Song Kang and Han So-hee confirmed for new drama

Song Kang, Han So-hee

Rising stars Song Kang (Love Alarm 2) and Han So-hee (A Couple’s World) are pairing up for a new JTBC drama called Even Though I Know. Based on a Naver webtoon by the same name (author: Jung Seo), it’s a love story between a woman who doesn’t believe in love but wants a relationship and a man who’s too lazy for a relationship but wants to engage in a light fling.

Expect a sweet, sexy and sometimes naughty drama about two twenty-two-year-old youths who don’t feel exactly like grown-ups yet. Song Kang plays the man who wants to feel the flutterings of romance, but isn’t looking for a relationship. He’s kind to everyone, but that’s because he’s not interested in others and is a proponent of the single life. He doesn’t get invested emotionally by drawing strict lines around his relationships, and is the master of playing hard to get.

Han So-hee plays a woman who doesn’t believe in fated love, but wants a steady boyfriend. Due to the cruel and pointless way her first love ended, she’s decided never to fall in love again. When Song Kang’s character approaches her, she’s attracted to him like magic, and she begins to falter in that decision.

JTBC Friday-Saturday drama Even Though I Know, directed by Kim Ga-ram (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency) and written by Jung Won, will begin airing in June after the end of Undercover’s run.

He is booked and busy. She also seems far older him even though they are the same age. I'll check it out, it is rare in kdramaland for actors to be around the same age let alone the same age. I also want a good old fashioned romance.

Based on only the premise it does feel like a very close iteration to Lee Minki and Nana's new drama jdhdd
Anyway if he's doing this does it mean the he's not doing the drama with Park Minyoung?

I saw on Twitter that park min young’s drama plans to shoot in summer which is in June so he’ll probably go into filming right as this drama premieres. He’s really hitting it close if he does accept

I was obsessed with the webtoon, but it was basically a portrayal of a friends (acquaintances) with benefits relationship that goes toxic. The male lead is irresistible trash at the beginning, but stays trash until the end. The female lead leaves the relationship carrying more damage and issues than she started with (which she carries over into a new relationship).

It was a realistic portrayal of what a relationship might look like (and end like) for a couple in their 20s not looking for anything serious, but feel a magnetic (physical) pull towards each other--where the girl gets more emotionally invested, and the guy just doesn't. I don't know if the drama will do this justice though, or just go the typical route of having them date happily in the end.

If anyone can read Korean, definitely check it out on Naver: https://m.comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=718018&page=1&week=thu

Interesting how relationships are portrayed nowadays. It must be at least partially true.
What I dislike (based on your description of the webtoom) is that she got emotionally attached even though he was trash.
The feminist side of me screams: men don't deserve you, let alone one that is trashy... 😒😡
But yeas, I bet the k-drama will go the route of the both falling in love badly and after a couple of misunderstandings, happy ever after. 😂😂😂
Will I be watching?? Doubt it.

I really simplified it in my summary, but there was more nuance that was captured in their relationship. For example, there were warning signs early-on that he was a flirt--he's associated with the image of a butterfly, which obviously goes from flower to flower, but never settles down--which she knew, and is always reminding herself of, so she doesn't expect more from him than a fling; as the fling goes on, there's a hint of something connecting between them on an emotional level, and he even stops flirting with other girls, that their college classmates/friends even notice and point out his change in behaviour to her, so it almost seems like it'll go down the typical k-romance route, until he meets up coincidentally with his ex-girlfriend from high school off-screen at a funeral when he goes to visit his hometown (it's implied that she was somebody he was actually serious about), so he ends things easily with the female lead when he returns to campus. She takes things in stride outwardly, but is obviously feeling the sting, and in a bout of petty revenge, exposes to his current girlfriend that she's slept with him. Again, off-screen, the girlfriend dumps the male lead, and when he realizes what the cause was, he goes to the female lead, pretending that she's always been the "one" and seduces her. She almost falls for it, and they almost sleep together, until she realizes last-minute that there's something off about his expression, and he won't look her in the eye when he says he loves her/cares for her. His revenge plan fails, but she's obviously hurt. He just laughs at her, and tells her it's a shame he wasn't able to get his revenge, and throw her away properly. And that's how it ends. He goes on with his life flirting and having flings with other girls, because he lost the one girl he cared for (his high school ex), and she moves on with a really good guy (but she can never shake her suspicions that he may be cheating, and can never trust him completely, because she's been so badly burned before). She also has a back story of having been in a not-so-great first relationship with her after-school art tutor/teacher, as a high school student, that's already left her with trust issues, so they're just made worse at this point.

Phew. I was not expecting to write an essay, but can you tell I was obsessed? It was like reading/watching a train wreck (the male lead made me so mad!), but thinking back, I think this was the only ending that really made sense. I would be really impressed if they kept to the original webtoon ending.

... I was tempted to watch but now... Blah... I'm sorry Time is scarce and I don't want to waste it watching some "realistic" show. My free time is to enjoy "fantasy", where the good guys wins, and a couple no matter how rocky the start end up with their happily ever after... all the while making both partners better people by the end...

Don't know if I'll bother. I'm sure it's an interesting webtoon... But that's a no for me... Too bad after the Love Alarm fiasco I wanted to watch Song Kang in something sweet.

Hmm, quite dramatic and dark. I prefer the one with Nana, which looks more light-hearted. As for stories go with webtoons being adapted to dramas, I would rather go with Blind Office Date (the story has many hijinks and things that frustrated me, but it was far from being toxic).

In this case, I have no problem with the spoiler, because I won't be watching.
Honestly... what's wrong with young people nowadays???!!!!😂😂😂😂😡
Hum... that webtoon... to think that some young people have read it and will be reading it, and thinking that those are normal situations! 🙄
I really dislike toxic relationships.
On the other hand, I know, most K-dramas are all about the fantasy of a perfect never-ending story.... I know it is also not real...
But at least they make me feel better.

Thanks for the summary. Even if the kdrama adaptation is better, I won't be watching.
Greetings!!!!!🙋

Ohhhh thanks for the write-up. That sounds dark and interesting. Explains the title too, haha. I think if they get the tone right, it could be fun in a fucked-up way lol.

This is interesting, though I highly doubt that they will break away from the norm of having everything wrapped up nicely at the end.

Yeah, it's not a happy ending, so I would be shocked (but impressed) if they kept it the same.

Oh I can see that you’re now registered! Welcome Beanie! 🥳

It’s a lot easier to read the text in black. I hope everyone’s registered. It’s more fun too yeah!

Thank you for the welcome! I thought I'd be able to edit my comments if I registered (to hide my unintended spoilers), but alas...T_T.

It does make it easier to comment though (I've been a site lurker for years), and I know the dramabeans community is quite lovely for the most part, so I'm glad to have registered. :)

2

@leeanna86 We are LOVELY for all the parts LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I see. You were 'tricked' into registering, but that was all for the best. Have fun commenting!

But it would be interesting if they did not change the ending. Even though its not a happy ending, it would be a brief of fresh air.

I read an article about a new trend called "Stylish Toxic Relationships," in which the public perception of a couple is romantic, loving and sharing but under its bubblegum shell lies a very controlling, manipulating, selfish, gas lighting and abusive partner.

The abused partner stays in the relationship because of the outward benefits: popularity, career improvement, and the idea of being a couple instead of being lonely. They are seen as the "perfect" story book couple so they continue to play up those roles like mimicking celebrity couples. But the abused person never leaves the infatuation stage to see reality and the other person's flaws because he/she becomes isolated from any former support (family and friends).

Yeah.. upon reading your comment I suddenly thought of the parents of the ML in Run On. That was one toxic relationship. It was refreshing and rewarding to see how she broke up with him at the end of the show.

And what you described near the end is actually an accurate description of manipulation in a relationship: Having the abused isolated from their supportive circle is one of the requirements to be able to manipulate them.

So, I guess you will nominate Taecyeon?

2

@kurara unless I have some Junho's or NGM abs, you are probably right 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

I'm sure you can nominate more than one Eazal.

2

@eazal knowing that the 3/4 of NGM's instagram are pictures of him dieting and exercising and his next project will have action, he will be a good contender.

2

@kurama yes!!! I can’t wait!!
And @mmmmm considering all the rabbit holes I inhabit and my love for the pretty boy you should already know by now that even it there is THE ONE I would also give some honorable mentions 😎

3

I have my whole heart for BB Eazal. I buried other rabbit holes and am inhibiting only one here. BB has to be proud.

2

You’re such a devoted Beanie, Babe is so fortunate to have you.
But... I’m so easily distracted...

I prefer a sweet love story not a realistic toxic relationship. I started watching it since it is a short series, let's say I want the ending to surprise me.
An unhappy ending is not my cup of tea. Keeping my fingers crossed.
