Fandom to romance for Park Bo-gum, Park So-dam in Record of Youth

In the next batch of promos for tvN’s upcoming Record of Youth, a new poster and video teaser has been released.

The poster features the main trio of the drama, played by Park Bo-gum (Boyfriend), Park So-dam (Parasite), and Byun Woo-seok (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency). Their characters represent the youth of this generation who are working tirelessly to pursue their dreams and passions, even when facing against the harsh realities around them. The drama will follow their growth and maturity as they deal with different challenges and learn to make a path for themselves while living in this world.

In this story Park Bo-gum plays an aspiring actor named Sa Hye-joon, who resiliently strives forward in order to achieve his dream. Park So-dam takes on the role of Ahn Jung-ha, a sensible and hard-working make-up artist, who is a fan of Park Bo-gum’s character.

Much like Park Bo-gum, Byun Woo-seok’s Won Hae-hyo also dreams of acting. He works hard to be recognized for his own efforts and talent, rather than his family background.

The newly released teaser is a preview of Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam’s developing relationship and it starts with a quick cut of him taking her hand. We see him taking notice of her and he says, “I wanted to tell you this.” In a sequence of shots, Park So-dam is shown in fan mode: looking up photos of Park Bo-gum, browsing his Instagram, taking videos of him at a fashion show, and preparing a gift. But then it cuts to a drunk Park So-dam who slurs, “I’ve decided to quit being your fan.”

In the next sequence, we see Park So-dam in her job. She looks in awe at her surroundings and we see rows of cosmetics as well as her own brush collection featured on her Instagram. Park Bo-gum watches as she applies make-up on his face and it cuts to the two having coffee together. As they laugh over their mutual foam mustaches, we hear him confess, “I feel at ease when I’m with you. I feel safe and comfortable.” Park So-dam responds, “It feels like I’m alone in the world,” and we see her sitting by herself on the bus while it rains outside. We cut back to Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam together, walking under an umbrella in the rain. He assures her, “Oppa will call you when it rains. You’re not alone.” And the teaser comes to a close as the two share a charged moment. They look at each other as Park Bo-gum ties a scarf around Park So-dam’s neck and she asks hesitantly, “Isn’t this abrupt?”

I’m excited to see this, being a fan of both Park So-dam and Park Bo-gum. And I’m definitely in the mood for a sweet and somewhat fluffy romance. Sadly, Park Bo-gum is starting army duty next month on August 31, so it’ll be a while before he returns to our screens. All fingers and toes crossed hoping this will be good!

Written by Ha Myung-hee (Temperature of Love) and directed by PD Ahn Gil-ho (Watcher, Forest of Secrets), tvN’s Record of Youth will be premiering September 7 and broadcasting Mondays and Tuesdays.

This show makes me think of a Krispy Kreme right out of the oven at 6:00 am: little of substance, possibly a little too sweet but nothing is better at the time I am enjoying it. And sheesh, I think PGM and PSD just broke the cute meter by utterly exploding it.

I think you're gonna be right on the money.

I don't trust HMH because I remember her terrible trainwreck in TOL and Doctors (really?). But this time, it involves with my favorite Korean starlet - So Dam, I'm giving HMH a chance to redeem herself.

I hope if anything, it's that please do not derail female character for the sake of male characters. That's all I'm asking for.

Personally, it would be great if somehow, HMH can write fully three dimensional female characters like the scriptwriter for My Unfamiliar Family.

Ahhhhhh I'm so excited for this!! PBG is the cutest and I love PSD's acting so fingers crossed that this is good!

Also, I'm getting some My Private Life vibes and I'm not complaining... :)

I remember how when back I was skeptical about It's Ok Not To Be Ok because the writer's previous work was totally subpar, and damn was I wrong because as everyone who already watched IONTBO knows at this point that the writing for that drama is just straight-up STELLAR! For this series, I actually have much more expectation because the writer's previous work (Temperature of Love, which would've been much more better if left at 16 or less episodes with tighter story and less filler) was actually not that bad! That's why it's so hard sometimes to tell whether the drama is going to be really good, or just good, or so-so, or a plain disaster. I normally stop at full hour 4 episodes before making my judgement to continue with the show or not. After watching countless hours of k-drama, I tend to pick up on "bad" and "disaster" pretty quickly, so not to continue wasting my time on something that the writer obviously slacked on or the PD obviously never thought through. Sometimes, however, it's easier to tell by the previews and "buzz" (and the first episode recap), not to even waste my 4 hours on that TV series because it looks like TOD from 100 miles away. In conclusion, it's hard to tell with this drama. I'm not a big fan of PBG (he's cutie though), but I liked PSD in Parasite, so I'll give it at least 4 hours of my life. In the end, sometimes only Drama Gods know!

I don't like TOL, and I think it was a drag. I'm not even gonna mention High Society and shstick. HMH is kinda on and off on her drama. I heard HMH's A Word from Warm Heart is good though.

But I read Byun Woo Seok's interview with W Korea that HMH called him to check in on his characterization and making sure the story flows, so I'm hoping HMH would do the same for her female characters.

And I know I shouldn't drag past news again, but it's obvious that HMH wrote this drama based on Jang Ki Yong according to Byun Woo Seok's interview. If Jang Ki Yong didn't turn down this drama, he would be starring the role that Park Bo Gum is playing right now.

Perhaps, it may be even better as Jang Ki Yong is irl a model turned actor. But alas, he turned it down and PBG took this project.

I too think TOL was a draaaaaag. It did explore a lot of interesting ideas and themes, so there's hope. I didn't know that Jang Ki Yong turned it dow -- ugh, are we maybe getting ourselves with a bit of a mess with this drama?

TOL was pretty much HMH's self projected drama - the idea of scriptwriter falling in love with a chef and being in three triangle romance with a rich man.

Jang Ki Yong said in his interview that he wants to play in depth character instead of basic pretty boy characters, so I'm not sure if that's a hint for saying PBG's current character is shallow and vain. Honestly, it wouldn't surprised me that if it is. This seems like a safe role for PBG because it fits with his image.

So Dam looks absolutely radiant in the poster. It captures her very well. The light in her eyes and beautiful smile.

I'll be honest - the *only* reason I'm looking forward to this is because Ahn Gil-ho is the PD-nim. Anything in the hands of the person who made Stranger and Watcher will be interesting to watch, although can a director who does thrillers so well also do a rom-com equally well? (Also I'm a little miffed that he's not the director for Stranger 2, so I want to see what he's spent his valuable time making instead).

The cast, however, does not sound exciting to me at all:

I'm not a fan of Park Bo-gum (even as much as I loved R88!), or Park So-dam (I *hated* Cinderella and the 4 Knights, although she was good in Parasite). And I'm only moderately curious to see if Byun Woo-seok is as beautiful without long hair and a hanbok (as much of a scenestealer he was, he didn't have much of an acting role in - the meh - Flower Crew :/).

I also anticipating both PD-nim because of the same reasons and I'm a bit afraid of how FoS 2 will be held by another PD.
Imo PSD had a crazy chemistry with Ahn Jae-Hyun in Cinderella but the plot seems against my will so I dropped it as well.

Honestly, indeed, it's a terrible drama but I've been PSD fan since Priest era so I'm gonna watch every drama she's been in even it's only 2-3 episodes lol

Same here. I've been Sodam stan since The Priests and her acting is always so great to watch.

I hope for her sake that this drama is a success and the story is not that bad. Keyword is not *that* bad.

LOL, it is terrible drama. I didn't like Beautiful Mind either because the plot is too drag.

I love Beautiful Mind it's one of the most memorable drama I've watched, and the ost too. PSD and JH was my favorite couple back then.

I share your feelings.
I'm not a big fan of PBG either, I've only seen him in Encounter and even if I liked the drama, didn't specially liked him (personally I find him little attractive).
I was not going to watch the drama, but then I realized PD awas the one behind Stranger and Watcher and... let's see if he's a William Wyler.

The 3 actors look really good on the poster and I like their acting. I prefer BWS with short air than long hair, his wig in Flower Crew was not the best. I love this hair color on PSD, she is shining :)

I like the PD and the writer, her last drama was dragy but I liked it.

I have never seen any show PBG starring in. I have been PSD in Parasite and thought she was great in it. But upon hearing from a comment above that the PD is the one who was behind Stranger I became suddenly interested in the show.

Yes, I, too, am sad that the PD doesn't do Stranger 2 as well. I am a bit on the fence about the new combo of the writer and PD in Stranger 2.

He should do a sageuk as his comeback drama. Some actors pull off historical costume and bun, some don't. But he is one of the few that truly rock their historical look. I never knew him before Moonlight drawn by clouds, I watched for his partner (besides the story), but he was excellent in the role, overshadowed everyone.
