Premiere Watch: My Strange Hero

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 32 episodes (two 35 minute episodes each day)

Reasons to watch: One moment can change a person’s entire life trajectory. Yoo Seung-ho’s character learns this firsthand in My Strange Hero (literal title: Revenge Returns). Every hero has an origin story, and our strange hero’s origin story dates back to his high school years. A happy-go-lucky Yoo Seung-ho has his life changed irrevocably after he’s framed for a serious assault at school. His young life in tatters, he vows to take revenge on the people who’ve wronged him — including his first love. In order to carry out his revenge plot, Yoo Seung-ho manages to finangle his way back to his school as an adult. Conveniently, his first love, Jo Boa, is now teaching there on a temporary contract and his rival is on the school board. Though he wants to get retribution, revenge may not quite turn out to what Yoo he expected it to be. Though this is all straightforward melo material, the official show description and teasers indicate lots of comedy and light rom-com plot points as well as some youthful angst. This is the first time Jo Boa and Yoo Seung-ho have worked together so I’m looking forward to watching their chemistry. It hasn’t been that long since Yoo Seung-ho’s last drama wrapped, but I’m excited to see him back on the screen so soon!

The plot seems kind of blah, but I'm going to check it out for Yoo Seung Ho.

How long is the usual break between dramas for actors? Yoo's I'm Not A Robot co-star Chae Soo Bin's drama "Where Stars Land" has already finished airing. And Yeo Woo Jin somehow managed to star in 3 dramas last year...

The cuts in the first episode were a little jarring, but Yoo Seungho and friends is too cute to not watch.

Just watched first ep. The BGM had me laughing out loud! The characters are cheeky and mood breezy. But the 2 leads keep it grounded. It looks like a fun ride.

Hehe, at first I thought this was another Yoo Seung Ho drama. I like the title Revenge Returns better because of the pun.

The first chapter was...hilarious?dramatic?, ridiculous? All of the above, but it turned out so well...for a first chapter to really hold my full attention, it takes a lot... a must watch!!!!

Ching! First chapter pitch is what works for me too, kinda a "give it your all or nothing" rule for me. Based on your recommendations, I'll give it a watch! Thanks!

Cute and sweet premiere epi, except maybe too much of filters and slow mo ( but then the visuals are great so not much complaints here) LOL.. This drama and Just Dance unexpectedly turned out good and better than cable romcoms for M/T slot, despite of the other two are more anticipated shows. Jo Boah finally got her lead role in romcom after Surpluss Princess which was ages ago and she is doing well.

On aside note, what a great present to get these two beloved veterans, Kim Gab Soo and Chun Ho Jin playing as a teacher.

Just Dance was a big surprise for me too. It wasn't even on my radar. It's a very well done drama...and short!

So Far So Good. I really enjoyed the first installment. I'm guessing there is a 'lot more to the story' that our Hero doesn't know. I presume the witch mother did something. Wouldn't want anyone knowing that her perfect son tried to commit suicide. LSH's chemistry with Chae Soo Bin was terrific, so I'm waiting to see how it goes with Jo Bo Ah. She comes off very cold and kinda unfriendly to me no matter what genre she is in. She did well in Goodbye Goodbye, so maybe she is improving. Or I'm just getting used to her? ;)
