I don’t want to sound offensive suggesting this since I know the DB staff members put in a lot of effort producing content for us Beanies but it is a little frustrating when recaps are so late and we don’t have a space to discuss and/or see all our live-watching theories (Mystic Pop-up Bar, anyone?). So how about there be a post uploaded first onto the website for us to post our episode comments? It can be blank at first and then updated later when the recapper is done all the writing/editing/reviewing which I know takes a lot of time not to mention the technical side of the website.

here i am another normal day in Africa(just indoors)
finding myself excessively in love(addicted) with Kdrama and Cdrama haha(mainly Kdrama though)
i can say it secretely started with the first kdrama i watched back then ' boys over flowers'
and though i was small i quickly adjusted to the whole idea of subtitles (im sure i didnt 100% understand all the dialogues haha )
then came 'you are beautiful' 'my princess' 'playful kiss' etc and the journey continues
now everytime i mention the fact that i enjoy kdramas a lot of my peers alway react with the question ' how do you manage the subtitles?'
sometimes i even ask myself if i should just learn the language lmoa
but no one really knows how deep the love is #prosperctive fan girl ..imma be putting 'her private life ' into reality pretty soooon

Once, I tried watching kdramas dubbed into Spanish to learn more Spanish. It was way too weird. They were all dramas I had seen more than once, so I knew the story. But my brain basically shut down, and I didn't take anything in, not the Spanish and not the subtitles.

same. First, Netflix played english dubbing for non-English shows (french and spanish). I know neither of the language but English dubbing is so weird and sounds fake emotional scenes. So, I had to choose Original Language option, and now netflix plays with original language for every show I watch.

Back when I worked at a big city agency job I'd be at my desk on my lunch break reading my book. Passing foreign-born coworkers would comment "You read THAT author?", while American-born coworkers would comment "You READ?" It seems people who object to subtitles are mostly objecting to reading at all.

Hi all

Hope all is well.
I've gone into full prepper mode because I am convinced that SHTF is coming up this election season. Scary times.

Dramas:

Born Again: I feel cheated and misled. I trusted that LSH was the first lead and that fated lovers from previous lives are gonna come together in the next life to fulfill their love. Silly me to make such assumptions.
Wasn't prosecutor/Hyung bin her fated one? Red string and all. Is the standard red string trope being tossed aside? When is Soo Hyuk ever gonna get the girl in a love triangle? And heroine s reason for choosing the other guy is confusing. She puts her old self to rest but then decides to choose the guy who was always saving her in the past life? Also, the bit about prosecutor being the one responsible for her parents death seemed pulled out of leftfield. (I was gonna say "pulled out of her ass" but aaargh. Also, she never hears that prosecutor shot at the second lead (first lead?) in order to protect her. In that case, at least, he was trying to save her. He wasn't just being mean. And lastly, in her previous life she rejected mr killer because of a misunderstanding. In this life, she rejects prosecutor because of a misunderstanding. And this isn't pointed out.

Khondae Intern - I'm loving the humanity of this. Plus... Now i want to work in a food production company.

Mystic Pop up: Is this the season for supposed fated reincarnated lovers not to fall for each other? Also...I understand the Buddhist reincarnation hope but the idea that people who are reborn into good lives are good souls just irks me. Rich evil folkss and good poor folk abound in real life. I'm hoping the show addresses this. Like maybe talking to a rich dead person and rebuking him/her for becoming evil at birth after being given such a great opportunity.

Cdramas

Romance of Tiger and Rose. So cute
Missing. I might have to rewatch a couple episodes to understand the characters better

Have a great weekend, everyone and keep safe.

I'm right with you @CaroleMcDonnell when it comes to Born Again. I, also was disappointed at the way it ended. Generally I just accept whatever the writers wanted to do with the story, but this time it felt a bit like being cheated. **Spoiler Ahead** so in the end, she falls madly in love with the guy who murdered her original love that was connected through time. Sure, he's probably younger and maybe an inch taller, but I disliked him the whole way through. I know a lot of Beanies are probably pretty happy the killer guy won the girl, and I am happy for those Beanies to get their wish. So the best that I can hope for now is to hope that the detective/prosecutor/attorney finds himself a woman who will appreciate him and treat him well. His character ended up being the most admirable of all. imo

I didn't realize i was so invested in what i thought was the love match until my anger started racing. I had forgiven so much. I allowed the heroine to be mythically pure and sweet. I allowed the heroine to always be in jeopardy and to absolutely not be involved in moving the plot ahead. I allowed a whole lotta crap for makjang's sake. And then that ending made me realize that all my goodwill was for nought.

Happy Friday beans~ I hope everyone is healthy and happy 😊~

Today is the finale for Eternal Monarch!!! 🥳
Excited to see what is in store for us in the final ep. Who will die and who will survive? Will Gon and Taeul have a happy ending? Will Rim die looking old?.....

Wait. As I was typing Rim dying old above....a thought came to my mind....he is like a male version of Empress Dowager in The Last Empress!!!! Empress Dowager in TLE was obsessed with beauty and would do anything to keep young. Rim is 70yo and still look young. So...imo he's actually using the flute to retain his youth and good looks. If Empress Dowager was in this drama, she would have fought hard to obtain this fountain of youth flute 🤣. Kekekeke

Now I want a Empress Dowager and Rim showdown! They will be epic on screen 😱🤯.

Anyways...back to my original point...Eternal Monarch finale is today~~~ huhuhu. Kinda sad it's ending. It's the only ongoing drama I'm watching. And the discussions and PPL were fun~

I've posted a quite a few screenies here since DB added that capability, but...
WHOOPS!!
I've been using .PNG format because that's the default in the software I normally use to watch kdramas, but I just noticed that they take a lot less space in JPG format, from 1/3rd as much down to less than 1/4th. So I changed the sofware setting and I'm converting my archive. Apologies to DB for wasting so much of their space with wrong-format files.
PS: I'm just loading them in Paint and using its "save as" function, with no changes to resolution or dimensions. The new ones look the same. Example space savings: 333KB -> 79.

Little boy has calm down now.

415k-475k for june.

I had said it last week too. You criticize the person for not imposing the lockdown and then weeks later participate in protests.
This is what allows whataboutery to easily take place. If you show concern about little boy then your rights get in danger and if you step up then you little boy starts to fly around you. Quite difficult.

When a politician fails, looks for diversion and a protest of any kind even though -ve for him/her actually benefits them in long run.

I had said in 1st half of 2019 that republicans need to use and throw trump but trump aides became quite powerful in all of this but little boy gave opportunity to those sidelined republicans and this is opportune time to reap all benefits and act like a saint and put all blame on the one who is already in the eyes of people.

Only if trump was a bit more smart he could have changed a crisis into opportunity. Aides are the ones who will lose power, so its sure they will come up with some plans to slap the rebels in party as well as polarise the voter.
1st step is to create fear in the mind of white voter - make them feel like the victims, who are unduly accused of things they never did, or not believe to do, Use white-man's-burden as a tool to make them feel insecure. You won't get black votes so better get maximum of white vote. You won't get popular minority votes so better create friction and divide that voterbase.
Demonising black people is the tool they are using and its a good strategy. Afterall, its a matter of presidential chair. move ahead by hook or crook.
What they need is black looters and black shooters. Black drug mafia and few white innocent victims. story complete. spices added. make it mainstream and viral and put both sides on corner. Exactly fake events, madeup events with misinformation and fake news can create air for you and discredit your opposition in politics and media.

Everything mentioned is already used all over world in various forms.
Even worked in previous election cycle. Hate speech with + fear works and atmosphere is quite conducive for it to work.

Mr Trump is like an uncle of Donald Duck in who's eyes are Dollar signs. When the dollar signs match in both sides he's in a good mood and doesn't Twitter but does some work if it doesn't match he feels suffocated, depressed so he needs to express himself how's everybody wrong. He's like a little kid who doesn't know how to lose, share and respect. He's a self-loving creature who destroyed with his love for golf courses lot of nature in lots of places all around the world. I've read interviews and opinions pieces addressing why participating in protests because you want to get a haircut or go to a bar is not equivalent to participating in protests because people, particularly African Americans, are being injured or killed by police officers abusing their powers. Those protesting the latter argue that that is a false equivalency and trivializes their serious concerns and criticisms. Further, the current protests are a culmination of years of abuse of power, discrimination, and indifference to systemic racism, not a few months of lockdown. Yes, I, too, was concerned about the crowds of protestors but I understand why they felt they had to do it.

Happy weekend and Keep Beaning On!

I lost to K-dramas again!😅 For weeks I have been indecisive about starting a third K-drama during my free Sunday-Wednesday time slot and I finally caved and gobbled up Mystic Pop-up Bar until episode 5. Seems like Yi-Sang got some competition from Kang-Bae, judging from my fan wall.😳

I was getting stuck in my unemployment/lockdown routine, so this show is the breath of fresh air that I needed. I was hesitating to press play because I felt swamped already, but since I find myself also bored at times, I realized that my nonexistent time management is the culprit.😂

The regulations are loosening up, so I expect to see and visit more people and places from now on, which should decrease my boredom and routine, but it also means that time management becomes even more important if I want to add going out to my current pile.😆

First time management assignment: do not watch Mystic Pop-up Bar episodes 6-7-8 until Monday. I do not have much faith in myself to be honest!🤣

So last week I posted that I was watching "The Untamed" and was a few episodes in but didnt get the hype. I was told to stick it out because it does get better and WHOLY COW....I have gone down the untamed rabbit hole. Finished the show a few days ago and I can't stop watching the BTS and interviews. The show really picks up around episode 20 and Sean Zhan steals the entire show...he's absolutely amazing. I get the hype guys, it's totally real and worth it.

I'm now watching Arsenal Military Academy because I need to find a way to get over The Untamed...liking it so far!

Welcome to the rabbit hole! It's so true that if you don't see the hype but stick with it, you're more and more invested (er, obsessed). I talked my friend into trying it a 2nd time but start at episode 3 - she's now on her 2nd re-watch and crying a lot. She didn't get everything - as in emotional beats, all the characters and stories that are interwoven, etc., on her first watch. She calls me everyday with questions and comments and praise for the series.
And, yes, Xiao Zhan is the main character, has most of the scenes, but everyone comments how much more they notice (on the re-watch) Wang YiBo's micro-expressions, eye movements, slight smile that means so much, and how much Lan Zhan loved Wei WuXian from the beginning. Eeeks, I could go on and on.
Someone posted on Twitter awhile ago the 3 stages of Untamed: 1) it isn't that good. 2) okay, it might not be good but at least it's watchable 3) It's taken over my life...
Except you're now at stage 4: BTS and interviews and all things Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo.

I definitely want to watch it again, but not sure if I can bring myself through all the angst. haha. I'm enjoying all the BTS content right now - I love how their characters and real personalities are so opposite of each other.
Wang YiBo also deserves praise...despite being a second lead with probably 50 lines in the entire show (haha) - his quiet expressions really came through. I also discovered he used to be in a kpop band called Uniq (what!)

Cdramas like to add love polygons for cheap "drama". Often the source materials are 1v1. Of course the unrealistic part of many such source material is that for some reason these almost perfect leads never ever had serious any relationship before they fell for each other. Western culture would look at such people warily 🤨

1

@snickers Don't you mean Asian dramas in general have love polygons? Untamed is the only one I can think of in any kdrama, c-drama, T-drama, Thai drama that doesn't have a triangle. And actually, many western dramas have triangles. If there was a triangle, the 3rd party would have been Jiang Chang.
I'm in the Western culture, and I look at western dramas more warily than Asian dramas. So I assume you're really generalizing.
I get the feeling, though, that today you're just trying to be a tad contentious.
I had also heard about the controversy with Wen Qing and she certainly was given more scenes than in the novel. It annoyed me that she's listed as female lead, when Yanli should have been listed as 2nd lead. Unless you have sources that are incontrovertible, it's just rumor and speculation. I've read all the rumors as well.

2

I meant Western Culture would look at an almost perfect person who never had any relationship and wonder "What is wrong with him/her?"

I didn't finish drama The Guardian so I can't say. In the novel, the snake girl has a crush on her boss. That's not really a love triangle because she isn't even close to be a serious contender.

The biggest cdrama love polygon polygons I remember involved 8-9 people. That is just way way over.

I do stand by my belief that love polygons in general are for cheap drama like what you see on Jerry Springer.

0

Love is More Than a Word. 2016 BL-based drama is 1v1. Faithful to the novel.

Same goes for the First Wu Xin: The Monster Killer.

There were rumors that You Fei, cdrama starring ZLY and Wang Yi Bo, was manufacturing a love triangle by promoting a 2nd female lead, whereas there might not have been an obvious one in the novel.

As someone who tends check out a cdrama's original source material, I often get annoyed when the drama messes with relationships.

0

Warning: Diehard MDZS-Untamed fans might take issue with Lan Zhan being classified as a 2nd lead. It stems from various "wars" engineered by Jiang Chen stans and MDZS haters.

Novel was written mainly from WWX's point of view. However, the author stressed that LZ was a co-first lead.

1
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

And one thing I liked was there was no love triangle. Just the two of them.

0

It also didn't help that the Untamed producers initially tried to demote LZ's role to promote Wen Qing.

0

I suspect because Guardian and Untamed are both based on BL novels, that the writers are very wary about making the main characters seem promiscuous by falling for every guy they see. A girl is wedged into the novel when it becomes drama to make the story feel more about fraternal love and to get it past the censor so there wouldn't be a lot of room for other relationships.

1

@CaroleMcDonnell A few BL-based cdramas have become even more bold at being unfaithful to the source - changing a lead or a love interest from male to female.

0

heh heh... welcome to the rabbit hole with the rest of us! I think that I've watched the show about 5 times - but I ff through many parts. When real life gets too much I just tune in to Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan for my escape.

Required fields are marked *

I also watched Untamed due to the hype but now it's my best cdrama of all time (though I haven't watched THAT many heh). Story, acting and soundtracks are definitely the best parts of the show. Thanks to the original novelist too, the plot and story was amazing. I'm the type of person that NEEDS romcom to survive; angst, politics, procedural dramas, any other stuff isn't for me but this has the perfect balance and that *magic* I wasn't even expecting.
WWX and LZ are now my definition of soulmates, idc if they're fictional and too good to be true. After The Untamed, I binge watched their fmvs, fanfictions and literally, cried everytime I feel their love is so beautiful and precious (I'm going overboard aren't I). Also ship the leads in real life but nothing too crazy! Can't wait for their upcoming works.
Am also unable to get out of the show. Since finishing untamed no cdrama or kdrama can hit me the same way again (for now lol). I was originally in a kdrama slump and after the untamed it only gets worse HA
I still feel like welling up everytime the theme song plays...... There's no way out

Hi everyone! Glad to be back in the open threat routinely. Life has a new kind of routine now. Wake up, check the news feed, get ready, kiss daughter and husband bye, yell "bye" to the son who doesn't come out of his room, pet the dogs, get to work, put on mask in car, go through main doors (my badge to side door is disabled now), get temp taken, answer "no" to all COVID screening questions, get to office, put on another mask (not usually a new one, but one that gets rotated every 3 days until soiled), see patients in office or on telemedicine, but more in office, check FB multiple times a day to see how COVID is going with other colleagues today, read national news about our own struggles and wins in our city, wash hands repeatedly with alcohol, take off mask, eat lunch in my office (no more break room lunches), check DB or watch some dramas, put mask back on, and back to seeing patients again, take work mask off, put home mask on, go home, Clorox wipe everything I touch in the car, take shoes off and Lysol shoes in the garage (I probably have a chemical sensitivity to Lysol disinfectant now), leave scrub clothes in hamper, yell "Hi, I'm home!" down the hallway, shower before dogs can jump on me, shower, hug daughter and husband, pet dogs, help set the table, dinner ready, eat. Then I do more work on the computer or family time going to the pool, social distancing, feeling some semblance of normal by the end of the day, only to start over again. "How long will we do this?" I ask myself. My poor 3 year old nephew showers twice a day now, one when he gets to his grandmother's house, and one when he gets home as to not contaminate his caretakers. My kids still haven't seen their friends. We interact with my colleagues' family that I work with every day, but only one family. COVID is spreading in my community. Found out yesterday that my neighbor's house cleaner and family have COVID now. Wish everyone would just wear masks around here (so many misinformed people not in my area). Still feels like we are trying to push back a tsunami and with recent protests (again, the non-majority not wearing masks), I'm preparing to be inundated.

But that's why there are dramas! Been watching more in my spare time, even if it's just 10-15 minutes. The C-drama Find Yourself is my crack this week. I've been through over 20 episodes and it's an easy watch. And the characters are exactly what I expect real people to behave and think, and there is SO MUCH great dialogue. I love it. I'm still watching The Romance of Tiger and Rose too. Still so good! And looking forward to the Linger episodes. It's short and I've learned that waiting a week for 10-20 minutes is torture, so I'm going to wait to watch several at a time.

Other than that, I'm just wishing my life away, wishing COVID would just go away, or wishing there would be better leadership to make it spread less in this country. I'm finding myself wishing it...

well up here in "occupied Seattle" i'm happy to say most people wear masks! and they are very happy to, as we don't want to infect others -- especially when they are protesting and occupying... and boy, are they doing both.

but sadly, because of my age and my experience with ARDS 4 years ago, i cannot join the marches because i am high risk... but i stand with my seattle liberal (not anarchist or antifa) community, and especially with seattle's People of Color and especially the African American community!

everyone continue to be safe, today seattle's infection numbers tripled from low 20s into the 60s -- the virus is still hard at work.

take care! be safe! hang in there!!

I think it's such a gem ? I understand what is problematic about the plot, but the drama is not ignoring the problematic side of the plot. I think it's such a healing drama. I really recommend people to give it a try.

I've recently tried to see a new therapist, since the one i used to see didn't fit me. It was my 3rd time meeting her yesterday, and i was just mentioning that i needed to buy new clothes because i've gained weight, and she told me that i should lose weight. I never talked about being uncomfortable with my looks/weight. I felt a bit shocked by her reaction. When i tried to tell her that in the past, i stopped eating and was underweight for a while and now i'm scared of diet, she kept saying that i should see a nutritionist, and when i told her i don't have the money to do so, she told me "even more reason to find a job" (i've been struggling to find a job those last 8 months). I kind of understand where she is coming from, but i still thought it was a bit... idk. Do you think i'm being a bit too sensitive and it's a normal thing to say ?

This is why I stopped going to any therapist. They can only see things from their pov and think you should follow their advice and there's just one answer for every personality. And it sounds like this therapist has no empathy at all.
When I realized I had to find my own answers, it worked out better in the long run.
This is just my opinion for me, of course. But your comment sure brings back a lot of memories. Good luck and hope you get through your struggles. As they say, all things are temporary and hopefully there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

My best therapists are my friends and my sister. It's much more easier to talk on the phone to them and sometimes personally but I should start to write letters to people like I was doing it in my 20's - they've been never sent. Now when I find one and read it I'm in awe how cool a person I used to be...

I was chatting with my English friend who came over for a lunch, she wasn't the lucky one with life and she was telling me that her friend who works as a therapist for abusive men recommended her one therapist known within the important people circles. She is telling that your body is a mirror of the society around you, their expectations and demands. When they make nasty remarks you should answer them something like this " Thank you for your advice. I try my best but you doesn't help much either. I would appreciate if you are not happy with yourself not telling me there's something wrong with me."

Some therapist give you just medications and you can fool your brain for a while but that's not the right solution.

That is actually a very good advice. I think you're right.
I'm sometimes scared of being too heavy to my friends with my problems, but i guess that's also friendship. Maybe i should also try letters like you said, haha.
Thank you for your reply. It's nice to hear about the experience of others people.

1

An added thought to @BC comment. I find it much easier to discuss problems with one friend that I not only trust, but is non-judgmental, as opposed to family members who are judgmental and you can't live up to their standards "if you'd only do what I do, etc."

4

Wow - leave that therapist and don't look back!
I've been lucky over the years to meet a few really good therapists who helped me figure things out when I needed them.
And, I've encountered those ones who were not "a good fit" for me.
Trust yourself above all - and listen to your heart.

I saw a therapist last year 2 or maybe 3 times, but the last time I met with her I felt worse than when I went it. So I called and left a voice mail canceling and told her it just wasn't a good fit for me. She called back and wanted me to come in and 'discuss' it, but at that point I was done and didn't look back.
Remember you are paying them for the service. If you aren't comfortable, listen to that feeling. And ask around if anyone can recommend someone.
A good therapist that fits what you need is hard - but totally worth it if you can find them.

this happened a lot with my last therapist too. I didn't felt too bad after that last appointment with my current therapist, but i just... felt kind of dumbfound ? I think i will go next week just to see how i feel about this, and will probably stop after that.
I honestly really don't want to do the discussion part too lmao

1

Until you present weight loss as a goal or problem, a therapist should not be talking about it 🤦🏼‍♀️
I’ve had a lot of good luck with therapists. It’s kind of a pain to have to shop around but when you find a good one, they will give great support.

Therapist are so expensive... One of the reason why i'm trying this one, is that she accepts to adapt her price to what i can give, which is around 10€... I mean i'm thankful, but the therapy itself doesn't fit me i think.

Don't hesitate to share, i would love to see what other people live at their therapy. Sometimes i wonder if i'm the reason why therapy never works. But it's true that lots of therapist are pretty insensitive.

Trust yourself - you are not the reason therapy doesn't work. It probably is a combination of the two of you. Which is neither good or bad - it just is.
We all respond differently to other people. The trick is to find the therapist who will help give you the confidence to trust your heart.

3

This isn't a therapist, but my most vivid memory experience was going to a depression workshop. It was so weird and the people there were so weird, it immediately scared me out of depression. So I guess I could say it actually worked..but not the way they meant it to.
Another story later.

3

oh dear, a depression work shop does sound strange.
I've lived with depression for many years and have had good and bad therapists. But nothing beats listening to my inner voice when I'm not sure. I was told we all have a "wise woman" in all of us that we just need to learn to listen to.

Men also have a "wise man" inside them just to be non-sexist here.

or do they need to listen to that wise woman inside themselves as well? haha

4

right ? honestly losing weight is not a priority at all for me right now. I don't really understand why she told me that right away, without me even mentioning anything about how i see my body.
i hope i will have that kind of luck one day too haha. I'm happy you've found good therapists at least !

I think you should tell her that you are not okay with her therapy and then you can figure it out what’s next for you after her reaction.
I dare not say you to leave because this is not normal, but this isn’t I’ve expected from a therapist either.

I believe that the right therapist will make you feel better with you yourself in general. I feel like getting to know a therapist that’s a good fit for you is like when you go for a make-up shopping. You’ll never know of which item will become your favorite, but if there will be ones that you’re comfortable wearing them, and those that are just not ‘right’ for you. Therapists are the same. This one isn’t for you imho.

Ho beanies. I just realised taht I can't binge watch dramas because I tend to lose interest in them half way through. Currently watching Witch's Court and I'm loving Ma Yi Deum. Yoon Hyun Min is so adorable as the the idealistic prosecutor who is self aware enough to ask for help when he can't handle things on his own. So Hospital Playlist withdrawal symptoms are real, so much so that I've started making up fanfiction (in my head) about it. In my case, my fanfiction is about an adult U Joo. It's really embarrassing to talk to my friends about it but I guess this is the one place people will get me. The Swoon is giving away Kim Kyung Nam's drawing of Shin Jae and I'm really tempted to apply for the competition but I don't think they'll ship to India.

So you don't lose interest in dramas if you only watch a couple episodes a week? Why is that?

Personally the longer the gap between episodes the more likely I am to lose interest because I lose momentum, get interested in other things. There are just a few dramas now and then that leave me eagerly anticipating the next installment. Will You Have Dinner With Me is doing that for me now.

Exactly. I've learned the hard way it's better when I can just binge things, probably because waiting a week for another episode, you lose that emotional high you just gained.

For me personally, when I binge watch, I don't savour the drama as much and I don't remember much about how I felt watching the drama. I think the drama goes by too quickly for me to analyse it

@katakwasabi and @silverdrafts alright i'm done being a good girl by waiting. spoiler ahead so beware fellow gorgeous beanies. ***

i just wonder: After the timeline reset, Yeong obviously remembered Eub-seob, Eun-bi, & Ga-bi when he sadly reflected that they likely don't remember him. But during the last scene where Tae-ul and Gon accidentally reappear in Gon's world at the present time through the portal, why did it appear as though Yeong did not recognize Tae-ul? Why did Gon have to explain that "this is that kind of situation" so let them be a couple? Why did Tae-ul subsequently ask Gon who, after Yeong, was supposed to find out next? Did she mean to ask about: a) "who was to find out about Tae-ul's existence" next within Gon's world, b) "who was to find about their weekend excursions next", c) "who was to find out Tae-ul and Gon were still together after everything transpired", or like d) all three depending upon who retained their memory? Guys I'm asking this because Yeong BETTER have retained his memory. Out of everything in this show, the only thing which must remain consistent is this aspect because that's all I care for hahaa. Also, did Yeong just not die after the 50 bullets he took, and thus was saved? Did he disappear, like Rim, and reappear rejuvenated due to the timeline reset? This is all minute and inconsequential relative to the main plot holes in this show, but I need to know what others' opinions are.

***spoiler alert

@kakakash I think I can explain that. I think. Guys, feel free to agree/disagree, this whole thing is confusing for sure.

When Tae-eul and Gon appear in KoC and Gon remarks, “We came to the same period in KoC… I left just a little while ago.”

To me, this makes sense if it’s an alternate scene to the one on Ep 4 (the dialogue “You guys totally startled me.” also mirrors this). Because if Gon means his present day, then it does not make sense for Yeong to search for him frantically like that, involving lots of the guards as well. In present day, Yeong already knows Gon travels off-world every weekend, so at most he’ll wait for him on his own, not risking the discoveries from the other guards as well.

So, if we treat it as something that happens in Ep 4, then remember, at that time, Yeong still doesn’t know who Tae-eul really is. He just knows that Gon suddenly reappears in the forest, with a mysterious lady. (What I don’t understand is why Tae-eul decides to give him a little wave there. She probably forgets that Yeong doesn’t recognize her yet, I dunno. It puzzles me as well, TBH. But this timeline fits the most.)

In line with that, Tae-eul asking Gon, “Who, after Yeong, finds out next?” —> they’re recalling what happened in Ep 4 as well. After Yeong, it’s Lady Noh who grumbles upon seeing them together. So the answer to your question, it’s “a)”.

Yeong definitely retains his memory, don’t worry. But his past self still needs to experience them bit by bit as the events unfold in his timeline. In other words, present!Yeong remembers, but past!Yeong still has yet to experience some stuff first.

Time-travel timelines just is really damn tricky.

And, also, yes, Yeong lives. Must be thanks to the great KoC bulletproof vest. His whole body must be sore, and he probably still suffers a few fractures/broken bones from the bullet impact to the vest, but he’s not greatly injured to the point of death. Bullet impacts still hurt a lot, though, and he's taken lots of them, so at the end there, I think he's just thoroughly exhausted.

2

Oh My God, as I finished retyping my comment above, I just realized something new.

If it is indeed the alternate scene to Ep 4, then Yeong and Seung-ah's romance has progressed way faster! They're together already on Ep 4, cute! Okay, it's my headcanon then, LoL

1

Okay @silverdrafts. I think you forgot the micdrop. Your theory regarding skipping back to episode 4 is brilliant. Everything fits if we think about it that way. Would you like to edit or rewrite this drama? Actually, I think you ought to travel back in time, tie up the present production team while you take over. Thank you in advance for your future service.

Also, Yeong and Seung-ah getting together early on is way cute. Whether or not this is canon, I'm gonna choose to believe your theory is what transpired and live my life happy. Peace.

LoL, you're too kind, @kakakash. I'm flattered, but I think best not.

In my hands, it's gonna be such a different drama: crime-solving between two worlds and alternate timelines, full of teamwork and bromances and action, plus ridiculous dialogues and full of shameless fan services (e.g. too much camerawork spent on close-ups of WDH's chiseled jaw and hands and just all of him, basically, and also LMH & KKN's side profiles). And even more ridiculous PPLs that break the 4th wall.

Agree. I think the best way to enjoy TK:EM is to binge-watch it rather than watching it week by week like most of us do. Therefore, you can just enjoy the ride and not spend too much time speculating any theories/getting irked by plot holes and lack/confusing logic and able to focus on the characters themselves, which are the best thing about this drama (when they're not being OOC as hell), IMO.

Me too. I love the playful vibes on Ep 16 so much. And the intense fight scene, ofc :)

Question for anyone who has seen The Scholar Who Walks The Night - are the vampires scary? Looking for something to watch with my sister and the description sounds entertaining (Vampires! Joseon period! Cross-dressing!) but also I am a wimp 😂

We tend to stick to romantic comedies (the more trope laden the better) so any good ideas in that vein welcome too!
