Drama viewership ratings for the week of Nov. 18-24, 2019

Aw, you guys — it’s time to say goodbye to some of our favorite dramas. It feels like this drama season has been going on for forever now, so while I am sad to let these shows go, I am ready for all the goodness (*crosses fingers*) that is sure to come next.

So parting from us are three very different shows, the first being When the Camellia Blooms. Camellia’s numbers had been on a steady uphill its entire run, and with the finale hitting 23.8 percent, it’s the most successful miniseries for a public broadcasting network in 2019. Meaning this sweet little rom-com beat out some of the year’s earlier hits like Doctor Prisoner. Hot dang!

Also leaving are action drama Vagabond, which ran away with its highest rating, and fantasy drama Extraordinary You, which ran away with not-so-great ratings but an incredible love from the streaming community. Among all these goodbyes, we did welcome the latest comedy/crime thriller Psychopath Diary, premiering to a modest 1.8 percent. As more newbies trickle in, I’m excited to see how they all fare.

I'm happy with Extraordinary You's ratings. It's a teen drama, they never attract the audience, all the casting was composed by young rookies (the adults didn't have a major place in the story) and there was a lot of competition :)

"When the Camellia Blooms" even beats the usual weekend family drama domination.
KBS is competing with themselves. Weekday vs weekend.

Meanswhile, SBS's show are competing as the most postponed one...

I'm a little drama light heading into December so it might be time to pick it up.

I wish Catch The Ghost had higher ratings but it faces stiff competition. I guess Moon Geun Young is not the draw that she used to be.

Yes.
And I'm disappointed that Pegasus couldn't beat My Country.

Yay!! When the Camellia Blooms did it!! It was more than just sweet fluffy rom-com imo, it had tons of heart and I'm so glad it did amazingly well. So happy for everyone in the cast and crew involved :)

Bye2 Vagabond. The ratings were consistent through out its run.

I enjoyed portions of the show, the ending was annoying but I was more dissapointed by the lack of Ki Tae Woong from beginning to end. But.....quoting Dan Oh from EY: "that's the destiny of a supporting character. Still some people will like a supporting character like you".

Yeah. KTW i support you. In an alternate universe, you're sipping coffee and running a coffee shop besides bullet chicken. Ahahaha 😆

What KTW is doing during Shadow? In the hospital healing his wounds? :p

Nahhh. KTW is busy with his coffee orders in the Shadow. The one who is in the hospital is Dalgun, he heals in the Shadow. That's why he's immortal on Stage.

Also parting from us is My Country: The New Age which I was hoping would have higher ratings. Tale of Nokdu would have said goodbye had it not been preempted. Ironically, Vagabond should have left two weeks ago.

For a cable channel, My Country did good. Not many in korean have cable so a 4.0 rating is actually good. Tale of Nokdu had low ratings because to be under 10 for a major network that is free TV in koreans, is not a good rating.

Bad ratings for extraordinary you. And I've seen alot of people complaining about the last few episodes. Yet they were still able to party after the drama ended. lol

Psychopath diary has bad rating too. And I see beanies not loving it. The writer and pd needs to work hard. I mean reallyyy hard. Strangers from hell had annoying co-workers and neighbors as well yet the show was able hold our attention, it had a cult following.

I wished Extraordinary You ended with higher ratings. I really loved that drama. The ending was okay, but felt a bit draggy. I will surely miss all the characters from this drama. Finally, this year found something special to watch.

Agree with that. Rated it 9.5 out of 10 because the last episode felt like fillers and I didn't even enjoy a true happy new beginning for Baek Kyung (and Do Hwa) who had as far as I'm concerned the most interesting trajectory...

Still, I enjoyed this show immensely so it will join my list of favorites... Too bad it didn't fare very well with the ratings.

You need to update the dates on the currently airing drama list on this page. This weekend is already December, but you're still two weeks back! It's a little confusing as the episode count is o.k

Regarding The Lies Within: The ratings are ok, not amazing. The only thing is that a female director is helming the show, and I'm all for that because on the directing side it's quite a small small pool :/ So I hope that she's able to get more opportunities down the line.

PD Lee Yoon-jung is a well-known director with several popular shows under her belt (Coffee Prince, Cheese in the Trap), so I wouldn't worry about her not getting opportunities just because the ratings for this show aren't amazing. And at least it's faring better than OCN's other recent show, Running Mates!

I am quite sad about the ratings though because while the writing isn't great, Lee Min-ki and Lee Yoo-young and the rest of the cast are really knocking it out of the park!

Yes! I totally blanked on her name!

I'm glad that's the case, because we can use more female talent behind the scenes!! Aww, well at least they are ending the way the want to end but hopefully people will rediscover the show later on.

I agree! She's honestly the only female drama PD I can think of off the top of my head, and that's so sad. I know there are a couple in the movie industry, like Roh Deok (who directed LMK's Very Ordinary Couple), but there definitely need to be more!

I'm glad Lies already finished wrapping up filming. No last-minute rushing and stress like so often happens in the industry. Hopefully that will give the team enough time to work on editing the ending the best they can!

The Crowned Clown, Flower Crew and Love Alarm had a female PD too.

The Crowned Clown had really great ratings, so I was really happy for her :)

@kurama Ohhhh, I didn’t know about them! That’s awesome. Hopefully more and more female PDs start making names for themselves.

Its funny that the dramas that i didnt find interesting to start, have high ratings (camellia, vagabond) But the dramas that i did start (psychopath diary) have such low ratings.. Or is it normal for a new airing drama to have lower ratings?

It is very strange how and if a drama clicks with the viewing public. A few examples from 2018. I AM NOT A ROBOT and A POEM A DAY (I enjoyed both) had poor ratings for their entire run. To their credit a high production quality was maintained for both.
On the other hand there is SKY CASTLE (which I did not watch).
Its ratings ranged from a low of 1.727% (episode 1) to 20.779% (episode 20-final). As you can see it became a big hit.

My Country: The New Age has officially become the most underrated drama for the last half of 2019 for me. The production quality, the twists, the background score, the relationships between the characters - everything was perfection. So sad to see the ratings for the last two eps were still on the lower side. An epic tale unrecognized.

The rating actually were not low at all. You have to understand that it was broadcasted on a cable channel and most koreans can not afford cable. Therefore, the ratings it received means the people the have cable were watching My Country more than the other cable channels. If My Country were on SBS or KBS or MCB it would have been in the high numbers since they are free to the public to watch. The ratings on Netflix were high. Also, I agree with you that the drama was Perfection, in every was a drama can be. I will miss it so much and it has become my favorite kdrama of all time and I have watch too many dramas to count.
