Kim Hee-sun signs on as grim reaper for new MBC drama

Based on a popular webtoon by the same title, a new fantasy drama called Tomorrow is being planned by MBC with Kim Hee-sun (Alice) playing a leading role.

The story puts a twist on the traditional grim reapers and re-imagines them as supernatural heroes who ensure justice is served in perpetrator/victim scenarios and make effort to prevent human death when possible. Institutionalized under a central organization that functions much like a business corporation, the reapers are assigned to different teams who each have specific tasks.

In this world, Kim Hee-sun takes on the role of a grim reaper named Goo-ryun, the charismatic and fearless leader of the risk management team. Among other duties, the team is responsible for helping humans who are struggling with thoughts of suicide and providing them with much needed support. But due to Kim’s icy personality, even among the reapers she is known as the woman who came back from hell.

Production for the drama will be lead by film director Kim Tae-yoon (Mr. Zoo: the Missing VIP, New Trial) as well as PD Sung Chi-wook (Kairos, Special Labor Inspector Jo), and scripts will be penned by writers Park Ran and Kim Yoo-jin.

MBC drama Tomorrow is currently being planned to have 16 episodes and will be airing in the early half of next year, 2022.

So... not very good at their job??
Or brand new team just starting up?

(Or are we supposed to think things would be even worse without them?)

Or, understaffed, over worked, and … suicidal?

If I had to pick a Korean actress to play "The Woman Who Came Back From Hell," Kim Hee Sun would be up at the top of my list. She has a amazing gravitas.

Plus a female grim reaper, yes PLS!! I want/need more females given supernatural powers to more women!! Like Kim Hee Sun and Nana as the Gong Yoo/Lee Dong Wook pairing in a K-drama? Reminds me that there's so many 'bromance' pair ups but rarely 'sismances' pairings. I want to see more females take charge, I do wish Rowoon was gender swapped to a talented female actress instead.

I wonder if Rowoon will accept a role in this drama. A non-romance drama could be a good idea for him.

I'm not too excited by the plot. Isn't that what ANGELS are supposed to be doing?
I "loved" Lee Dong Wook (and Gong Yoo) in GOBLIN, but his brand of Joseung Saja had heart, but didn't turn the legend inside out and upside down.

MBC is going back to try to save themselves since 2019 and beyond has been a downfall (ratings wise) for them. Kim Hee Sun is a big name, so she must've not been cheap. Plus woman is ageless! Despite her maybe sharp looks, people who've worked w/ her in rl, have said she's kind and loving in real life! That's nice to hear!

I'm sure she's much cheaper than any "name" male actor.

Sad but that's the truth unfortunately. I stg if Rowoon gets paid more than her, that's just plain laughable/unbelievable. Seriously though, the pay gap is prob. awful in Korean industry. They seriously need their own actors/crew union ASAP!! And more power given to veteran talents who have proven their worth!!

Hence, they opt to go for the veteran/established who can act and deliver the ratings.
