Name That Drama: A scary affair

  1. Name that recap

There was a scene from a drama that has been bugging me for so long. I didn’t watch that drama but I remember reading the recaps here in Dramabeans. That particular scene happened at the childhood portion of the story, as far as I remember. The mother of the hero was mugged in a dark street by foreigners (I think this happened abroad). All the mugger said was “Hey you!” and then the mother was shot. And died (of course you’d guess that). I remember the recapper/commenters feeling baffled with that scene (or was it just me?). Would really like to know the drama title and episode. Who knows, an intriguing scene might lead me to pick up the drama for marathon! Thanks beanies ❤️

Another hint: The drama’s definitely after 2010.

  2. Awesome in-laws

Hi, it’s my first time posting but lately I can’t get this side-story off my mind from a drama I watched and I can’t remember which one. I only remember that one of the side characters was a married middle-aged couple, traditional style, the husband’s mother lived with them (and I think his little sister too).

I don’t even recall if the reason for divorce was that the man was the usual cheating husband or simply someone who usually neglected and abused his wife (abused not as beating, but as a servant). I only remember that when the ajumma decided she was gonna divorce, she couldn’t bear to separate from her in-laws (mother & sister) so they decided to kick the husband out instead.

  3. The charming not-a-boyfriend

I can’t recall if this scene was a drama, a book, or a dream but I’m 86.23% certain it was a drama so here goes:

A woman has a class reunion to attend and she was supposed to attend with her boyfriend. His flight was delayed (?) and she’s alone but then a younger guy shows up charming everyone including her. Near the end of the event, I think the boyfriend actually does make it.

That’s it. That’s all I’ve got. Thanks for any insight!

  4. Bribing with booze

Hi! I was wondering if you can help me… if you can I would totally appreciate your help! I don’t have anything on me right now. Sorry, I am broke but maybe in the future I can send you some wine!

Okay. Anyway. The question is, I remember watching a comedy. It was similar to Bridget Jones but in Korean… I can’t remember but she wanted to be a voiceover actress… and she was kind of overweight, but it was sooo funny. Do you have any idea what it might be?

  5. Strategic cheating

I was watching this US series, The Haunting of Hill House (it’s like a classic horror mixed with K-drama family drama LOL). Anyway, it reminded me of a K-drama where a married person was having an affair with another married person. When they were caught and confronted, the guy claims that he chose a married woman to have an affair with because she can’t reveal their relationship. Is there even such a show or did I just imagine it? Help! Does anyone know if this K-drama exists?

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was that drama or I was just mixing up with something else.

I just recall from Marriage not dating the scene of the ceremony for the deceased ancestors and the wife being enslaved all day and the female lead taking a stand for her.

I had a wonderful time binge-watching it a few years ago... that is probably why I couldn't place the sequence in that precise drama. It is a refreshing K-drama, indeed.

2. Marriage Not Dating; and that's side plot is one of the best part of the drama
5. I'm pretty sure this is not the right answer, but it reminded me of My Ajusshi. I remember the cheating hoobae saying something like that about the woman he has affair with.

I loved the mother-in-law's story in Marriage Not Dating. Such a good twist on the 'normal' version of the horrible MiL.

It was such a good twist. The FL's love story with the ML's mother was a close second to the main love story, as it turned out ❤️

Whenever I recommend Marriage Not Dating, I always comment on the ML arc because I find it really commendable writing that reveals how women in certain circumstances are often "stuck" and the ways they can become complicit in replicating their own situations on the next generation. The FL's parents also have an interesting story.

1 sounds like Big. So this 18 year old switches bodies with Gong Yoo and his backstory Why he came to Korea is because his mom died in an ally in US

No4 reminded me of 200 Pound Beauty movie were the female lead was the actual voice of a famous singer who only lip-synced. Sorry, probably the wrong answer.

That's my guess too... maybe they thought the dream was to be a voice actress because the heroine loved a Lion King (?) song?

The charming-not-a-boyfriend definitely sounds like Witch’s Romance, with Park Seo Joon playing the younger guy in question.

I agree. What happened there was she went with a recent blind-date and he was insufferable, then Park Seo-Joon showed up to save her and charmed the pants off everyone. Then, towards the end, her past fiance showed up to ruin the 3rd quarter of the show.

Exactly. I go up to that episode, watch like four clips from the next several episodes, and then pick it up again when he leaves.

I've watched this drama too many times...

It is so worth it (the repeated watchings)! I really learned to love Park seo- joon in this. My only other issue with this drama was the female leads hair. Lovely woman, but that hair was not worthy of her.

Totally. In the second half it wasn't so bad, but what was that style supposed to be in the first half??

Agreed. 😍 It’s Witch’s Romance!

No. 1 I think it is a weekend drama. The main lead moved to US with mum but adopted when mum passed away. Initially I thought it was Smile Again/ Smile, Dong Hae with Ji Chang Wook but the mother is still alive.

#3: First time I think I have an answer! Taiwanese drama "Queen of No Marriage" on Netflix, aka "My Queen" on Viki. Ethan Ruan (Juan) is the handsome young man who's fallen for the noona. Great drama!

After a lot of googling! I think I have number 4: Dancing Queen?
Never seen it but the lead is a girl who dreamed about being a singer, now many years later she is trying to achieve her dream and her husband is trying to enter politics too.

Is the awesome in-laws Mystery Queen? Granted, MIL wasn't that awesome until near the end, and the sis-in-law was annoyingly blase about Seol-ok saving her life, but the part about staying close with her in-laws fits.

Number two sounds a little like "Make a woman cry" with Kim Jung Eun except it wasn't just a little sister and she wasn't really treated like a servant, or, the drama didn't focus too much on her homelife. Shoot! Number 3 sounds so familiar.

#4 sounds like "Dream High" with IU as the overweight girl (who subsequently loses weight later on), but she wanted to be a singer, not so much of a voiceover actress. However, she did lend her singing voice to a commercial in the drama (which sort of fits the "voiceover actress" part), but only the ambassador was credited.
