Hello, all:
Sitting here on my porch trying to avoid the news

Mystic Pop-Up Bar -- Who knew i wanted heartfelt in the middle of summer? Episode 4 has some fun afterlife worldbuilding.  What i disliked though was the idea that billionaires were good in their past lives.  This drama is so sweet and heartfelt. A funny thing is that jamaicans also have a superstition about not telling winning dreams before you act on them.

Khondae Intern -- Wow, this is a keeper. So gentle and so probing about humans, woundedness, and the herd mind. The inside look on product placement is so good.

Born Again -- I am in overwroughtness heaven. The writer is in that zone where bold creativity/makjang and batshit crazy all meet. Fact that my big crush Lee Soo Hyuk is amazing is also making me super happy.

Sweet Munchies -- I'm so happy because two of my three faves have dramas right now. (Waiting for you Seo In Guk) Jung Il Woo is playing a very subdued character. His acting chops are amazing and his beauty has aged well. He never seemed manly or like a regular guy in his old dramas but here he does. I love this drama so much. Between khondae intern, tiger and rose, and this drama, i'm getting tons of behind the scenes drama meta. And yet i can't watch it. This could just be me but i always felt JIL was gay and watching this drama just makes me hurt for him and for all closeted korean actors. I could be so wrong but my heart is messing with my enjoyment of this.

Team Bulldog -- fun

Good casting -- i am so disengaged from this. But i keep watching for the possible romance.

Cdramas
Romance of Tiger and Rose -- The meta about writing dramas is cracking me up.
Have a great weekend, all.

Born Again: I think they've been reincarnated and taken over so they can solve the 30 year old murders...once they do that their souls will rest in peace. Contrary to popular opinion, I'm liking this drama.
Chinese: Mr Fox and Miss Rose. Normally cuteness is too much sweetness for me, but unexplainedly I love this cuteness. Totally unrealistic in a modern world, one of those "he got in an accident, ended up in the wilderness with a remote tribe" etc. But it's darn cute.
Sweet Munchies is on my list to watch, and you've just confirmed it more.
Thai: happened on to TharnType and I'm sure I'll get a comment from you-know-who, but I really like it. Guess I look for different things or from a different pov from most. The two guys are adorable together and I love their personalities.
You have a great weekend too.

I'm loving Born Again. I just feel that there seems to be some weird selectivity going on with the reincarnation. I understand that the writer didn't die so she didn't have to be reincarnated. Her daughter was born from one of those horrible union but daughter could've been someone else..perhaps the murderous mother who killed her son. It's not that i want everything to be tied up neatly but i'm wondering if the writer dropped the ball or if the ball will bounce later in the series.

Is Fox and Rose the same as Tiger and Rose?

Fox and Rose: I was wondering if they're the same too! But Tiger and Rose are about a screenwriter who becomes part of her story. Mr Fox and Miss Rose is about a gem dealer who has an accident and ends up in a lost tribe of primitives. But that doesn't last long. I'm on ep 3 and he's already gone back to civilization. She leaves her village and hunts for him because they'd gotten married but he only did it for a chance to escape! I like that the drama isn't taking itself too seriously, but yet isn't slapstick either. Hits the right balance for me (so far). You know how you can never predict how long the goodness will last!

I'm in Kansas!

Where Your Eyes Linger On episode 3. I can't fanwoman about this drama enough. I hope it has a reasonable ending. Even if they aren't happily together (curse that very thought), I hope it makes sense and isn't cheap.
I'm officially in love with Gook. I fanwomaned over his hands. Can't believe I have to wait another week.
Showed my roommate the first 2 episodes. She likes it too.
The King On episode 6. I live for Woo Do Hwan's eyes
Oh, My Baby On episode 6. I officially ship Yi-ri! I can't believe the sperm donor scandal. I wish Korea had methods to allow for single moms.
Yisang is so cute. His hands are amazing too. I'm having a hand thing today. KISS!
King is Not Easy On episode 17. It's a really fun drama. I don't understand why the king blows to his mother. I like the respect aspect but he should be the highest in the land, no?
I paused because I didn't want to finish.
My Girlfriend's Boyfriend On episode 3. Well, it's not available in my country anymore so I'll continue it one day, I guess
The Brightest Star in the Sky On episode 8. I'm not into Boxu.
Psychopath Diary On episode 3. Yoon Shi Yoon is back in my life.
Dark Kiss and Midnight on episode 3. The relationships are a bit too fast moving for me. But the cast is beautiful.
Showed my roommate the first episode. She thought it was intense too.
How Are U Bread? on episode 3. It was an interested beginning
Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie finished. Watched on discord with a friend. It was fun. Though the ending wasn't what we expected.
Heirs episode 2 for the Viki Watch party. That was a blast. Almost got kicked off with a few other people
Hollywood was amazing! I miss it so much.
Hospital Playlist on episode 1. Cute.
Drake&Josh & VicTorious watching random episodes for a fanfiction I'm writing

I've slowed on EXO media. I've listened to all Exo-K music, their Japanese album, Suho solo, Xiumin solo, Lay solo, Baekhyun solo, Chen solo, started on Chanyeol solo, EXO-SC, watched a Kris movie, a Chanyeol movie, started a Tao drama and a Suho drama

Jonghyun was in a couple Chen videos and I almost cried.

I've been released back to work! I start on Monday. Now to change the time I go in. Wish me luck!

Oh my Baby: The sperm donor scandal and the bad comments about Hari not being a mom got me angry. Are people really that judgy and narrow-minded? Find it mind-blowing that she got punished at her job for a totally private issue (after all, she didn't have legal charges).
I'm really loving Hari's spunkiness!
Life is too short to waste time not doing what makes you happy because of what others may say!

Good for you! I am doing a course on Silla culture and technology. I got a tiny bit excited to learn about the Hwasun Daegok-ri relics today: https://www.museum.go.kr/site/eng/relic/recommend/view?relicRecommendId=519718
These Bronze Age artifacts are mainly: swords, mirrors, and bells... it reminded me of our ARTHDAL trio: Eunseom (sword), Saya (mirror), Tanya (bell).

It's funny that I keep finding Arthdal clues now that the show is over (nope, I'm still not watching Season 2 if it happens).

Little Boy - not near 375k oh oh

This was one tough week where I was once more near danger.
St. peter i won't go down so easily.

Heatwave - no fan, no ac, no food, only 1 litre of water and 1 litre of Milk. Add topping of no bath for 1 week.
Now i can understand the feelings of a CPU. My whole body had more than normal heat. And this was the top level test and ofcourse i had to stop it or i would have end up meeting St. peter or walking in between patients of Little Boy. One more year, one more test and i'm alive.
When you have nothing you can brag, claim, feel to be the better one.

Only when there is temptation, greed, desperation, desires that you, your rules, ideas, character is put onto test.

Someone with no food, no water is already mentally active for the troubles and outcome but what if all the needs can be easily fulfilled and yet you chose not to go ahead with any of them.
All the luxuries in front of you but you can't use them?
Real entertainment starts from that point onwards where you need them but your own mind and heart says no.

I like extreme and this time i decided to take one step ahead and was on the edge of Mount Everest. But somehow i'm alive. This feeling alone gives me ton of confidence that i can win. i can absorb things and i can win big.

Ofcourse what i do brings a lot of pain and suffering to a mother. This is utter stupidity but i find value in it. That's what human history also teaches you - Catch children by neck and parents crumble.

Feeling of parenthood and monkhood i consider the most purest and most annoying.

Happy OT
Backstreet Rookie is facing some blacklash over cultural appropriation. Some didn't want to watch because of the age difference, now another issue. I still hope it does well as the leads are part of my faves.

SBS released EP13 preview of TKEM and twitters going crazy saying all our theories are about to be thrown into the gutter. I hope not cos all our work cannot be in vain

Wherever you are, stay safe, stay strong and stay happy. Have a wonderful weekend🎉

Dear Beanies! How is everyone today? Just stopping in to update everyone on what we’ve been doing. My daughter turns 12 tomorrow and we (my parents, sister’s family, and mine) will be having a party for her tonight, social distancing style, of course. My sister is a pharmacist, so gets it and we’ll be at a park at separate tables per family. Otherwise, I hope she’ll enjoy it. No friends invited this year though. It’s been rough for her, my socially empathic child.

My husband and I are still watching “When my love blooms.” He’s enjoying it more that I am, so I’ve picked up the C-webdrama, “The Romance of Tiger and Rose” which is hilarious! I’m loving it. (My universe also needed some balance to all the melodrama everywhere right now.) I love how they break the fourth wall constantly with the female lead waking up in her own script and now trying a way to get out of it—being a character that got killed off in the 3rd episode initially, and now trying to stay alive until the end. It’s totally my kind of humor. And the chemistry between the two leads--*heart eyes*.

Which means “Hospital playlist” and “The King eternal monarch” are perpetually on hold. Along with a ½ dozen other dramas that I’ve started and never finished (Healer is there side-eying me hard). My sister is “hooked” (her words) on “The King.” I’ll probably talk to her about it today. She’s a goner though. How Netflix is making her a bigger Kdrama watcher than she was prior.

And my secretary is so crazy, she’s started (maybe finished by now) Meteor Garden and will start Boys Over Flowers next. I think she’s just watching anything Netflix recommends so she’s on her own now. LOL.

Conversation while watching the 1st episode of Tiger and Rose:

Male lead’s servant: This is a poison that is completely colorless, odorless, and dissolves completely in water.

My daughter and I in unison: IOCAINE POWDER!!!! (Dissolving in a fit of laughter.)

Moral of the story: Pretty sure that was a meta for the Princess Bride and if you don’t teach your kids the classics, why bother?

2nd Moral: Netflix is making a killing right now, and lots of new Kdrama fans because of it.

3rd Moral: The world may be falling apart, but there’s always Kdramas.

Tiger and Rose! The cdrama channels current obsession right now. It's so hilarious and I love all the gender reversal stuff.

Though you laugh at how ridiculous the gender reversal stuff is and then you sober up when you realize that's how women are/were treated and it's sad.

But Lusi and Ryan are doing amazing jobs. I love QianQian so much ❤️

Hello beanies. The King will have only one episode this week and the reason given by the channel makes no sense TBH. I've been watching a lot of Cdramas lately but I'm on a re-watch of Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo because I need some positivity in life and because I don't remember the Alston few episodes. Joon Young seems like a very decent male lead showing surprise levels of maturity (surprising because so many male leads who are well past their college days aren't mature enough). I started CLOY and I'm proceeding slowly because I spoiler myself by reading the recaps. It's also my first Hyun Bin drama and oh my god beanies his eyes speak volumes. It's like his eyes can pierce your heart to its depth. Hospital Playlist is a gem of a drama and it feels like I have grown as a person watching it.

Yesterday It was the first time ever I took antihistamines. I went for a walk, looking for one lost shoe of my little one and there was this nice breeze coming from the east.

I was looking and couldn't find anything. Someone could pick it already or he kicked his feet high while sitting in the back carrier. So I continued along the path deeply in thoughts and was starting to feel extremely tired. Almost at the end of the country path I decided to run back home and I was relieved that I didn't need to cross the field with the young bull protecting his cows. I reached home and suddenly my sinuses got all puffy and I couldn't breathe properly. I'm not allergic to anything normally so I was like ok, it will pass. It didn't it got worse. My whole body was starting to ache so I took a hot shower and the antihistamines and got to bed. It got little bit better but I was so cold all night that I had to put sweater and woollen socks. In the morning all my body was swollen and I wanted to sleep. No sleep with little children around. We went for a walk and when I reached the area of yesterday's walk it started again.

I'm hypersensitive to chemicals. So they must be treating fields with some pesticides and with the wind I breathed it in. They really could use me as a chemical pollution detector but my whole day was unproductive and I received some news about some language exams I have to do and they'll do it online in 7 days. How I'll manage? I need some spell. Any fairies out there?

The weird world of kdrama availability.
Why do you think MBC's DINNER MATE/WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE DINNER TOGETHER is not available on Kocowa (and thus Viki and ODK both of which have arrangements with Kocowa)?
MBC is part of the joint venture of the big 3 networks (along with KBS and SBS) that make up Kocowa.
As far as I can tell it is available on the Chinese streaming site iQiyi.
Maybe China/South Korean relations are improving but I still think it odd that DM is not more available.

IQiyi used to have pretty stringent regional restriction on its dramas. You pretty much get nothing outside of China.

A couple years ago, perhaps coinciding with its stock entering the global stock market, dramas solely produced by IQiyi became available to stream in the US.

Now that it has started a streaming platform outside of China, it's possible that it is also acquiring content that is not available in China. The only caveat is whether Chinese regulators believe they must approve content on IQiyi platform anywhere in the world.

I did read that China-S Korea relation might be improving based on greater promotional activities by SK entertainers in China. On the other hand, no airing announcements about long-shelved cdramas starring SK actors/actresses.

Has it been a week already? Times flies when you're allowed to go outside and the weather is warm 😎

So, dramawise, I've been spending way too much time thinking about The King. Apparently I'm one of the few who are ok with the preemption, because I'm sure they're doing it for reediting and hopefully improving the last episodes. I also have the unfounded hope that all the WDH-buzz will result in more scenes for our beloved Unbreakable Swords... Fighting!

Been binge-watching Are you a robot too?. Skipping the boring corporate/awful chaebols stuff, this is a super fun watch! Love Shin and his evolution, love the progression of bickering to unwavering supportive OTP, and all the fluff and slightly silly action scenes are totally up my lane. Of course, this drama circumvents all creepiness and ethical issues by making Shin practically like a super-human, but I'm not here to think hard, just give me the fluff and the pretty!

Besides that, I've been eagerly waiting for the subtitles for episodes 5 and 6 of Oh my Baby. It's funny and relatable and fluffy. And characters seem well-drawn, except maybe Hari's hobae, who seems a bit too clueless to be real. Hari and Yisang are 💚. I knew it! Ever since I saw Go Joon's amazing entrance in Save Me I was a convert, that guy has charisma!

The weather has been warm here as well, and I find myself getting more and more busy with social distanced plans from this week onwards, June is upon us already!😲

I usually pray for preemptions to catch up on the episodes.😆 But as you can read in my comment below, it must be boring having nothing to watch, so I empathize with TKEM Beanies tonight.

I'm with you in thinking the delaying is a good thing. Hopefully they're using the time for tighter and more cohesive editing. It'll give time for even more theories to brew before the season finale which will likely boost the rating as well.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

I am currently watching Oh My Baby episode 6, which will probably earn me enough material to squee and write a ‘what we are watching’ entry for tomorrow.😅 Since it is another long weekend and summer is upon us over here, my friend and I decided to press play on the Reply series together. We finished the Reply 1997 special as introduction and we are excited to officially start this weekend.

I wish that I could spread it all out a bit more efficiently, because now I am swimming in episodes and social distanced gatherings around the weekends, and bored out of my mind on weekdays because there is a lot to do and nothing to watch. And no, I am not postponing Oh My Baby episodes!😤

Only one episode for Eternal Monarch this week 😟🥺😢.

Yesterday (28th May) was HRH Emperor Lee Hyuk's birthday! Happy birthday pyeha~ 🎂

4 months to go to Kairos aka SSR x LSY time-crossing drama!!! The only drama I'm looking forward to for obvious reasons *cough* SSR *cough* 🤭. Curious if you're watching SSR in Master's in the House? If yes, does watching him interacting as himself in real word setting a plus or minus for drama watching?

I started watching it for Seung Gi and love the show. Although i have a new appreciation on him as a person, it makes harder for me to see him in character. I can't unseen his real life personality (and his bed hair 😄).

Anyways, he joined as a MitH regular months after Vagabond ended and hasn't been in a new drama since then 😆.

I have a four day weekend and decided to watch some dramas. Then I couldn't choose a drama so I decided to read books. Then I couldn't choose a book so just hung out in the living room with the heater on flicking through Netflix and my hard drive and Viki trying to make some kind of decision about anything.
In the end I decided to make @ndlessjoie happy.
Or I guess that depends on how much I end up liking this...

I think it's more likely that she's watching Mary Stayed Out All Night. I wish I could watch her face as she watches this. Just thinking about it ... 😀😆🤣

I love it even more every time I watch. The leads stay true to themselves. You should at least watch the last episode if you decide to quit.

As a Jang Geun-seuk fan, I should try this one too, and if I don't like I will skip to the ending like you suggest.

I tried watching two episodes of LOVE RAIN recently and was not into it at all...

Between Jang Geun-seuk and Kim Jae-wook there are two definite reasons to watch this show. Also they have WAY more chemistry with each other and I'm not entirely sure this isn't actually their love story instead. I mean if you remove the girl in the middle of the three way wrist-grab, they're really just holding on to each other.

They really missed a trick by not focusing on a bromance. Javabeans and Girlfriday agree on that point.

It's much zanier and fast paced, but definitely a more old school trope filled story.

hi beanies,
happy weekend!

so, after finishing drama Hospital Playlist, I was wondering about the probability of a ‘new era’ of kdrama (multi-season) and its aspects,,I mean i’m familiar with multi season western-drama, where the story could evolve beyond my imagination, some felt reastically evolving, some others are just illogically absurd (according to my logic, of course),, writer Lee of Hospital Playlist seems to plant seed for branching out story, especially lovelines, for the upcoming Season 2 (season 2 is confirmed, according to some south korea media, out of 3 seasons planned).

—SPOILER for ep 12 Hospital Playlist—
shwa wasn’t shown to respond to ij’s confession, shwa was shown to happily tried to say something to Jwon but held back (twice). Jwon was shown happily confirmed his romantic feeling to Ga Eul, but not before we the audience was shown a scene where shwa has avoided looking to jwon’s eye when jwon seems to be thinking of ga eul.
—END OF SPOILER—

of course, since the season 2 hasn’t aired yet, I believe that the story could be not what I’ve imagined, but I couldn’t help trying to imagine a ‘new’ kdrama where your newfound girlfriend/boyfriend in a drama is not for forever, for whatever reason you could break up and find someone new and (gasp!) the process could repeat, and you’ll find someone new, again.

Beanies, do you think that kind of storyline would be possible in (multi-season) kdrama in the future?
or do you have encountered such storyline in present (non-multiseason) kdrama?

ps: if you responded to my question here, I would appreciate it if you avoid discussing the Hospital Playlist’s storyline, we can discuss it freely in the recap :)

Stay safe and stay healthy, beanies!

I blame Netflix and their multi-million investment in imposing western style multi-season tv. Few years back, in the rare occasion when a drama would have a so called second season, it would be spin-off ratger than a true continuation of the first season.

While I'm no fan of multiseason in kdrama, I try not to write it off for now. My only hope that they dont drag the storylines far beyond what's necessary. A sickness that sadly plague many western tv show that started strong but ended in whimper.

So, this week I discovered the joy of Taiwanese dramas. Just finished Miss Rose. Any recommendations?

I never made it to the end of Miss Rose, but I enjoyed Office Girls (has the same male lead), Bromance (same female lead), Love Around, and Love Now.

HOSPITAL PLAYLIST (ep 12):
Thank you for the cast/ writers/ PD for giving me oasis in this difficult time. Nothing is OTT. No hospital politic/takeover, no backstabbing doctors stealing ea other surgeries, no dramatized life/death situation, no dramatized anything really. It's so refreshing to have a drama that offers more normality than real life. I'd rather this is a single season only but I'll happily tune in next year for our BFFs.

OH MY BABY (ep 3-4):
This drama is more than just a light romcom. There's depth and honesty in the storytelling. I love how gutsy and genuine our heroine and i also love all the women and men around her.

THE KING (ep 13):
After much improved pacing of last week episodes, this one is unfortunately a slow one for me. Not much progression on the plot and the revelation at the end is not really a revelation.

WHERE YOUR EYES LINGER (ep 3-4):
Still really loving it. I wish i start this after all the episodes have been released because the weekly waiting is torture.

WYEL - I feel you. And I can't stop either. Watched the 3rd and 4th episode today after debating with myself for some time ("Don't do it, you will be disappointed and angry!") and then 20 minutes later shouted out "Hey, why is this so short?!" even though I went in fully aware. Omo.

I often see references to the 2011 series 'Dream High' so I finally decided to take a peek at it.
Oh my.
I did not expect a tiny IU in a fat suit! That's too horrifying to wrap my head around. It is fun spotting familiar actors back when they were young. I don't know if that's going to be enough to sustain my interest, though. I always wondered why reviewers claim Bae Suzy has a limited acting range. She seemed a perfectly decent actor from what I've seen of her. Then I watched her in Dream High. Oh... To be fair, the poor girl was only 17 and it was her first role.

Last night was the absoworse in my bedbug drama since the first night. A coworker texted me on Saturday night to use this powder because shes had the monsters before and it worka isa, trust me! I happened to have some and used it liberally. All around my bed, nooks, crannies, crevices. At around 11 I went to bed. I kept the light on so I could see them and kill the ones I saw.
I have never seen so many of those bastards. Ever. I stayed up until 6 am as every time I tried to go to sleep I saw more.
So I stayed up.
And read about the riots.
And cities burning.
Now im horrified for dozens of reasons and bedbugs arent even top 10.
Sigh.

To all you newbies on DB, if you like an actor don't visit his/her post on here, especially if they're pretty or popular. No one will take their acting seriously even if they are competent. Learned my lesson a few years ago :)

People here like to act like drama specialists or justice warriors.

weekly recap lets go :))
1) Once again: What is there to say its fun its interesting, its the kind of chilled romance family drama i want right now
2) Good Casting: i am paying zero attention to anything exept for the romance so please get the romance moving thanks
3) Hospital playlist: I loved it and i'm going to miss all our characters. till season 2
4) THE KING: I stopped watching at episode 10. even woo do hwans brilliant acting and engaging character wasnt enough to keep me interested.
5) Mystic pop-up bar: it gave me hotel del luna feels at first for sure, but i see how its different and I hope it becomes more enjoyable, but liking it so far
6) Will you have dinner with me: i mean its cute, i can see that its going to be one of those with a lot of emotional baggage, considering it has a psychiatrist as the main lead, but i see comedy and thats kind of engaging me. hopefully i can stick to it
thats all i'm watching for now. Lmk if there are any comedies you reccomend for me :))
