Nevertheless: Episode 7 Open Thread

Our heroine might have enjoyed her change of scenery, but when she’s faced with two suitors, her head and her heart seem to always be at odds. Which one should she trust? Head, heart, potato, butterfly. She tries to make the right decisions, but in the end, we’re left questioning the strength of her resolve.

EPISODE 7 WEECAP

If ever there was a frustrating episode it is this one — when we pick up with the stare-down we left off with last week, the staring doesn’t really stop from that point on. In fact, each scene seems to exist only to put the characters in our love triangle at opposing points, and then have them stare each other down.

What kind of stares you ask? Well, it depends on the character, and who they are staring at. For Jae-un, it’s stares of jealousy when she’s with Do-hyuk, and stares of desire when he gets her alone. Do-hyuk’s stares are more of an inquiry: who is this Jae-un and what is between him and Na-bi? He senses something, and stares them down to try to figure it out.

Na-bi, though, seems to be staring only in one direction: Jae-un’s. And it doesn’t even look voluntary. There’s nothing she mistrusts when she’s with Do-hyuk, so her stares are always outwards. You can almost hear her thoughts: Is he looking at me? *she looks over at him* Is he watching me? *she looks at him to find out* Why is he talking to that other girl? *she stares at him to convince herself he’s not into her* And so on.

Some viewers might find this episode of jealousy and desire to be an enjoyable one, with every situation catering to the sexual tension between Na-bi and Jae-un. They find themselves in the car with Do-hyuk. They find themselves alone on the ferris wheel. They play another one of Bit-na’s drinking games and Jae-un is pretty unmasked in his desire for her. Is anyone out there enjoying this?

Being on Team Potato is rough, not because I’m not used to SLS, but because it makes no sense in this story. Na-bi and Jae-un don’t really have a relationship beyond sex — and that very lack of emotional intimacy is what caused Na-bi to pull away from him in the first place. Does she think that will change so easily?

In contrast, she has a much more grounded and full relationship with Do-hyuk. They not only have a common past, but he knows her as a person, understands her, likes who she is, and values her. So it might be a no-brainer to me, but in the world of Nevertheless, there seems to be nothing more powerful than pheromones. And Na-bi can’t deny herself.

At the end of the episode, after endless gazing and pining and fighting with their eyes, Jae-un stays behind with Na-bi and does his usual routine. He corners her, kisses her, and says if she accepts his kisses he’s not going to be able to stop. Do-hyuk calls just then, as if we didn’t already know that Na-bi needed a (literal) wake-up call. Will it work?

The episode is pretty low on plot, but we do see more of the adorable sunbae couple who are now cohabitating, and clearly enjoying every minute of it. These two are the cutest. Can we get more of this non-toxic relationship, please?

Similarly, we’ve been all but guaranteed Sol knows all too well what her feelings for Ji-wan are. As much as I want to like Ji-wan here, the more I see of her, the more her cutesy ditzy ways irk me. (If they could dial her acting back to maybe 85% instead of 100%, it might be a little more endearing. As such, I think she’s just meant to contrast the absolute non-bubbly and non-silly personality of Sol.)

While we’re on the topic, Bit-na also irks me. I understand why we need her as a character, and her position of always instigating moments and lighting fires, but I’m losing patience for her, particularly with the way she’s treated Kyu-hyun. Their argument/silent treatment continues through the episode until they finally have conversation on the beach. It’s like Kyu-hyun said everything I wanted to: “Is it fun to tease people and make them uncomfortable? You gossip about others just for your enjoyment.” He breaks up with her and walks off.

This couple is important to the story, I think, because they provide the inversion of Na-bi and Jae-un’s story. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how they’re different, though. Kyu-hyun knows when he’s getting played, when the person he has feelings for doesn’t match his sincerity, and doesn’t want what he wants. He has the inner strength to walk away, which leaves us to guess whether Na-bi can do the same.

Unfortunately, Kim Min-gwi has a real-life scandal going on, and his onscreen time will be reduced during the remaining episodes. This sucks in many ways, but in terms of the story, I’m sorry we won’t get to see more of the one character who is sensible and able to think objectively. I also liked the friendship we were seeing grow between him and Jae-un — that seemed beneficial for Jae-un’s growth — so I’ll be sorry to see that angle dropped (and will be hoping it’s not).

With only three episodes left to go, I’m honestly not sure where we are going to land. As Na-bi continues to lean towards Jae-un, and Jae-un leans towards Na-bi, I’m wondering if we just might get a “happy ending” for them after all? This is the one case where I might be disappointed with that. Because after episodes of red flags, foreshadowing, and Na-bi claiming to have opened the gates of hell, where is the promised pandemonium?

Episode ended on a cliffhanger. I really don't know if, after the initial kiss, Nabi did have the strength to resist Jae-eon's animal magnetism. At this point, she doesn't deserve Potato Boy either, assuming he takes her after knowing what he and Jae eon have/had done.

Not really convinced that was a confession from Ji-Wan. I think with her immaturity, she's just upset at the possibility that Sol would shift her attention away from her. Sol doesn't have eyes for anyne but her tho, much to the dismay of the boys crushing on her.

Amazingly, the sunbae-hoobae relationship is the one I liked, with the mother even giving them her approval to shack up. (haha... what a liberated mom to allow that for her college son).

I did not like Gyu-hyun's sulking. Why was he even there to begin with if he was just gonna ruin the mood of the party? If he wanted to end things, he should have just done so, without the dark cloud hanging over his head.

That kiss says it all but they need words for the ears to hear and brain to comprehend what is going on between them. I am in for whatever the writer decided to go. At episode 7, I am tired inspecting every strand of their complex story. I just want to sit and watch the train wrech as it happen.

I was nervous Do-hyuk would walk in on them kissing, so I was relieved when he only called, but since Na-bi ignored his call, he's probably on his way back to the guesthouse. When Jae-eon lifted up Na-bi's sleeve to reveal her cut, the fact that he noticed she got hurt was heart fluttering. Do-hyuk needs to stop his cousin's shameless flirting, but I wonder if whom Jae-eon wanted to kiss tonight was really Do-yeon's question.

I was so annoyed at Bit-na and friends for constantly making Do-hyuk take photos for them. He's not your photographer. Ji-wan's drunken confession was so frustrating. I kept yelling, "Spit it out! WHY does she have to only like you?!" Bit-na accused Na-bi of ruining the vibe when in fact Kyu-hyun was the one ruining the vibe. Bit-na tried so hard to placate Kyu-hyun -- making conversation, feeding him, bringing him a sparkler -- but he was still upset and nagged her over everything.

When Na-bi fed Do-hyuk the twisted doughnut, I squeed when he put his hand on top of her hand. I was waiting for her to take a bite after him for an indirect kiss. "Let's eat them later" sounded cute because it implied there would be a later.

A big thanks for the weecap, @missvictrix!

Something felt decidedly off this episode. Had knit-hat guy already been told that he was being written out of the series? Because he had the demeanor of someone who had been given a death sentence and it didn't feel like 'just acting'.

The only couple that touched me was Sol and Ji-wan. Ji-wan isn't self-aware enough to understand what it is she's feeling while Sol is all too aware of what she's feeling.

That couple playing house. Who were they again? It felt like scenes from an entirely different series had been intercut with this show. Oh wait... they're... uh... the teachers, right? wow, I had to dig deep to find that.

And yeh, Na-bi's still the worst. ;-)

I have always favored the heart over the brain...which means I'm all for falling in love compared to choosing the safer option. That's how we live, people. We feel emotions that take us to heights and depths which evoke further emotions. Admittedly, a train wreck waiting to happen, considering that PJE has issues with commitment but I personally would not go for the safer choice compared to the person whom I love. Or at the very least, the person whoawakens such delicious feelings in me.

Jae-un's car. I don't know what model it was but a Maserati sedan retails for somewhere between $80,000 and $102,000 U.S. I doubt a bohemian art student like Jae-un would even want a car like that. I'm reminded of that storyline in 'The Producers' where the variety show producer scratches the door of her intern's Jaguar ('Dad's car') in the parking lot and she spent the whole series paying him back in installments.

Sigh I’ve seen so many people really hate the leads and saying it’s unbearable, but really , I’m sure there are so much more people like them irl than those typical close to perfect ML/FL.

I’m thankful someone actually dared to bring something controversial like this out on TV, not to justify or normalise, but rather to acknowledge the truth that complexities and messiness in relationships exists.
How often does fluffy love stories that are
o-so-clear happen to us or ard us?

I normally love fluffy dramas but this drama really got to my heart because I know the in and outs of a relationships are rarely ever fluffy. Although sweet, it can very much be complicated, ambiguous

Please dont take offence if you don’t like the leads because I too understand why:) am just sharing because this drama has strangely touched my heart

What Na-bi and Jae-eon have is also a relationship. Just because they do not officially date each other, would that negate what they have experienced emotionally together?

I love the complexed and flawed characters. They are more relatable than those 'perfectly penned' ML / FL.

Agree with you 100%. They are in the "knowing stage" of "their" relationship. Nabi and Jae-eon are free to navigate it until they finally in the same page. They are young and still in school, why would anyone want a safe route in that stage.

ITA. I love slice of life dramas that depict more realistic relationships than the typical rom com with their never ending over used tropes (like how many times are we going to have leads that someone how crossed paths as kids). 'Something In the Rain' (even though the FL's mother and 'Stand By Your Man' on a never ending loop was a horror) and 'One Spring Night' was just such a refreshing change to the way relationships are often depicted in rom coms. Nabi and Jaeun's relationship is messy, but lack of communication is a major factor in what's wrong with it. Nabi just fled after Seol-Ah told her she was Jaeun's girlfriend. She didn't even bother to go to Jaeun for clarification. She doesn't even know the girl and what her real intentions are.

I agree with you, Missvictrix.

I don't like Ji-Wan, she acts like a cute princess who can have everything she wants. Her confession wasn't cute, she made it about her, again. She can go to a lot of blind dates, but Sol got a cold shoulder if she invented one guy one time... Sol always protects her and defends her and if she doesn't, it made Ji-Wan angry. Their relationship is not healthy.

I want Sol and Kyu-Hyun to find better partners, they deserve better.

Na-Bi thinks that he has a girlfriend but still went for it. So Potato guy should run away and find a girl who knows what she wants!

You see Youtubers and podcasters who in their late 20s or older abruptly announce they realize they are lesbian. That reminds me of Ji-wan. She has a 'sentimental attachment' towards Sol but she lacks the self awareness to understand what it is she's feeling and why she's feeling it. Which is basically torturing Sol who is afraid Ji-wan will bolt if she confesses to her.

First off, I think Potato is too good for Na-bi. He is the healthier option, but she doesn't deserve him. And while I think Jae-un has some emotional and mental things he needs to work out, I think Na-bi is the more toxic one. Initially I felt a little bad for her, but episode after episode, I no longer feel sorry. If you choose Jae-un, I am fine with that, but if you repeatedly choose him and complain about it, then you first need to look at yourself.

Why does he deserve to be liked by Na-bi? He is the one who is seeking her out, not the other way round. Is she obliged to like him back, because he is nice and sincere? I would be happy, if she would fall in love with him, because he is so nice, but I cannot blame her, if she does not and is still hung up on Jae-un.

I don't think he "deserves" to be liked by Na-bi. I just think in her current emotional and mental state she isn't healthy or right for him. I also don't think she has to like him just because he is nice and she has the right to like whoever she wants...and currently that is Jae-un. In their current state, I just think our ML and FL have a lot of soul-searching they need to do and issues to work through individually.

Required fields are marked *

I do feel more and more sorry for Na-bi, because she gets the blame here for ending up in an impossible situation.
The whole sorry saga started with Na-bi drowning her sorrow in a bar over a failed relationship, where she encounters Jae-un, mistaking her for somebody else. He quickly cancels his original date and starts pursuing her. This develops into a complicated relationship which she tries to escape by retreating to her hometown. Here she comes into contact again with Do-hyuk, a childhood friend whom she met by chance and not by her design earlier after a long time. But instead of being able to get some breathing space and to relax with him, she now has to deal with his love interest in her on top of her own tumultuous emotions. How could she take responsibility for his feelings in that situation? To make matters worse, Jae-un turns up as well to rattle up the boat. That girl just cannot get a break!
Do-hyuk was oblivious to all of that and I am very curious to see how he will react. Will he wait for her feelings to settle on him or will he give up on her as a lost cause?

2
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think Na-bi is just as toxic, if not more, as Jae-on. If I were Jae-on or Do-Hyuk, choosing Na-bi would be an equally unwise decision. She is one big walking red flag herself. She never says whats on her mind or articulates her expectations from Jae-on. In fact it was her and not Jae-on who asked the relationship to be kept secret. She does not even tell Jae-on that she likes him or how much. Never once has she mentioned that she is interested in dating Jae-on seriously. Why does the guy always have to ask out the girl or articulate the seriousness of the relationship? That is also sexist. She runs away whenever the situation requires any amount of clarification and is always using vague innuendos and hints for Jae-on to then unravel. He in fact wants to talk it out at some points. She evades.
Also, there is nothing inherently morally superior or inferior (toxic) about either monogamy or sleeping with multiple people. Its lack of honesty which is the problem and even not knowing what makes you happy. To that extent, all characters (except Do-Hyuk and Kyu-hyun) are guilty.

12
1

Required fields are marked *

Absolutely! Both Nabi and Jae-Won are hypocrites. Nabi is so, because her pride prevents her from articulating wat she wants from JE, because she fears the likely possibility of being turned down for a serious relationship. JE is a hypocrite, because he is unfamiliar with 'feelings' of such degree for any other human (he's pretty self-centered come to think of it); hence he likes to play it cool, but deep down it bothers him whenever Nabi hangs around with other men.
And this is just scratching the surface of the multitude of other problems they each have. Right or wrong, I do not know. But I know this... they will never work out, in the long-run, should they decide to give it a try.

I have no problem with all these morally grey characters, as painful as it is to watch their choice of actions. As long as Show doesn't try to paint them as cute/romantic. I think Show has done well so far because even the 'romantic' scenes still make my skin crawl.

I don't like most of the characters here as in i wouldn't hang out with them in real life. Except for potato boy. Run potato boy, run. Don't get entangled into the shipwreck that is bound to happen.

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree with too much staring and too little clarification, although I can understand that all the players in the love triangle are too uncertain about who is close with whom just now. Do-hyuk had no idea that there is a rival, but he is learning fast. Na-bi is looking for confirmation that Jae-un is more sincere now, but the mistrust sits deep. Jae-un will have been surprised to see competition and is trying to find out how serious it is. In that situation I found his so called confession falling short. It is good to hear him say that he missed her and is thinking about her, but the elephant in the room is the supposedly girlfriend. Why he thinks that this is not the issue here is beyond me.

The characters that I find increasingly unbearable are Ji-wan who is trying to get Sol's attention with whining, whining and more whining, and Bit-na with her cruel games. For Do-hyuk's cousin I would have the advice not to ask a question, if you do not know the answer. She might have learned now.

This makes it even more upsetting that the best character, Kyu-hun, is written out of the series. The public might be interested in his love life, but it does not serve the public interest to see him punished by the production company. He is not accused of being a bully or of criminal behaviour. He should be able to have a private life. It is also unfair for the other actors who will be written out in these scenes, too.

Na Bi has been attracted to JE from the beginning. Both of them were. I just don't understand how they couldn't have formed a relationship if he sleeps over after they have s*x, as shown in the montage of positions they have while sleeping. He goes home early morning (exhibited when he walks out of her place when the sun has not risen fully), so I assume he stays the whole night. And as I have seen in the variety of clothes they wore during the montage, he has been sleeping with her several days a week. Even Nabi said she wanted to keep their 'relationship' a secret, acknowledging that they have one. The lollipop kiss also shows that JE is all set for others to know that they have a sort of relationship. It was NB who was shocked by his actions. She reprimanded him after the kiss.

I was also (as was Nabi haha) surprised about the lollipop kiss. One could argue that he was pretty confident that no one else was around before doing that or that he doesn't care since people know he's a player...buttttt I'd like to think it was for another reason, unbeknownst to JE at the time. Hahah.

From when I rewatched some episodes, I noticed that they've purposely shown the date on either Nabi or Jae Eon's phone. The start of the drama was in early March, and they started their "relationship" a little less than a month later...which then lasted about a month or so before Nabi broke it off.

She has huge trust issues. I can't blame her for that. The damage from her previous story is spilling over into this relationship, and his reputation only makes things worse. In this last episode, she looks more resentful than ever, when she looks at him.

I also found the last scene very close to creepy. It was a classic, "you know you want it" situation. I looked to me that "no means no" should have been more applicable.

The push-pull relationship is provoked by jealousy and rejection. She wants him when she sees him with someone else. When she's with him, she's not sure she actually wants him. He wants her when she pulls away from him. It's all about them seeing themselves as wanted (and having their individual egos bosted). When they feel rejected, they have to "win" the other person again to feel wanted. Sick puppies.

Korea does not like scandal/controversy attached to anything as they believe it will taint their image. They take honor very seriously and are unfortunately an extremely critical society. Ironic isn't it that the production company is touting a drama series that is presumably making money for them, which series includes a 'womanizing' young man who may be redeemable, and yet in reality / Korean culture, the actor(s) themselves cannot 'womanize' in real life and are not given a chance to redeem themselves. Since we are biological creatures, yes, pheromones are powerful, and important. A relationship equally requires the heart as well as the head; it will not be successful if there is an absence of attraction. Also, what appeals to us may not appeal to others, it is different for everyone.

To me it's abundantly clear that Na bi is not attracted (feeling the pheronomes!) for Potato boy in the world of Nevertheless.

He seems like a genuinely kind-hearted guy; I'm not sure he has seen that sculpture of 'Nabi' by her ex-boyfriend, and whether that has possibly done anything to him and how he decided to approach her later.

And it does look like it all started for him in the exhibition. So he saw the sculpture and her.

So are we getting our girls couple?

So. Much. Staring. This ep was like 50% staring from our leads...either jealousy-ly or longingly. The ep was also kind of slow. Hopefully things pick back up next week when they're back at school. I am curious about what Nabi's aunt is going to say about JE and excited about that life drawing scene. Hellooooo model Song Kang. And the most awkward car ride award goes to our three leads. Lol.

Netflix needs to hire better translators. They are getting quite messy with their translations and leave out quite a bit of details. Some more important than others. For instance, a few episodes back when they were playing the consonant game at Nabi's house, Jiwan says "period" and that is why Nabi and Jae Eon exchange a glance. And in this ep, when they're teasing Do Hyeok and Nabi about maybe being a couple after he says she was his childhood crush, the girl with the bob says "like the reply series!" And of course, as I mentioned above, the whole "that's not the issue" mistranslation. Anyways...

I do not understand why JE just won't tell Nabi that Seol-A is not his gf. He had the perfect opportunity to do so when Nabi said he has a gf. But I guess if he did, then the drama and love triangle would be as good as over lol and they need to give the second male lead at least a fair (ha!) chance to win Nabi's heart.

Really curious to see how they're going to cut out gyu hyun's scenes... thought they said they were going to start doing so in ep 7, but doesn't seem like that did. Guess they weren't able to since his scenes were pretty essential in moving the plot and JE along. A d what will happen to Bitna...?...will she essentially just get shafted? Kind of unfortunate for the actress.

And will we see more of Seol-A? Will she be the one to finally clear up the gf misunderstanding to Nabi?

Also, was it just me or did anyone else notice the callbacks to scenes from the beginning of the drama? It's kind of like a do-over. JE kneeling in front of Nabi in the ferris wheel like when they officially met at the gathering and she was sitting on the steps outside, when he picks something out of her hair, when Nabi says "this is the worst" after everyone left to play with fireworks and when she was sulking at her desk (the seaweed scene), and when JE is about to kiss her on the table, he says I won't do it if you don't want to vs. when he also says it in the scene where they have their first kiss. Wonder if this was done on purpose to show how JE has changed??

On JE not telling Nabi that SA is not his gf, I think it shows his reluctance of being in exclusive relationship. Does it matter that SA is his gf? Because even if she's not, he's still not wanting to commit into monogamous relationship.

Hate as I may of his predisposition, at least JE has always been honest and upfront in what he can and can not give in a relationship.

What if JE wants to see what Nabi's hard lines are? If he doesn't deny the girlfriend fact, Nabi still gets to think he DOES have one. Would she continue with JE despite knowing the fact he has a gf?
I think it gives him a power trip, knowing Nabi would cross lines repeatedly, even though she knows he's taken. At this point, I think he's capable of murdering puppies just to see if Nabi would ever say no to him. -_-

He won't explain about SA because that would be giving NB rights to ask about his personal life, they were always careful around these issues. Their entire game is based on power, and their relationships with other people are big pieces of this kind of power, because it would reveal much about them to each other.

Unless that guest house is called Mansari Temple, then istg, JE stalked Nabi and DH back to his inn. I was worried seeing his expressions darken. Will we really have a plot if JE was your standard players who's always detached, cool and uninvolved?

The staring-contest was really fun, and I chuckled to myself every time the camera jumped back and forth at the knowing/ anticipatory glances from our leads! DH and JE sizing each other up, was so funny!

When JE kneeled in the Ferris Wheel to Nabi... he had me for a minute there!.. It was so intense the way he said such a simple line. Bravo acting. On the re-watch, that was also so manipulative, how he waited out for the perfect moment to be in her space outside of people's view, i.e. the fraction of the ride when their car is at the very top of the Ferris Wheel. His 'player' game is *too* good!

Did the preview really hint as this?
JE: 'I saw someone so beautiful here, I fell in love at first sight'. Does he say this line at the gallery?... THE SAME GALLERY where Nabi's sculpture was displayed? EW.

Just watched Ep 8 preview. That's a confession, right!!??!

I have no problem with JE falling in love with NB at first sight, even if he saw the sculpture of 'Na Bi'. The sculpture was beautiful actually, but the problem was the artist's / ex-lover's exposure of NaBi without NaBi's consent. NaBi's ex-lover flagrantly publicized NaBi's sexuality, and NaBi was wholly unprepared.

The kneeling scene got me too. When I saw the pre-released photo still of that scene, I got super excited lol

Well, that was a disappointing episode. Many, many wistful gazes, outright 'I AM SO INTO YOU' stares, and sidelong glances of annoyance at 'rivals'. Not much plot progression, however.

Folks seem to be annoyed with JE for continuing his 'play' with NB, but I think he truly wants a relationship with NB. JE is just supremely clueless about how to be honest / forthright / wide open in relationships. On the other hand, NB is deeply distrustful of any guy even remotely similar to her ex-lover, as JE is somewhat similar with respect to supposedly 'seeing other people'.

I'm reminded of the opening lyrics to the IU song 'Jam Jam'

"Between people capable of knowing these things
Isn't it just manners to pretend to fall for such lies?"

Na-bi enjoys her sexual escapades but what's holding her back is the fear she will wind up like her pathetic man-hungry single parent mom. So Na-bi wants Jae-un to say all the 'pretty words' to make the relationship 'conventional'... so she can get back to having sex with him again.

wow. I think you nailed it. I wasn’t looking at it like that before but it makes total sense. And, I wonder if her fear of turning out like her mom is founded. I mean, if she keeps messing around with Jae-un, would she ultimately end up like her mother? Probably not (because she’s aware of it), but psychology it’d be hard untangle.

The way I take it, she started of the series with a 'what is love?' questions, which seems to be directly a result of observing how her mother treats relationships. Because she doesn't have a good r/l with her mom, she also has this deep-rooted desire of not wanting to turn out like her, almost as if she's better. Almost as if she herself can 'define' love unlike her mother, and pursue what she considers as 'love', thereby not ending up like her mother.

Before Jae-un came along there was the college professor, which is a red flag for Na-bi's behavior. Also, their break-up seemed less 'I've lost my love' and more 'let's stop playing this game'.

imo it's not really a decision between who is a "safer" bet for nabi. it's in the connection she has with the other person. and that man just happens to be jaeon. and yeah, their relationship started on sexual terms, but you also can't ignore the moments they connected through non-sexual activities (even if it were just at night and not publicly). regardless of whether they wanted to do it in secret or not, i think the intimacy of those moments just became stronger because of the privacy they had in one another. the emotional connection the two have are beyond the first-love history she has with dohyeok. as much as they both don't want to admit it, they understand one another. the only sucky thing about it is their communication—they keep on hesitating to speak their thoughts which make them have those misunderstandings. nabi ignoring dohyeok's call, pretty much tells who her heart really belongs to. and in the preview, i'm guessing the only reason she doesn't want to hurt dohyeok's feelings is because she still wants to be his friend. it still seems like nabi and jaeon are endgame which i'm all in for. i just kind of hope they clear the air with all the miscommunications they've had this far. the only reason it's been to toxic for them is because they can't seem to say what their hearts are screaming LOL

kinda sad that gyu hyun is getting cut because he was really deep in the storyline. i just hope the scenes they cut aren't crucial to the main leads. oh wells 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love all the angst of this episode! Just loving all the subversion of our expectations. Thinking about it, it doesn't hit any of your typical notes of a drama.

Na-bi and Jae-eon clearly want to be together. Is it "good" for them? I don't know. Maybe they will learn something and they will learn some lessons the hard way. In the preview, it seems like we might have Na-bi with Do-hyuk. He cares about her and she is probably going to date him because he seems like the right choice but not the one she really wants. If that's the case, I think she's just going to break his heart. Sometimes the heart wants what it wants...

The friend group! Oh my god! As I was watching this, I just kept thinking of all of the annoying "cool" people I knew in college who would engage in EXACTLY this kind of awful behavior. Get intoxicated, try to make everyone tell the "truth," and leave everyone feel awkward and some people feeling very vulnerable. They are all playing some really messed up games with each other. The scriptwriters are too accurate!

“Being on Team Potato is rough, not because I’m not used to SLS, but because it makes no sense in this story. Na-bi and Jae-un don’t really have a relationship beyond sex — and that very lack of emotional intimacy is what caused Na-bi to pull away from him in the first place. Does she think that will change so easily?”

It makes sense to me. Na-bi is drawn to Jae-un in a magnetic, chemical way that she can’t (or doesn’t want to) control because it feels good for a while. But, she understands that she’s miserable with the situation overall, and so, seeks out Do-hyuk because he’s the rational choice. Like missvictrix said at the beginning, it’s a choice between head and heart (or, between sex and a real relationship). Na-bi doesn’t think Jae-un will change (which is why she’s spending time with Do-hyuk), she just wishes (irrationally) that he will.

Someone in last week’s thread talked about Na-bi’s need for control, and to get Jae-un to like her (to be the one he chooses above others), to feed her ego. I think this is correct. She’s insecure and doesn’t realize she has power in this situation. I will be disappointed if these two end up together. I think the best thing for Na-bi is to get hurt again and then spend some time on her own, building herself up, so that she will want to go with rational choice relationship in the future.

I'm not sure NaBi wants 'control' so much as she wants to avoid being like her mother, passionately falling for one guy after another only to be hurt / dumped continually. NaBi's aunt is correct in that there is no reward without risk, and love / intimate, emotional relationships take courage. Finally, not all the consequences of those relationships are 'bad', e.g., you grow / learn something about yourself with each one, or in the extreme you could be gifted with a beautiful family / beautiful children.

This is one of those dramas I’d prefer to start from the tenth episode to avoid unnecessary headache. Three more weeks to go to start watching!

Three episodes is more than enough to say whatever there is to say about these two. They could easily just keep playing this mind game for a really long time, she teased us with chaos and offers only people lying to themselves and playing with others.

Really loving this drama the more episodes we get. The college setting and everyone's individual story lines has caught my attention. I honestly didn't think I'd get this invested, can't wait for next weeks episode. Check out my thoughts on ep3&4: https://bit.ly/3rT5M92

So the knives are out for yet another attractive and talented actor who will lose this part, and probably his livelihood because of ............SCANDAL!!!! Has anyone noticed that the person who was responsible for all the disgusting stories about Ji Soo has now admitted that they were all made up, and in fact he/she had never met him?? Too late, too late - his professional life is done for. And that brilliant girl who was the FL in Its OK to not be OK .......... the extremely private texts between her and an ex boyfriend, which could have been read in a number of ways, were interpreted as disadvantageously to her as possible. And a number of people who have worked with her say all the stories about her being a diva and unpleasant to everyone are a load of rubbish! Too late, too late, she's lost a lot of sponsorships and probably a lot of parts in dramas.

I shudder to think what this poor man has done! I just hope he isn't driven to suicide, which seems to happen quite often amongst Korean Glitterati.
