Shin Hye-sun transforms into ballerina for a KBS fantasy melo

Thirty But Seventeen star Shin Hye-sun has chosen her next project, KBS’s Dan, Only Love. Written by Choi Yoon-kyo (Lucky Romance) and directed by PD Lee Jung-seob (Seven Day Queen, Healer), this drama will capture a story about Shin Hye-sun’s character and her journey toward maturity as she learns to love.

Shin Hye-sun is set to play a rich heiress, who is the envy of those around her. However, due to a horrible accident, she loses her sight and has to give up on her dreams of becoming a ballerina. She’s full of arrogance and distrust, which makes it difficult for her to fall in love.

There are also rumors that L (Ruler—Master of the Mask), member of idol group Infinite, will be joining her as an accident-prone angel who helps her find her way back to happiness. That could be fun. The drama sounds like a cross between Padam Padam and That Winter, The Wind Blows, and seeing the PD’s filmography, I’m in!

Dan, Only Love will be broadcast next year in May.

I like her a lot, and really do not think L is a good pairing. At all. I usually don't have knee-jerk reactions to casting, but she's too good to pair with someone whose main strength isn't acting.

Have you seen him in miss Hammurabi? If you haven't, please do. I think he has improved a lot. And considering it was a serious role not a candy one, make it really work for him. I am rather concerned about the writer who gave us the horrible 'lucky romance.' If anything I would want him to not do the drama lol.

I’ve seen Miss H and I never expected to love it because I was worried about L and Go Ara. Turned out I was worried for nothing but I still don’t feel good about L’s acting. I think the script really carried the show and though L didn’t suck, I still can’t say he’s a good actor. I found him mediocre at best. So now I’m still worried about this but hopefully, he’ll surprise me like before

Really? I liked his role so much so I guess I was rather engrossed watching his performance, so it never bothered me much. To me the worst kind of acting would be Hyeri in entertainer. But for me, she still worked in reply 1988. So I don't know, maybe I have a lower expectation level. 😅

Lucky Romance is the WORST drama I've ever completed, just because at the time I was fangirling Ryu Jun-yeol. The female lead is the WORST-written female character in the history of my kdrama experience. I've no idea what's on this writer's mind when she created a female computer engineer who lead her life by superstition. The most disgusting plot was when she threw herself to sleep with a random guy just because he told her that he's born in the year of tiger. WTF?! Either this writer was high on substance when she wrote that trash or simply has no respect for women. I remember I felt sorry for the actress (I forget her name), no one deserves to play that character.
I hope the script is good and the writer has learned from the failure of Lucky Romance. I will probably pass this one unless there's lots of good reviews from beanies.

Lucky Romance is based on a webtoon so the writer is not at fault for the crazy plot. His/her job was simply to adapt the story for TV.

Owh,then I feel sorry for her too. She's probably a rookie writer trying to make her way in the industry. That drama should never be made.

" this drama will capture a story about Shin Hye-sun’s character and her journey toward maturity as she learns to love."

Terrible choice for Shin Hye Sun.
She already played this kind of trope with 30but17.

Actually, she spent 2018 stuck in roles with high level of romance.
I don't see the appeal of this repetition of more or less the same plot.

Not only she's being typecasted and missing the interesting darker characters, she's also been so far paired with leads with who she has no chemistry and who don't match her acting skills.

A waste of a real talent which seemed so promising 2 years ago when she became the revelation of Secret Forest.

I still have yet to watch her special with Lee Jong-suk this year, but I totally agree. I can't wait for her to pick up interesting roles again.

i thot she had great chemistry with male lead in 30 but 17. in Golden, she had the lead role so i assume that is why she took that role. i think she is a really good actress and look forward to seeing her in another role.

I thought she had great chemistry with Yang Se-jong in 30 but 17, too 🤗 But I do wish she starts expanding her reach coz she has the makings of a great actress. I'm just happy that she's getting all these projects consecutively and I wish she'll get meatier roles in the near future!

Shin Hye-sun's role in Hymn of Death with Lee Jong-suk is an exception to her typecasting this year. Her character is very nuanced and meaningful, and her pairing with the more experienced Jong-suk was quite balanced. I'm also kind of disappointed she's going for romance/maturing roles again after her excellent performance in the special.

I loved her in Hym of death! She looked sooo beautiful and her performance as an opera singer was stunning.
Also their chemistry made me long for more.

i think she was ok in FoS.. her character didn't even require nuanced acting

but having said that she is an ok actress.. haven't seen her in anything that is mind blowing awesome.. but she can act..

give her some time, she just got famous.. her strategy is fine.. given a few back to back hits.. and then there is entire life to be choosy

Of all that was said, that's the part that stood out. I was about to have a heart attack. Thanks for doing the research for me. L better not leave...still devastated by Hoya.

I like her, but not with L. He's better off as the second lead with a puppy crush, in my opinion.
My picks for the male lead are:
- Ji Soo
- Park Hyung Sik
- Lee Won Geun

Ji Soo is the wright answer to almost every question in life.
But! L is up for an angel role, maybe he is not the lead, like Kai? on "The miracle we met"...

This reminds me a of rumoured Jang Nara drama where she was supposed to play the role of a blind heiress, with a pet dog. Whatever happened to that project?

Anyway, I'm on board L's casting if he plays an angelic secretary like he did in Cunning Single Lady. But romance? No, no. *said in best Jennifer voice*.

This is such horrendous and disappointing news.

Shin Hye-sun is amazing. This writer, on the other hand, is bloody terrible. And to top it off, she deserves a way better acting partner than L, who can barely act. If she's going to go ahead with this drama, at least get a male lead who doesn't suck.

Maybe she wants to play a mean spoiled brat.
That will be a 180 on her roles, since she goes from super good person to more battered and nuanced good person.
On "My golden life" when her sister turned mean and spoiled, I loved to despise her and that gave variety to the whole show.
She hadn't try the mean poor rich girl angle, and that will be new.
Aaaand every body on drama beans seemed inlove with Kim Ji Won playng Rachelon Heirs.

But the writer of "Lucky romance".... Bbbrrrrrr.....

Im happy that she's back at KBS's silver screen. I love the way she act since MyGoldenLife. She's a great actress.

L is cute and can also act and I dont have any problem if he plays as an accident-prone angel who helps her.

A deja vu feeling kept bugging me, after posting this article, and I've finally figured out what it was. Shin Hye-sun has played this character before... kinda. In Oh My Ghostess, she played the cripple sister of Jo Jung-seok, whose dream was to become a ballerina! She's essentially playing her past character except with a different personality.
