New character posters for tvN’s Arthdal Chronicles

New posters have been released for tvN’s historical fantasy Arthdal Chronicles featuring the drama’s four leads: Jang Dong-gun (Suits), Song Joong-ki (Descended From the Sun), Kim Ji-won (Fight My Way), and Kim Ok-bin (Children of a Lesser God).

The drama tells a story about mysterious legends and adventures in ancient Korean times, with the mythological city of Arthdal at its center. It is here that our four heroes meet, each carving out their own paths, facing off against their destiny, and setting history’s course for Gojoseon – Korea’s first kingdom.

Within this epic tale, Song Joong-ki plays the role of Eunseom. In the poster, we see he is dressed in tribal attire, his face adorned with war paint, and he has a look of strong determination. Although the character grew up among the Wahan tribe, Eunseom was always considered to be somewhat of an alien due to his mixed parentage. The Wahan being his mother’s people and his father coming from the Neantal group. Still, when the Wahan are all captured and taken to Arthdal, Eunseom bravely chooses to stand up against the enemy and fights to rescue his people – even if he has to do it alone.

Similar to Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won’s character of Tanya is dressed in Wahan garments and a painted face in her poster as well. But there is warmth in her face and a small smile, which are in line with the character’s bright personality. However, Tanya is not without challenges of her own. She shoulders a lot of responsibility in her life as she is next in line as heir to the Wahan tribe’s matriarchal leadership.

Jang Dong-gun plays the character of Tagon, whose character poster has a darker color palette and shows him atop a seat of power. Described as a master strategist and head of the most powerful military army, he is also the first born son of one of Arthdal’s leaders. However, as he deals with his father, played by Kim Eui-sung (My Fellows Citizens) and the other cunning members of Arthdal’s leadership, Tagon starts to harbor his own personal ambitions for power as well.

Last but not least, Kim Ok-bin plays the role of Tae-al. Similar to Jang Dong-gun’s Tagon, Tae-al is also featured in darker colors on her poster, and is characterized by her charisma, confidence, and ambitions. Her father, played by Jo Sung-ha (100 Days My Prince) is a captain of a pirate crew who brings bronze technology to Arthdal from his travels to the far west. However, in order to rise above her station in life, Tae-al jumps into the foray of politics determined to succeed at all costs.

In anticipation of the drama’s premiere this week, a special behind-the-scenes episode was broadcast on Sunday, May 26. Titled Arthdal Chronicles: the Beginning of Legends, the special episode also included highlights from episodes to come and interviews with the cast. tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama, Arthdal Chronicles, will be airing its first episode on June 1.

This is the one highly hyped drama I'm looking forward to. It honestly wouldn't matter if complete unknowns were cast, kim young hyun dramas are a must-watch for me. I am happy to see song joong ki work with her on a sageuk again though, his best performance hands down was TWDR.

Korean drama poster sometime is accurate in predicting how the drama is going to be. If the graphic designer doesn't know what to tell in the posters, then I don't know...
Memories of Alhambra poster was terrible and look how that drama turned out. One of the best k drama poster was Signal, it's also one of my top five k drama.

Having said that, I hope Ashdal will be good.

I have the exact opposite opinion about those two shows. So... there is still room for hope.

Jo Seung Ha and Kim Eui Sung are powerful fathers? And their children are as ambitious as them if not more? It really caught my interest!

I'm wary of this because of the hype, but I also have this weird sneaking suspicion that it's going to blow me away, even if it doesn't live up to the hype...does that make sense?

I don’t want to set my expectations TOO HIGH, but how can you not when it’s director Kim Won-Suk of classics such as “Misaeng”, “Signal”, and “My Ajusshi”?? 🤷🏽‍♂️

This drama is a paradox for me. I love the PD, the writer has a ood reputation for sageuks, the casting is great. All the ingredients for a good drama are here. But the visuals and the teasers gave me more the vibe "Flee away" than "Watch me"...

Ahhhh I still dont know what to do. It's just too much? Like when someone's lying, they talk more and give lots of excuses. That's what it feels like to me.

Like many beanies, idk what to expect about this drama yet...
The team behind this has a good rep, the cast is amazing, the buzz is humongous.
But this could either go really great or really bad.
IMO, whenever k-dramas try to be super innovative, they always fall kinda short or are straight up awful.
I plan to tune in anyways, and hope it's great in the long-run, but right now I'm on the fence about it all.

Anyone else get serious Game of Throne vibes from Jang Dong Geun sitting on his throne? XDD

Please, drama, please be as great as i want you to be. Although Joong ki's baby face as a warrior is more cute cosplay than fierce-looking.

That one picture really looks game of thrones style. I dont really watch that because of all the gory violence so this is hopefully less that. Seriously i am interested in the plot, a fantasy/alternative version of the beginning of Gojoseon... sounds way to interesting to pass up on
