I'm surprised that Lawless Lawyer wasn't an option for Best Couple, Best Villain (which had two juicy ones), and Best Squad.

I still would have chosen my JBL couple, because they had so much more focus than my other favorite couple from Lawless Lawyer. It's not often that we get a couple that genuinely cares for each other and acts like adults with no head games or guessing games.

Good points @tsutsuloo. LAWLESS LAWYER produced two great villains and both are shoo-ins for the K-Drama Hall of Fame of Villains. Entering the Legal Division is Judge Cha Moon-sook (played by Lee Hye-young) and entering the Political Division is Ex-Mayor Ahn Oh-joo (played by that scene stealer Choi Min-soo.)

Side note, this poll just made me realise how few kdramas I was able to complete this year.

Despite 2018 being a great drama year for me, it was really hard to vote this year. A lot of my favorites weren't options, especially in Favorite Character.

Aah.. It's that time again? I feel like my vote wouldn't really make any difference, so I'll just read the drama's description only for some good laughs

Too bad we don't have a Most WTF Moment because Black Knight would be a strong contender with "Random modern dance to Gothy music performed by assistant while witch sits demurely on couch." The assistant is played by an actual dancer/choreographer so I guess they just had 3 minutes to fill and wanted to let him show off. Still. It was bonkers.

Even though I had watched 15 2018 dramas, most categories I couldn't even vote for because the dramas I watched weren't on the list or the ones listed weren't ones I really liked. I've realized that I really didn't care for most dramas this year. My favorite drama was Just Between Lovers (which was excellent), but other then that, most of the others were very forgettable and not the greatest. :( Hopefully next year will be a better year for dramas for me.

I wish there was a category for best OST! There were several great ones this year.
2018 was sadly a little cold for me in terms of dramas. Or perhaps I didn't watch the best ones (bookmarked them to watch over winter break!).
There were several that I dropped/took a long time to complete because the story line dragged mid -way. Here's hoping 2019 brings some great ones!
still there were some great performances. some really good OSTs.

I tried. I could not get past the first episode. It was too much like real life, and when you have money issues you REALLY don't watch to watch someone else struggle with money issues. Way too close for schadenfreude!

oh please try again because the story is really about the SUPPORT characters (in the wake of dire circumstances), the ensemble casts' character -- it is so heartwarming and endearing!

that is the central theme of the story, it brings everything together. the story is totally uplifting in the end.

The show that I was most excited about that I couldn’t finish despite wanting to—unless skipping 6 episodes and watching the last episode counts as finishing—was PRETTY NOONA. And alas, it wasn’t available. I was prepared to go to jail for this drama.

Some poll selections are a bit questionable.

Is “Underrated” in terms of ratings?

The “Favorite Character” list is so short I didn’t find ANY of my favorites on there. In a drama like Waikiki, I expect to choose from more than just Joon Ki, even though he’s great — where’s Dong Gu? And everyone else from Hwayugi? If it’s supporting characters only, then why are some leads included? Nobody from Life on Mars? Only Miso from WWWSK? (Love her btw)

Yo i have way more than just 3 fav characters so I'm going to vote for all of them everyday consecutively.

Btw, drama Lords, i could vote for 4 least favorite characters when it was mentioned upto 3.... not that i mind

Also, "BEAUTY INSIDE: Getting through that difficult time of the month together" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 love the way it's worded.

And best ppl form was totally crack. Sansung galaxy ouija loooool 🤣

What a dry year this has been in terms of k-drama for me. I only selected 3-4 dramas from the list. Come and Hug me, Life on mars, Memories of Alhambra and Hundred million stars from the sky and part of Life are gems i consider for this year. I have watched other mentioned popular dramas too, but have dropped those midway.

Sad to see it in less category over here.

And did you notice just about every drama has vacuum scene whether they are rich or poor? And they use the one same kind. I laughed at the scene in Last Empress where Empress/Jang nara was vacuuming lol

I agree with beanies, a OST category would be nice !

Some of my favourite :
- The Guest : Somewhere (the both versions)
- The Ghost Detective : Dream Me by Joy and Marc + My Love My Love My Love by Yoon Mi Rae
- Mr Sunshine : Becoming The Wind by Hyunsang Ha, See You Again by Baek Ji Young and the instrumental one Be a Flame
- Hundred Million Stars... : Lost by An Ji Yeon
- SKY Castle : We All Lie by Ha Jin
-Just Dance : Take My Hand by Hong Daegwang
- My ID Gangnam Beauty : D-Day by Jung Gi Go
-My Familiar Wife : Love Me Again by SF9
- Hwayugi : If You Were Me by Yuny, Jimin and Hweseung
- Live : Carry Me by Family of the Year
-My Ajhussi : Rainbow by O When or Vincent Blue
- Pretty Noona : Save the Last Dance for Me

It's all for now :D

My favorite OST of 2018 is Fox Bride Star : Told You So by Jeong Sewoon even though What's Wrong With Secretary Kim : It's You by Jeong Sewoon is more popular.

I am surprised you listed My Ajusshi but not Adult by Sondia, which seems to be everyone's favorite OST this year.

Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food is proof that OSTs should never be in English.

The listed songs are the ones I bought. There are a lot I liked but I didn't buy like Adult.

Personaly, I like songs in english for OST. In Girls Generation 1979 or in Pretty Noona. Carla Bruni went in Korea to have a concert and it's thank to this drama. I think Koreans really loved her songs.

HOT POTATO
Not included:
[1] Pretty Noona Who Buys me Food
[2] That Man Oh Soo

BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE
This might be the most stacked and difficult to choose.

FAVOURITE CHARACTER
How the heck are Lee Yeong-joon, Gong Woo-jin, Lee Kang-doo not options?

FAVOURITE LEAD COUPLE
I lied. This might be the most difficult one to choose.

BEST PPL
Hands down the plushies from Hwayugi!

SUFFERING
I'm kinda sad that Just Between Lovers might most likely lose out to My Ajusshi.

MOST DYSFUNCTIONAL
To think there were more dysfunctional relationships than in My Ajusshi.

2017 poll, “Because This is our First Life” won the viewer’s favorite drama of the year, beats Goblin by 2%. That tells me one thing, majority of the viewers favor a script that is highly intelligent; that boldly challenges people’s comfort zone, that has real character depth, and character grows and matured as story unfold.

Watching a drama like that, views almost experience a feeling of parenthood; a reflection of watching their children growing up. That is an extremely satisfying feeling. Viewers prefer a script with beautiful dialog that breath wisdom resonates in our hearts. Who can forget the line “. . so do not worry too much. Just because you have lived yesterday, it doesn’t mean, you know everything about today.”

The truth is, a high concept story like “W” of 2016 or ultra stylish “Goblin” with a “Quentin Tarantino” flare, is extremely difficult to make it well. K-drama screenwriters have a tendency of throwing common sense and logic away for the sake of making up complex maze of a story. In many cases, they are painful to watch.

To me, this is a disappointing year, but if I were to chose one, my vote is Misty. While plot still lacks credibility, it is considered tight for K-drama standard.

“I had always thought I had everything, but when I open my hand, there is nothing there. Perhaps we try to catch things that are impossible to catch, is that why we live life like we are crazy?”

Who can forget that?

Why is Jung Hae-in, PRETTY NOONA WHO BUYS ME FOOD nominated as Jung Hae-in and not Joon-hee? Thanks for nominating Motorcycle of Doom, YOU WHO FORGOT POETRY for Best Villain. MR. SUNSHINE is hands down the best squad and best PPL (Dal.komm Coffee, Paris Baguette, Orgel House, Bonicrew). I dropped SUITS despite wanting to finish it but not because the show was bad.

Under the category of PPL. The one that caught me by surprise was seeing Dunkin' Donuts in FOX BRIDE STAR. The first DD shop opened in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1950 not far from where I grew up.
Apparently I should not have been surprised to see an outlet at Incheon Airport. As of 2014, there were over 900 DD outlets in South Korea.

An observation about “Clean with Passion”. It seems to me K-drama is totally obsessed with Cinderella Syndrome. People that are born with silver and gold spoons are much more admired and revered than people who create wealth from nothing with their talents and sweats in Korean society. Does it reflect the reality of just how hard it is for ordinary people to succeed in that society?

It is totally impossible for me to see any woman would have such head over toe crush on someone that is petty, rude, egotistic, pompous, chauvinistic and dishonest. his mysophobia is not an issue, his character is.

It is funny since these character traits are becoming a standard for all people that are born rich in K-drama. It is so interesting to see screenwriters continuously pairing poor girls with wonderful characters to these jerks, perhaps to “improve” future chaebol generation?

It was unfair to make me choose between 'Woohoo Waikiki' vs 'Happy to Die'. Waikiki sagged a bit in the middle after they added 4 extra episodes, whereas I haven't even reached the middle if Happy to Die yet! So comparison is difficult.

What this list mostly does is make me miss Drama Fever. Goodbye Misty, Ajusshi and you Who Love Poetry on my region's streaming sites.
