Drama viewership ratings for the week of Feb. 22-28, 2021
by SailorJumun
One week after the big premiere drops, and it looks like the shows are holding up nicely. At the beginning of the week, River made a quick ascent to double digits. Midweek, Sisyphus stayed strong around 6 percent, while Hello? It’s Me! struggled to hold onto its audience. Wednesday-Thursday dramas tend to fade in the background, especially if it’s a rom-com, but I’ll give Hello a few more weeks.
Naturally, our new weekend shows snatched all the high numbers. Penthouse and Vincenzo continued to rise, showing no sign of slowing down, and Beyond Evil made itself comfortable around 4 percent. Times is definitely the underdog here, but I’ve noticed that there’s always one weekend OCN show that just kind of lingers around 1 percent — I guess, right now, this is that show.

all of the shows with good ratings except orphans family. why? None of the fantasy is easy to digest. Rich is being rich aka literal porn. That's it, i can't say anything anymore for rich(Its blatant hatred now). If it were upto me i wouldn't have any violent show anywhere near JTBC. You create a brand and image matters. What if OCN starts to play teenage nonsense romances. Still Violence is giving good rating whereas hoobae is struggling.

I am enjoying Sisyphus quite a bit. Haven’t been able to stick it out with Vincenzo but might give it another try once it’s done airing.
I don’t see Any drama called rich above in the list, which one are you talking about? I know k entertainment has a lot of x or r rated movies over the years but never knew of a drama that was something that can be compared to porn. And now I am curious to find out what the drama did to brand it as such 🙂

I guess it is a metaphor, like how Jane Austen books are classics, but were once considered literature porn because it was pleasant to read, but doesn't enrich the mind, so it is like a mindless pleasure to read them.
Well, Penthouse 2 is the perfect mindless pleasure, and I certainly don't watch K-dramas to enrich the mind 😁

The funny thing, though, is that the OP also says that "none of the fantasy is easy to digest", so pleasure doesn't seem to come into it.
Austen's novels are anything but mindless.

Anything this user doesn't like is considered porn

It would be considering books were read for academics in that era.
No offense to Austen fans, just forget this as bad example 😁

@kai55 Sorry for harping on this, but I really recommend Austen's Northanger Abbey, whose heroine's imagination gets overheated as a result of reading too many mindlessly entertaining Gothic novels.

Northanger Abbey is such an under appreciated Austen. Honestly, this would make for an amazing kdrama adaptation.

Austin novels are ANYTHING but mindless. With no TV or radio they reflect the every-day minute of life in a country village. She was an extremely acute observer of human behaviour and her novels reflect the social mores and limitations of the period. Her characterisation is acid and accurate. I have my great-great grandmother's diaries for that age. She didn't write as well as JA but her descriptions of social gatherings are very similar. The best fictional characters are based on people you know, and I think JA's writing reflects that knowledge and observation. No they are NOT rich porn (whatever that is!). They are an accurate description of life in that century, and bearing in mind they are written by a young woman confined to living her life on a sofa in rural surroundings I think they are remarkable.

Exactly.
Still, we do get out of nowhere something worth pondering over from these fictional characters.
Fantasy as a genre.

Still confused by the rich/porn analogy. I've never had trouble telling the difference, but perhaps I'm missing something? "Rich is being rich aka LITERAL porn." Hmmmmm???

To be honest, if I recollect accurately, I never understood this user’s comments, none of them ever made sense to me. I see words and I read them but they never mean anything or I am just dump and don’t understand language. Most times I am kept scratching my head.

I wish someone would recap Beyond Evil. The recapper who used to do dark thrillers is no longer active. There's so much to discuss about this drama.

Beyond Evil is the only thing that captivates my interest.
I always love a story where I get twirled between the good and bad guys, kept in the dark til important moment where the truth get revealed.
Shin Hakyung is amazing here. A very seasoned actor that portrays a broken soul really well.
Yeo Jingoo never really catches my attention, probably because of his age, but this time I feel like a pedophile salivating over a 20 something yo kid.

I've grown to love LUCA with all my heart, but I've got to admit that it's not for everyone, and the first episode is as nutty as a bag of mixed nuts.
Minuses:
1. Very violent
2. Basic story is a patchwork of everything from Frankenstein to Korea's own The Witch Part 1: The Subversion
3. Can be bizarre to the point of camp
Pluses:
1. Excellent ensemble cast
2. Characters and some story elements are realised pretty compellingly, mainly via good acting and sharp dialogue.
3. It might look like the show is most tediously dominated by fight scenes, e.g. Lee Da-hee, Kim Rae-won and Kim Sung-oh constantly getting duffed up. But actually a lot has happened in the last 10 episodes, and much of it is not what I'd expected at all.

TVN must be happy. First Mr. Queen and now Vincenzo are hits. LUCA is also doing pretty well, staying above 5% its whole run. Now let's see how Mouse does.

i really wish Beyond Evil was being recapped. i am watching other shows as well, but Beyond Evil is the only one actively holding my interest. Shin Ha-Kyun and Yeo Jin-gu are phenomenal, the show deserves more attention.

I'm really enjoying Vincenzo. My Italian friend says the Italian dialogue is remarkably good and it's great to see a male lead in a decent suit, a genuine fit across the shoulders, without the trousers and sleeves being too short and able to lift his arms without the whole jacket bunching up. For a guy with such a boyish face he manages to generate a lot of power and menace, I think he's an excellent actor. And it's dotty enough to lighten up the dark side a little bit. I know most of the parts are "stock" parts but I think they're all doing a very good job and it's made me laugh a lot as well as having one genuinely very sad moment. It's nice to have a straight story without ghosts, people popping in and out of time warps and aliens. Just saying!

People here seem to underestimate penthouse 2. I seriously wish someone recap these series so that we can rant together how evil characters can be. Ugh!!!!
