Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

My grandparents recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary and this Sunday my parents and I are hosting the garden party for our whole family. It might be the last time to have everyone gathered together like this, and it has been a few years since I spoke to some relatives. I am very excited to see everyone again and make beautiful memories, but there are also some worries.

First of all, hosting is stressful, especially when you are not the party type. Then there is also the exhaustion. We have been getting little sleep with all the preparations, so I hope I will still be a human by Sunday😂 Another worry is the amount of people and my mental health. The party is corona proof, but it is my first time in a bigger crowd ever since the pandemic started, and on top of that there is also my agoraphobia ever since my mental health declined. So I hope that the idea of having all these people at my place will not trigger anything.

My main worry however, are the K-dramas. I cannot watch anything this weekend and of course Homecha showed an interesting preview and I am already behind on other shows as well!😤😆

We had four couple over last weekend and I was whipped for days after it. Just seeing people, doing all the prep and talking for hours drained my batteries. I kept telling myself that, like a short story, every experience has a beginning, a middle and an end. Try to take a few deep breaths and savor. Waking up on Monday morning will be fantastico!

I'm keeping up with weather updates on open post -

September usually isn't like that - not gonna talk about the logic about it but light with less bite, temperature hovering around 31 and not humidity not being high - it still feels hot - You body isn't sweating but your chest feels uneasy - Its not about your health - as everyone else feels the same. Clear skies and then clouds pop up - more clouds and then clear sky - you can feel the cool air but its still hot.

Tough month and days - You not expect much rain but its raining hard around your region - then clouds popup - Its rains but for a few minutes and then you have clear sky - next day almost the same - few days later same. Even rain is hard this time.

2020 weather and 2021 weather have such varied difference. And both have lot more to differ with Earlier time.

Overall - rain - yeah - good i like weather this way.

This is why i want to spend months in places where it rains the most.
Its in india
Sohra - India - what percertage of days it rains?
Mawsynram - india - Number of days you can have rain shower?

Not expecting much infrastructure at those 2 places as well as lack of drinking water. Its funny 2 places where it rains the most have water scarcity problems.

Talihood has learned good tricks from all over the world. They really are 2.0. If propaganda with some muscle power can get you through then why need to spill the blood? They have upskilled themselves in last few years. This is what is in play for present as well as future - What you can't see, can't describe either.
This is what it has become - Text and words not move heart as much now compared to pictures and videos. Visual medium has clearly taken a lead.

So female s at forefront of another protest is equally strong medium of fight. Its all a gameplay now. Loser always is a common man.
People who are privileges enough to not be at receiving end become commentators. ofcourse, i'm also one of them.

I know Korean networks' licensing deals and costs have dramatically changed since the rise of new markets and platforms like streaming services (both local and international). But when I flip through my cable channel abyss, KBS America shows some random, out-of-the blue shows. Recently, KBSA has been showing episodes of "Worlds Within" from 2008. I realize that it only shows a few current dramas, but running 13 year old episodes is strange.

Worlds Within was odd but kind of great and it’s hard to find! I recommend it especially for the group of older actresses including Oscar winner Youn Yeo-Jung. She is hilarious.

Having a kdrama festival at home catching up on older classics. MY GIRL was first - now I see why Hong Sister dramas don't inspire universal love. Although it was cute at first. Now doing FIGHT FOR MY WAY which is very fun, but episode 10 is usually when rom-coms start losing altitude so I'm holding my breath. Next comes LEGEND OF THE BLUE SEA, followed by THE PRODUCERS, and finally OH MY VENUS. Rom-coms and melodramas are the most accessible to non-Koreans I think because love and family are universal, but I would like to get out of my rom-com rut, so would appreciate recommends for other genre dramas that don't require a heavy background in politics/history/etc.

'The Producers' got a bum rap when it aired because the Korean public weren't used to the 'mocumentary' style of 'the Office'. Its a funny series that holds up over time, and it doesn't hurt that everyone involved are now big stars.

I never got into The Producers, possibly because I didn’t get a lot of the jokes, but I really enjoyed the cameos that I did get.

Watched The Producers the first time without ever having see any K-variety shows. After the first season of House on Wheels ended, I started watching 2 Days 1 Night. Hubby calls it the Shouting Show.
Now, as I re-watch Producers, I understand so much more (but still don't get all the real insider stuff}.

I might try it again sometime - last time I watched the first couple of episodes, didn’t get into it and skipped to Lee Seung gi’s cameo 🙈 before giving up. I think it was before I started watching kvariety so it might work better for me now.

I don't know how old something needs to be to be considered "classic" but good slightly older non-rom-coms include Evasive Inquiry Agency (hard to define but awesome), Lucifer and Forest of Secrets/Stranger (both thrillers), White Christmas (high school horror/thriller), Liar Game (Korean version), School 2013 and The Queen's Classroom (both school dramas). Forest of Secrets does get into political issues, especially in it's second season, but none of these require much background in history, politics, etc.. If you want a great older romance I'd recommend Ruler of Your Own World - it's wonderful.

I really like FIGHT MY WAY, it doesn’t fall off as badly as many do.

For an older (Hong Sisters) rom com I recommend The Greatest Love/Best Love. It’s good all the way through and I love it.

Queen of Mystery 2017 Starring Kwon Sang Woo and Choi Kang Hee

Yoo Seol Ok has always wanted to become a police officer for her entire life. One day, she gets to know a passionate detective. And, he gives her an opportunity to make her dream come true. They work on mysterious cases together.

I liked it because the cast had phenomenal chemistry but there wasn't any romance.

There is also a season 2.

Chief Kim (comedy, corporations corruption, but it is not boring); prison playbook (dark comedy, life in prison, but not boring), mother (sensitive themes, a little bit dark and sad, but amazing message), 365,-repeat the year (thriller, very very exciting), avengers social club (I would say it is a comedy... Very exciting too), my unfamiliar family (I would say a little bit of Melo done right), pegasus market (comedy, very funny), misaeng (slice of life, wonderful cast), and finally: "my Ajusshi" (there is love, but you cannot say it is romantic. Plus, it is the best kdrama ever).
I hope my list can help you.
Have fun!

The three Work trifecta shows:
Chief Kim for its good versus evil back and forth;
How Stove League for its office realism; and
Pegasus Market for its absurd business comedy.

Well since youth and school dramas crossover with most genres, but are still their own, I present to you, The Dysfunctional Teenagers Master Genre (from least dark, to dark):
Sassy Go Go
Shut Up: Flower Boy Band
White Christmas
Extracurricular

Slice of Lifes that are neither full melo or romcom: both AOYs and The Reply Series.

Fantasy/ Horror:
Mystic Pop Up Bar
Sell Your Haunted House
Arang and the Magistrate (slower, older, campier, but still)
Kingdom (1,2, and spinoffs)

Other:
Healer most definitely, unless you think that's still too romcom or melo I guess. I think it balances all its parts nicely.
I Remember You- thriller
Lookout- action.

I WANT to recommend Tree With Deep Roots, but it unfortunately would be best enjoyed imo, with SOME political or historic background. I am unsure how well going into it blind would go.
I'll save some of the more classic reccs for other people.

Big doings in K-pop world recently. I won't mention anyone by name but *someone* just released her first album since changing agencies. If all you know of k-pop is high profile boy and girl groups you're missing out on the multi-faceted joys of K-pop soloists and combos.

I just finished binge watching Coffee Prince last night. I find that the real challenge for a show is whether it keeps my interest after the leads get together WITHOUT the usual break up trope. I thought the show did that very well even though I had a hard time with the FL at times and found the ending not quite satisfying. I loved seeing young Kim Jae-wook and Kim Dong-wook shine. It's not quite making it into my top 10 as I found myself fast forwarding in many places. My special shows have me wishing for more time with them, not skipping scenes.

It seems that my life is watching shows, waiting for THE show. And that's ok. At least, 18 months into it, I'm now capable of dropping a show that doesn't do anything for me. The latest one was "Must You GO." Happy weekend!

Started playing Terroir (wine making tycoon game on stream) ironically just after my vacation ended.

On one hand enjoying the reduced heat and on the other, realizing winter is too close. Its great tho seeing more teasers and premieres being released.

Hello All..
I am on DB after 2-3months may be... life wasn't easy at all.. had very rough 2 months.
But God helped me thru all that.. also gave me chance to edit some of most memorable works of my life so far... edited one teaser for a brand's 5 year completion.. and then got to edit music videos (which was THE BIGGEST DREAM of my life)...
and I feel God tested me how much I loved my work by overburdening me with stress and work....

And as always dramas help me cope... Hometown Cha Cha Cha... KSH was never this charming ever before. I absolutely love, adore him here.

Lovers in red sky.. what a Grand show this is. LOVED the whole premises. hope it gets better.

Hello all:
Tis the season in which I anthropomorphize sunflowers, especially the giant mammoths that once loomed so high above all their peers yet now -- sadly downcast, their heads hung low-- are humbled while their humbler counterparts can still look out toward the sun. I like the crispness of fall but i hate that dread i feel when fall comes. I don't like being stuck inside and battling cold and snow when i go outside.

Dramas:
Hometown Cha Cha: I'm getting the feeling that the writer is playing with tropes. Especially true love tropes and what makes or does not make a true love. Or "what exactly do we want of a second-lead rival? What constitutes the right relationship for a character?". I could be wrong but i wonder if our divorced couple weren't meant to be married at all but somehow Ex-wife got into the mix. We can pretty much guess that her former husband ruined their marriage because he was in love with his first love. But was his continued love for his first love a case of true love or a case of him being unable to forget the past (like a certain old music star.) On one hand Ex-wife might not have been the right one to marry. She might have tricked her former hubby or pursued him as second lead women often do... or gotten pregnant or been used as a rebound one-night-stand or got pregnant. On the other hand, she might just be an innocent victim of a guy who lives in the past and can't move on. This makes me wonder about the PD, who is also a kind of possible true love. So who is second lead? And who "should" get the love of our heroine?

Police University: I like it but it's vaguely boring for some reason. I understand that the movie wants to show us what police work is, and to honor police but the teaching is done badly.

Lovers of the Red Sky: Who knew i wanted evil shaman and even eviller trapped demons in a sageuk?

Tragedy of One: I was so loving the evil folks in this drama and then it took a turn i didn't want it to take. The killer of our little innocent victim. I wasn't offended about who the killers turned out to be, but i liked the idea of the grieving parent being unrelated to the child except through love. There is some heavy cynicism in this story and i'm glad our hero has some good noble folks in his workplace. Heck, his PD seems to be the only good adult in the story.

Not much else happening. Trying to find a good Cdrama. Keep safe, all. -C
