Drama viewership ratings for the week of Aug. 30-Sep. 5, 2021

We’ve just gotten into September and things are already looking a bit brighter. Two very different dramas premiered, the first being sageuk Lovers of the Red Sky. The drama came in strong with 6.6 percent, and the next day, pushed past Police University with 8.8 percent. It’s nice to see the Monday-Tuesday slot doing well these days.

The second drama to premiere was Human Disqualification, coming in with 4.2 percent. This is also nice to see, especially since this is Jeon Do-yeon and Ryu Joon-yeol’s first drama since 2016 (Jeon in The Good Wife and Ryu in Lucky Romance). Meanwhile, fellow weekender Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha cha-cha-ed its way to 8.7 percent this week.

Word has spread about HOMETOWN, which is not airing on one of the 'Big Three'.

tvN consistently outrates the Big Three.

That's quite true even more when u can't really compare the ratings at first glance as national and cable calculate different, basically it's even bigger that it looks...
tvN really made a reliable image on their drama slots so getting more and more love not to mention they constantly deliver great shows...

You are right- this is bigger than it looks.

Which is another way of saying that the Big Three really need to do some serious self-reflection. I sincerely hope that they wake up and do so.

So is it actually good or do you have to be gung Ho about the male lead to enjoy it?

It is really good- because the writer had to expand the original story, which was in a movie, by giving us more of the stories of the 'side characters' you absolutely do not have to be gung ho for either of the leads. They do not have to carry the show. Although I do like both leads here.

And... your point is?

Very simply this. Adam Smith's 'hidden hand' is operating the way it should: It is properly rewarding what is already a good show.

Simple. South korea is a free country. It is up to the producer, scriptwriter or director to come up or work with whatever channel they want or paid the most

The Road isn't getting much of an audience. It makes no concessions to its viewers, which I do not find a problem.

actually from what i read from kside they got discriminate by tvn

that slot usually aired drama at 10.30 pm but don't know why The Road is airing at 10.55pm. Not only that they always delay the airing time to 11 and something. It doesn't make noise because there's no younger audience

So, it is not because of the plot? I have to confess, I dropped it 30 mins into the first episode, but I noticed other beanies too dropping it in later episodes.

Lots have dropped it because of the plot - what I said above: it makes no concessions for its viewers. Even now, everyone seems guilty, everyone is suffering from guilt, and it is still difficult to know what has happened and why it happened. Not knowing doesn't bother me. It's a mystery, and I enjoy trying to figure out what's happening. But I guess most people don't like that extreme degree of uncertainty, even those in SK. But what @lackingfive is saying may be another reason.

I meant to check out The Road when it’s complete and glad to hear your ‘uncertainty’ theory as to why people drop out - that actually increases my interest. I’ve been wondering it it’ll be a role reversal here a la Misty. Will follow your eventual verdict, @jorobertson.

i'm not watching this but i don't think they have right to keep pushing back the airing time since first episode..and looking at how they got 3% at least means they have viewers

1

i don't think so because they keep doing that since first ep...that slot from previous dramas and upcoming drama 'Hometown' supposed to be at 10.30pm...only The Road got 10.50pm but they didn't exactly start at 10.50pm some eps got delayed to 11pm

@lackingfive and @epyc2010 I've just finished The Road and I have to say it turned out to be a horrible drama. Horrible people doing cowardly horrible things for the sake of their children. The unfolding of the mysteries took place in flashbacks that tended to be messy. I don't recommend it, I'm afraid. So disappointing. JJH was still great, but Yoon Se-ah as Seo Eun-soo looked inarticulately traumatised the whole drama as a very limited character. Frustrating to see.

Thanks! I am about to check out with you people if it’s worth it. Oh well, look forward to a next better drama for JJH.

It’s a waste of YSA who’s most mesmerizing as a strong and brainy woman.

Her character was barely convincing imo.

@epyc2010 it's even hard to tell yet if it will be a role reversal along Misty lines. I just like JJH and will watch him in anything. All the characters are dodgy, and so many conversations begin in the middle, so it constantly seems as if we're missing context. But pieces are being put in place, slowly ...

Yes, I’ll watch anything JJH in too LOL. If they could slowly piece things together, it’s worth the while.
