Drama viewership ratings for the week of Dec. 9-15, 2019

Last week’s chart was looking pretty small, as we’ve reached a period awaiting several premieres. This week, at least, we have a few new dramas to add to the mix. There’s one I’m especially curious about for its killer director/writer duo and cast.

Up first, we had Monday-Tuesday shows VIP and Chief of Staff 2 beat their respective personal records. The latter’s finale even received the highest rating it’s ever gotten — for both seasons. Catch the Ghost‘s finale didn’t quite do as well, but 2.7 percent for a cable drama ain’t half bad.

Other than 9.9 Billion Won Woman slipping into double digits (woohoo!), there wasn’t much change for the midweek slot. Then on Friday, we had the premieres of sports drama Stove League, which hit 5.5 percent, and the highly anticipated Crash Landing on You, which hit 6.1 percent.

Yayyyyy, i’m so happy for the ratings!...But this drama is the death of me! It gives me a lot of stress. Watching the BTS of the casts laughing and having fun is not helping. I want a horrible end to SJ, YR and the VP. Looking forward to the next four episodes.

OMG, this drama is killing me. I am screaming at my TV every episode, calling the cheating hubby and his bimbo 'ho very dirty words, and hating on them.

Someone on Viki suggested that the ending of episode 2 - where we see Yuri get a call, change into a little black dress, and then go to the hotel room, which is opened by the VP, means she really is his mistress, not daughter.

While I would be delighted if that were the plot twist - as it would mean the downfall of the VP, Yuri, and also of Sung-jun, I just can't see it for several reasons.

1. That scene at the end of Ep 2 is meant to lead the viewers to cross Yuri off the list of "potential mistresses." It's a total fake out, to prolong the mystery of which woman in the department is sleeping with cheater hubby.

2. That scene in episode 2 is well after the time Yuri has started working at the store's VIP department, and therefore also after we've seen Sung-jun go to her rooftop apartment to give her money and a (probably near limitless) credit card, and after we see Sung-jun take her - still wearing her old clothes - to what looks like that same hotel room to meet the VP, who at that time has been presented to the viewers as the VP's daughter.

3. I simply do not believe that the wife would knowingly agree to do her husband the favor or pretending his mistress was his daughter, even to save his job and possibility of becoming the president (or chairman?). Not only would it give his mistress face, and allow the VP to see her every day, but it has also put Yuri on the family register as the sole grandchild, and thus sole heir, to the family fortune. It simply doesn't make any sense that she would do that, and finally,

(4) There is no way I can believe that Sung-jun is stupid enough to two-time both his wife AND the VP. He's way too ambitious, and would not have an affair with his boss's mistress. But his illegitimate daughter? Sure, he's stupid/smart enough to do that.

But man, it would be such a fantastic twist, and I would love it, because the three characters I hate the most would lose everything! (And hopefully, Hyun-ah will get rid of Bae). I really want all three of them to SUFFER!!

I read on another site that Crash Landing on You premiered with over 6%. Great ratings for a cable drama.

With the ratings tvn keeps pulling in recent years I wouldn't compared them to other cable channels, and for the blockbuster drama 6% is about average imho.

seems to be feast or famine and i am so happy the famine is over! i am so hooked on Stove League even without loving baseball. it is so very good and with mingoong at the helm and his cohort it is gripping. also loving crash landing with hyun bin!!! there are a couple coming up that promise to be good too (cross my fingers) oh i can't forget 9.9 billion won woman too. i can watch kim kang woo watch paint dry. he is excellent in anything he does (even if the story/directing goes awry) there are some others that have been ok for me too. (did you ask what else i do with my time? lol not what i should do)

I liked the 2 episodes of Stove League. I love Park Eun Bin and I'm expectng to see the ML melting a little bit :p

The first episode of Crash Landing on You was fun. I think I don't care about the story, Hyun Bin is enough :p

It's the first time I'm watching all the Saturday shows... it's weird. (except the sageuk becaus I'm not a fan of the actress).

Interesting. The Nielsen ratings are out for episodes 1 and 2 for little TV Chosun’s S/S sageuk: SELECTION: THE WAR BETWEEN WOMEN
aka QUEEN: LOVE AND WAR:
Episode 1: 2.557%
Episode 2: 2.873%
Source:
https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Selection:_The_War_Between_Women/Episode_Ratings

FWIW. That 2.87% is higher than both episodes of GHOST, 3 of 4 episodes of FLAWS and both episodes of DIARY.
