Lee Min-ki and Nana confirmed for new MBC drama

Lee Min-ki, Nana

A romance is set to bloom between Lee Min-ki (The Lies Within) and Nana (Memorials) in the upcoming MBC drama Oh! Master. Lee Min-ki stars as a successful screenwriter who chooses not to love, and Nana plays a top actress who doesn’t know how to date.

Famous for being the best thriller-drama scriptwriter in the business, Lee Min-ki’s character deliberately chooses not to date. On the other hand, Nana’s character was nicknamed “Korea’s Rom-com Queen” for all the acting roles she’s had in the past, but the actress herself doesn’t know the first thing about dating.

It’s not the most exciting setup, but I think Oh! Master could be a cute fluffy romp if done well. Lee Min-ki’s track record with rom-coms has been excellent so far (The Beauty Inside, Because This Life is Our First), and I found Nana to be a gem in Memorials so I’m excited for their pairing. Especially with Jo Jin-gook, the writer who penned Fated to Love You and Soulmate onboard, Oh! Master has a lot of potential.

MBC drama Oh! Master, written by Jo Jin-gook and directed by Hyun Sol-ip, will begin airing in March 2021.

The best Lee Min Ki's rom-com is Dal-ja's Spring! It was so good!

I really liked Nana in Into the Ring. But I think she's like Jung Eun Ji or Hyeri for me, they're good in loud and strong characters but not so good in character that ask more subtlety... So I hope she will be good because I really want to see LMK after The Lies Within, the story was really frustrating...

The Lies Within was mediocre, but he was EXCELLENT in it. I honestly consider it one of his very best performances. So it was worth it for me, haha. I loved Tae-shik!

The actors were great and I was happy to see him in a different role after 2 love stories.

I am watching Dal ja's spring, by the way. On ep. 7... so far so good

Oooooh, a first-time Dalja viewer! It may be very stylistically dated, and some of the subplots are unnecessary and very 2000s, but I think it was ahead of its time in many ways with its flawed, three-dimensional heroine and focus on female characters. And, of course, a sweet Spare Tire to boot! Love their relationship. So unlike most dramas of the time! I didn't watch it until 2017/2018 and I still thoroughly enjoyed it!

The tongue-in-cheek music choices still make me laugh when I think about them. And Dal-ja's ridiculous imagination!

Enjoy watching!

Thanks!- yes, I recognize a lot of 2000 subplots that honestly I don't care about, but I am enjoying because it gets to surprise me whenever I think it's going too cliche and suddenly 😱.... something I didn't expect to happen.
I love the spare tire...
the eom ki joong guy is sooo boring. A waste of material for a second lead...
The people in the office: a little bit annoying and one dimensional.
But all in all together, I am enjoying watching. Doing it with my sister and therapist, both of them in different countries, so we watch one ep per day and comment about it... it is fun😅😀😁😄

I consider Nana and Jung Eun-ji to be a tad more adept than Hyeri in this area, but agree they have room for improvement. Nana gave a very sparkly comedic performance in Into the Ring, but it was her more introspective moments that grounded the whole show for me and I find that encouraging for her growth in the future.

I watched it recently and it was such a good show. And way ahead of it' time.

This sounds boring and tame on paper, but with Lee Min Ki on board and a pairing with Nana that I think will work great after watching her in Memorials, I think this will be a hit. I cannot wait!

AHHHHH IM EXCITED

I was at first like "I'm not gonna let myself be excited" but then I realized if I don't get excited now and it ends up being bad then that is 0 happiness and that is no fun. Better happy now and sad later than sad now and sad later. So.

My favorite actor with one of my favorite actresses from one of my fave shows of the year! It was a pairing I was secretly hoping for but I never get what I want and I was afraid to say it!

The title concerned me at first but after realizing it was a play on Nana's character name Oh Ju-in it made a lot more sense to me, but I still hope they change it lol.

I'm still scarred by Beauty Inside but Min-ki's rom-com track record has more good than bad imo so whatever! I'll let myself be excited!

GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEE!

Why is March so far away?!

HAHAHA, for some reason I saw this and thought it was fake, or just a rumour. Too good to be true.

You know, if he's going to be a scriptwriter I hope to see him inserting some hilarious PPL in his thriller dramas.

Almost.

Since it will be on MBC...it would be meta if Han Bi Soo was the writer of Kairos since it's a thriller. Then I'll get extra Kairos behind the scenes embedded in a drama. Yay 🤣🤣🤣

2

Haha. I love your drama philosophy @mindy. Can I borrow it?
I am pretty excited too. I don't care if it has a familiar premise because the execution is the key.

Hehehe, of course! And I totally agree, execution is key. I remember most people (including me, I think) thinking Because This Life is Our First's premise didn't sound all that exciting but it became a hit here on DB because it was executed so well and was so much more than what was on paper. I don't wanna set my expectations THAT high (it's my favorite drama lol), but I definitely am going to keep an open mind!

Are we SURE the actress isn't the one who chooses not to? Because otherwise I think she would have had no trouble finding guys who would be willing to show her.

Plot line as realistic as always regarding women in her 30 who don’t know “how to date”.

I'm curious, because a different article I read had it described a bit differently, like she has dated but has terrible luck with her relationships, or something like that? I guess we'll see.

We all know the only way to solve this impasse of not being able to date or not wanting to date is to have a contract marriage or contract relationship. Please let it include a cat. :D

The Soompi article says they will end up living together: https://www.soompi.com/article/1424273wpp/lee-min-ki-and-nana-confirm-for-upcoming-romantic-comedy-drama

Oh god if this is a contract relationship... It will be his 4th contract relationship drama......

2

I love contract marriage / relationship trope. But then, I've already seen this drama haha.

But... if there is a cat, then everything would be better.

3

Yes. Seen it. Better with cat.

i love lee minki! and i've heard so much good things (and seen a couple of clips) about nana from memorist. the premises sound bland on paper, you know, opposites attract cliche but with all the names behind it, i have hope in the drama.

Ok, I’ve already seen this drama, and I’ve also dropped it, but I’m totally in with these leads!!!

I just want to know why all the rom-com queen actress in drama land have no idea about dating. I know this is a common trope and everything, but things should be changing...

Wow... Nana seems to looking for a new fictional love next year. Anyway, I knew if she will fit well as her best character in Oh Master, I promised to have good luck with her still-curly long hair just like in Memorials did.

FATED TO LOVE YOU remains the very best re-make of the classic T-drama, so this writer knows and understands rom-coms. Nana was outstanding in MEMORIALS and Lee Min-ki was stellar in BECAUSE THIS LIFE IS OUR FIRST, which transcended rom-coms- so I know he is up to this and is a natural fit for Nana. This should be a winner- and we need really good fluff in times like these, so it is even timely.

I’m ready! Lmk delivers lines like no one else. Well, almost no one. *cough* Gong Yoo *cough* But as a certain someone seems to have sworn off rom-coms for the time being, I’ll gladly indulge myself here. 2021 is looking up already.
