Drama viewership ratings for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2, 2020

The ratings chart is looking pretty full this week, with three new shows thrown into the mix. At the same time, ratings are looking pretty dang high, even after last week’s pre-emption plague. Of course, not everyone is flourishing, but it’s nice to have a good few making double digits somewhat normal again.

At the start if the week, our Romantic Doctor continued to impress by keeping its audience at 20 percent. Midweek, we had the premiere of Forest, which I was most interested in since it had a rather ambiguous synopsis. It started off with 7.1 percent and then, the very next day, dropped down to 4.7 percent. Now I’m interested in why that dip happened.

For the weekend, we had the premieres of cable dramas Itaewon Class, coming in hot with 5 percent, and Tell Me What You Saw, coming in at a lower 2 percent. Not too shabby for the newcomers, but for now, they’re no match for Stove League and Crash Landing on You. As mentioned, pre-emptions barely had an effect on these popular shows.

Happy for Itaewon Class, loved both episodes for their atmosphere, directing, acting(/characters) and background music/ost.
Also Stove League and CLOY at different timeline compared to late 22:50-23:00 IC and TMWYS, so one wonder four shows didn't affect each other at all.

Money Game should have been on Fri-Sat. Wed-Thu is specifically reserved for trash. foursome not even deserves 1%. Maybe actor fandom came in for 1st week. Mon-tue is write trash, earn cash. That's we see too many doctors vomit in every drama

Any country with border conflict do good in soldier/military drama fiction.

TV Chosun's "Mister Trot" records 20.8% and 25.7% ratings for its two parts on Thursday night, which partly affect KBS2's "Forest" dip.

I would be curious to see the Sunday numbers for CLOY... I felt the romance actually took a step back in this episode so I am interested to see if more action led to better numbers the following day. Or worse. (I mean, c'mon, not even a hello kiss??)

The OTP is super fatalistic on their Future. I mean it’s a drama. The north and south can unite whatever or go to Switzerland. It shouldn’t stop the kisses...*goes to the corner and sob

And Romantic Doctor 2 broke the 20 percent benchmark! So glad the show receives so much love.

Re: Crash Landing, I am eager to see the number for Sunday ep 'cause I think this ep is by far the best ep.

@mmmmm,
I've been hoping RDTK2 would hit 20%, and glad to see that it has steadily worked its way up. I'd like nothing better than for STOVE LEAGUE to get up there, too. ;-)

STOVE LEAGUE is a really good show- but subtitles on Viki are taking an unusually long time. It is very frustrating.

We saw the first few episodes of FOREST- and will watch some more but at this point- I am not sure about this show

VIU released subtitles usually hours later or the next day, that is mostly depending on your time zone

Really happy for Itaewon Class strong start,i'm already in love with it !
Happy as well for Romantic Doctor & Strove League...Strove League might be among my top favorites remaining amazing from start till now,i'm actually sad it has just 16 eps...Also,Crush Landing On You smashing it each week,ep 12 had a hit at 17.4%!!!
A bit sad about the ratings for Game Towards Zero as a minority i quite like it alot ...Forest gets all this bad reviews yet suprisingly has the highest rating among those in the same slot...

I really want to like Itaewon Class and there is so much potential swirling under the surface. Sadly it feels like the tropes are already starting to take control Itaewon Class rather than it being in control of the tropes.

The vengeance/power story is such a well worn Kdrama path that we have become so attuned to early telltale signs warning of when it isn't in control and can just end up spinning its wheels (Bachelor's Vegetable Store).

It doesn't have the full-on through the looking glass of 2010's super crazy "Bad Guy" or the brutal razor like unpacking of SK culture of "The Devil". For me, Itaewon Class doesn't seem to be heading anywhere new (which usually only works if really well done) and I am just scared the 2nd half will become an empty cycle of angst/what ifs /hollow redemption...repeat.

I have a feeling drama ratings will continue to be good with people opting to stay indoors rather than go out to crowded places. Now more than ever before.

Just got back from lunar new year holiday and in self-quarantine because I've been to a place where there were several cases. Haha! Expect to see me more often on the comments thread, beanies!
