Jang Hyuk, Sooyoung, and Jin Seo-yeon being courted for new OCN thriller

Jang Hyuk, Jin Seo-yeon, Sooyoung

OCN has confirmed that they’ve offered roles to Jang Hyuk (Bad Papa), Sooyoung (Miss & Mrs. Cops), and Jin Seo-yeon (Believer) in their upcoming thriller, Say What You Saw. The drama will follow the trio as they chase down a serial killer.

Though we’ll have to wait for more details on the plot and characters, we do know who’ll be coming together to form the creative team for Say What You Saw. The creator behind the show is Kim Hong-sun, the PD of Voice and The Guest . PD Lee Joon-hyung is set to direct (God’s Quiz 1). The writing will fall to two writers, Go Young-jae (Runway Cop) and Han Gi-hyun (Feathers in the Wind). Speaking of Go Young-jae, she’s also the writer behind the as yet unreleased drama, Love Like a Person.

I’m not familiar with Sooyoung or Jin Seo-yeon’s work as actors, so I don’t know if I should be excited or not. As for Jang Hyuk, he does scary and unbalanced so well that I’m half disappointed he’ll be playing the part of the chaser rather than the chased. Without divulging any plot points, all I have to say is, if you haven’t seen him in the 2011 film The Client, you are missing out.

OCN has not determined a broadcast date.

Just a note about Soo Young,... I've seen her in a couple of shows. She was pretty good in My Spring Days. 🙂

Hum, dramaland doesn't get tired of serial killers in these last days 😩
I could complain, LOL. But it has advantages: one temptation less for me😅

Thanks for this exciting casting news on SAY WHAT YOU SAW, @stroopwafel!

The creator behind the show is Kim Hong-sun, the PD of Voice and The Guest . PD Lee Joon-hyung is set to direct (God’s Quiz 1).

Well, with a creative team like that, my goose is flambéed. Now, please cast an apropos serial killer. Just as Kim Jae-wook stunningly rose to the occasion as an exorcist in GUEST after his creeptastic turn in VOICE, maybe Yoon Si-yoon can go whole-hog badass in his next role after crossing over to the Dark Side in NOKDU FLOWER.

It goes without saying, Manseh, Jang Hyuk!

I enjoyed the first season of GOD'S QUIZ. -- For that matter, cast Ryu Deok-hwan as the serial killer. He was scary as hell in OUR TOWN (as were Oh Man-seok and Lee Sun-kyun). Or get Kim Jae-won, who was excellent in GOD'S QUIZ: REBOOT (aka season 5).

@pakalanapikake *wails like a Wahan* Noo, don’t turn my precious panda boy next door into a serial killer! It was hard watching him go dark in NOKDU FLOWER (Though I admit, he’d be great as a Billy the Kid type villain).
If he weren’t doing his military service now, I’d cast Junho. I’ve been waiting for him to take on a villain role after CHIEF KIM. Plus it would be a WOK OF LOVE reunion.

@wishfultoki, you may be right. Let YSY decompress with a little sweetness and light after his blighted existence as Baek Yi-hyun. A Korean Billy the Kid could be a lot of fun -- and made me think of THE STING, for some reason. On the other hand, I could see him as a righteous vigilante bumping off the real baddies -- an antihero who metes out justice to those beyond the long arm of the law. Perhaps a Jang Do-han on steroids who foils the evildoers by being a bigger, more ruthless badass himself.

I agree that Junho would have been good in a role like this. It's something to anticipate when he musters out. ;-)

I’m still waiting for a Kdrama version of THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. It would be perfect for YSY 😄

How inspired, @wishfultoki! I can easily imagine YSY swashing buckles left and right in a Korean adaptation set in Goryeo -- in which he rescues human tribute en route to the Yuan Emperor. That would ensure a nice mane of glory instead of a gat, too. ;-)

@pakalanapikake, @wishfultoki,
Maybe you need this at this time. I don’t know what our boy is saying but he doesn’t seem any worse the wear for going over to the dark side:

YSY comes across as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed indeed. I can hear him say "Baek Yi-hyun" a couple of times, but that's it.

Per Google Translate, after copying and pasting the hangul, which seems to be transcriptions of what YSY is saying -- but I'm really not sure:

post #1 initial_jeonga:
"The last one is the most memorable. ㅠㅠ 'If you were in Japan or you knew this clever guy, you pretended to be in Japan ...' If there was someone who could catch a little bit, I'm sorry ... I'm sorry."

post #2 initial_jeonga:
"I was so sad when I talked in Japanese, when I talked in Japanese, and I really thought Lee Hyun was crazy."

@pakalanapikake, @wishfultoki,
I think what is happening in the video is that YSY is sponsoring a raffle of the book shown on his instagram page.
This is what I am getting from google translate from translating the text on the right :
First part:
Jongbang is the drama of 'Moa', a moonlit flower event
Second part:
I will give you a "mung flower book"
Please leave a comment on "Mung Bean Flower" in your name,
Third part:
How to participate:
1. Follow @moa_ent.
2. In the comment, write which I think of.
▫ ️ Event Prizes: "Mung Butterfly Flower" with three autographs (3 volumes) - Total 5
▫️ Event Period: July 15 ~ July 28
▫️ Winner announcement: Since the publication of the book on July 29

Back to me:
So if you have an instagram account (which I do not) you can enter and take a shot at winning the book!

Thank you, @stroopwafel, for recommending THE CLIENT. I just finished watching it. Great "how-dunnit" plot, with a terrific performance by Jang Hyuk and a slew of solid veteran actors. The soundtrack is very nice, too, with a piano trio's catchy rendition of "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" as cocktail music in a watering hole. There was even an echo of double jeopardy a la CONFESSION. Definitely one of the better crime and courtroom flicks I've seen in a spell. ;-)

I've seen Sooyoung in a couple of things. I especially liked her in My Spring Days. I'd like to request an understated serial killer and not one with overly-dramatic overtones.

@heather1 Hero,
Ah, MY SPRING DAYS. I enjoyed that show, and agree that Sooyoung did a nice job as the female lead. Plus Kam Woo-sung and Lee Joon-hyuk 1984 -- and that lovely Jejudo setting. I'm pretty sure I watched it after LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, which is also takes place on the island.

I'm just wondering about the logistics. I assume this will air in 2020 or so, after JH plays Lee Bang-won in sageuk MY COUNTRY, which premieres in September.

My Country is pre-produced so most of the shooting will finish soon.
OCN drama will air in first half of 2020 so he has plenty of time.
