I've just started it, so I can't really tell right now. I watched the first episodes when it aired 3 years ago (for Jo Jung-seok and Kim Seon-ho), but dropped it then because I didn't like it that much. This time my love for Kim Seon-ho should be stronger 😉 and he is awesome 😍

That's why I mentioned it to you 😄 He is great and so is Jo Jung-seok, but I really really dislike Hyeri's voice and acting (that's why I dropped it 3 years ago). And I can't say anything about the story for now.
However, I'm shallow and just want to watch Kim Seon-ho in anything 😍

I'm just amazed how he just owns every character I've seen him play until now. He truly sparkles when he acts. Actually, I don't believe I ever thought of this expression while watching other actors in a drama, and I like many actors a lot.
And yes to another role as conman!

@swunnie I'm not saying this because I'm biased (lol) but I think he's one of those actors that was meant to be on stage/screen. He's charismatic and versatile. I've noticed that actors that start off in theater acquire a special type of experience/technique that allows them to interpret characters very well. It makes sense, as in theater they have to capture their audience's interest in a relatively short amount of time. Which makes me glad he's still doing plays; just a pity we can't enjoy those.

1. What is it about Reunited Worlds that has you rewatching? I made it through once thanks to not being as tired as I am now and my love for Yeo Jin Goo.
2. Did you finish Pretty Noona?
3. Do you regret saying that Black would go down as a great drama as long as the last two episodes were good?

Did you know December 14th was a holiday? I did not until k-drama linked social media had a large virtual celebration of the premiere of Crash Landing on You. I had never heard of fans celebrating the premiere date of their favorite show. But rabid international fans sent the CLOY cast elaborate cakes and gifts. CLOY is still immensely popular in Japan and the Philippines. Even though CLOY ended early in the year, it has been in the media all year including winning awards and fan driven polls. It gave the OTP a record number of endorsement deals.
One writer called CLOY a "gateway" show that hooked new international fans to k-dramas. As I wrote before the premiere, this was the first show I erased any expectations and did not do any story analysis (because the premise and story were so far-fetched) to just watch for the entertainment ride.

My 'Gateway' show was all the way back in 2013. 'Dating Agency: Cyrano' discovered on Hulu. To a new K-drama viewer all the familiar overused tropes are *fresh and new*. I wish I could go back in time to be moved again by a one year time jump or a hidden childhood connection.

LOL.
I agree that it's definitely a "gateway" show, or at least it was for me. I loved CLOY when I first watched it, but it didn't stand up well on an attempted second watch, and now that I've seen much much better shows, I'm completely over it.
The leads have obviously cashed out though, so good for them. Nothing lasts forever, except maybe a good investment portfolio. ;)

Awesome week - Good profits and then we have Test Cricket the best Cricket.
2 good days spend watching 18 hours of live but lively days of Test Cricket. Very much like life. Its when almost no one around me knows or watch cricket and when i watch the less liked form of Cricket.
I won't use the buzzword minority for myself for this little trivial fact but it amuses me how someone not sees the beauty of life in Test Cricket.

Few months back i talked about stock market and forex and i was an investor before and started to do live trading from may onwards.
I had also talked about someone who cried over loss - apparently my own sibling aka my family member.
Severl weeks ago i had also talked about what i consider the household income of rich - I did out it above 500k
I never mention currency because US dollar is world's reserve currency aka go to currency and i always assume everyone knows it. so 500k is 500,000$(excluding all taxes).
Well, in most others opinion that would be middle class but in my views 500k easily puts you into world's top 1% . You are into the top of food chain.
Forex - I never did. gonna start with 10k in January 2021 and if things go well, gonna add 40k more - Monthly target is 10%. be humble. But overall greedy target is 35-65% per month.
Stock Market - had lots of ups and down because of 2020 volatility - 100k investment with -16k trade loss and -49k profit loss -49k taxes and commissions.
11 more days to cover that 16k loss and move to 2021 with no profit no loss.
Got assistance of sibling and week going awesome. Sister the female showed far far better fiance management than me. That's one more lesson for me to learn and to implement it in real life social world.
I have seen people call Stock Market - gambling.
1000s of books are written on it - so does on gambling.
its legal - so is gambling in many parts of world
Way to get public investment - ahh... ahh...
does have unfair practices and scams - gambling is scam
Mother called it a game aka gambling and i felt hurt because i don't associate with gambling whatsoever. This looks so -ve on my profile. Stock market isn't about numbers or sentiment of people. Its way way broader than that. I find it the most fair in the whole human world(even though there exist so many unfair practices). Stock market is merely a medium for the firms to seek attention of potential customers and investors. Traders are there to milk the slippage inbetween.

I love Run On, True Beauty, Awaken, and Cheat on Me If You Can.
Run On, with our elfin Im Siwan once again carrying the emotion and power of the story, like Misaeng. He commands the stage, wow.
Awaken, also wow. But I’m curious, if someone kidnapped you and had surgery performed “for your good” (with no recovery time or side effects, yeah right), would you be okay with it? I mean, when Jamie finds out that it was Jung-Woo’s doing, she basically just said, “Oh, it was you?” and continued the conversation like it was no biggie. What? Still, I’m intrigued by the laboratory school and, of course sucker-wielding Jung Woo who cannot be the culprit.
True Beauty isn’t bad as a web-comic-made-kdrama. I grew to like Cha Eun-Woo as one of the new season’s cast on Master in the House. He carries his weight on that variety show. I like his steady acting as the cold, popular high school guy who hides his hurts well. Gosh, bullying over looks runs deep. Handsome bad boy Seon-Joon has his own burdens that he covers with his tough image. I’m liking this. Best line, “You shouldn’t play around with someone’s pain” (Im Ju-kyung).
Cheat on Me If You Can is outstanding. Yeo-Joo makes everyone stutter simply by her presence. And how can Woo-Sung be so bad at something he thinks he is so good at which is cheating? He is a stuttering fool over everything because he is trying not to get caught or he thinks he is caught. I love the dynamics of everyone’s relationship with Yeo-Joo. Actress Cho Yeo-Jeong is totally amazing!
Lee Seunggi is a featured singer on this week’s Sketchbook, so adorable! Singer, actor, variety entertainment celeb, and remember when he was and MC on Strong Heart? He has one of the more amazing careers at 33, I just read over his movies and dramas, what a super achiever! His reputation is spotless, too.
Next, for those who want a nice surprise update on Kim Ji Hoon, he appears on Home Alone. He reminds me so much of Orlando Bloom with his flowing locks and totally fit body (**fangirling**) – this may call for a rewatch of Stars Falling From the Sky and Flower Boys Next Door (I kinda miss the kdramas of those days). Ji Hoon, you’re looking sooo good!
So I’m happy with how kdramas are ending in 2020 and leading into 2021. Wishing you all a happy Christmas as we try to find ways to celebrate without some of the usual gatherings and travels. I know even office parties aren’t happening this year, as it is doesn’t seem like the right thing to do with COVID-19. One friend said her boss had lunch delivered to each of the employees and they zoomed for an office holiday lunch from their homes where they are working. Another friend will be one of the first to receive the vaccine this coming week as an east coast ER doctor. So, hang in there, let’s sprinkle some cheer where we can, and let’s support each other with prayers and well wishes all around. Onward and upward, and a merry Christmas, beanies! ♥owl

The plague has gotten scary enough here to make me stop going to the local supermarket (which I was doing only about once every 5 weeks) and try their "ship" and "deliver" options. Both worked. For those who haven't been doing this all along, some detail in a reply.

Lord Cobol
December 18, 2020 at 7:56 AM
"ship" is like Amazon with free shipping on orders over $35. My $50 order was broken into shipments from 3 different states that took between 2 and 8 days. Selection is limited but prices for things I wanted were same as in store -- better than Amazon. Main possible drawback is having to stay home wait for shipments to arrive, but since I'm staying home anyway...
"delivery" means someone picks items from the local store. There was a $10 fee and optional tip, otherwise prices were same as store. I was pleasantly surprised at how their system handles tips - you can specify one when you order but after the items arrived they sent an email with a link to where I could change the tip if things didn't go as expected. I suppose many of you have known this all along, but I thought that was cool.

i haven't used grocery delivery because i don't even like sending my hubby to the store for produce -- he gets the wrong size (either too small or too big), wilted greens that i would forgo but he buys because i put it on the list, etc...
have you been satisfied with the produce selected in your orders? just wondering...

December 18, 2020 at 11:23 AM
Didn't actually order any produce, just meat, cheese, cat food & litter, and lots of canned food. They did fine at all that.
Some background: I started stocking up on non-perishables long before the crowds - including TP when it was still plentiful, and TP (toothpaste). Then in March I shifted to going at least a month between supermarket visits instead of weekly, so my fresh produce consumption plummeted and cutting it down to zero is not a very big change. I also stocked up on vitamin pills, so if the canned food is vitamin-poor it should not be much problem.
FWIW, the web site seems to offer some options like specifying comments like "green" or "ripe" when ordering bananas.
And this is what the option to reduce the tip after the fact is good for - if they pick moldy cabbage they lose money. Does the hubby lose money when he messes up?? :)

Also, you can specify in advance whether or not they can substitute if any item is out of stock, and if something is out you get a text when the shopper can't find it, so I think you can send some extra instructions on the fly (?)
In my case they didn't have canned spinach, which was no surprise because there wasn't any on the shelf last time I was in the store.
Give it a try sometime - maybe just a small order...
spazmo
December 18, 2020 at 11:48 AM

I truly hope the situation regarding the plague in your country gets better soon. In my country (half the world away), the situation is still under control -with a little bit more than 10 people coming from other countries identified as positive each day nowadays. The economy is really bad of course; but as there aren't many infected the government is persuading people to travel around the country to help inject money into the system.

I'm an Amazon Prime member so I get Whole Foods same-day delivery for free with $35 purchase. The tipping option disappeared though. I guess given that in-store workers and regular Amazon delivery drivers weren't tipped, Whole Foods delivery drivers getting tipped wasn't fair to everyone else.
I don't trust grocery store workers with picking out fresh produce. I do the "hybrid" shopping of combining in-store pickup, curbside pickup or delivery with in-store shopping to reduce the amount of time I spend in-store.
Numbers wise, the current surge in Illinois is similar to those back in spring. Taking the same precautions, I feel pretty safe going to several stores during my every other week shopping trip. "Several stores" because no one store has everything at the quality and price that I want.

Hi all:
Hoping everyone is safe and healthy.
Dramas:
Kairos -- one of the best time thrillers. It has a bit of an issue with repetition with Mom being in danger and nobly idiotically not telling what she knows. But i can deal with it. I am so hoping our heroine ends up with the guy who obviously loves her. Drama better not hook her up with hero since they hardly have a relationship, father-friendship notwithstanding.
Mr Queen: So much fun! It's got what i want in sageuk (scheming old men, machinations and counter-machinations, masked heroines looking for secret documents) and what i want in a comedy. The actress is adorable!
Please don't date him: Good but it's not quite grabbing me.
Goddess of Revenge: Good but not quite grabbing me.
Cheat on Me: Good but am not feeling it
True Beauty: Love the gender role tropes reversals. I forgot how much i love sexy bad boys. I like Cha Eun Woo but am hoping his acting skills improve. Models usually take a while to become good actors. But if Lee Soo Hyuk can become a great actor, which he has become, then CEW can as well.
Run-on: I am loving this. Perhaps because in theory i do like oddball 4D male characters. (In real life, they can wear down the soul but in dramas they are downright charming.) There's such an innocence, sweetness, and a purity to Im SiWan's persona that few other kdrama actors have.
Alice in Borderland: an okay jdrama but not nearly as good as Liar Game because they didn't really play with the puzzle factor as much as they should and they didn't allow room for the audience to play a d puzzle things out. Am hoping when the kdrama Round Six arrives, it'll be fun and puzzly.
Might try Wacko At Law cdrama.
Awaiting: Lovestruck in the City, Sweet Home and Futmalls
Have a great weekend, all.

Beanies, hello! The end of the year begins its wrap up, and I sincerely hope that everyone gets some much-deserved rest and time to enjoy the things you love.
I'm frantically trying to finish my sister's present in time for Christmas. One sister's is done, the other's is somehow taking too much time. No way I'll get them framed in time, but I at least want something to wrap. The best laid plans, and all that (and my own poor choices for prioritizing episodes of Run On, Spies, and Schitt's Creek, I guess).
I'm seeing the pictures in the new of people getting their first vaccines, and so I want to give a special shout out to our Beanies and Beanie family members and friends who are healthcare workers, first responders, teachers, essential retail workers, cargo shippers and couriers - and to everyone else who makes up such an important part of our communities and who is carrying far more than their fair share of the burdens of 2020 on their shoulders for our society. Thank you! It's not enough to say that, but thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Wishing you all a happy weekend ahead. Stay well.

Seeing the stories about how inundated the postal service is right now, I’m especially grateful for the US Postal Service who never asked for 2020, a year of drastic cutbacks and defunding for them, a census, an election with millions more mail ballots and now this crazy holiday shipping season. Plus their exposure to Covid. I hope they will get a well deserved rest in the New Year.

I think this year has definitely made it more obvious just how essential some services are - like no one questions that healthcare is (and they’ve done an amazing job), but for example supermarket workers are people that might not have been thought of, but they were absolutely front line here - when we were in lockdown, only the supermarkets were open.
Good luck with the present! I’ve only one more thing to make, I’ve got time right 🧐

I'm finally back home after, what, 355 days? I'm isolating for 2 weeks but hey, atleast I can holler at my family from upstairs and wave at my parents when they arrive from work.
Speaking of work... It's keeping me and my team on our toes. This week I got so engrossed that my dinners have turned into midnight snacks (but I'm snacking on fruits at dinnertime). Le sigh.
Anyway, that's it for my short update. I'm gonna continue watching episode 2 of Run On (Im Si-wan is cute and his character is adorably weird, I'm kinda into it). A new beanie here 🙋♀️
My beanie level is 'candy' and I have no idea what that means. I tried to understand it by searching through this page but didn't come up with anything relatable. It would be great if one of you can explain it to me.
Thank you 💕

A Candy is a woman (usually) who is in unfortunate circumstances, usually poor, but is hardworking (often multiple part time jobs), plucky, cheerful, and often innocent. Candies will catch the attention of a wealthy powerful man (men?), and they will teach him the true meaning of love and life through their pluck and good-natured personality. So, basically a cinderella type story.

So... The typical kdrama heroine(But I have to admit 'not recently'. Nowadays kdrama girls are more sassy and badass). Thank you so much fellow beanie 🥰

Bingo!
It’s the fundamental level of kdrama, hence where you start as a Beanie.

My feeling is the term originated from a popular Japanese manga/anime "Candy Candy" aired back in the 1970's?
It's about an orphan baby girl left at an orphanage run by nuns in the Chicago area (?) some years before World War I. The story followed her growth into an optimistic, independent, hard working young woman. She was kind and forgiving. She met then became friends with boys from Chicago north shore (?) wealthy elites. The mysterious head of a wealthy family adopted her. But she had to deal with snooty snobbish family matriarch and some members. The blueblood guys all had a crush on her at one point or another.
She lost both of her "great" loves. One to death. The other one to a stage accident - He was an illegitimate son of a British(?) aristocrat and a stage actress. She inspired him to follow his heart and become an actor. An actress in his troupe saved his life but lost her legs. Candy let him go saying he should be with her.
She eventually became a nurse helping WWI injured soldiers.
I think at the end of the manga, she got together with the mysterious head of the household who was an older cousin of her first love and kind of resembled him. He was friends with her in his assumed commoner world-traveling humanitarian identity.

By the way, she was really a simple orphan. No other birth secret identity.

Wow, I had never heard that! I thought it just went back to the Korean pop song “Candy”. I’m even from Chicago, it’s true that the rich boys are on the North side 😂

My guess is the manga used Chicago equivalent of the Rockfellers in Wilmette area.

Is it possible that someone is actually thinking of renaming Lake Shore Drive? I just heard that and it’s very hard to believe.

@bbstl This is what Chicago Tribune editorial said.
https://www.chicagotribune.com/opinion/editorials/ct-editorial-lake-shore-drive-readers-reaction-20201216-nypzgtwv6fdxnkhueg2dh2ug6y-story.html
I think renaming something long-established and iconic is a bad idea. It creates confusion and causes problems for archival research. Besides, the proposed name doesn't exactly roll of the tongue.

Wow, that’s quite a convoluted plan (like, OuterDrive only for part of it). At first I thought it would make as much sense as renaming the Brooklyn Bridge but now that I read it’s for DuSable it makes more sense to me. I will watch with interest! Thanks!

I have only three work days left this year and then I'm on vacation! Yay! I work in the hard-hit aerospace industry and layoffs and shortened work weeks have me dividing my time between two of my boss's companies four days a week. Unfortunately while most of the others have less work to do because of orders dropping in half, my load as Quality Administrator does not lessen. So it seems I should be less tired, working fewer days, but in reality I am trying to cram so much in that shorter amount of time that I am exhausted. I'm really looking forward to my time off. I'm not seeing light at the end of the tunnel yet because if Bill Gates and his ilk have their way, we'll be kept in lockdown until 2022 until everybody in the world is vaccinated. That's what he said anyhow. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

After a three year hiatus I finally got to finish the series 'Tomorrow With You', which is appropriate considering the number of time jumps in the show. It jumped from 2017 to to 2019, then to 2022(!) inadvertently skipping over the pandemic year in the process. Perhaps they really were time travelers and knew to skip over this year entirely.

You can't imagine the ridiculous things I hear everyday at work. A patient came in this week saying they didn't believe in hand sanitizer. What do you mean you don't believe in it? It's hand sanitizer. It exists. I'm holding it in my hands. What is it? A value? A moral? No, it's like saying you don't believe in computers or any other inanimate object. But I'd get fired if I said everything that comes to my mind. So it's just gotten to a point where I say nothing, internally roll my eyes, squirt their hands, and carry on. So, yes, we're a year into the world with Covid and people in my side of the world still can't get over hand sanitizer because this threatens their rights somehow. Geez.

I don’t know when it became a thing for people to argue about/not “believe in” objects and facts. Is there just a weird misunderstanding about what objects and facts are, by definition?! I really admire you for keeping your thoughts in your head because my filter would have been worn down by now.

Ahaha lol you can not imagine the struggle. I honestly want to kimchi slap these people sometimes. Most of these people, I feel, do it on purpose to try to start an "argument" but I repeat myself and hold my ground in the calmest way possible. I think that makes them angrier though because it's not what they're expecting. Staying collected is the best way to get to them.

Hooray I’m on holiday till next year! I am looking forward to relaxing after tomorrow when I have four events to go to 😔 who planned that?!
It’s been a pretty unpleasant few weeks in our household with broken limbs and horrifying dentist visits and restructures at work....so I’m looking forward to a bit of a break and hanging out with the family.
More pleasant has been LSG releasing a whole lot of live versions of his new songs - I basically live on YouTube at the moment, I guess you never really grow out of being a fangirl 😅 (https://youtu.be/pCIrvxluyc0 .....just one of many)

Hello Beanies! Happy Friday! I hope you're all well and looking forward to the end of 2020 as much as I am. (I realize Jan 1, 2021 is as arbitrary a day as any other, but hope springs eternal and all that).
I'm very late to this, but I'll probably do some holiday-specific baking today. Anyone have any cookie recipes to share?
I just started watching Run On and kind of love it so far. I'm a big fan of Im Siwan, and especially his work in Misaeng, so I got a laugh out of the fact that my Beanie level right now is "Jang Geu-Rae."

Morning, beans!
The most exciting thing that happened to me this week (other than the crazy @pickleddragon bean count I had when I logged on this morning - sparkly tracksuit incoming!) was that Fangirlverdict posted my long love letter to the School Nurse Files.
I'm so excited by this and if you haven't already you should go and have a read and let me know what you think of the show and whether you agree or not.

Spent last week mildly sick, at home, with my mildly sick kids. Being back at work today was an awesome taste of freedom, even if work itself was a killer. Going into Christmas week, I feel work will be like giving birth; Breathe and push through.
However, the week wasn't a complete waste. Finally finished FFX for the third time and began FFVII (this time on switch) for the nth time. A real shout-out the the Nintendo Switch, the parent-gamer's wet dream. A pause, just a button away, anytime, anyhow.
I'm not sure I like RUN ON quite yet, but then Im Shi-wan smiled in ep 2 and now I just have to follow through, no matter what.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!
In order to start a career well, one has to start off with a blunder of the magnitude that will make sure people can tease you until you retire. Facepalm and laugh along with me as I share that crowning moment of my career.😂
My boss has been showing me around inside all our software programs and assigned some cases for me to solve to put all that formation theory into practice. I had to consult the cases that I could find inside my personal task basket on our main software, but I had to solve them on paper because I am not qualified yet to use the software without supervision. So I opened case after case in my basket and wrote down my case solving strategies to present to my boss for correction this morning.
While working on them this week I realized pretty quickly that my boss had given me more than double of the amount of cases she had originally decided on and that they were also a lot harder to solve than what we agreed on. Despite finding it strange I tried my best, but even after working overtime I had to give up and admit to my boss this morning that it was impossible to finish everything. Her confused reaction and some investigating quickly confirmed everything.
It turns out that instead of selecting cases from my personal basket I had been selecting cases from the wrong basket. You know, the huge never-ending one that contains all the yet unassigned and unsolved cases in the country... 🤦♀️ Selecting one of those cases means you assign yourself to solving it, without knowing what kind of case you will get. In summary, I got my share of practice this week by solving every available case in the country except the few I was explicitly told to solve.😆 Luckily my boss could fix the situation with a few mouse clicks, after laughing uncontrollably at my blunder first for 5 minutes straight.🤣 At least it broke the ice?😅

Sounds to me like you deserve a raise already, no?🤷🏻♀️ Since no harm was done, apart from having to learn to distinguish between your own basket vs the unsolved cases basket, you did more than your share of work, stepped up to a challenge that was beyond your current level, and probably saved other people some time, too!😀 Plus, you even made your boss laugh! It’s a win!👍
