Namgoong Min, Han Ye-seul courted for new tvN mystery

Management for Namgoong Min (Stove League) and Han Ye-seul (Big Issue) have both confirmed that the actors are considering leading roles in tvN’s new mystery drama, Day and Night.

The story involves a series of mysterious occurrences which is somehow connected to one particular village and an incident from 26 years ago that remains unresolved.

The part that has been offered to Han Ye-seul is Jamie Layton, who is an investigator for the FBI. In light of the strange events that arise in the village, she’s dispatched to South Korea to search for clues and uncover what happened.

Namgoong Min has been offered the role of Do Jung-woo, a police detective with terrible fashion sense. Although he’s teased by his colleagues for being a fashion disaster, he is also revered due to his uncanny ability to solve cases.

It’s been a busy year for Namgoong Min, he starred in the hit Doctor Prisoner earlier this year and his current drama, Stove League, just started airing this past month. If both actors accept, this will be their first time working together.

tvN drama Day and Night is currently being planned to air next year in August, and will broadcast Wednesdays and Thursdays.

"Namgoong Min has been offered the role of Do Jung-woo, a police detective with terrible fashion sense"

I bet he's gonna raid thrift stores for ill-fitting costumes again like he did in Chief Kim. XD

I didn't know he did that. I was so impressed by his wardrobe in Chief Kim. The clothes were so bad that they looked awesome!

He talked about it here (and I forgot the detail that he also dyed his hair that iconic orange color haha) http://www.dramabeans.com/2017/04/namgoong-min-the-introspective-actor-with-a-gift-for-comedy/

@mary,
Many thanks for that link to @tipsymocha's dandy article on Namgoong Min. I was trying to recall where I'd read about his earlier career challenges. It was very inspiring. ;-)

Thanks for the casting news on NIGHT AND DAY, @tccolb. Namgoong Min just threw out the first pitch for STOVE LEAGUE, and he's already considering another project. Yesss!

As soon as I read "terrible fashion sense," my thoughts flew to Chief Kim's mustard-colored shirt. My eyes! I can never un-see it! (I've got a severe allergy to 1970s color schemes involving Harvest Gold, Avocado, and Burnt Orange.) His combinations of colors and patterns was right up there with Hwang Jung-eum's fashion terrorism in LUCKY ROMANCE.

I recall reading an interview with NM after CHIEF KIM ended in which he spoke of being energized by acting, so I'm glad that more opportunities are coming his way.

Another thoughtful article from back then:
[INTERVIEW] 'Comic character is harder to portray than villain role'

Here's hoping for a DOCTOR PRISONER rematch with a cameo by Kim Byung-chul. Alas, Junho is off serving his country, so there's no chance of a cameo by Gluttonous Psychopath. But maybe Kim Jae-won from CAN YOU HEAR MY HEART?. That would be nice. ;-)

A couple of months ago I watched NM's nifty first short film, LIGHT MY FIRE. He wrote and directed it. Very good.

Me too. I had successfully erased those colors from my memory...

@hebang,
I am truly sorry for reminding you. On the other hand, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who found them so deplorable.

I'm reminded of avocado green every day because that color bathroom tile is indestructible. (I actually don't mind it tbh)

Burnt orange was the worst for me for some reason.

@egads,
Some shades of Avocado are more nauseating to me than others. Mr. P had a Western Electric wall phone in that color and it wasn't so bad. It's a good thing your tile doesn't bother you. It will probably outlast Armageddon if it was installed correctly.

@hebang,
The sheet linoleum in our kitchen is Burnt Orange, paired with dark cabinetry for that '70s "Mediterranean" look. But even worse than the kitchen flooring was the counter in the nearby half-bath: garish, retina-searing orange Formica with white oval corner sink. I used to call it the Great Pumpkin Room.

When taking a battery of aptitude tests many years ago, I learned to my astonishment that I have acute color discrimination. It becomes a curse when I encounter hues that are out of sync with my ch'i. There's something about the grey tinge to Harvest Gold that makes me lose the will to live.

A couple of months ago we finally replaced the original Harvest Gold kitchen sink with stainless steel after corrosion did it in. Still have the matching range hood, which hasn't croaked yet.

One of my artist friends used to work for a paint manufacturer, and accompanied her boss to the annual trade meeting at which the selections for the coming year's "in" colors to be used in consumer goods, clothing, home furnishings, etc., were named and decreed. A faceless bunch of insiders foisted those horrid colors on an unsuspecting world. Worse yet, people actually paid good money for stuff in those colors. In self-defense, I ignore fads and fashions.

Interesting. I feel like his non romance shows do the best : Doctor Prisoner and Stove League are doing really well right now. His previous romance show didn't do well, and I heard since he went public with his relationship he tries not to court romance genre.

Both actors are good matches. But it seems like it's in the preliminary stage right now.

I'm waiting for Stove League to air a few more episodes before I pick it up, and yet he's in talks for another drama! Not bad. I like the synopsis of this one and his character description. Sounds quirky and I do love quirky characters. If he does pick it up, it'll definitely be one that I'll check out.
