Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk courted for new romance

Nam Joo-hyuk, Kim Tae-ri

A new drama called Twenty-Five, Twenty-One (working title) is in the works and the lead roles have been offered to Kim Tae-ri (Mr. Sunshine) and Nam Joo-hyuk (Start-Up).

The story will follow the characters from when they first meet in 1998, amid the economic chaos of South Korea’s IMF crisis. We then journey with the characters, exploring how their lives and relationships develop over the years until we reach present day in 2021. When they first meet at the ages of twenty and eighteen, they first learn each others names. At twenty-three and nineteen, their relationship is at odds but a year later, they’ve learned to trust one another. By the time they’re twenty-five and twenty-one, their love becomes more mature.

If Kim Tae-ri accepts, she will be playing the role of a promising fencing athlete named Na Hee-do. She started practicing when she was in high school and is now a rising star in her field, winning gold at the Asian Games and making it to the national team. Spirited and energetic, she is determined to keep running towards her dreams and making them come true.

The part that has been offered to Nam Joo-hyuk is news reporter Baek Yi-jin. He likes to chase stories from a wide range of topics and often goes undercover to get the information he needs, whether it means becoming a cosmetics salesman or even a security bodyguard. He first meets Kim Tae-ri while working on a sports case.

On the production team, the writer and one of the directors of Search Query: WWW will be leading the team for Twenty-Five, Twenty-One, writer Kwon Do-eun and PD Jung Ji-hyun respectively.

The drama is currently in the process of finalizing the cast and is planning to air early next year in 2022.

Wow, what a pair! I know I will be there. I hope I will be there, I mean... with so much corona, you will never know, but I hope I will be still hanging around in 2022, so that I can watch this! 😬

I'm not surprised she hasn't confirmed yet so I'll keep my opinion to myself.

How can they meet at 20 and 18 but then be 23 and 19 and 25 and 21 🤔

Still seems interesting. I need to recover from NJH's rather annoying character in Start-up, which hopefully this will do.

Time warp. He'll keep aging two years faster than her each decade.

A story on S.K's IMF crisis? Hmm...I dunno! With everything going on nowadays in Kdramaland, I seriously dread for any project regarding Korean history. I hope they don't end up giving the KBratz one more topic to whine.
Also with NJH...I don't know how to say it more nicely but knowing his long lasting friendship with Jisoo, there's a possibility for a negative publicity to occur. I mean I know his name hasn't popped anywhere near the case and I'm so glad for that but that was also when he wasn't on anyone's screen that time, until now. So now, I am full of dreads!

I did research this and to be fair, they didn't know each other during school years. I mean nothing is ever definite, but that gives me a little reassurance for the moment at least.

Not that this would stop negative publicity but it seems to be a 50/50 chance of friends of trash getting any kind of backlash. I think friends or groupmates deserve their own investigation and not just guilty by association, but I know netizens don't always give them that chance.

I hope your words become true. There's just too much of possible variables in this project!

If they try to attack him because he was friends with Ji Soo then I'm officially giving up kdramaland. It's getting too much.

It would be nice to have Kim Tae-ri back in drama land. Not sure about Nam Joo-hyuk or the plot though.

Who is 25, and who is 21? Is this a noona romance?

If she's filming a drama, Kim Tae-ri really should only be paired up with movie stars. I hated the age gap in Mr. Sunshine, but at least Lee Byung-hun matched her caliber.

Nam Joo-Hyuk is good when he acts characters like him : shy and awkward. But for the role of a journalist, a more charismatic actor will be better for me. Yoo Yeon Seok won't be free by chance? :p

I'm happy to see Kim Tae-Ri in a drama! I love her!

I'm willing to give NJH a chance here on the basis on the improvement he has shown in his acting so far.

Nam Joo Hyuk has played as journalist before (although we don't see him in actual work) in The Light in Your Eyes, so finger-crossed that he will be able to deliver the same quality in there

This drama has the potential to be god but the backdrop of the IMF crisis has me on the fence. I love Nam Joo Hyuk after Start Up and I'm willing to give him a chance here. I like the concept of the FL being a athlete. I'll wait for the beanie verdict on this one

I'm confused. they met in 1998 but their current age are 25/21 y.o? is this a time travel drama cause there is no way they 25/21 y.o when they were 23/19 y.o in 1998?
and what imf crisis has anything to do with time travel...

I will be watching this. I was a fencer in college (saber) so I wonder how authentic that will be- although this is clearly not primarily about the sport.

It may not look like it but in fact it is a very hard sport which requires not just strength but endurance and intelligence. The best analogy I can give is that it is like playing chess while simultaneously running an 1500 meter race- with a kilo weight in each hand.

They should get a better lead actor opposite Kim Tae-ri who's a very strong actor. Nam Joo Hyuk is shit and won't keep up with her. There isn't a shortage of good actors so they need to find one who can actually act and won't be embarrassing opposite her.

That sounds really hateful. No he's not shit. If you don't like his acting, frame it that way don't brand him with the reflection of your own hate. Bye.

this is a mismatched pairing in my opinion. kim taeri is a celebrated actress, and while nam joohyuk has improved, his acting is still awkward. it worked for his role in start up because his character was awkward, but you can see it in his facial expressions or line delivery in his other recent dramas like the light in your eyes.

also agree with the other comments that the synopsis sounds kind of confusing so far!
