Drama viewership ratings for the week of Sep. 13-19, 2021

We have another batch of dramas in the mix, and they’re already showing promising results. On Friday, Namgoong Min drama The Veil premiered to 7.2 percent and then, the following day, jumped to 8.0 percent. Also on Friday, both One the Woman and Yumi’s Cells premiered, to 8.2 percent and 2.1 percent respectively.

We also had a few dramas wrap up. Hospital Playlist 2 finished off with 14.1 percent, the highest rating of the season. (Coincidentally, the first season’s highest rating was also 14.1 percent.) Then, weekend drama Revolutionary Sisters finished its 50-episode run on a good note, after consistently high ratings. With these shows gone, we’ve got even more on the way.

korean unemployment data is good this time around and here is good presence in ratings all around!!?
weekend's rich with its quirk has more onto weekday's rich.
JTBC - how long you gonna take this path? You already have enough data to guess where the wind is blowing. Its all question about quality vs. money now.

Isn’t The Veil airing on Fridays and Saturdays? Why is it listed here as Wednesdays and Thursdays?

Also, I feel like some channels need to rethink their strategy in timing:
1) on Mon-Tue: SBS airs its show on 10pm, which clashes with both KBS (9.30pm) and tvN (10.30pm) … wouldn’t sticking to one of the other timeslots give you less competition?
2) on Sat-Sun: JTBC airs its show on 10.30pm, which clashes with MBC/SBS Fri-Sat (10pm) as well as tvN Fri-Sat (10.50pm) … this one is worst, especially when tvN is just avoiding everyone with its timing of 9pm on Sat-Sun … JTBC can switch out 3 competitors for one!

But maybe there’re reasons why, I guess?

The Veil is Friday-Saturday why does Dramabeans think its on Wednesday-Thursday? The weekend timeslot is overcrowded and the mid week is sparse. Did everyone run away from mid week because of Trot? KBS is restarting its traditional saeguk timeslot on the weekends come December which will bring the tally to almost 6 dramas airing on the weekends. How does anyone think that is a good idea? Which brings me to the question why does tvN think airing a romcom at 10:50 on a weekend is a good idea? Another thing why has JTBC abandoned Monday-Tuesday and shifted from Friday-Saturday to Saturday-Sunday? Not seeing the logic here.

On a happier note MBC is finally out of the ratings rut for the first time in almost 4 years.

I don't understand scheduling. SBS has had success on Fri-Sat so MBC and tvN want in on the action, which just means more competition. MBC is really banking on The Veil, but it seems like there should be other timeslots available. The tvN Fri-Sat timeslot just seems set up for failure.

It is set up for failure and to put a romcom in that slot is bonkers. MBC put all its eggs in one basket and for now its working The Veil is solid but I would not bank on that timeslot for the long run. Assuming MBC wants to keep making dramas beyond next year.

So Hometown Cha Cha Cha ratings drop this week is not really surprising. The show has nothing to offer except for 2 good looking leads and a side of ahjuma characters.
This show is just another rehash of Crash Landing on You and When the Camellia Blooms - stories revolving around the leads and their village people. The only difference is that the characters of the other two shows were much better written and had likable qualities and most importantly, very capable top notch leads.

A viewer could fast forward scenes or even skip several episodes with this current show and not really miss anything.

True. One thing though aren't slice of life dramas typically like this though? It's not about the story, but more about the characters and their daily interactions. The drama was promoted as one, so I wasn't surprised per say. Plus, rom-coms typically are mostly fluff. So I think this has a bit more substance and has good heart imo. Its a very human drama, and I dig it. I also keep in mind that its 16 episodes so there probably don't want to put all their eggs in a basket rn. I do agree that the story will need to pick up more so viewers (domestic) don't drop the show going till the end. It would be a shame for a show that hit double digits last week, to tread downwards.

Isn't the rating decrease due to upcoming Chuseok festival? In google, I read there is public holiday in SK from Monday to Wednesday, so a long weekend might mean people go on trips/have special gatherings/preparations for the festival etc.

Anyhow, next week ratings will tell us the exact reason.

I think Sunday's ratings likely decreased due to people travelling or whatever for Chuseok. Sunday's variety shows had big drops.

I dropped both Crash Landing on You and When the Camellia Blooms. Got bored out of my mind.

I'm loving this one so far. Each episode gets me more invested, and I just find the whole show charming and really funny.

I don't really understand the comment regarding the plot. Basically all romances are the same. The "plot" is only a pretext. As long as there's charm and alchemy between the characters, it just works.

Anyway, this show is the only one I'm waiting eagerly each week. Going through difficult stuffs in my life right now and chachacha is a breath of fresh air.

Sure, in romance dramas, plot may be pretext and chemistry can help you overlook other elements.

HOWEVER....DB itself is almost a record of the long litany of SK dramas with great leads (with chemistry) that circled the drain for poor plot.

SK drama is full of promising starts but once plot re-writes the rational...or worse, undermines the very chemistry itself - it's done. At some point we all have that point where we can't un-see pointless, random, or intelligence insulting...and chemistry wont save it at that point.

Originally I thought THE VEIL might be a pass for me when I saw those NGM ‘caveman’ pics. However, the NGM charm seems to be doing its magic. I will begin watching tonight.

It's his Daesang to lose (MBC Awards). If that occurs, NGM join's Ji Sung, as actors in rect memory getting both Daesangs at MBC/SBS Awards. Such good company, I'm surprised these two aren't friends in rl. I feel like they're the go to actors for dependability for dramas.
