Park Bo-gum and Song Hye-gyo explore Cuba in new Boyfriend teaser

tVN’s noona romance Boyfriend has just released their first video teaser featuring leads Song Hye-gyo (Descended From the Sun) and Park Bo-gum (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds). Boyfriend is a chaebol romance story — with a twist. Our chaebol is a privileged divorced single mom, while the story’s Candy is a young, free-spirited man (Man-dy?).

Song’s character, Cha Soo-hyun, seems to have it all, but her life hasn’t been entirely happy. She’s feels trapped in a sheltered life; unable to make decisions for herself. Park’s character, Kim Jin-hyuk, is a total free spirit who’s poor but content with his life. The two meet by chance and eventually fall in love with each other.

Opening in Havana (oh-na-na), we see a smiley Park Bo-gum exploring the city with his camera in hand. In a neat bit of symbolism, every shot of Park is in vibrant color, while every shot of Song Hye-gyo is in monochrome. Whereas Park explores and interacts with people, Song Hye-gyo is nearly always alone. At one point, Song drives past Park Bo-gum and she turns to look back at him. We see the pair finally come face to face, the screen split in colored and monochrome halves. As Park Bo-gum approaches Song Hye-gyo,a wave breaks Havana’s iconic sea wall (called the Malecon) and color sweeps into Song Hye-gyo’s half of the frame. The teaser ends with the entire frame now in color and the couple facing each other with smiles.

The teaser is beautiful and dreamy so I only have one complaint — the hair. Even after I saw the script reading photos I’d been hoping the actors would have different hairstyles but clearly we’re sticking with the long hair for Park Bo-gum and the short hair-bangs combo for Song Hye-gyo. Maybe the hairstyles will grow on me? I’ll have to tune in on November 28th to find out.

I'm intrigued. Although, I have to admit, when the waves crashed against the sea wall I couldn't help but giggle. I felt like I was watching an advertisement for a perfume or something else fancy. Anyways, after re-watching the teaser I got the feeling that there's potential for this drama. I'm hoping for a whimsical feel throughout the drama.

On paper the story sounds predictable, i hope the execution will make up for it.

So the hair is a symbolism of their characters. The free spirited wavy long locks and the perfectly short no-nonsense bob. 🤔

In theory I get it but I still hate SHK’s hairstyle! She’s a beautiful woman... that hairstyle makes her look somehow ordinary...

Cannot agree with you more. She's so beautiful. Enhance it! I've noticed that kdrama does this to lots of lady characters though.
The wispy Bogum hair is triggering flashbacks of Strongest Deliveryman.

because k drama knows 90% of revenue comes from women.. so keep men shining and shining woman subdued :P

kidding, but have to agree ... not just b'ful she is THE most b'ful korean female celeb i have seen. The only other lady i'd call drop dead gorgeous pretty is this lady from a reality show.. heart signals season 2

That's a shame. The ladies are beautiful outside their kdrama styling. I haven't seen Heart Signals but the leading lady in Beauty Inside is striking. It might be the lighting, the camera angles, or the way they did her eye make up but I find myself staring at her A LOT! She looks great in that show.

Pfft, I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by their hairstyles.
This is the first time I kept tabs on a drama since before it was even born. From the long-awaiting confirmation of cast that took over a month (people bothered about the age difference and the married-to-his-best-friend issue) to the release of the first teaser. It's like watching a baby grow, as in very slowly.
I never would've "read between the lines (or in this case frames)" like you did about the colors. Wow.
Havana oh na na...

I dig his hair, despite it being too much on the nose (he's a free spirit, he's artsy!). Maybe because my husband had a very similar hairstyle when we first met and I'm easily emotionally swayed.

I can't imagine how would a romance drama about two people of a different personality meeting and then falling in love fill 16 episodes. I have a feeling it will be like other tvn dramas with a lot of drawn-out scenes, stunning cinematography and emotional music bordering on the saccharine and only confidently relying on two big names in the kdrama industry.

This drama is going to suck purely because of the writer. None of the dramas written prior have been close to even average. The PD has a lot to make up for, but flashy directing can only take you so far.

I mean, apart from I hear your voice, and secret love affair (which I haven't watched yet), I don't think I have know from any other noona romance that is worth watching..... 🙄
You guys could help me if I am wrong.

Secret Love Affair is a must-see in terms of noona romance...rather in terms of Kdrama. I think it's a classic. It was well-executed, went beyond the romance and talked about corruption in general. I binged-watched it and it was so intense. Recommend it!

I Hear Your Voice is one of my favorite dramas but Witch's Romance is another favorite of mine. It was also what introduced me to Park Seo-Joon. I Need Romance 3 is another good (and sexy) noona romance. I thought Dalja's Spring was cute. And another one I loved was Flower Boy Raymun Shop. Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy is an older one and hard to find but it's another good one.

I love Noona romances lol

I hear your voice . yeah, i remember watched it (though not finished it), and surprisingly it didn't give me an eerie feeling at all. plus LJS was so glowing over there. i mean, he's literally glowing like all the camera lights were united focusing on his already porcelain skin. his skin is inhumane.

You should actually finish it. I think it has a beautiful message at the end: not to become evil hating even those who hurt you. It is ok to tell, because there is also all the action and how you can come too that conclusion... even for yourself, it will be your own journey.
I hope you finish to watch it. I have watched that drama at least two times 😬

Sigh. I hesitate to even comment--because Drama Beans is one site I visit to avoid politics. But I have lived near Cuba. I have good friends who still have family in Cuba. And I probably won't watch this. (And that's all the negative I'm gonna say.) I hope it's good. I admire Bo gummy. I hope it's well written, well acted and that everyone who watches it loves it and that it is a successful drama. I don't wish it ill. Neither is this a comment about anyone who decides to watch it and enjoys it.

But, I am still intrigued to watch it...

I want to watch this because I like Bo Gum from seeing him on Hyori's B&B. I've only seen him Naeil's Cantabile and I Remember You, nothing where he was the lead. I'm kinda excited for this but I wish the lead actress were different. I really like Song Hye Kyo but not with Bo Gum. Since he's a free spirit and she's longing to be freed, I want to see kisses, see them embrace and such. She's a bad kisser and I'm sure it will be weird for both of them since his friends with her husband. Ehh, guess we'll see what happens.

I think Park Bo Gum's long hairstyle is suitable for the character (a carefree person), and it looks good on him too.
Unfortunately Song Hye Kyo's hairstyle is quite far off from the character she is playing here. A chaebol hairess usually look more sophisticated than THAT bang (same bang with the one she has in DoT, and same bang with my toddler girl). It made her look like a kid too. It doesnt look like a single divorced chaebol mom. I think the hairstyle is more suitable for roles like kindergarten teacher, student, freshman, volunteer worker, social worker.

I agree with your SHK observation. Maybe they're trying to make her look younger to shrink the age gap or show that she's not a typical chaebol heiress? Just guessing.

I was thrown off by his hair when we first saw pics, but now I'm used to it. Plus, recent photos of him show him with short hair, so I bet his character cuts it after Havana.

Anyway, I'm super excited and this teaser was BEAUTIFUL.

I love the entire look of this. I think Bogum’s hair is as perfect as a summer dream. He has THE BEST closed lip smile. Song Hye-Kyo looks beautiful in this as well and I totally see the serious chaebol with that bob. I like how she looks here better than DOTS. I’ve only seen Cuba passing by in the distance while on a cruise ship but as it recently was opened again for US tourists, my friend went and was enchanted by the people. I hope some of that permeates through the story.
