happy friday beanies!

drama updates:
started run on with a friend yesterday (ACSDGHJFKL gotta calm down) but ANYWAY, love the vibes of the show SO MUCH, and i’ll def continue it (hopefully with my friend OKAY IM GOING TO SHUT UP) probably gonna watch ITR eps this weekend, i’m in love with nana, that’s it.

and for r88…
watching ep 17 today, and i’m debating when to watch ep 18, because i know that i’ll be super sad for the rest of the day— no matter how many times i watch that episode, i’ll cry, and cry, and cry. it’s looking like saturday night right now, and i just— damn it, i don’t want to watch it because of how sad it makes me, but i have to do it for junghwan T_T

my friend’s also started r88 and is team JH, i’m trying to get her jump ship before she gets her heart broken AHJSK

i am truly so sad that this rewatch is coming to an end. it always feels the same after i finish it, i know i can rewatch again, but i just love it so much. i remember the first time i finished r88, i was afraid that my love for it would fade, that it would just be a phase or something. it’s been about a year since i watched it, but i know in my heart that there’s something about it i’ll cherish for a very, very, long time.

life updates:
getting back to school has been EVENTFUL, but nothing compared to what’s happening in the US. class was going on when a student announced to us what was happening in DC, and right before it ended, we were informed that those crazed supporters had entered the capitol. the rest of the day was really scary and just plain… disheartening i guess.

i mention often on the OTs that when there’s a drama i feel super strongly about, i have no words for it. that’s just a reaction i have to when i feel really strongly or passionate about something?? so the whole wednesday and thursday morning was just… utterly tiring, and quite depressing. the somewhat decent part was that school teachers kinda checked in with us to see how we were feeling, but they’re not allowed to speak about politics (bc blah blah blah may upset opinions and could result in them getting fired.)

which… SUCKS, because this isn’t even political, it’s about RACISM. no disrespect to my teachers, disrespect to the school administration, and the government. it really just sucks that your teachers can’t say, “this is racism, and it’s not okay” because i feel like my school doesn’t even care about me as a POC then. where i live is supposed to be super progressive too, i don’t even want to imagine what it would be like if i lived somewhere that wasn’t… sigh

i’ve run out of my words for now, so all i want to say is to any beanies near the dc area, stay safe. to those that are worried for the future, i am too. i don’t know if i can really say everything will be okay, but nevertheless, i do wish you guys hope for the future. for anything personal you’re going through, i hope that things will get easier < 3

love and hwaiting,
shachi

Wednesday afternoon a notification popped up saying the Capitol was in lockdown due to protest. I thought, "So? No big deal." BLM and armed anti COVID restriction protests have led to one form of lockdown or another in 2020.

The evening news showed that this was much more serious in one sense, but also not as serious in terms of property damage and looting.

I took comfort in the fact that vast majority of the US was business as usual. Not as some people had always claimed that there would be a revolution in the streets.

It does appear that certain Trump enablers needed this to stop and reflect what they've done. Too bad it seems like adverse long-term consequences for them will be unlikely.

Hey shachi, just checking back in I hope college applications are wrapping up and you're feeling good about everything! Now, the waiting game begins, but use this time to do things that make you happy (although that might be a bit difficult given the political climate right now). For me, I hunkered down and watched as many K-dramas as I could ^^. Before I knew it all my application decisions were opened and I was on my way. Love and hwaiting to you too!

Happy friday, Beanies ❤️

It turns out my brother has become a big Running Man fan while I was away and we've been watching his suggested episodes while doing menial tasks at home. We also watched the Hwarang special of 2D1N and ep7 of Mr. Queen. I don't think I've laughed this much in a long while and it feels so good.

My Youtube suggestions included clips of Chung-myung's story in Hotel Del Luna, and boy, am I late to the Lee Do-hyun train! The boy is so gorgeous with expressive eyes and a voice that hits all the right spots. Then bam, I realized that he played young Joon-ho in Prison Playbook! No wonder Je-hee had a crush haha. Too bad Sweet Home is not my cup of tea, though 18 Again is already on my list.

Anyway, gotta catch up on the latest episodes of Run On that I've been saving for the weekend. I'm so excited!

Lee Do-hyun was so amazing in 18 Again! I loved the whole drama, it felt like Disney meets Kdrama in a good way (I'm normally not a Disneyland fan). And I would still say that Lee Do-hyun was the best part of 18 Again.

Christmas holidays this year were... Decided against traveling to see my family because: covid, and here we stayed, with covid restrictions and pissing rain for 15 straight days. Holiday without being able to do pretty much anything outside after the year we've had was just a bit much. Fortunately, the sun came out some days ago! The air is crispy cold and you can see the snow on the hills. Went hiking in the nearest hill with the kids and all the drudgery was forgotten. Love the way you can tell seasons apart here, and they're all so pretty! (when it's not raining, I mean, which kind of happens a lot, but, hey, it's what makes this place so green).
So, Beanies, hope 2021 treats all of us nicely, let's all have a pretty January!

Real life always is fun - I was full on for Chaos in 2020 and i'm gonna enjoy 2021's chaos too. chaos is always fun till it move into your direction. Swimming with a tide is secure, but real fun starts when you collide with tide.
When its one vs. many, when you are pushed into a corner, when there is no path to escape, that's when real fun of life starts.
And its dangerous for me - as i have start to enjoy it.

Its not like similar to the feeling of Kenpachi of blech but it does have a few traits that can be parallel.

As for newcomers aka juveniles they really need to learn something from Putin or Xi or even modi - how to consolidate our position. These guys actions can't be accepted at any human level but from marketing perspective these guys are top quality. They know what they are doing and what benefits them. Their politics is very clear and so is clear their hunger. You can criticise them over 100s of things but you have to acknowledge these guys know how to swing a bat and how to be a winner. Feelings of remorse are for not meant for these type of human beings. Funny enough, these same qualities are in almost every other human being taking breath in this world, its just takes a facemask to hide the real nature.

"These guys actions can't be accepted at any human level but from marketing perspective these guys are top quality."

Marketing IS a human activity. In contrast to, say, fighting or certain forms of play, marketing appears to be unique to the human species. If the actions of "those guys" are unacceptable at "any human level", they shouldn't be acceptable - let alone praiseworthy - in marketing either. Even if humans are essentially selfish and amoral (an idea that is neither unusual nor original), why should marketers in particular be exempt from ethics and remorse? What allows a marketer to stand outside “any human level”? In fact, if the idea that humans are selfish and amoral should simply be accepted and capitalised on, then why bother to bring up “human levels” at all?

For years i didn't used no. 7 - except 2020 top list.
reason was very simple but a foolish one.
Number 7 is associated with this and that idiocy and to counter that i actively avoided the number. so for most occasions and 8 was actually a 7.
So a rating of 7 isn't actually 6 by any means.
And i do have criteria set for ratings @screentime and i never use duality of rating. I do include entertainment aka fun aka enjoyment while making the rating part but i don't give it as much weightage as much i give to other factors.
There are many media i enjoyed - highly enjoyed and yet ranking and rating them was done objectively.

I had talked about it in 2019 too - only 2 media across 1000s that got 5 out of 5 or 10 out of 10 or 100% score from me.
No one except intelligence agencies and google know about it.

Nothing can be perfect in this world then how come someone give a fictional media a perfect score. I find it completely ridiculous. That's why i use grading system for things i really like and there i reduce their score
and use rating system for public use and for the public.
Getting confused leads to indecisive approach which means you are already 50% out of the game. That's why i define each and every things, categorise them so i can be clear at all times and take immediate actions. Human history has taught me this valuable lesson and i've implement it well in stock market as well as fictional online profiles.

Happy Friday everyone.
Thanks to everyone responding to my last OT post. I was totally clueless about managing my finances and I learnt a lot from that ❤️
I was wondering what do you guys watch on Fridays?
With the Wed-Thu, Sat-Sun drama timings and Netflix blessing us with subbed episodes the same day, I hardly have anything to watch on Fridays.

.....But, I don't. Stayed up way too late Wednesday/Thursday, basking in the glow that is Im Shi-wan. 😚
Mostly, I just go to bed embarrassingly early on Fridays. Started a re-watch of Sound of Music earlier in the week, though, so maybe that if my husband's tired but not the kids (he hates musicals). It was magical how quickly they fell asleep last time....

So I'm not new to k dramas and have been in the scene since 2012 but my drama watching was very sporadic. I used to watch a few dramas take a break of 2 3 years and rinse repeat. Since the past year my drama watching was going almost without a break and even started live watching dramas like IONTBO and start up. I thought in some ways it was easy than binging coz I filled the rest of the week with other dramas. I liked those 2 dramas but was never obsessive over them other than checking DB for recaps. Maybe live watching was not for me as I was not liking the dramas as much as I should.
And then came Run On. I became obsessed. I stopped watching all the new dramas on my long watchlist. My week now revolves around the drama. Friday reading comments on fan walls saturday sunday reading WWW monday tuesday rewatching the previous weeks episodes wednesday and thursday eagerly waiting for the episodes. I've fallen in love with this drama. I hope that this continues and drama not dash my expectations. Oh drama what have you done to me!!
P. S : my level was upgraded to jang gu rae last week. This is fate...:-P

Hi beanies, I’m in and out today, on the run unexpectedly with a change in schedule. But I had to say that I love Lovestruck in the City. It’s so refreshing, got a hippie tone to it, and Jae-Won and Eun-o (aka Sun-a) oils be a real fling-go-haywire couple (or not). Mixed signals. Male/female interpretations on different levels. Of course massive relationship confusion. It is reminiscent of The Producers with IU which was amazing. Hope you all have a great weekend, dark clouds will pass! ❤️Owl

Being an Asian action star is a young man's game. A certain level of athletic proficiency is expected (as opposed to American action stars who just have to bulk up and throw a convincing looking punch). Wookie doesn't seem to have it in him to want to train-up for those 'flying kick'-style action roles anymore.

Happy Friday, Beanies! Finally, the Christmas break is coming to an end and things will finally return to normal by Monday. So looking forward to this, as are my kids. Well, as normal a concept as permitted by covid. But all things come to an end, this too shall pass.

I felt this week's episodes of Run On was a tad more boring and uneventful than earlier episodes but next week's promo is looking really exciting. Mayhaps we'll have another drunken, or even sober, kiss?
I really like how every character seem to grow their own links to each other instead of just being someone's significant other or best friend. It gives them greater depth and brings so much more perspective to the show. My entire week basically consists of longing for Run On.

Also, binged Bridgerton over the course of two days and came to several conclusions. I may not be knowledgable enough to know where the clothing's gone wrong, but I don't even need to. It's all Moulin Rouge meets Harlequin in synthetic fabric. Second, I think even my worst harlequin books have male leads with greater emotional range. The Duke was a terribly written character. Third, the show was stolen completely by lady Bridgerton and the Queen but not to the point I'll watch a second season.

I cannot remember the k-drama from a few years ago about an obsessive fan stalking a celebrity. I only have cursory knowledge of that part of pop culture but a week after the HB/SYJ news I can conclude that they are nearly insane.

The shipping culture is strange to begin with but not hard to fathom. They believe they have a property interest in them as a couple. They act like they were the matchmakers and biggest supporters "who brought them together." They found great pleasure and pride when the news broke. They continue to give gifts, applauds and posts on SNS. Like the couple's friends, endorsers and colleagues, they are cheering them on but pushing themselves to the front of the line.

But after 7 days, they want more. Even though SYJ 1-1-21 post (where she acknowledges fan interest in them) showed her still in the early stages of dating (due to busy 2020 schedules), fans want MORE details. They have spent more time investigating, speculating and assuming for the past two years they want their work "rewarded" with daily updates to immediate baby news like they are close friends of the couple.

No wonder Korean celebrity public dating is a toxic environment. A certain segment of the public is trying to direct their fairy tale story on to real people. They are addicted to any scrap of information or rumor. They have greater expectations at this moment than the actual couple. Strange.

The 2018 IU pop song 'Bbi Bbi' was a diss track directed at obsessive fans and stalkers. Yellow card (a soccer penalty), I'm giving you a warning. Don't cross the line. You're stupid and uncultured (yes, she actually used those words). It appears to be a popular song with other idols, the girl group ITZY recently did a cover of it.

When the major Korean networks dropped their weekly entertainment news shows that I liked, I tend to search for news on media sites and YT but I find more and more links are to fan sites and forums which have no actual news content. I find it weird that the entertainment news has been taken over by the asylum inmates.

I don't really care about the private lives of actors whose work I've enjoyed, but I've been thinking about this a bit since that news broke. First, I think it's weird that k celebs can't just date like normal people. Second, I think it's even weirder that k celebs are essentially willing to pay off services like Dispatch until they deem it necessary/appropriate for the "scandal" to break. It all feels sort of manufactured, even when the relationship itself is real. In this context, it's hard for me to point fingers specifically at the hardcore shipping fans. They seem to be an integral part of this sort of PR machine? Still, I hope the really hardcore fans back off just a tiny bit and can just let these people live!

On another note, I think it's a bit strange that so many fans ship the actors from a particular drama instead of the characters they play. Shipping the characters seems healthier, and would probably lead to fanworks that are less intrusive viz. the actors themselves?

I have done some limited research on this to try to find a logical explanation. It appears k-fans are very "invested" in their stars; spending thousands of dollars/year on promotions, gifts, on-line polls, endorsed products, etc. The level of star fandom does attract producers and advertisers. Agencies cultivate clean, nice, innocent and SINGLE images of their stars because fan fantasy and advertiser standards demand it. Many stars make more money from endorsements than entertainment projects. Therefore, there is a big profit motivation to maintain one's public reputation.

The term "mediaplay" is used to generate PR from the chemistry between actors. During promotions, the leads often are playful, funny and flirty which causes the rumors of a real relationship. This drives media gossip stories and SNS buzz. Korea's "couple culture" really fuels this because most people are obsessed about talking about other couples. Ironically, HB was accused of mediaplay during his prior two public relationships because he was in an alleged career slump. Mediaplay also covers the give and take between publishers and agencies over stories, releases, exclusives, etc.

Agencies and advertisers do have contract clauses against public dating as it is seen as tarnishing their brand image. There is also a backlash from k-fans when their stars "lie" to them about dating denials. They find it a kind of betrayal of their parasocial relationship. Just like any broken relationship, there can be fan anger, resentment and hate against the star. In many cases, this is bad for business.

Then I read that even if k-fans "accept" their star's partner in a dating relationship, if they break up they will go after both of them with negative comments: for example, the star for making a bad choice and the partner for not trying hard enough to sustain a fantasy ending.

The idea of character idolization is well known but now has taken a back seat because stars now interact with their fans more directly through IG, Twitter and You Tube channels. The line between a k-fan and a star has been crossed because the fan can directly interact (liking posts) with their star (who may actually respond.) A faux BBF dynamic can be created which causes fans to ask for more information, to be part of the star's life (just as do with their regular friends on social media). This drives more scrutiny and criticism of the star's relationship (which probably causes star stress because they are social media and their cafe sites, too.)

Required fields are marked *

Thanks! That's pretty instructive.

Specifically with reference to HB and SYJ, it strikes me that they're both old enough and well-established enough that fan backlash could not have been much of a concern for their agencies? I can't really imagine a scenario where two A-listers dating would be damaging to either of their careers (as long as the relationship lasts, I guess).

On the other hand, I wonder how fans will react when the actors ultimately work with other co-stars and whether these overly invested fans will simply not tune in to the new work?

1

Required fields are marked *

Well, your last point is interesting because the current couple is now being compared to the Song-Song couple, who also made numerous denials before admitting their relationship and getting married.

When it seemed that the couple lacked chemistry, there were rumors of an affair with a co-star which was denied when the divorce was filed for irreconcilable differences after only 20 months of marriage.

Then again, fans may constantly compare their old relationships with current one gossip to make uninformed judgments on the status of the relationship.

As for the Song-Song careers, they both had work after the divorce. She still maintained her long list of endorsements, and he did his film projects (but they did not work out as well as expected.)

This is both informative, but must also be terrifying to a celeb. How do any of them handle the enormous pressure machine that is a segment of their fandoms?!

I guess other expected Dispatch dating story that did not get printed has been revealed by a pre-publication denial.
Gugudan member Sejeong had to explain to concerned fans on her Instagram Live that she and Busted! co-star EXO’s Sehun are just friends.

“This was something I wasn’t sure whether I should talk about or not. My fans don’t have to worry. I admit that we get along well on the filming set and we have good chemistry on the show, but I’ve never contacted [Sehun] outside of the set. Any contact we’ve had has been through ‘Busted!’ filmings. There is nothing going on whatsoever, so please don’t worry.”

She decided to address it because people would harass her family about it.

"I didn’t think I would be getting so many DMs about this. People even leave comments about it on my parents’ SNS accounts. I was worried about bringing it up at all, but please do not worry, and I would like it if you would please stop leaving bad comments.”

An Asian entertainment blogger sums it up well:

"Like people caring about your relationship status so much that they badger you into addressing it is weird enough, but that happening to family is another level. Then yet another level is having to specifically clarify how a work friendship works and that they do not contact each other outside of work.

"So either they are dating and have to hide it because fans are insane, they are actual friends and they have to lie about the fact that they are close outside of work cause fans are insane, or they actually specifically get along well at work but do not contact each other due to fear that fans will find out because fans are insane. Speaking of relationships, the parasocial ones fans are in with their faves ruin a lot of shit."

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

We have earned it after this week.😩Apparently I missed a coup on the capital and a Dramabeans blackout, and I have not even been gone for a week! Many virtual hugs to Beanies who feel mentally affected, American or not.❤️

This week has not been the best for me either. Grandma 1 tested positive and my mother had a short contact with her earlier this week. The tracing center fortunately deems it a low risk contact, but we are of course extra careful and wary now whenever we feel even slightly off or need to go outside, no matter how rarely that happens.

Grandma 2 has an abnormal high heart rate and should go to the hospital for examinations and possible treatment, but she refuses to deteriorate and die in a hospital. For that reason she wants to start with palliative care at home and spend the remaining days of her life there. She has been a ticking time bomb for decades and still managed to live a long life, so she accepts what her body is telling her and the family respects and supports that decision. Euthanasia is legal here, but of course the medical world has to consent as well.

Grandma 2 has been far from the best grandmother, and we barely spoke to her and most of the relatives on her side of the family. Still, it feels weird to feel sad and yet not sad enough about the fact that she might leave us this year. When it rains it pours, obviously. My phone is almost dead at the ancient age of 3 and other equipment broke down too. I hope to have new ones by next week, but with my current job rhythm and covid measures I have no idea when I will go buy them.

There is a slight light at the end of the tunnel, though. I had my first internship evaluation of sorts this week and that cleared up a lot of the fog at work. I spend more than half of my weeks in formation with little time for practice on the job as a result. According to the internship rulebook the formations are spread out over the year and need to be balanced well with work practice, so I began to question my time management and working pace. It turns out that the pandemic forced them to move up most of the formation deadlines to the first half or even quarter of the internship, but they neglected to mention that it also lowered their expectations on the practical part. I feel a bit less guilty about all the unfinished work now.🤦‍♀️

Even better, I smartly saved up my study leave days for January, so I scheduled them all on work practice days whenever I am not in formation. I hope it will give me some extra sleep, breathing room, and downtime on evenings and weekends. We also concluded that one big rotten chapter I still do not get. I have a month to teach myself to understand it, but for now I am saving my energy on all the other chapters that are smaller and not as hard to deal with.🙏

Let us have better weeks from now on! 💪

So I haven't propped this much, but at the end of last year the Dramas Over Flowers mob asked me to be on their Forest of Secrets 2/Stranger 2 deep dive podcast and of course I agreed. Mind you we recorded at midnight after I'd been up since 4:30 so I barely remember recording it at all.

But one of the things we discussed near the end was the references to Crime and Punishment in FoS and how the concept of a special morality for certain people was embodied in some of its characters. Crime and Punishment canvasses a particular moral position that there is no good and evil, there is simply those that act and those that don't. And that those who have the courage to act - men like Napolean (only men, of course, it is Russian literature) - are therefore immune from prosecution or judgement. This is to say that Napolean's acts aren't forgiven because they're right, they're forgiven because he's Napolean.

More importantly, the main crimes committed in C&P (and in Forest of Secrets 2) were committed by men who wanted to believe that they were Napolean, somehow above normal questions of morality and above also normal consequences of their actions. In both texts they were wrong because a person's actions are always judged and judge-able no matter who they are or how above normal humanity they think they are.

And so those who think that somehow the evil deeds of venal men are merely fascinating anthropological studies that they can study from afar as if they are the crimes of Napolean, well, they are just as sociopathic and as compromised as those who do them believing they are above the law. The deeds of men like Trump are not to be seen from afar as fascinating but to be decried as morally bankrupt and downright criminal.

This is a coup. Not a football game. Concentrating on the score is to miss the point of the game. And how you swing a bat does not matter. Who you swing that bat at is.

Even Napolean saw justice for his crimes in the end.

Just started re-watching Because This Is My/Our First Life which features an open display of all the negative manifestations of patriarchy as it affects family relationships and marriage. What we're enduring here in the US has the same source. Throughout history, in every culture, weak men fall in love with strong alpha males. I've been trying for years to understand the Trumpies because I have several in my family. Its as painful as watching someone you love and care about become a true believer in a cult.

So. 2021.
I was pulled over by the cops and it was terrifying.
Someone stole 1k from my bank account. Which I should be able to get back just not right away.
1 of my friends has a premie baby with serious health issues that she just brought home from the hospital. I signed up for the meal train before learning about the 1k and that Im overdrawn on my accounts. My dad says he can lend me the money to buy dinner for my friends since Im overdrawn. He doesnt remember how banks work so I have to drive down there and back to get the money into my accou t to put it in HER account before the banks close. My dad decides now--at this time sensitive moment--is the time to figure it out so I pull over to give him my bank info and over an hour later he calls me back. Hes on the phone chatting with his brother. Its now too late for me to make it to ky and back and get dinner for my friends.
Another friends mom died and she had no insurance so not only can she not have a funeral for her mom she cant even mourn because she has to figure out how to pay for this. Shes set up a gofundme that ai cant contribute to because someone stole 1k from me.
And the sitting us president tried to overthrow the government.
Didnt we collectively agree 2021 was going to be better? Because its not.
To make this drama related: playful kiss is no iswak but its better than people (including me) give it credit for. To make this db specific egads yelled at me in my dream last night. But shes already apologized for her dreamself being a meanie.
Im going to eat cake and cry a little bit.

Hugs all around to you and your friends, and have all the cake you want. I'm really feeling for your friend who lost her mom because I'm still dealing with the non-emotional work that comes with losing a family member, and it's been over an year.

I will be having a strongly worded conversation with dream-egads, so this should never happen again.

Cake is good. 2021 needs to reflect on its actions and be better.

😢 This is all terrible (except for the drama and apology). I knew this year wouldn't start to turn around until at least June, even though I'm an eternal optimist.

Your year is off to a crummy start (as is our country's year). Wishing you a much better rest of the year.

Hello Beanies! Happy Friday, and I hope you're all well.

It has been a strange, strange week so far. I don't want to go into too much detail, but I think it's safe to say that this latest season of America has definitely jumped the shark.

I just finished watching Bridgerton, and I hope I'm not alone in thinking it was kind of a train wreck? I so love all those Regency period dramas, but this one just left me disappointed. Sigh.

I was listening on a podcast where the host mentioned watching Bridgerton. Her reaction was roughly 'OMG. I'm watching a K-drama!' or words to that effect.

LOL I read a review of Bridgerton in (probably) the NYT and about half the comments were complaints and about another third all recommended watching kdrama instead. One poor benighted soul had to ask what kdrama was.

LOL. More than k-drama, it felt like really bad Jane Austen fanfiction (written by someone clearly disappointed by the lack of sex and nudity in Pride & Prejudice, I think).

I was today years old when I realized Bridgerton is actually based on a book series, which makes me even a bit more disappointed, if that makes sense.

I haven’t watched it but I’ve read some of the books. They are....representative of that kind of romance novel at the time. A lot of people loved them but I was never sure why.

Oh hey Bridgerton! I enjoyed the 1st 5 episodes but then no 6 was kinda mehh so i haven’t seen the last two yet. I didn’t read the book so can’t really make any comparisons

I got the rundown on Mydramalist of how many dramas I watched in 2020. Ninety-six dramas. That's almost two a week. I'm not sure whether to be proud or ashamed of the amount of time spent drama-watching. Being on reduced hours at work certainly helped.

Highlights for me included discovering Yoon Shi Yoon in Your Honor, and his other doppelganger portrayal in Train. Becoming fascinated by the tortured antihero in Cruel City led me to look for the same actor in Falling for Innocence and Hospital Playlist. That led me to the other related dramas, Prison Playbook and Dr. Romantic, all of which I loved.

I braved through the first season of Age of Youth, but dropped the second season after one episode. Likewise I dropped It's Okay to Not be Okay after one episode, as well as Nobody Knows. The dramas I dropped aren't included in the above tally.

That also doesn't include all the non-Korean dramas I watched, including the entire 6 seasons of Downton Abbey (for the third time) while I was knitting.

@skidmoresy Shari,
Welcome to the Yoon Shi-yoon and Jung Kyung-ho band wagons. Both are favorites of mine.
Last year on recommendation from @wishfultoki I watched YSY’s FLOWER BOY NEXT DOOR (2013) (Viki-US). Everyone (YSY, Park Shin-hye, Kim Ji-hoon) are so young! It is a romantic dramedy and YSY is at his hyper best. It seems I needed something like this to pick up my spirits after the fiasco of an ending for DO DO.
GRAND PRINCE (2018) (Viki-US) was my first YSY drama so I was not prepared for YSY’s interpretation of his characters in episode 1 of YOUR HONOR. I was in shock however it turned out that both he and Director-nim knew what they were doing and it became a fine drama which could have been much better if it had not had the episodes cut. I thought he was terrific in TRAIN and can not understand its abysmal ratings but that is the way it is.
HEARTLESS CITY/CRUEL CITY (2013) (Viki-US) made me a fan for life of both JKH and Yoon Hyun-min.

Wohoo, it's a YSY fanclub party!

And let's not forget PSYCHOPATH DIARY, NOKDU FLOWER and THE BEST HIT. The first one is a comedy with a serial killer (yep), the second is a fantastic historical drama set in the waning years of Joseon, and in the third one he's a rock star who time travelled from 1995. His characters are always memorable for me.

NOKDU FLOWER isn't a light watch, maybe that's why. PSYCHOPATH DIARY has dark comedy, which is not everyone's cup of tea.

I loved the first half of the THE BEST HIT but then the relationship between characters got a bit weird. I still think it's a fun drama though.

1

That is an impressive total. I can’t ask MDL how many I watched this year because a high proportion were rewatches.....probably for the best I don’t know.

Fellow Beanies, I need help! I just binged watched Modern Farmer over the weekend, and I was wondering what happened to Park Min-Woo?! I read that he was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident in 2016. Maybe he left the industry after his accident and his military service.

My mister is an attractive and interesting and semi-realistic and entertaining and informative series that you never be repentant from its watching.
Instead you enjoy from its watching a lot!

A series on humans loneliness!
A series on matrimony treason and power greed and persons misfortunes!
A very semi-realistic and interesting series that attract and nail up its viewers in all of its episodes a lot too!
I personally love this series!
An interesting series on persons loneliness and misfortunes and metamorphosis in developed capitalistic society with eastern texture!
Please watch the mister series enthusiastically and rejoice from its watching a lot!

The mister series revolve on different multifarious matters including:
Matrimony treason and karma law and eastern norms and traditions and humans misfortunes and loneliness in eastern industrialized countries and class societies terms challenges and humans greed and so forth!
The series protagonists are an honorable educated civil engineer middle aged man and a bleak young girl from low ranking forlorn social strata.
The first is belonged to high ranking prosperous social strata and the second is belonged to low ranking miserable social strata.
Of course other stars with different characters have shined in this series too.
But if you pay deep attention most of them are experiencing different kinds of misfortunes in their lives and all of them are defeated social strata from different stances too. And all of them suffer from solitude and shelterless strata!
The my mister series show that the karma law (one of the Buddhism school main eternal infrastructures) performance on all of characters vividly too.
Although the mentioned karma laws aren’t fairly in comprehensive field from my standpoint too.
Becuse it delete some of society oppressive imposed class and historical,…factors and it perform karma law with static stance.
In other words a kind of karma law that adapt with traditional and class societies norms.
Instead from my viewpoint karma law,…must have dynamic and historical,…approaches on mankind behaviors not static and non-historical ones!
I mean as traditional or middle ages or class,…societies organisms aren’t perfect paradigms, then we mustn’t focus on persons individual behaviors merely.
Becuse life in these societies aren’t normal and ideal and rather than moral relativity principle predominate on humans functions, you be sure!
In other words since these kinds of societies aren't justly and fairly then good and evil,… miss their actual meaning and then our judge on mankind behaviors will be very difficult and distorted!
So! We can not perform positive or negative karma laws on creatures in these kinds of unsymmetrical class societies at all.
Instead from my standpoint as moral virtues are product of environments and external factors and historical determinism,… then we must humanize environments not focus on persons behaviors and functions merely!
In here...

Don’t worry I'm a ghost is an attractive and informative and interesting film with my love madam park shin hye as its protagonist shine!
Its main theme revolves on karma law as world eternal one!
My love madam park shin hye main co-star is a postal parcels carries that his brother is a conscienceless thief that killed my love park shin hye with his knife while he burgled from madam park shin hye home.
as the thief brother that was madam park shin hye lover came along with his brother at park shin hye home, without he knew and wanted it, and he was park shin hye murder eyewitness by his brother then he was encountered continuous guilt complex next and he was a so sad illusionist and hallucinated psycho that saw madam park shin hye late character in his dream as a ghost every time and everywhere and he suffered a lot inwardly and finally he betrayed his criminal brother and he was entrusted bedlam!
As my love park shin hye double ganger (ghost) said her lover:
He mustn’t have accompanied with his naughty and criminal brother at all.
In any case this film main message revolves on karma law and bad and good guys separation necessity even they be each other siblings!
Don’t worry I'm a ghost is a heartrending informative and attractive and interesting series. Especially in this film my love park shin hye murder upseted me a lot spontaneously.
I recommend you that you watch it as soon as possible as well.
These kinds of films increase our tenderheartedness and conscience and humanity and purify our insides inwardly, I think!
