Ji-soo becomes Kim So-hyun’s general in new teaser for River Where the Moon Rises

With the premiere just weeks away, a new video teaser has been released for KBS sageuk River Where the Moon Rises. Although the teaser’s focus is on Ji-soo (When I Was the Most Beautiful) , it also features his co-star Kim So-hyun (Tale of Nokdu) as well as a brief appearance by Kang Haneul (When the Camellia Blooms).

The drama is based on an old Korean folktale with Kim So-hyun playing the beloved character of Princess Pyeonggang. In her fight to restore Goguryeo’s power and claim the throne, she enlists the help of the simple-minded On Dal, played by Ji-soo, who swears his allegiance to her in the name of love.

As seen in the new teaser, though, there is much more to On Dal that he keeps hidden behind his village idiot appearance.

The video starts with Ji-soo calling out, “Father” when he sees a weary Kang Haneul standing atop the cliffside. In voice-over, Kang instructs his son, “Dal, I beseech you, become an ordinary, common man. No, become a fool and survive.” In a sequence of shots, we see Ji-soo following his father’s advice. Despite being the son of a general, he wears common clothes and tries to live a simple life. But we get glimpses of his conflicting feelings; he’s further shaken when he meets Kim So-hyun and starts to fall in love.

As the sequence of scenes continue, we see Ji-soo training for battle and his relationship with Kim So-hyun grows. Kim tells him, “They say each person is destined to their own fate.” Ji-soo professes to her in response, “My fate is you. One day, you and I will become husband and wife. There will come a time when you come to me.” The teaser comes to a close as it cuts to the palace where Kim So-hyun stands with a group of officials. And she’s surprised to be greeted by a cleaned-up Ji-soo dressed in fine robes.

Written by Han Ji-hoon (9.9 Billion Won Woman) and directed by PD Yoon Sang-ho (Wind and Cloud and Rain), River Where the Moon Rises premieres February 15 and will broadcast Mondays and Tuesdays on KBS.

Me too. It has a lot of potential and it's great to see a Goguryeo drama. The costumes and accessories are beautiful and very different from Joseon.

I'll be with you two as we are the trio. But I can't guarantee it's a trio until the end. I surrender quickly if it's not my cup of tea. 🥺

That is not good mugy. You'd better sleep at the appropriate time. I'm a very late night person too, but I try to change.

There are different kinds of suffering. I hope to suffer because of the pathos of the characters and not sloppy writing. 😅

While I love the actors, like most of the commenters here -- I feel this will be a tragic love story. Sure it will get great ratings, maybe have a great story and great acting. But I've always been a sucker for a happy ending, too bad these types of dramas almost always end with one or both of the main lead's deaths.

Well if they follow the tale, it will have a happy ending. Me neither like tragic histories, that is why I look For about this Legend.

I've worried about this too. Goguryeo always feel more bloody too. I may try to hold out until the drama ends and watch it in one go. But Kim So-hyun and Ji-soo also look so cute together. Decisions. Decisions.

I was not expecting to see both Kim so-hyun and Ji-soo in royal attire then I remembered they're actually a married couple so it makes sense. It's interesting how Kim so-hyun has gotten married in almost all of her historical dramas. The character teasers are great and I loved the smirk Ji-soo gave at the end. It'll be fun watching them take down their enemies together.

I find it interesting:
1. RL ages of three of the cast: Kim So-hyun is 21, Ji Soo is 27 and Kang Ha-neul is 30. I know KHN is in a supporting role as JS’s father but from the pics and clips I have seen so far it looks like he will believably be playing a part probably 20 years older. Also from the pics and clips I have seen so far KSH and JS looks much closer in age than in rl. All this is good. Matter of fact KSH and JS look great together which leads me to definitely want to watch the three episodes PAGE TURNER (2016) before RIVER begins;
2. A lot of beanies I think are taking this drama to heart maybe even some non sageuk fans. A non-Joseon historical drama may bring in new fans to the sageuk genre. KSH and JS maybe for different reasons seem to bring out a lot of positive reactions from fans wanting the best for them. At least that is how I see it. That is so much better than the negativity we see so often; and
3. Lol. Some fans seem concerned about the ending before River has even started. I think River will be great. I hope it is recapped and we all have a great run with it and maybe learn a few things. With all the sageuks I have watched my experience is that I usually learn some Korean history that I never knew before.
