Flames and explosions galore in OCN’s latest mystery-thriller Chimera

The first teaser for Chimera was just released, featuring Park Hae-soo (Squid Game), Soo-hyun (a.k.a. Claudia Kim) (Monster), and Lee Hee-joon (Mouse). The thriller-mystery drama is about serial killings that begin again after a 35-year hiatus.

Park Hae-soo, Soo-hyun, and Lee Hee-joon play, respectively, a violent crimes police detective, a criminal behavioral profiler, and a surgeon. The three come together to pursue the truth behind the killings. The teaser opens with Park Hae-soo in formal police attire paying his respects to a deceased colleague. The voiceover explains a chimera: “A phenomenon where one individual contains two different DNA codes.” A car explodes in an act of arson, and onscreen copy reads: “The monster has awoken!”

Soo-hyun examines clues on the ground, while in another cut, a man raises a glass to a mythological chimera spray-painted on a wall. We see a shadowy figure in a bucket hat, and then Kang Shin-il (Police University) screams into his phone: “Who are you?!” Woo Hyun (Racket Boys) laughs sinisterly in his police uniform, right before we cut to another car explosion. Onscreen copy asks: “Who is the chimera?”

Someone reveals a painting with a tortured pope on a throne. Next, the shadowy figure in the bucket hat slowly lowers his mask, as someone in a car claims that he’s the real chimera. The next scene shows a fiery gang fight, as Lee Hee-joon looks at Park Hae-soo. Lee Hee-joon’s voiceover says, “You don’t believe me anyway,” and he yells at someone to shoot. Soo-hyun is strangled by an unknown person, another car explodes, and Lee Hee-joon looks distraught. The teaser ends with a man being shocked by a page of the Bible (opened to 2 Peter 3:10) being set aflame.

Directed by Kim Do-hoon (The Moon That Embraces the Sun), OCN’s Saturday-Sunday drama Chimera will begin airing on October 30.

This was filmed so long ago. Looks like they are burning it off now, hoping Park Hae-soo's turn in Squid Game throws a few eyeballs its way.

Maybe it’s just the presence of Lee Hee-joon, but this seems very similar to Mouse.

I really like Park Hae-soo. I first noticed him in "The Legend of the Blue Sea" (... not a fan of Lee Min-Ho...) and then totally fell in love with him in "Prison Playbook". He was also fun to watch in a movie called "By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture".

I just might give this a try!
