the good guy...

I will grant KDY this that at age 21 in his upcoming rom-com he is closer in age to high school kids that he was in RADIO ROMANCE where he played a MD-Psychiatrist which are what in their mid-thirties by the time they finish college, med school, residency etc.

Mm hmm agreed! Had to suspend some disbelief there but nevertheless he was stunning. He's a beautiful and great actor in his bad guy roles. So good that I'm afraid it'll imprint itself in my mind.

Kwak Dongyeon played a good guy in My ID Is Gangnam Beauty but I found his character pretty safe, especially since he was written as a flirty guy in the webtoon. I was so looking forward to him play charming and aloof.

Ahhh they did it. They finally found someone younger than Yoo Seung Ho to play his love rival LOL. I'm sure he'll have fun being the hyung now.

Anyway, love all three of these fantastic people. Can't wait.

Kwak Dong Yeon is ❤

Revenge and romcom don't click well though unless if this is a petty revenge something like Buamdong Revenge Club lol. Enough with Yoo seung ho and his tears please, give this puppy a break. Looking forward to this drama for these three - Jo boah finally got her lead role, that time will come for Kwak Dong yeon too.

I first saw him in Modern Farmer too! He was such a clumsy puppy there :D I totally got the scene when he got mistaken as a migrant worker because even without the sunburn, he has rather otherwardly features.
But the real jewel was when he asked Bulja to run away when the police caught up to him, thinking he was a migrant worker, because his dramatic expression and voice were as if he was in a war movie :DD

I like all these people. Yes, including Jo Boa for whom I'm actually kind of excited because IMO she just always gets typecast as the bitchy second lead lmaoooo.
Dunno about the premise of the story but hopefully it will be funny?and then I might tune in.

When I read "Kwak Dong-yeon joins..." my heart sank. I knew in that instant that he would not be the protagonist. However, I cheered up immediately that he would be playing the villain. Although I have only seen him in some really dorkable and cute roles, I can imagine KDY going dark. Anyone can play a goody two shoes but not everyone can play a villain.

I am more wary of Yoo Seung Ho in a revenge drama, I still remember the horrors of Remember, War of The Son. Hopefully this is more rom-com than the typical revenge story.

Random thought but it has become a habit for me to wonder about what age Kwak Dongyeon is going to play whenever his casting news come up because he definitely aged up during his last roles.
Back to subject, I hope he gets cemented as a leading actor if his performance turns out cellar.
