Kim Do-wan to join Hyeri and Jang Ki-yong in new drama

Kim Do-wan

The trending actor Kim Do-wan from Start-up has chosen his next project. He’ll be joining Hyeri (Miss Lee) and Jang Ki-yong (Born Again) in upcoming webtoon-based drama Frightening Cohabitation.

The serial webtoon Frightening Cohabitation began in 2017 and has enjoyed a long streak of popularity ever since. It’s about a male gumiho who has yearned to become a human for hundreds of years. He even has a human occupation, as an author. Just as his goal is within reach, he loses his gumiho soul-marble to a female college student who swallows it by accident. Jang Ki-yong is set to play the gumiho, and Hyeri the college student.

Unfortunately, the gumiho soul-marble cannot exist in a human’s body for over a year. Any longer than that and it will crack inside the human and kill them. If that happens, the gumiho can never become a human. In order to protect his marble and find a way to get it out of her, Jang Ki-yong proposes living with Hyeri. Kim Do-wan will play Hyeri’s best guy friend.

The drama will be directed by Baek Seung-ryong (Pegasus Market). JTBC has yet to schedule when Frightening Cohabitation will air, but I’m hoping that we won’t have to wait too long.

I am guessing there is something about the premise not mentioned here, unless emetics, stomach pumps or natural digestive processes do not exist in this show's universe.

Knowing kdramas, and also Fox Beads, the mechanics of the mishap probably don't matter. 😂 But it'd be nice if it had a fun explanation anyhow.

If it's from the director of Pegasus Market, hopefully it'll be quirky!

The drama will be directed by Baek Seung-ryong (Pegasus Market).

That's the good news, but... Hyeri has never impressed me. And does anyone else think gumihos losing their marbles has been overdone? Have they no other place to lose them to than inside some pretty lady?

It probably has, however the Fox Bead is one of the few things that makes the Korean Gumiho distinct from its cousins the Japanese Kitsune and the Chinese Huli Jing, so I can imagine that being such an integral part of Korean Mythology, its imperative it turns up in dramas about gumihos, and them either losing it or giving it.

A short comedy about a gumiho losing it in some alternative and highly (and hilarious) inaccessible place wherein shenanigans ensure to retrieve it though would be definitely be welcome.

I would watch that...

Change it slightly - write it from the view of the fox bead as it travels through various places, times, and hands - whilst making satiric/snide comments... especially about its owner’s inability to hold onto/recapture the bead...

The Fox -Bead Diaries?

I'm more concerned about Jang Ki-yong. He's been pretty meh for his last few projects.

His career compared to his former label mate/former model mate Nam Joo Hyuk is interesting. JKY got the critical acclaim first w/ Come and Hug Me/My Mister, and followed it up with Kill It/Search WWW, but Born Again was a bust.

When he brings it/right role, dude can be great to watch imo. He's also still with YG, maybe its time to switch acting agencies?

I thought he did alright in Come and Hug Me and Go Back Spouses (haven't watched My Mister). However, I thought he was pretty crummy in Kill It, Search WWW, and Born Again. I'm not sure what to think of him at this point.

He was brilliant in My Mister, but it was a fairly small role.

Does JKY have any musical theater skills? I could use a well integrated but completely random musical number...

Hmmm another male gumiho...
Well, I like both Jang Ki-yong and Kim Do-wan, and PD from Pegasus Market, I'll definetely check this out.
Kim Do-wan can do soooo much more than the character he plays in Start-Up. He is a great actor.
Hopefully it opened up a lot of doors for him and he will choose good roles to shine.

Hum, I'm not a big fan of the both main actors. JKY is not really good to choose his projects. Hyeri's acting is weak.

But cohabitation's plot is fun to watch.

Cohabitation in one of my catnips, I like it. I want it!
I am also ok with the fantasy aspect of it.
I loved Hyeri in Miss Lee (I think I may be one of the fewest beanies who watched miss Lee from beginning to end, LOL, but I did).

It could be the JTBC version of Tale of the Nine-Tailed. I might disappoint a bit if these similarities will happen. Despite of this, I'll try this.

Kang Han-na is also in the cast too! But as a 2nd FL :( So a mini Start Up reunion ha! While Yong-san is an annoying character, you still do understand where the actor is coming from too. As for the drama, I heard the manwha was really well received. Plus Jang Ki-yong, oh buddy he needs another hit!! is in it which is always a +.

(P.S: Isn't he enlisting soon? I guess he's pulling a PBG by enlisting once this ends?).

LOL, I remember reading a knetz comment that Jang Ki Young used up all his luck with Im Soo Jung.
I heard Kang Hanna is in this project? It is a crime that they are signing her up as second lead but won't give her screen time or a good character arc.

Because it behaves like an internal parasite - latches on and sucks the life out of the host. And that split part happens when the Gumiho soul-sphere is ready to reproduce. One sphere becomes two, and the potential for a new Gumiho is created.

Sort of like the parasite from The Alien series of movies...
