Kang Haneul becomes shy for Gong Hyo-jin in new promo for When Camellia Blooms

New posters and a video teaser has been released for KBS rom-com When Camellia Blooms featuring lead actors Gong Hyo-jin (Jealousy Incarnate), Kang Haneul (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart), and Kim Ji-suk (Top Star Yoo Baek).

Gong Hyo-jin plays the titular character, Dong-baek, whose name in English translates to camellia (the flower). She’s a single mom and restaurant owner, and has had her share of bad turns in life and love when she meets Kang Haneul’s character. A local police officer by the name of Hwang Yong-shik, he is a pure soul when it comes to love and he pursues her with the simple conviction that all you need is love. Despite everyone around them reasoning that love isn’t all that it’s cut out to be, Gong is moved by Kang’s sincerity and the two begin a romance.

Of course, complicating the situation is Kim Ji-suk. As a star baseball player, he had a child out of wedlock, but after his family was cast on the variety show Superman Returns, he became famous for doting on his daughter. However, he never quite got over his ex-girlfriend Dong-baek and is shaken when she appears in his life again.

The newly released posters have a nostalgic and late summer feel to them. The first one features Gong Hyo-jin and Kang Haneul sitting sweetly together at the top of a flight of stairs outdoors, looking out over the seaside coast.

The second is more comedic in tone and shows Gong Hyo-jin and Kang Haneul on what looks like a date. However, Kang is holding onto a broken bike and he glares at Kim Ji-suk, who stands in the forefront of the poster. Kim has the missing bike wheel in his possession and looks straight at the camera, motioning the audience to stay quiet.

The new teaser is set up like a parody of the variety show Same Bed, Different Dreams, and features Gong Hyo-jin and Kang Haneul in a mock interview segment. At the start, Kang Haneul is smelling a rose and he stops to speak with someone off screen, “Oh, we’re starting.” On the top left corner of the screen, the show logo has been altered to say “Dong-baek, Different Dreams” and the segment is labelled as “Dong-baek ? Hwang Yong-shik / Part iii. Someone’s Future”. The interview question appears at the bottom of the screen, “Everyone is charmed by Dong-baek, and the reason is…?” Kang responds to the question, explaining that “She has a coolness of her own,” and it cuts to a group of men at Gong’s restaurant. They ask her for food on the house and she replies that peanuts are 8,000 won (about $8). Returning to Kang Haneul, he continues that, “She’s pretty as well. How can someone not be charmed by her?” As he speaks, we see a quick close-up of Gong Hyo-jin brushing her hair back and we switch to a stunned Kang watching her.

Cutting back to the interview, Kang Haneul puts his hand to his chest to explain the fluttering he feels in his heart and how all he thinks about is Dong-baek. Cut to a surprised Gong Hyo-jin who asks, “Me?” and we see that she is now sitting with Kang Haneul in a joint interview. She laughs and says, “But, I didn’t do anything. I do have a question though, isn’t this interview for couples only?” Kang laughs nervously and when asked by Gong why he’s laughing, he replies, “I’m sorry, I just think we w-w-w-will…” Gong responds, “What do you mean we will? Will what?” and Kang shyly says, “W-w-ouple.” When Gong is confused, Kang confidently states, “Couple. I mean couple!” In reaction, Gong Hyo-jin continues to laugh good-naturedly and comments that Kang Haneul is an odd ajusshi. The teaser then ends with Kang looking at Gong Hyo-jin and clearly stating that he’s single.

Writing for the drama is writer Im Sang-choon (Fight My Way), and directing is PD Cha Young-hoon (Are You Human Too). Having previously collaborated on a short four-episode drama Baek-hee Has Returned, this will be their second time working together.

KBS drama When Camellia Blooms is currently set to air September 18, and will be taking over the Wednesday-Thursday timeslot following Justice.

Baek Hee has Returned was lovely and light. I hope this drama will be as pleasing to the eyes as to the heart.

Some thoughts:

1. The posters are BEAUTIFUL.

2. When the camellias bloom was a hilarious double-entendre in Best Love which also starred GHJ.

3. I'm so happy that KJS is back to second male lead. He is one of my favorite actors when he is not playing the lead.

4. I knew that Dong-Baek means camellia because I know Accidental Couple practically by heart.

5. I think this is the first ever noona-romance that I am looking forward to.

Interestingly age difference doesn't seen to be mentioned. Maybe he's playing older /she's playing younger/the showing is going to play age difference as a non issue. I do love a good noona romance though. They already look so cute!

i thought fight my way was pretty cute and decent for what it was. i mean it's flawed, heavily so, but i enjoyed a lot of what the show presented for the women. something about it.

idk anything about 'are you human too' but i like all people involved. kim ji seuk especially since i love the roles he's been in tbh. or well the projects he's picked. he's not perfect but i've seen a bit with him in it and there's something about him!

i was a big kang ha neul fan, then i kinda ceased. i want to care about him again but now i'm wary of all actors ever. that being said, when i heard about this i was so HYPE! gong hyo jin is one of my favorite actresses ever. i wish she played stronger characters since 'kinda naive and weak-willed but strong' isn't really that interesting (i can point out the flaws in this) but i just love her. from her face, to tattoos, to personal style, to acting style. she really is cool.

and i love that she has a child and is a single mom. dramas should do more of this or introduce more teen moms, the questions of abortion and fertility etc since this is an underrepresented population who deserve love and dignity.

really hoping this is good! it has everything it needs to be so.

also idk if anyone here has seen that netflix movie kang ha neul was in about his brother disappearing but it is one of THE most absurd things i've ever seen and it's actually iconically ridiculous.

With other actors, maybe I would watch. But I cannot like Gong Hyo-jin😩.
Maybe I should watch jealousy incarnate to see if I learn to like her, although I already know and I am not even happy with the end 😐....

Finally someone who can understand me. He is way too good for secon lead. I really don't know what's the hype for HaNaeul, I saw Angel Eyes and he was kind of basic tom me.

To like Gong Hyo-jin you SHOULDN'T NEVER watch jealousy incarnate or producers they are their worst works, maybe you can try her best Thank You (2007) it's a full drama or a maybe a romcom either Master Sun's or Best Love, but please save your time and energy Incarnate is one of the worst things that I've ever seen because they have all the potential, the actors where good but the writing was a mess.

I just saw that the writers of this where the one of fight my way that and the lead are not a good combination for me, this is too cringe for me.
I wanted to like a drama of her again but this sounds bad from the start. They wasted KJS and GH when they could have them as leads with a better writers.

Hey, Jane, thank you for your comment. I appreciate the enlightenment. The producers I want to watch it for Lee Ji eun, because I love her no matter what.
I watched almost everything in "Thank you", but again I didn't really like her, or the plot. I was sick with so much discrimination and ignorance from the town's people. Jealousy incarnate, I have heard it is funny, but I dislike messy plots... ottoke???😕
This one, I agree with you.

I admit to not always liking her at the beginning of each of her dramas but I almost always like her by the end. She does tend to pick roles with character development, and so the dramas tend to be good too. What about her don't you like? Is it her or her rokes? I loved Jealousy Incarnate but if you have an aversion to the actress then don't bother. I have aversions to certain performers too and more exposure doesn't tend to help.

I don't know for sure. I am starting to watch The producers, because of Lee Ji eun, and Gong Hyo-jin is there too... I will see how it goes.
To answer your question further, I just feel I don't like her "aura"... And I feel the same with Ha Jiwon and Seo Hyun jin, and Lee Min ho, and Hyun bin. I just can't manage to like them on the screen. But I don't hate them either.... it is just no chemistry 😅😅😅😅😅

This is more complex than a mere disliking one's acting. You're talking about aura, which is something that is often innate, I think? I wonder if someone's aura could actually change (either to positive or a negative light) with time.
I think you and Hyo Jin (or the other actors) needs to settle on this matter. xD

I completely understand what you mean. It's exactly how I feel about you when I read your comments and opinions. I just don't like your aura. It's probably a chemistry thing I agree

Hey, guess I'm too late but I couldn't help but drop by😅.
You're not alone! Actually I was relieved somebody openly stated his/her personal preference like this.
I get it, I too always thought Ha Ji-won and Seo Hyun-jin exclude the same 'vibe' (which is the word I choose), sometimes Ha Ji-won stronger than Seo Hyun-jin. Something...like..short-hair-dont-care? It was not always my favorite but I never had much of a problem either.
I DO have an issue with watching anything with Kim Nam-gil, Joo Jin-mo, Lee Ji-suk, Lee Dong-gun. See? They too are famous and of course crazy talented actors. I actually know the reason why, their effortless sizzling, intense vibe unsettles me instead of making me a fangirl😅. It's just my preference, and I'm not being offensive, and I don't have a problem with others adoring them.🤗
So it's ok you don't like Gong Hyo-jin too, because you don't have to!

Never imagined this pairing at all. They look good though. Probably because KHN looks more mature coming back from MS or GHJ seems to be aging backwards. I like the slice of life feel.
