Happy Friday all!

I've been procrastinating over the past two to three days and that means I've been on DB a lot and generally caught new threads as soon as they go up. My comments have been first in many, many threads. I'm super embarrassed - please let it be second here.

@greenfields—I'd be laughing if I weren't crying. If I have work project, assigned reading or a paper to write, you'll likely find me vacuuming my keyboard, organizing my sock drawer or watching dramas. It's been a lifelong struggle but I'm getting better. As far as dramas and this delicious website go, I'm trying to position them as rewards—and it's kind of working. *quickly closes laptop and steps away*

I have to do my taxes, which were due April 15, extended to August 15 and now October 15 is the drop-dead final date. So instead I'm sitting here watching a bad movie from 1963 and planning how to spend the weekend watching all the new dramas. 🙄

So I finished my fanfic on Mr. Sunshine: Dong Mae's Story, and I look at all the chapters I wrote and am amazed. I am the laziest person in the world, and to actually think that I did that - wrote an entire fanfic throughout the duration of the drama is just mindboggling. I don't know if I would ever do such a thing again. What can I say, but that love for Dong Mae inspired me, and put words in my head. Thanks, everyone for reading it, and sharing that amazing, heady ride with me.

I finished watching Lovely, Horribly, and enjoyed it, though the second last episode dealt with the supernatural element way too fast. The last episode was draggy, and they kept showing scenes of Miss Oh and the second lead. Annoying, and weird. They wanted to please the fans, I guess, but it was jarring, and interrupted the flow of the story. PSH was very funny, with his pettiness and churlishness, and when he did the splits, I fell off my chair, laughing.

I attempted to watch the Fox drama, but gave up after 10 minutes. Switched to the Hundred, or is it 1000, stars falling from the sky, and gave that up, too, after 20 minutes.

Good morning Beanies! I usually don't post on this thread but today I just need to say how grateful I am for all the fun dramas starting this week. They are a welcome relief from the political news/drama going on here in the US.
I find myself so disheartened with our politicians (note - old white men) and turn to the land of dramas where the bad corrupt politicians always get taken down and go to jail. If only real life was that way.
This is a sad time to live in this country and even harder as a woman.
I know that many other beanies have lived through times in their own countries where you've gone through horrible political dictatorships and survived.
Apparently, this is my way of saying I'm feeling very depressed and despairing this week. But I have My Prince, Terrius, a Fox Bride, a Ghost Detective, a priest/shaman/cop, team of sexy Players, and a swoony CEO falling all over for an actress to help me through this long depressing week.
But mostly it's fun to read the threads and comments by all the Beanies here...
So Hwaighting!!!! It's almost the weekend.

I too have taken to escaping the news cycle with dramas. The neighborhood mom cartel in Terrius, our Ghost Detective's motley crew, and the trancendentally beautiful priest/cabbie/cop trio give me solace that evil can be taken down.

Plus So Ji Sub looking both hopeful and slightly horrified at the chance of a nose kiss pretty much made my week.

😬 it's funny-not-funny you should mention Mr Sunshine, as its picture of governmental corruption, bigotry, and abuse of poor people and women reminded me so much of modern day issues. Mr Sunshine also caused me to look into American history of the time and learn yet more ways in which we didn't distinguish ourselves internationally. Teddy Roosevelt doesn't seem so great as I was taught anymore. So I didn't even get away from feeling tied to current events there. I need another Secretary Kim.

@bbstl
You are right - it isn't funny at all.
What I was thinking when I mentioned Mr. Sunshine, was of the righteous fighters and the line of citizens who linked their arms together to shield Ae-shin. It was the stories of the people who were pulled out of their own lives to stand up and fight for what they believed in no matter the cost.
This is why shows like that affect me so much. They remind me of all the people in history who have raised their arms and hearts in protest against corruption and evil.
*The student protests of Gwangju Democratization Movement in 1980.
*Tiananmen student protests in 1989.
* The student protests in Egypt in 2011.
* The anti-war protests against the Vietnam war in the 60's in the US.
*The civil rights protestors in the US in the 50's.
*the people who protested British rule in India in the 1850s.
*The people who protested Apartheid in SA in the 90's.
* The protests in the Philippines which led to Ferdinand Marcos and his wife fleeing the country.
and on and on..............
It is shows like Mr. Sunshine and Taxi Driver and others that remind me and encourage me to be strong and be brave enough to speak out.
Especially in times like we are living...

sorry for the rant -
I really want soft and silly romcoms right now like Devilish Joy to get my mind off of things.

2

@stpauligurl thank you for your reply, which brought tears to my eyes while making me feel better, and inspired. I will try to think more of all those who have made a difference and remember that it's often two steps forward, one step back (if that 😉). And that the arc of history won't curve in a moral direction without being poked and prodded, I think.
Thanks for your lovely rant ❤️

2

Thank you @bbstl. Fortunately or unfortunately I'm old enough to remember most of those incidents (except the civil rights protestors), and how I felt watching the news about the tanks rolling over the students in China, or the students protesting in Egypt and how the militia killed them indiscriminately.
It was exciting to see the students leading the charge against gun violence in the US earlier this year - and I have hope that they will be the change we need.
My inaction fills me with sadness, but I think it's going to change. This past week has filled me with such anger and despair and fear so now I think I MUST do something.
I VOTE and will not be afraid and hope I can somehow be like those villagers who stood arm in arm against the Japanese soldiers.
Dramas and movies can be very inspiring!

2

@stpauligurl I'm old enough to remember civil rights riots, too, which we had annually instead of Homecoming every Fall at my high school. (No, not kidding!) That's why I'm so tired, it's been this long and we've only come this far? I live in a state that is probably going to send an inexperienced young white man to the Senate rather than return a female 2-term incumbent who's done nothing but good for us. 😡 I will work for her again and do what I can to GET OUT THE VOTE! ✊🏽
Good luck with your action! Have you seen the Ruth Bader Ginsburg movie yet? It's available on CNN On Demand and probably elsewhere. Wow, she did so much as a young woman even before the Supreme Court, what an inspiration.

2

Wow riots every week - was anything every solved? Yes, we need to support the people who we believe can make a change.
No, I haven't seen the movie about Ruth Bader Ginsberg, but you are the second person who told me it was good. I'll have to find it now.
I live in a mid-sized town in Oregon and our county is known to be a hotbed of progressive activity. So this is a good place.
Today I stayed away from the news and headlines and came home from being away and watched both episodes of Player. Very satisfying to be sure.
This helps me hang in there.

2

@stpauligurl oh, they were 'just' once a year and no, nothing was ever solved *sigh*. We were all so dumb then. I lived in Chicago and I think things improved a bit and then just got worse to where they are now.
Be sure to see the RBG documentary, apparently there's a fictionalized bio coming out for Christmas as well.
Thanks for the reminder to watch Player!

Ghost Detective is awesome!.. 3 dramas and i do like DC.. the ghost lady is as spooky as they come

DO probably is going to be the only EXO guy (ok a bit of BK) i will genuinely like and have respect for the character :) .. he is adorable.. has been in all his dramas.. what a super talented guy - music, acting, dancing.. 100 days is fun, only the scenes where leads are together, rest of it is pretty much a skip

Smile has left your eyes .. he he.. finally there is something on tv this year that is just.. well awesome.. SIG.. how is this guy not superfamous yet in korea.. like at level of park bo gum :( .. he needs to become a regular in movies..

No idea on other dramas, will wait for recommendation on other things..

Exams are over! Finally I get my life back. Never had I worked so hard in my life and it's not even my exams!

There was a collective sigh from everyone in the house because the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Boy was like an ex-inmate savoring his taste of freedom and the father relieved his days in the monastery were over.

I thought I would jump right into the new dramas and indulge myself. Alas, they have been largely disappointing. I do not know if it's because my crankiness spilled over but somehow I just got annoyed at little things. The only one which I enjoyed turned out to be The Third Charm. Seo Kang Joon is doing a marvelous job. The scene which had me roaring in laughter was when Mom saw his silhouette after he gotten that ahjumma perm. The sound effect was hilarious, just like in those paranormal shows when the ghost appeared. Then when Mom called out "Eomma?" I lost it. Joon Yong smiling at that was the icing on the cake.

Oh yes, that scene in The Third Charm. Had me shrieking with laughter, the the boy didn't mind at all!!!

I've started too many shows and am going to skip watch some or practically drop at least 1 until the end, maybe. I've been in a pretty OK mood, and have enjoyed most of them.

The riveting one for me now is the just begun, The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (from the Japanese "One Million Stars Falling from the Sky"). I have never watched the original. This version is supposedly not as dark as the Japanese version but it still has a way of getting under one's skin. Suspenseful, intriguing, disturbing, with a Seo In Guk who seems to spell danger with every look and smile.

First of all, I want to thank all the kind and helpful beanies who responded to my last week's mopey post! Sure enough, this community is full of wonderful people ♥️ By Saturday morning, my bad mood was gone. And my dad is quite well, he's on holiday fishing and baking pastries.
So now I'm mostly left thinking about mountains of work I have to do, but I love being busy (and for me more work = more 💶). But on Fridays I have more free time and this weekend I'm staying home to chill, so more time to watch dramas!
My husband is going away to a sports event and when I tell people I won't be coming with him they don't understand me. But I'm an introvert, I need some time to recharge so I could be social again!

Greetings friends!

After a one year break from kdramas, I resumed by finishing off While You Were Sleeping and binge-watching What's Wrong With Secretary Ki. WWWSK really exceeded my expectations; I laughed so much and the sizzling chemistry and romance sucked me in. The ep 13 wall-to-bed kiss scene will have to go dowb as one of the best kiss scenes in kdrama land. I am sad to say goodbye to this show.

I have watched the first 2 eps of Player (great action and thrilling) and also started Because This Life is our First. I am really excited to see how Jung So Min and Lee Min-ki's romance blossoms and am watching it cause I heard great stuff about it through this website.

Because This Life is Our First was great up to the last 2 episodes. Worth the watch. If according to your middle name, you'd like something healing as well to add to the romance mix, you may like Just Between Lovers. That show, to me, is still the best ever this year (together with My Ajusshi).

I am not watching The Guest and Ghost Detective, none of the other dramas are making me wait for their next episode. HMSFTS is good but I keep wondering that it would've been better in the hands of Kim Cheol Kyu PD of Mother, CT etc. He handles dark best. But all actors are nailing it. SIK as always fits into his role as he is that character. The only person I see competing him with that acting range is Jang Ki Yong.

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all doing well today.

Fall is finally here and so are a ton of drama premieres! I hope all the Beanies are finding a couple of new shows to enjoy!

This week:

Thirty But Seventeen - Finished this finally! ..... Loved that it showed strangers and friends who became a little family with a lot of heart. I'm going to miss that little family.

Your Honor - I watched the last episode but it kind of fell flat for me, especially since I kind of watched this show intermittently, which didn't help at all.

The Ghost Detective - Since this is not a favorite genre, I'm really surprised at how much I like this show. I don't know what it is, but it's quite good. ..... I have to add that, Lee Ji-ah, is totally good here as the creepy, killer, child/woman character!

Let Me Introduce Her - With four episodes left to watch, I need to know why the lead's husband used to constantly beat her. Knowing the reason most certainly does not justify his actions in any way, but for the purposes of connecting things with his character, why did he do that??? There's been no indication!

My Secret Terrius - So we have So Ji-sub in this and I've definitely been watching! ...... I hear the show includes some little kids and their mom. Heh!

Mr. Sunshine - It was quite the journey and I'm glad I took the time to see this. Certainly saddened by the deaths, but I can't say it was unexpected ..... although a part of me will always question Eugene's final plan/decision.

Player - Uneven editing throughout, but I'm choosing to believe it's still getting settled. We'll see. ..... Song Seung-heon seems more relaxed than I've ever seen him be and it seems he's enjoying himself in this role. The hacker guy seems a little too jumpy and nervous to actually do that job, but who knows. I'll give it a bit more of a chance and see what happens.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Hi @korfan
In Let Me Introduce Her, the reason why the husband is that way is explained at the very end. I was impatient with the show and skipped quite a lot of the 2nd half and jumped in at the end. Didn't feel that I missed much. Ending was good.

Terrius - is fun with nonsensical spy stuff going on. The neighbourhood ahjummas do a better intelligence operation. 😂

@growingbeautifully Regarding Let Me Introduce Her, oh ok! I have four eps to left to watch so I'll find out soon then. I've just been wondering for the longest time, because all I've seen him do is argue with his mom, work at the tv station, have his affair moments with his mom's secretary, and always being about the lost phone. Suddenly one day there was a silhouette of him hitting his wife ..... I was like, huh? I thought I had missed something.

Oh, the Terrius neighborhood ahjummas should run a clinic to show "intelligence people" how it's done! *laughing* They're great!

I've taken one day off and it feels so good to enjoy lonely time!

I'm looking for the Best Divorce: hopefully it will be available on Netflix. It's the only way to watch it legally for me...

But before that, i'd like a lot to watch the original j-drama: does anyone have a link for a good quality streaming?

This week started off so well. I felt excited towards dramas again. Lots of intriguing shows. I’m happy about Beauty Inside and My Secret Terius. But I started feeling iffy on Wednesday and now I really caught a cold. It feels like I get sick whenever the season changes, but the hot weather in my area refuses to leave. -____-
Just want to watch dramas all day lol, but I’m still at work.

Started watching The Guest again instead of only relying on the recaps. The first 2 episodes were actually the scariest. I still avoid looking at any gruesome scenes, scary possessed faces, and turn the volume down when necessary. The story is just so interesting that I feel compelled to watch. XD

Hope everyone is having a better Friday than me. ^^

I easily get scared and that's why i avoid such material but i watched because curiosity once again got the best of me.
My sister doesn't even falter watching this kind of stuff.
I had mentioned it several months ago that boys can get scared and girls can be brave too.

As i always say Music has great influence on human beings. Just watch the show without any voice and half of the fear will be gone.

The Guest - This show is still going so great. No more overly gory or scary scenes but Ep 8 has spirits' faces that you may prefer not to peer at. I use the SHIFT RIGHT ARROW to skip 3 seconds into the show to avoid too much horror. And yes, turning the volume way down, really helps!!! 😆

Little Women - 150 years

Should i read it or watch its anime now? One more time.

TOUCH - I can say its different kind of love where even happy things make you upset because you want to see your loved ones future aka present life.

I spend a bit too much time on Politics and Geo-Politics read and discussion. Watch and read too much of politics related stuff.

I can say it is a little reaction towards new rise of Right Wing and mostly because of my own ambition towards contesting mayor election and then step into national politics.

Hi all! It's Friday thank goodness. I'm still going strong with 100 Days. There's so many other drama that are new or coming out it's hard to know what to start watching next! I'm trying I'm Not A Robot, but it hasn't pulled me in yet. I'm tempted to switch to Are You Human? on the strength of tumblr gifs alone.

Hi Everyone and Happy Weekend!

It's 'Children's Day' over here and I had a break from my sessions with kids. Was supremely happy to be able to watch a few shows. Actually I'm watching too many shows. How I get away with not beating myself up about it is by ensuring that I spend time with family, do some 'study', clear a bit of a mess (not the big mess but the small ones) and pop in to check/answer work email. 😇 No I'm not really an angel, but more kdrama possessed and not demon possessed at all!

Tomorrow I'll be hanging out with kids (other people's kids) as they have more little celebrations for Children's Day. I'm gonna chill and enjoy myself like a child, although I'm sure the kids who know me will call me out on it!!! 😂

Happy weekend beanies, in the last 2 OT, I asked for beanies recommendation dramas to watched with airport/aviation settings to motivate me doing my better job. But turns out a week later after I downloaded The Good Witch, I was suddenly being fired by my boss because they can't keep me longer there. Worse after I got fired, I can't applied anywhere because I haven't got any certificate of graduation, and aviation themed drama is almost everywhere. So that's why I am full-time in DB, finishing APAD and The Best Hit, continuing Mr. Sunshine and Flower Boy Next Door, start watching Terius Behind Me, Player, Fox Bride Star, The Beauty Inside, and Blood. May God bless my eyes for watching all of these oppas.

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Are you waiting for your certificate or is there something you need to finish to get it?

Of the dramas you're watching, I really liked The Best Hit and Flower Boy Next Door for being uplifting.

Thanks for your concern. I just waited for my certificate.

Yoon Si-yoon is really that bright, silly and OTT in both dramas and it is quite reversal to his 1N2D personality 😂

Hi @therevels. I hope your situation improves very soon. Taking in some YSY should lift your spirits. I haven't seen THE BEST HIT yet but it has been recommended to me several times. I thought he was sweet as Kang-ho in YOUR HONOR. Good luck!

Thanks for your kind words bongsoo! I will recommend The Best Hit only if they just have more consistency in the end. I need to find time for watching Your Honor since I already watching 7 dramas now, and I still had 6 untouched dramas in my computer plus 4 untouched dramas in my phone...

Happy Friday Beanies! It's been a pretty busy week this week with the next couple weeks getting busier. Our company is preparing for the Holiday season (It's barely October!) but I've managed to squeeze some watching in.

Sweet Dreams Another Chinese drama. This has my sweet Phoenix (Deng Lun) from Ashes of Love in it. It's a cute drama. I was annoyed and embarrassed by Qi Qi's obsession with Bo Hai in the beginning but thankfully she got over that within the first couple episodes. This is a really long drama for a rom-com and it's starting to feel that way. I am only half through the drama also (there are 49 episodes!). I'm surprised that there is so little of the dream parts, I was expecting a lot more, especially since they are fun. Overall it's a cute drama and enjoyable. Hopefully it stays that way!

The next dramas I am planning to watch is 100 Days My Prince, Terius Behind Me and Bloody Romance.

CRISIS is my only jdrama which I really enjoyed. I watched it earlier this year after another DB recommendation. BORDER looks very interesting. Crime is my No. 1 genre. I also like the episode count for jdramas. Thanks @sailormars and @noobita.

Any year is good. I’m feeling a bit meh about both though I did follow the recaps. Is this what is called a slump?! Thank you very much for your recommendations

Gangnam Beauty was surprisingly good.
30but17 was cute but pretty stupid.
Devilish Joy is pretty cute.
Beauty Inside is starting strong, but only 2 episodes in.
What's Wrong With Secretary Kim was cute and feel good but lasted too long.
1% of Something is the ultimate cute, feel-good drama and is a little older.

Hi beanies,
I'm hyperventilating thinking about all the drama episodes I'll miss this week while visiting Mom. Not that I'm not happy to be going to see her, but I know it will be like trying to pick the ball under the right coconut game when I return as I try to catch up on my drama viewing system is all messed up. Silly, and here I thought I was more flexible than that, but I've got several K-shows in the mix that I'll be behind in ~ Player, 100 Days My Prince, Ghost Detective, My Secret Teruis, The Third Charm, Bad Papa, New Journey to the West season 4, Dancing High, Radio Star, King of Mask Singer, LoJ, I Live Alone, Hello Counselor, Happy Together, 1N2D, Baek Jong Wons, Your Quiz on the Block, All the Butlers, Immortal Songs 2, Devilish Joy . . . but have no fear! I shall do my best to marathon when I get back.

On another topic, I got a little National Parks passport as a gift - it's a booklet that you stamp at the visitors' center at each stop. I hope to make it to a couple of parks on this trip. Anyhoot, I'll check back in a couple of weeks, keep the K-drama light burning!

Wow, you sure are a busy watcher! Trips and visits to family/friends also mess up my drama watching schedule. But if I have the time, I sneak in some drama time after my parents or in-laws have gone to bed! Mwahaha!

Yes, I might sneak a show or two on my phone late at night after everyone else's bedtime! I really do a lot with my brothers, too, when I visit home, and a couple of cousins have contacted me when they heard I'd be in town. We always have a good time!

I decided to drop it. It began as a mess and continued in messiness to the parts I skip watched to... I'm just assuming it ended in the same state. Did they ever get their protagonists to tell apart which ghost was doing which thing to which person for which motives? 😖

OT week 86! “Dear Today, Please don’t suck.” That’s what my deep thoughts calendar told me today. And I’m running with it. How was everyone’s week? I have a kind-sorta-really important meeting this afternoon which (hopefully) corrects a money leak happening at work. We’ll see though. If it is what it looks like, it’s going to be substantial. So, please don’t suck. Otherwise, lots of ancillary things going on as well, and I hope that it all works out in the end, which it probably will, maybe, hopefully (I don’t sound too sure, do I?).

What did I watch this week? “Dancing High!” Not an entire episode or anything, but a couple half to ¾ episodes. I’m always way impressed with people who can do things I can’t even begin to do, and these 13-19-year-old kids are no exception. And I like watching Gikwang’s reactions to his “kids.” He wears his heart on his face and I love it. He is definitely more nervous than the dancers when they perform. It’s strange seeing him so anxious, because in performances, he’s so suave. So, I’ll probably keep watching this on my kdrama sabbatical.

I also caught most of the second episode of “The Beauty Inside.” Now, Seo Hyun-jin is my girl, and I like Lee Min-ki too, but I also LOVED the movie, and am having a hard time switching gears here. So, I probably won’t be continuing (and I probably wouldn’t have anyway).

“My daughter and the math genius: the arrival of the second lead”

Daughter: S is now promoted to my math class.

Me: Oh, really, this late in the year?

Daughter: I think she has to take 2 more tests to get in, but I think she will.

Me: Well, both her parents are math professors, so she’s got the ability. She also made it into the math competition too. (FYI: S is half Japanese and is adorable BTW.)

Daughter: She’s also in the same reading group as me and the math genius. The teacher said we can read anything in our group and don’t have to read the same book, so she’s reading “Romeo and Juliet” and I’m reading “Pride and Prejudice.” *Hands me the note from the teacher*

Me: *Reading note with several books already on the list including Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Moby Dick, The Old Man and the Sea, etc.* “Your child has tested above the reading levels where there are appropriate books in our class and the school library. They will be allowed to read books on their level, but I would appreciate if you would help them find books that are appropriate and maybe we can find them at the public library.”

Husband: *To me* Remember when we thought she was learning disabled?

Me: So I expected S and daughter to be in the same reading group (they’ve written books and stories together), but also math genius? And S is in now in the same math class too? *Smelling a love triangle a mile away*

Moral of the Story: Every good drama has a second lead, apparently *rolling eyes hard.*

2nd moral: I guess it's appropriate she's reading "Pride and...

3rd moral: Today, please, please, please don't suck! For me and my fellow Beanies!

She is indeed reading good research material for the impending math team love triangle. Could an upcoming competition, and exposure to exotic other potential suitors lead to a love square?
