Han Ye-ri to join Uhm Tae-gu and Yoo Jae-myung in OCN’s Hometown

Yoo Jae-myung, Han Ye-ri, Uhm Tae-gu

Recently, it was confirmed that Han Ye-ri (Minari, My Unfamiliar Family) has been cast in mystery thriller drama Hometown, alongside Yoo Jae-myung (Vincenzo) and Uhm Tae-gu (Rescue Me 2). The pursuit for a serial killer in 1999 begins to shed light on a terror incident that occurred ten years earlier.

Yoo Jae-myung plays a police detective who is on the hunt for a serial killer in the countryside in 1999. At the same time, Han Ye-ri’s character is looking for her missing niece. Han Ye-ri and Yoo Jae-myung’s paths collide because of Uhm Tae-gu, playing a terrorist serving a life sentence for his crimes.

The hidden backstory is that Yoo Jae-myung’s wife died ten years ago in the terrorist incident. Due to the guilt for not preventing her death, he’s lived like a ghost, until he’s assigned to a serial murder case that has ties to the terrorist who killed his wife.

The reasoning for Uhm Tae-gu’s crime are unknown. One day in 1989, when he came back from his schooling in Japan, he suddenly unleashed toxic sarin gas at a train station, resulting in the indiscriminate deaths of many. Promptly thereafter, he turned himself in and was given a life sentence.

Han Ye-ri plays the younger sister of Uhm Tae-gu, and the stigma of being related to a terrorist nearly ruined her. Ironically, it was her terrorist brother’s daughter, her niece, that helped her regain her will to live. When she goes missing, Han Ye-ri’s life falls into despair once more.

Saturday-Sunday OCN original series Hometown, directed by Park Hyun-seok (Forest of Secrets 2) and written by Joo Jin, will begin airing in the second half of this year.

I love the 3 actors and the plot looks interesting!

There was a post in Instagram showing the difference Kdrama posters between 2020 and 2021, 2020 ones being colorful and 2021 very dark. It looks like 2021 will be a dark year...

Lots of complications and past connections, so it qualifies to be a kdrama.

yea for the gang i know of them bc they were like the last to be killed by cap punishment. that story is so fucking bonkers. and yea 12 is high imo but it cant be that high and i know actual existence of these killers is low. according to kdrama world tho theyve got like about 80 killers and gangs of killers with affiliates roaming around so.....sorta concerning if that was true life LMAO

idk how many are in teh US and i do not care to find out!!! it's creepy. but there's sooo many thnigs they could focus on now. like cults are very big there too like in the US LETS KNOW MOOORE. ok i just really want another cult drama and no more serial killers bc most of them only have the lust for women's blood. very irritating.

“ most of them only have the lust for women's blood. very irritating. “

Well. There’s an opportunity for equal representation in kdramas- a female serial killer with a taste for men’s blood. There must be actresses of a certain age that could play the role, having a “career” as a serial killer for a few decades? SK doesn’t lack for cases of extreme abuse physical/psychological by men against women.

What sort of public life vs internal life?Who would you cast?

well there are way less female serial killers obviously and usually if they are doing the killing they're going to be part of a group (wernock or w/e was a lesbian killing johns) but that's just it. it's rare to have this level of serial killers and even rarer in that pool to have women do that. i do think that shows have to be more nuanced and can show the ways women enact terror with privilege (lets say money) to others but i wouldn't think of a show with a female serial killers because there would be little to no reference. has there ever been in SK a female one that's known?

instead of wanting a woman one, i just want these serial killers to stop being so common and specifically enacting violence against women bc it's an age old worn trope used throughout the world. i can't watch signal again for it because it just repulses me and it's pretty triggering (along with the fact that a victim was someone he was in love with which many times they are and then THAT'S when the men are like wow my WOMAN was MURDERED time to get fucking feral i mean giveeeee us a breaaak!)

but yea i couldnt even tell ya cos it didnt cross my mind. i think we just need to move on from serial killers LMAO

*wernock would be th eonly female one i know who wasnt like with a man (like usually it's couples that do it if a woman is involved or at least that's what i've heard...i dont want to look it up im scawwed)

I'm grateful that there's no phone or walkie talkie or radio or coma or tunnel connecting a 1999 person with a 1989 person. Even a great cast like this couldn't make me watch. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was reading the description dreading one of those scenarios.

if the serial killer is a person who hates women this is very annoying and they should stop it. if theyre going to address domestic terror and international well which i duobt then hm. but regardless i will watch it and yes scalp my fucking edges bc holy shit i love all 3 of them so much jesus christ
