CLOY and Itaewon definitely gave out a lot of meme worth scenes, iconic hairstyles/styles. Perfect for theme parties.
I was surprised by how much I liked Stove League. Because of this show, I was so invested in baseball.
I wanted to like Forest of Secret this second season because I love the first season, but it wasn't as good.
Do You Like Brahms makes me feel a whole lot... lol.

Well only 10 beans for me although I have never dropped as many shows as I did in the last year and I think that's because I had never started so many. I think I'm just going to give each of the shows I have watched one bean (minus Itaewon Class although I didn't hate it) since I only finished the ones that I love plus Memorial cause I only skipped the last episode for some random reason but loved the show altogether:

Great unifying story across borders, interesting plot, side characters mattered and were real, great acting.

VIP: 4 beans. Very intense, cathartic, so well acted!

A Piece of Your Mind: 2 beans
Close up dissection of the subtlety of emotion, chance encounters, and our choices. Intriguing, thought=provoking.

Never Twice: 2 beans. I loved the characters and the virtue of their actions, and the rewards for the wronged.

This year I had the most time to watch dramas, and to my surprise, I only watched 3 full dramas! I dropped many.

My 3 beans come from Hyena, Itaewon Class and Unfamiliar Family, and I give ALL THREE to...🥁 Hyena!🍾🎉

I love Kim Hye Soo! And in the process of watching this drama, I became a fan of Ju Ji-hoon.

I have only like 6-8 (?) beans this year, maybe less - I can't remember lols. But I know for sure I am piling all of them beans onto Forest of Secrets 2 with all my hopes for a 3rd season. *sending good vibes to kdramaland's overseer*

So, 9 beans this year. (Did I miss seeing PBG/PSD’s Record of Youth on the bean count?) During COvid, I was actually busier than usual, reading everything I could about a novel virus we know next to nothing about, then trying to right a sinking ship—still not sure how that’s possible right now. (All I want for Christmas is my Covid19 vaccine!) I also watched the BL Korean drama, Where your eyes linger, so 1/4 a bean? And two Chinese dramas. So a very productive year for me all in all. I can’t say I watched “Where My love blooms” even though I was in the room while my husband devoured it. Jin Young couldn’t get me to stay through the latter parts. Oh, and I think I finished a couple old ones too: Healer, for sure. Maybe another.

I thought I watched plenty of dramas until I actually counted and realized I only finished 8. I rarely finish dramas I don't like so everyone gets 1 bean except Brahms which I think lost its bean as the story wimped out and the extra bean goes to Mystic Pop Up Bar for surprising me in so many ways and for only having 12 episodes when that's all you need. The runner up was Flower of Evil for giving LJG something worthwhile to do and for making a female character be smart and tough without turning into a stereotype.

Others which kept their bean were Kingdom II, Crash Landing on You (still don't like the weird ending), It's OK Not To Be OK, Tale of the 9 Tailed, Forest of Secrets 2 (barely - the more time goes by, the more I meh I get on this show). I feel like I watched a drama with 3 female spies but I can't remember the name. The extra bean will now officially go to Flower of Evil.

15 beans for me! So...

🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭 It's Okay. Yes, the plot with the mother almost killed it, but it made me think and feel and ponder and reflect so much, and I'm richer for it.
🍭🍭🍭🍭 Start Up. Halmoni was simply the most beautiful character I met this year.
🍭🍭 Mystic. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. But the friendship was so precious!
🍭🍭 Crash Landing. For all the supporting characters. I cared about Every Single One, but especially the ducklings. A brilliantly imagined world.
🍭 Do You Like Brahms. Story had flaws, but our two leads sizzled. Loved the discussions we had!
🍭 The King. For Woo Do-hwan who brought so much joy to the screen as Eun-seop. The minute he appeared, I would start smiling. What a star!

I watched 26 kdramas but only earned 4 beans 😅 (which will be a potato since I can't find a bean on my phone)

Backstreet Rookie had the best OTP, although everything else was bad. Brahms had my favorite world and TONT had the best ensemble.

Couple's World because of the stellar acting I give 3 beans.
Chocolate was a very sad story especially considering the patients in the hospital who are all terminal. I also really enjoyed the slow burn of their love. The two cousins slowly becoming friends was the icing on this cake , 3 beans
Kingdom was non stop shocks and great action so 3 beans too.
Will you have dinner with me was a relaxing romantic drama. 2 beans
Unfortunately I have not seen anything else on the list.

Reason: I gave 2 beans just because I totally love the chemistry between the 2 main leads, Cho Seung-Woo and Bae Doo-Na. I wanted to give 3 beans but in my opinion, season 1 storyline was definitely more interesting than season 2 so 2 beans it is then.
8. Start-Up - ❤️️ bean
Reason: Kim Seon-Ho 😍 I only knew of his existence after reading the recap of You Drive Me Crazy in dramabeans back in August and the rest is history. Totally love his portrayal of Han Ji Pyeong and the only reason I actually finished watching this is because of the chemistry between Ji Pyeong and Halmoni 😍 Plus, the casting of Nam Da-Reum as the younger version of Kim Seon-Ho is totally spot-on.

The first bean count for me and I seem to have watched more dramas than I realized. 46 beans to give.

These dramas really stood out from the rest in 2020
Crash Landing on You 💗💗💗: Wow. Hyun Bin should always wear a uniform or a turtleneck.
Start-Up 💗💗💗: I found it all together likeable. Adorkable is my style.
Hospital Playlist 💗💗💗: Script, cast, production were everything was excellent. The only ding is learning that Ahn Chi-hong won't be returning.
A Piece of Your Mind 💗💗💗: I only wish we'd gotten those other 4 episodes. This was just what I needed this spring during lockdown.
These dramas surprised me with how much I enjoyed them
Extracurricular 💗💗: I didn't expect to get so swept up in this one, but it was excellent. Worth binging way past my bedtime!
365: One Year Against Destiny 💗💗: What a surprise! I really liked the leads and the twisty plot. It was the drama I didn't know I needed.
My Unfamiliar Family 💗💗: A bright spot in my year. The acting and story were so well done. But can I be honest and say that I actually had a little bit of SLS with this one?
Find Me in Your Memory 💗: This put Moon Ga-young on my radar. I really want to see more from her.
These dramas were so strong at the beginning and so fun to discuss on DB, but just didn't sustain it until the end...
Flower of Evil 💗💗: A wild, sexy ride! Loved the leads, but not the nutjob.
Do You Like Brahms? 💗💗: I haven't liked an OTP this much in a long time. I just wish the melancholy would have lifted a bit sooner.
Dramas I enjoyed watching but were not more or less than expected
Record of Youth💗: I just can't hate Park Bo Gum and thought the early flirty/dating stuff felt so true to life.
I'll Find You on a Beautiful Day 💗: not my favorite Park Min Young role, but overall just so enjoyable.
The King 💗: Big and bold and spotty at times. I'm not sad that I watched it, if only for that neck kiss.
Forest of Secrets 2 💗: Overall not as strong as season 1, but still fantastic! Love our leads and every second the were on screen together was magic.

Even though I learned to drop dramas if I was not hooked early, I still managed to finish 19. My list does reflect a very strong FL performance bias. In order from best to worst (* for beans):

1. Chocolate (* * * *): The best quiet, healer of the year.
2. Stove League (* * *): Well written and acted unique, sports theme drama.
3. Hi Bye, Mama (* * *): A proper end to a wonderful story.
4. Mystic Pop Up Bar (* *): My HDL hangover drew me into this one.
5. Crash Landing on You (*): First drama where I totally erased expectations, illogic of premise and plot to just watched it for entertainment value.
6. Birthcare Center (*): Nearly dropped after Ep 2, but binged through the rest to find well written ensemble characters with some dark humor.
7. Lies of Lies (*): Despite some procedural flaws, the story was fully developed and landed its ending.
8. How to Buy A Friend (*): This one was like finding a $20 bill in an old pair of pants. Simple and well done.
9. 9.9 Billion Won Woman (*): It has influenced all the twisty "steal the money" dramas that followed it.
10. Love is Beautiful, Life is Wonderful (*): I do not care for chaebol stalker plots, but this weekender had a fine cast performance.
11. Once Again (*): Another weekender with a fine cast performance.
12. Memorials: Quirky and fun after a slow start but I thought the ending was weak and OTP relationship not clearly resolved.
13. My Dangerous Wife: It started off great but burned through the main story line too fast to become a stolen money chaser with a very weak ending.
14. Tale of the Nine Tails: If it ended with Episode 15 it would have ranked higher, but the last episode and its nonsense resolutions ruined it. And the main OTP was the weakest part of the show.
15. Oh My Baby: The lack of adoption options for a single woman gave the show a circular push-pull OTP story that was not special.
16. Was It Love?: Reverse harem story, but SJH character was not given the independence and strength that writer kept telling us. The secondary characters, especially the gangster and bar owner, were great.
17. Men are Men: The FL falling for the CEO stalker, including brainwashing attempt, failed me.
18. Meow: The premise was weak, the story was weaker. I stuck it out to see if ANYTHING interesting would happen. It did not.
19. Fix You (Soul Repairer): Worst drama I saw this year. The nonstop malpractice of the doctor and patient relationship was cringe worthy.

Well it was kind of hard to rate them will only 14 beans, so I gave beans to the shows I enjoyed most, with 3 beans being the maximum.
I have to say, even though 2020 was a disastrous, traumatic year, it was a pretty damn good drama year (for me). More than ever, dramas really gave me comfort and a place to escape to 💖

I experienced a very long hiatus from dramaland and Dramabeans and I tried several times to return.. I guess real life just got in the way (in a good way!), but I think it's about time I start to come back :) Nevertheless, I still managed to finish 8 dramas this year, and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them!

I never can participate in this holiday segment because I only finish dramas I like LOL. So each one gets a bean and it’s no fun. This year I surprisingly finished more dramas than the past couple years! And I have one extra bean because Vagabond was horrible and I have no clue how I made it through. Lee Seung Gi you can make a girl who drops almost every drama these days keep going even if she’s bitter about it.

Hmmm... I've been obsessing about beans this whole year & I don't think I'm satisfied with the narrow criteria. So I've tried to keep the spirit, but *My Beans, My Rules*.

If Netflix kdramas count towards beans count, then so should web-kdramas from other OTT platforms. Clearly tv broadcast isn't a restriction. Why should the big boys have all the fun? 🙃😉

Since drama specials don't seem to count per db custom, I've left out the super short webdramas from this.

In an ideal world, if other language dramas on mdl counted , then I'd give my bean love to some cdramas & jdramas over a few of the kdramas, because while those kdramas were promising in the beginning, these other language dramas were fabulous right from beginning till the end.

Therefore in another world I'd have 50 beans ; & out of those I'd give some to 'Someday Or One Day' , 'Raise De Wa Chanto Shimasu' , 'Find Yourself' & 'The Bad Kids' .

If 2019 was "The Year of the Sageuk", then 2020 was certainly "The Year of Crime and Mystery" in kdramaland. I loved the quantity and quality of crime and mystery this year. Well done writers-nim!

This year I have 24 beans to award and given the circumstances we are living under all my dramas will receive a bean. With one exception I enjoyed them all. Yes some were better than others but I am not excluding anyone this year. The exception I enjoyed through episode 8 and that was of course DO DO. (I did watch all 16 episodes.) I have 12 beans for crime/mystery and 12 beans for 'others".
Since crime/mystery is my favorite genre it is first up.
