Lee Jun-ki and Moon Chae-won’s picture perfect family cracks in new Flower of Evil teaser

In the latest Flower of Evil teaser, Lee Jun-ki (Lawless Attorney) feeds his daughter, while his wife, played by Moon Chae-won (Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter), watches adoringly.

This family of three seems loving and harmonious on the surface, but dark secrets are lurking beneath. The suspense drama stars Lee Jun-ki as a man who has played a part for his entire marriage. His costar Moon Chae-won plays his detective wife, and she’s been happy throughout their fourteen-year-long marriage. But that happiness is put into jeopardy when she begins to have doubts her husband’s identity and starts to suspect that her beloved husband may in fact be a serial murderer.

The teaser shows an affectionate, intimate family breakfast moment with a beautiful, scenic mountain view. But suddenly the glass cracks and reveals an interrogation room containing Lee Jun-ki and Moon Chae-won.

Moon Chae-won narrates: “I didn’t know anything about the man I loved.” The adoring wife Moon Chae-won looks shocked to see a handcuffed Lee Jun-ki in the interrogation room staring back coldly at her. Detective Moon Chae-won glares at suspected criminal Lee Jun-ki, and Lee Jun-ki narrates: “A man who pretended to be human. A woman who loved even the dangerous side. Flower of Evil premieres in July.”

As a huge fan of Lee Jun-ki, I have a lot of thoughts: He doesn’t have the best track record picking projects. I am praying to the drama gods this doesn’t turn out like Criminal Minds because Moon Chae-won and Lee Jun-ki had almost negative chemistry in that drama, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t their fault; it had a dull procedural format and a duller script. This double identity character harks back to Lee Jun-ki’s Time Between Dog and Wolf days, and I’m all about it. I also wouldn’t mind if he went all out American Psycho on us. I just hope that this drama is worthy of his talents.

Upcoming tvN Wednesday-Thursday drama Flower of Evil will begin airing on July 22.

CM suffered from the second episode curse, which was quite bad in my case as I’ve seen more than 20 seasons of the US show (all the versions). It was too bad.

He was really great in Lawless Lawyer (Viki) - I really enjoyed it. Also starring the stunning SEO YE JI.

It's on my drama drought re-watch short list. Which means I've watched it 3 times so far. Or was that 4?

He is having fun because he has nothing to prove.

Choi Min Soo is Lfe! Really. He is bad ass on screen and in real life.
Its so worth going back to the golden era just to watch him during the height of his career. Amazing talents! His parents and grandparents were well known actors too.

Choi Min Soo is the bad boy that K-Netz can't handle lol.

When I have a bad day I watch this video and just laugh my head off. Everything about it is hilarious.
Shake it to the left. Shake it to the life🤣.

Oh my goodness, he is hot. So talented. Thanks for the link, I'm watching all of his songs now. Why are bad boys irresistible. Same Jang Hyuk). Have you seen CMS in Extracurricular? Heart rending. (I knew he was acting royalty. Can you imagine having your grandparents in North Korea?}

2

Mother's lullaby is my favorite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09HRdzKkLSA
He was also on King of Mask. Love his voice.

I haven't seen "Extracurricular" yet. PD Kim Jin-min loves casting CMS. I'm glad because I love them both.

It's so sad. I think Mother's Lullaby was a tribute to his grandparents too.

1

dude..he is so fun..made running man episodes into a legit 1.5 hr movie..and the scare was real, very real

and then you watch his episode in knowing brother, talking about his life..

I love Lawless Lawyer and waiting for a free weekend so can watch the rest of the episodes.

A couple of comments: (1) I think this would ultimately prove to be more interesting if Lee Joon-Ki did turn out to be the killer a la "Jagged Edge" rather than having a third party frame him for [take your pick] a childhood incident, multi-generational family feud or previously dismissed romantic rival.

(2) I do not know what would prompt less of an eye roll when characters have jobs subject to conflicts of interest (lawyers, doctors, cops) -- flatly ignoring the issue and relying upon suspension of disbelief or a convoluted justification for disregarding the conflict of interest.

(3) I say this only in half-jest: I have seen much of Moon Chae Won's earlier work (Innocent Man, Good Doctor, Princess' Man [really lovely, that one] but nothing more recent -- is this the same person? She looks really different in the stills.

2

I recommend it.
I love the story and the acting. The two Moons had great chemistry! They even won best couple awards lol.
Moonie is still the youngest actor to win a daesang award for her role here.

This is based on a novel by Lee Jung-Myung. The same author of "TREE WITH DEEP ROOT."

5

Tree with deep root is a show ive been wanting to watch because of the reviews but have not gotten around to yet. I will take note of Painter of the Winds and hope to watch it soon. Thanks for the recommendation. 😊

3

I just finished re-watching TWDR last week -- it was just as powerful the 3rd (4th?) time as the first.

For years, I watched nothing but sagueks and did not see any ones set in contemporary times until Descendants of the Sun. It's a toss-up between Dae Jang Geum and Dong Yi as my single favorite kdrama of all time.

2

A lot pf people like TWDR and since its available in netflix. It will just be a matter of when i will get to it. 😅
The episode count is daunting though. Recently I have favored 16episode dramas or less. I think part of the reason I have been procrastinating is I dont have the attention span for longer dramas. I started SFD and have not finished it yet. 😅🥺

3

I'm a sageuk fan myself. "The King and the Clown" was my first sageuk film and "Dae Jang Geum" was my first sageuk drama.

I tend to follow writers since I'm more interested in Korean history.
While I enjoy writer Kim Young-hyun and PD Lee Byung-hoon's sageuks I prefer Jung Ha-Yeon and Jung Hyun-Min's sageuks because I've learnt so much of the actual history from their dramas.

1

@kiara - accurate Korean history has been a problem for me. I am sensible to take any dramatizations with a grain of salt but I am old enough to remember what the limited number of "scholarly" works translated into English were like during the era of the 5th Republic. Although times have changed, I have never been able to shake my prejudice against native history books and I prefer not to get my Korean history from non-Koreans.

1

@halofan68

I hear you.
I can't wait for the translations of the Annals of Joseon to be done.
Only 13 more years to go lol.

2

Discussions about episode counts always remind me of Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-Shi. I can't remember whether each episode was just under or over an hour but there were more than a 100 of them. And if you think subtitling on Netflix or Viki is bad, the translating I had to sit through makes the former look like Churchillian eloquence.

But the show did introduce me to Kim Myung Min -- if you told me someone had cast him to play Park Geun Hye, I'd likely still buy-in.

Haha I sat through 100+ episodes of " Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-Shin" for Kim Myung Min and dang he was worth it.

The longest sageuk I've watched was
"Emperor Wang Gun" 200 episodes.
So much history of the 3 Kingdom era and Mrs Korea subbed all of it.
I'm not doing that again, 20 eps is my limit now lol.

2

Criminal Minds was boring as heck. PD Lee Jung Hyo (Heartless City, Good Wife) left in the middle of it and I had hope that both of them and Son Hyun Joo would've left with him.

I'm liking this evil Jun-ki. The only other time he came close to being evil was when he played his alter ego in "Scholar."

American Psycho? 😱 @tineybeanie I didn't know you are that bloodthirsty lol. Bale was a hawt psycho but too much blood and gore. I couldn't finish it.

I love PD Kim Chul-kyoo (Hwang Jin Yi, My Beautiful Bride, On the Way to the Airport , Chicago Typewriter and Mother (first K-drama to compete in Cannes).
I haven't seen any of this writer's drama and seems like a greenie so all hope and trust is on PD Kim and the leads.

@kiara,
I am a relative newbie in regards to Lee Joon-gi but I became a big fan with his performance (and outstanding physicality) in LAWLESS LAWYER (Viki). It was one of my favorites of 2018.
Since the completion of HOSPITAL PLAYLIST I have been saving my one tvN slot for FOE.
I figured before FOE begins I could work in a tvN drama from 2019 that I was sorry I missed when it aired so I started and love Junho’s CONFESSION (available at ODK). Right. Until I looked up FOE’s PD work on AisianWiki (because of your reference) I had no idea Kim Chul-kyoo also directed CONFESSION. (I love the teaming up of Junho and Yoo Jae-myung). Also I am a big fan of CHICAGO TYPEWRITER (Viki)
Will Lee Joon-gi go dark on us?
In regards to the writer, I did enjoy Writer Yoo Jeong-hee’s
four episode (not really) NAKED FIREMAN (Viki).

@tineybeanie, oh no you didn't. You've thrown down the gauntlet.

As a huge fan of Lee Jun-ki, them‘s fightin’ words! You have called me out of the woodwork. I may not like all of Oppa's projects the same but he’s done well with his choices and memorable Kdrama characters. Furthermore, I most certainly appreciate the fact that Lee Jun-ki is willing to take on risks as an actor and give his fans something new and different (genres: saguek, action, comedy, thriller, etc.) each time with his projects. For the record, he’s not one of those actors who can easily be pigeonholed and characterized as stagnant!

Yeah I think its more of a matter of preference but also the roles being offered to her in recent years aren't the best use of her talents. I feel like back in Nice Guy/Good Doctors era, it seemed like she was the next big actress but I think she took a bit of time away and it kinda undermined her momentum. She is a natural beauty, and seems quite shy and reserved in rl. Maybe this might shine her back into the spotlight again?

The wife is a psycopath. We watch the drama through her eyes, and she chooses to leave out things, which we only find out later, as the story unravels. The case of the unreliable narrator. The husband struggles to cover up her crimes, while going to pieces slowly.

Maybe you’ve only seen her modern dramas, that’s why. You have to watch her sageuks Princess Man, Painter of the Wind, War of the Arrows. Her modern dramas are not as good as those sageuks.
Flower of Evil is her best modern performance. Innocent Man is also good for her but I understand if you didn’t think ahe shone there since there is another female lead with almost equal screentime. Good Doctor has great plot, but her character is not the highlight there.
You have to see her historical dramas and movie since those are the best acting she has shone.

Here is what I hope: The male lead IS a bad person who is who they suspect he is, or has at least done some of that he is accused of doing. He does "love" the female lead, but in a dangerous way, and he is manipulative and makes her constantly doubt herself. She must also work to protect her daughter, as the male lead is also possessive of them both and might use her to get to the female lead, or something. Meanwhile, the female lead is is having a battle of minds against the male lead, trying to not fall to his level despite his manipulations.

I don't know, I just want another drama with a douchebag male lead and a female lead as the heroine battling him, but With the male lead being actually evil and dangerous and not pathetic and toxic like in A Couple's World. I am looking forward to this, if only a bit. My experience from Moon Lovers tells me that the lead actor could be very hot as a possessive guy on the brink of evil, so... XD
