Kim Ro-woon relentlessly, romantically pursues Won Jin-ah in new JTBC office drama

Puppy love begins in the latest teaser for Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick. Kim Ro-woon (Extraordinary You) and Won Jin-ah (Melting Me Softly) star in this upcoming JTBC workplace romance that takes place at a makeup company.

The pair both work at the same company and Kim Ro-woon is a fresh-faced newbie to Won Jin-ah’s experienced marketing expert. When Kim falls for her, she’s quick to reject his advances on the basis of his age, but as the teaser shows, Kim Ro-woon is no quitter.

Ro-woon waves an awkward hello at Won Jin-ah. In his voiceover, he dejectedly asks: “To you, Sunbae, I’m a kid, right? You’ve never thought of me as a man? Not even once?” He tosses and turns in bed, thinking over how to get over this romantic barrier. Amidst a pink backscreen, the following text appears: “A sunbae who doesn’t see her hoobae as a man.”

Despite that, Ro-woon doesn’t give up; he changes his love strategy completely. He wordlessly hands a coffee to Won Jin-ah as she’s working. He asks her: “So in order to get your attention, I just have to produce good work?” Then, a whole bunch of clips show him hard at work, trying to impress her. They have dinner together, and he considerately gives her a piece of kimchi.

At a late night at the company, we can see Won Jin-ah’s intense expression as she helps Ro-woon test out skincare products. Ro-woon’s voiceover says: “I’ve improved at least that much, right? If I can defend my superior…”

In the next scene, he does a mini-victory dance in the middle of the street and says: “I think your heart fluttered for a second there, right?” Copy on the blue screen says: “A perfect hoobae who only has eyes for his sunbae.” Ro-woon calls out to Won Jin-ah in numerous scenes with different tones at various venues. In the last scene, heart-thumping noises sound as he confesses again: “Sunbae, I like you.”

Monday-Tuesday drama Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick, will begin airing on January 18.

I'm sure Ro-woon's efforts will be swoony, but I wonder if there's any more plot than that?

'When Kim falls for her, she’s quick to reject his advances on the basis of his age, but as the teaser shows, Kim Ro-woon is no quitter.'

If it wasn't for the fact that the poster showed them kissing in the middle of the street, this sentence could have been easily misconstrued as him being a stalker. But they're drama leads so I guess I'm supposed to see it as romantic? How they execute and portray the puppy crush will be really important at the start of the show.

Plot-wise, I'm sure there will be the usual company politics up for play and of course once the romance kicks in I'm sure there'll be some sort of ruckus over the blurring line between professional and personal affairs. I saw the the poster with all 4 main leads and it seems the second leads are higher-ups at the company. Do I suspect non-linear love lines making a mess again? Oh yes.

What would be really interesting is if she holds her ground and keeps him at arm's length till the very end and finds romance elsewhere or if she does decide to give it a shot with him and finds out that it wasn't what she wanted. But I don't really see any hope in a twist from the usual romantic tropes given that this is an adaptation of a novel and yeah it's a story where they'll find love together. Hey, one can dream right?

They still look nice though. I'll keep my expectations low on the story and enjoy the main leads' tremendous efforts to not break their necks in those classic romance stares (who do I pity lol: him or her?).

These were the thoughts that popped into my head - I want to look forward to this drama, but I've always been apprehensive about workplace romances, so I guess we'll see how it goes.

I'm excited for this drama. I want to watch a real romance drama!

I have too many dead bodies with Awaken, Kairos, The Spies Who Loved Me or The Uncanny Counter.

The last romances I watched were Do You Like Brahms that I liked but found a little bit depressing near the end, DDSSLS was completely disapointing, Record of Youth was kinda boring.

I don't really care if the plot is just a romance in the office. If the character are well written, it's enough for me. I need sugar not more blood :p

Realized that I always confuse Cha Eun-woo & Kim Ro-woon, and I'm not even sure why.

They're both idols of boy groups that started around the same time and have, to my impression, a sort of equal level of popularity?

Cannot wait for the drama, after got swooned by Rowoon in Extraordinary You as a student, now I'm ready watching him as an adult worker who try so hard chasing his love. From webtoon itself the plot sounds ordinary (WJA's character was cheated by her fiancee and Rowoon will pretend to be her new boyfriend) but I trust the PD.

But from the teaser I still cannot get it how WJA will portray her character because she didn't talk at all and just listened rowoon :))

Well, at least our romantic and sexy puppy Ro Woon won’t have a Ji Pyeong (Start Up) breathing down his neck and stealing his limelight. He might get his lady stolen, at the end, per script, but not the audience’s hearts. With plenty of his own charisma, he won’t get overshadowed by the second lead. I hope.

Well, Kim Seonho is not just charismatic but a brilliant actor with the most expressive eyes. Not a lot of actors could go up against him and win. I actually never saw an episode of Start Up, I just know how good Seonho is and it was time he got his break through. He is a gem.

Eh, this teaser didn’t do much for me. His attempts could become too much. Ro Woon still looks cute, but Jin Ah barely said a word.

You can be sure that title won't survive English translation. It'll probably be released with a random English title like 'Something in the snow' or 'Meow, the secret coworker'.

The English title is "She Would Never Know".

That’s a terrible title. It’s so vague. What exactly is it that would she never know? Does he have a secret? If it’s that he like her, it seems pretty obvious in the teaser.

A clip from Extraordinary You popped up for me on Youtube today and got into watching a bunch of them and being reminded how stunningly handsome Ro-woon was as Haru.

I don't feel drawn to this drama, but glad there will be more Ro-woon-in-a-romantic-role content.

Ok, I'm actually a bit excited for this one! It's been a while since anything not thriller/cop related has peaked my interest, but this looks light and fluffy without being too ridiculous. I'll have to give it a try! (I want to watch Start Up, too haha)
