Korean newspapers reported that Star actresses Song Hye-kyo, Ko Hyun-jung, Lee Bo-young and Jeon Ji-hyun are all returning to the small screen in the second half of 2021. The big takeaway from the article was this quote:

One industry insider said, "There has been growing interest in stories led by female characters, and this has driven many star scriptwriters to team up with top actresses."

I think this is a very interesting and important trend especially when actresses in their late 30s/early 40s hit a career crossroad.

Song, who went on hiatus after divorcing Song Joong-ki in 2019, has already started her new TV series, “Now We Are Breaking Up”, where she will play "trendy, intelligent and realist" manager of a fashion label's design team. Ko will star in the JTBC drama "Someone Like You" also set to air in the second half. She plays an ambitious artist and writer. Lee is set to star in the tvN drama "Mine," which depicts the lives of strong women who transcend social stereotypes. Jeon last appeared in the SBS drama "Legend of the Blue Sea" four years ago. She will play a veteran park ranger in “Mount Jiri” is a mystery drama about people who climb through the mysterious and unexplored regions of Mount Jiri, the largest mountain on the South Korean mainland.

There may be more star power in the second half of 2021. Son Ye-jin is being courted to return to the small screen for JTBC’s upcoming drama “Thirty-Nine.” “Thirty-Nine” will center on three friends nearing the age of 40 who are facing mid-life crisis and are searching for lifelong romance. If she accepts, Son will play Cha Mi-jo, the 39-year-old director of Gangnam Dermatology Clinic. Jeon Mi-do also received an offer for a role in the drama as Jung Chan-young, a 39-year-old acting teacher.

I, for one, am looking forward to all these stories! As a self-proclaimed strong female character of a certain age myself, I really think there was a paucity of these in kdramas. The world is changing and kdramas are changing with it. Yay!

Before that, Lee Bo-young also did a cameo/guest as a bar woman in episode 10 of Start-Up (2020). That was before her leading role in upcoming drama Mine.

Back in 2018 we got the JTBC series 'Misty' with a standout older female lead performance by Kim Nam-joo (though the series de-aged the character to fit the odd plot timeline). Out of that series Jeon Hye-jin emerged as a sought-after character actress for mature roles. Her next series Search: WWW had a storyline involving powerful women at 40 that ended (spoiler alert) with the three women driving off into the sunset together with no men in sight.
An honorable mention goes to 47 year old Baek Ji -won, who first came to my attention as the senior writer in 'Melo Is my Nature' and now can be found in character roles in multiple series

still not 3115k - stats are fake. how and why?
Twitter, google news, reddit news forums can provide you better details and i regularly check 9 different countries except China.
For china you can have baidu or signup few Chinese forums(mostly for downloading stuff - mainly JP media) or
try out anonymouu boards - 5ch and 2chan from Japan and
for Chinese - there 2 selective ones - won't name them.

That's why my stats stay much in line with real outcome than official outcome. All the work done to please my own self. Numbers and numbers alone.

I never went into cryptocurrencies. I knew they will inflate and inflate more but still had no enthusiasm towards them and forex market is so unregulated that i don't wish to invest much in it. Frauds n scams do happen and its very painful experience. All your hardwork just gone within few seconds so i'm not keeping much investment in it. 1k-2k is good enough.

Someone delusional was speaking about negativity n these r d delusional identities that can't fathom d realities of the average human life. These kinds of identities find harsh truths as negatives and shove around their facemasks everywhere. Well, your life your rules and better to respect that of others too. better learn that.

Good Morning Beanies! How are things today? Just wanted to check in. It’s been over a year with COVID19 in our midst, are you all doing well? I hope so! Life has been hectic as always. Some things keeping me sane.

Kdramas. I am LOVING Navillera. I’m really torn between Song Kang and Na In-woo winning the Baeksang. But Navillera makes me think Song Kang should get it hands down. Na In-woo has a great career coming though. He’s my sentimental favorite with all the hell he went through filming RIVER. He worked all night, lost several kilos, and it shows in the drama. I still have the last 2 episodes to finish and then rewatching the first 6 with him in it. Still watching Money Flower, but on hold, and also started Jang Nara’s new one.

Singing. Yes, I (barely) sing. Got invited to a kdrama doctor group on FB, found some other Asian American/Canadian ladies, and we formed a singing group on-line. We are just “practicing” now, but hope to sing a kdrama OST soon! We’re doing it through the SMULE app. I’m allykdrama there if anyone else sings here and wants to listen--I'm not the strongest voice, at all, but it is fun!

Writing. Not really fun writing, but writing all the same. I’m writing for a local medical journal now, as the co-editor. Actually, just had a meeting last night about it. I’ve been doing a series on the new COVID19 vaccines. I know, snore….but it’s still writing.

Conversation:

My daughter and the math genius: middle school in the pandemic…
One day, I’m going to write a book about being in middle school in a pandemic. Talk about hormones, stress, and the drama!

Daughter: S has been texting everyone and complaining about how she’s been bullied by everyone.
Me: What are they doing to her?
Daughter: Stealing her phone. Texting boys she likes and telling them she likes them.
Me: Is math genius (the one who had a crush on her) one of them?
Daughter: He’s the one that stole her phone!
Me: So I think that means he still likes her.
Daughter: Well, that didn’t make her like him at all. She was crying and everything.
Me: *thinking* The unavailable male lead who torments the female lead appears.
Moral of the story: Kdrama romances are all based on middle school crushes.

2nd moral: Cute kids grow up...

3rd moral: Stay positive, Beanies!

Today was rising actor Song Kang's birthday! He's from currently ongoing drama Navillera, which will end next week. Not only Song Kang's acting career but he was a celeb ad endorser too! I hoped that I had more powers for Song Kang's next big projects including his dramas.

Hi beanies, gosh I’m down with a mega cold. I forget how a cold can zap your energy and smile! Oh Master is oddly good, I nearly forgot our Bi-Soo is on borrowed time until the Scheduler showed up again. Like Bi-Soo needs this. I do get weary of the “don’t tell (Mom, my son, anyone else) syndrome in this drama. And then that person is indirectly told anyway . Joo-in is smart and I can live with her decisions because Nana plays her so well. How will this drama end?? Well, I’ve used up all the energy I have to pop in and 👋. Have a happy weekend all!

Hello.

It’s midnight here and the problem is that I’m craving carbonara .. or pesto pasta. I think I might try my first attempt at making the pesto one tomorrow because we have basils in our kitchen yard. If you have some good pesto recipes please do share. I’m having trouble choosing one over the others from the Internet.

Well, it’s a shortcut of sorts, but I love pasta with a drizzle of olive oil, snipped fresh basil, cracked pepper, and shredded Parmesan cheese. It’s comfort food time!

Because it's the season (at least in my country), you can use wild garlic to make your pesto. It's very good. I was walking in the forest and it was everywhere! So it's free :D

this is what i use, from Marcella Hazan's Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking book:

PESTO by the Food Processor Method

2 tightly packed cups of fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 Tbsp pine nuts
2 cloves garlic, chopped fine or pressed
salt (i use about 1/2 tsp)

process to uniform, creamy consistency. (see my note below)

transfer to bowl, then mix in:
1/2 cup fresh grated parmigianno-reggiano cheese
2 Tbsp freshly grated romano cheese
-- mix in the two grated cheeses by hand, when evenly mixed add:

3 Tbsp butter, softened to room temp
-- distribute evenly into the sauce.

when spooning the pesto over pasta, dilute it slightly with a tablespoon or two of the hot pasta water (reserved after boiling pasta).

top tossed pesto pasta with grated parmesan...

note: i do the first part, then put in ice cube tray to freeze -- then i baggie the cubes up and put in a freezer ziplock to use throughout the year! if you don't use the defrosted pesto to toss directly with pasta (i add the grated cheese and butter when cooking the pasta), you can use a cube or two in your normal marinara sauce instead of using dried basil...

i will have two basil plants in my garden this year because i finally ran out of my frozen pesto cubes...

If it is not showing at a theatre near you, sometimes Viki gets distribution rights a month or 2 after the Korean theatrical release and you can rent it there for 5$.

If you don't mind illegal streaming or downloading, I am sure you could find a copy of it online a few weeks after release.

Nothing much, just want to say that I miss Hwang Geomsa-nim a little extra these days, even to the point that it both amuses me that "Vincenzo" has Chief Prosecutor Hwang in its world and also irks me much that the character's so corrupt.

Hello all:
Been busy complaining about this everlastingly long winter and proofing a new novel. Just peeking up to say hi.
Dramas:
Took me til episode four to get into Law School. It seemed so cold to begin with and i had to warm up to it. Conspiracies upon conspiracies abound.
Taxi Driver -- Who knew i had such a driving passionate spiteful desire to get bad at bad guys? Justice is a scary thing. Gotta tone down my righteous indignation and stretch those mercy muscles to save my vengeful soul. Apparently.
My first daily in years: Be My Dream Family. Fun with angst that's actually easy to handle.
Might start Oh My Master on iqiyi.
Have a great weekend all.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Yesterday the formation ended and I used that last opportunity to ask the teachers some study tips for specific chapters. The current formation is challenging enough on its own because it takes topics from the previous course and looks at them from a complete different angle. The specific chapters however did not ring a bell, so I gathered my courage and asked. Last time I had a teacher with zero tolerance for my inability to understand the course materials, so I was bracing myself.

The teacher points out that those topics will be covered in detail in the next formation…and then it all starts clicking together. Other students get brave and chime in when the teacher starts questioning the course level. It turns out that we were the first group of rookies to be taught while the formation is usually oriented towards more experienced employees. The teacher realizes that what comes naturally to those with experience, needs to be taught to rookies first.

I leave the zoom class. A few hours later we are notified that the specific chapters will be dropped from the exam because it would have been unfair to test us on chapters that are too advanced for our level of knowledge. Even the formation academy took our feedback to heart and decided to adapt a couple of formations and make them more oriented towards rookie employees in the future. And it all started because I had a simple question!😎

We're getting into 2021 and still no sign of that promised Park Seo-joon/IU movie. Its nearing the one year anniversary of filming beginning, last May. I hear COVID-19 is keeping some planned foreign location shots from being filmed. I suppose a lot of production companies are in the same boat.

Hi beans. I hope everyone is happy, healthy and had a great week :)

Lot's of Sungrok updates this week and month 😆.

He finally has a magazine photoshoot 🥳 (after so many years 🥲). Some Dracula musical updates 🧛🏻‍♂️. The making for his baseball CF was also released 🌸⚾️. More home shopping pics too 🛍.

Yesterday Sungrok was identified as a close contact. Today his agency revealed his test results and thankfully it's negative. He'll self quarantine according to quarantine guidelines. I hope all others still waiting for their results will hear good news too.

*hugs* I'm sorry for your loss. It is a particularly painful and special kind of loss and grief, not only because he's your dad, but you lost him during a time when we're mostly in isolation, when you can't hold the same mourning rituals as before, when the whole world seems numb to the scale of tragedy, and when a vaccine has just arrived. I lost my dad to Covid last year (one year death anniversary coming up; he was on a ventilator this time last year) and he didn't even have any health issues beyond some mildly high blood pressure.
