Ramyun à la carte

It’s election day (days? week(s)?) here in the States, and there’s no better way to cope than to stress eat. I have my pizza order ready and pints of ice cream in the freezer, but this Noodle Lover BeanieBox is the comfort food I need to get through this desperate and unpredictable time. Ramyun is a trusty companion whether or not you have company, a true versatile staple for the best and worst of times.

The great ramyun selection — soup and sans soup — in one package is what I want when I get my Korean groceries. I often crave two different types of ramyun at once, and being tied to one type of noodle in one package is too limiting for my vast cravings. Imagine a build-your-own ramyun package and the freedom to select a five-pack without all the same type of ramyun. I have yet to see this idea manifested, but this BeanieBox is the closest I’ve seen to my ideal ramyun shopping experience.

In addition to some classic ramyun noodles like kimchi ramyun and seafood ramyun, I was excited to see a few other options in the BeanieBox, particuarly the bibimyeon and jjajangmyeon noodles. While I love soup, these two soupless noodles were my immediate first choices to try. Two different noodles at once — the perfect party for my taste buds.

I’m not a purist when it comes to cooking ramyun. I use the instructions on the package as simply a guide for cooking time and take the pot off the stove when the noodles are firm because they’ll continue cooking in the residual heat. I add as many vegetables as I have in my fridge for a healthy twist and to convince myself that I’m eating a real adult meal full of nutrients. For the bibimyeon and jjajangmyeon, I added cabbage, onions, carrots, and of course, an egg. I found the two noodles quite compatible together, and I tied the savory, sweet, and tangy meal together with some fried dumplings I had left over in my freezer.

Before eating this meal, did I have a photoshoot of the noodles? You bet I did. With the help of my assistant (my sister), I took some quality photos of the final product, hoping that it could meet food blog/influencer status. How did I do?

I almost missed my goodie in the box because it was so small, but good things come in small packages, especially during COVID-19 times. I received a handy mask necklace to clip my mask to, and it’s been convenient to hang the mask around my neck and not worry about dropping this essential accessory. I’m looking forward to enjoying the rest of my noodles, and in the face of a potential apocalypse, I am counting my blessings and thankful for all the goodies in this box, for the comfort, ramyun, and pandemic prevention — the best exports we can ask for.

We asked dramallama to review our Noodle Lover BeanieBox. Each box is full of different brands of ramyun and savory Korean treats so make sure to subscribe by November 16th to get this month’s box. Shipping is free to the United States, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

It looks great dramallama! I think you can be a cook :)

why don't you try making Jjapaguri; I heard that the dish is the combination of 2 ramyeons also. If you like mixing things, you might as well like it. I heard about it the first and only time while watching Parasite. Still haven't tried making this one.

Where I used to live there was a Korean shop and I would always buy the jjajangmyeon pack version. DI-VINE. In my current city there there are only Chinese shops/ supermarkets and I can find my favourite brand of ramyun, kimchi and all that, but no jjajangmyeon and I miss it SO much. Now I am so jealous. And the boxes are not even available in here.
