A lot of baggage to unload this week:

1. Disney has decided to try to catch up to Netflix in Korean content. Disney + expects to add 50 Korean produced shows to its streaming service within the next year. A slate of 10 programs will be offered at the start, including “Outrun by Running Man," the spin-off of the SBS TV variety show. This is a terrible idea. The original show is still in its prime. Originally, it was said no cast members but in the final press release the new show will star three members of the show's original cast: Kim Jong-kook, Haha and Jee Seok-jin, This is also a bad idea. This really dilutes the original show’s chemistry and vision.

2. And speaking of bad ideas, the blood-fest series THE VEIL is set to get its own spin off series, a prequel starring Park Ha-Sun and Kim Jong-Tae. This has to be a harsh pivot from the negative viewer reaction of the series quickly killing off the co-FL for little plot purpose. If you cannot create a full back story of your main characters in the original 12 episodes, you have a weak writing foundation that is not cured by creating an even worse addition to the story the structure.

3. PROBLEM CHILD IN THE HOUSE continues to work exceptionally well as a talk show. In the last episode, the stars of the new KBS weekender, “Young Lady and Gentlemen” were guests. It is a predictable premise: Lee Young-Kook (Ji Hyun-Woo) is a widower with three children. He still hasn’t gotten over the death of his wife. He decides to hire Park Dan-Dan (Lee Se-Hee) as a live-in tutor for his kids and he becomes attracted to her. Meanwhile, Park Dan-Dan has bright and positive personality despite her harsh situation. Strong supporting cast includes Park Ha-Na, Oh Hyun-Jyung, Cha Hwa-Yeon, Lee Whee-Hyang, and Lee Il-Hwa. Lee Se-Hee's appearance on the show, with her bubbly and playful personality, reminded me of current A-list actresses in their mid 20s. She auditioned for a minor role in the series but surprisingly was cast as the lead. She could become the Daughter of KBS, a fixture in their future drama series. I really did not want to start another weekender, but I may have to check this one out.

4. My KBS America cable channel continues to show out-of-the-blue drama re-runs. It just started to air SCHOOL 2013 starring Jang Na Ra who looked like a teenager in her role as a teacher (in reality she was 31 years old). It is remarkable that she does not age at all!

These days every no-name anon is consider themselves big influence - Its writer's world - they have every right to decide who is main and who is an extra. Rating isn't half bad - writer has the leverage to be arrogant against such delusional creatures.

I was surprised Disney+ got Snowdrop. I already knew they got Forest of Secret writer's next project. I don't want to subscribe to yet another streaming service but it appears inevitable. I wonder how long until they produce their own k-dramas?

I don't think a Running Man spinoff is a bad idea in and of itself, but when I first heard about it, I expected them to cast younger celebrities who could be more physical. The original cast is older and has so many injuries that they don't do the name tag races much anymore. They could have put the run back in running man, but I guess they don't want to do that. That's what makes it a bad idea IMO.

Yes, RM has toned down the physical aspects of the show. But then again, a few years ago the Chinese version, Chase Me, was taking physical endurance to an extreme when Taiwanese actor Godfrey Gao died while filming the reality show.

I remember reading about that. I think his death should have been prevented. If that happened here in the US, I'm sure the family would have sued for wrongful death.

Does Snowdrop being on Disney mean that it will never come to Viki? I just don't want to add another service to watch a few Kdramas.

Not a huge fan either of yet another streaming service obtaining exclusive rights to Asian content, especially since Disney has always been such a problematic company in general. Uggh.

These not rainy - cold morning an evenings are good and preparing your for the cold season ahead.
And what's the price of anything Energy related? - demand+supply is in disarray and all these all rallying high and high. I was surprised to see Natural Gas prices on stock exchange. That was that but what about other related instruments. woah. Demand is so good that even a novice would have turned all it into good profit.

Financially week was chaos but i like the move chaotic it is and i came above as loser. heh. 75% makes you a loser when you missed the 4 times more aka more than 500% in return. You were counting few and left the jackpot escape right in front of your eyes. You were waiting for this moment alone - and when the moment teased you a little bit - you lost direction and you were kind of desperate for green than you couldn't fathom some red. That outcome of lack of patience is missing the jackpot. jackpot of a weak that was cashed in half an hour.
I've myself seen a few common folks cashing these jackpots once every month but don't know why i'm unable to cash anything at all.

I had said it before too - female traders have it in them - sister was all in for the jackpot but i waiting for days made me lose interest and i threw the jackpot and she did got 120% - still anything below 3 times or less than 300% is loser - when the jackpot itself was worth 575% plus.

As said last week - 1 more leader has been taken care of. How many left? You can't do XI or putin. Duterte came with good - with daughter. That's what i had said in 2020 about Trump's daughter too - You prepare them by keeping them close to you. Let them have some experience of administration as well as political system. We have ex-soviet country's father-daughter pair too(poor, small states so ignore)

I like daughters over sons. You often see mother-son pairs in human history but there do have a few father-daughter pair. successful but not the ones that have left much mark.
From logical point of view - a female candidate is slightly better than having a male candidate - all of the rest depends upon how you nourish and educate them.
Once you are in the game you never get out of the game - You have to prepare your frontrunner too.

In Chinese dramas we do get to see a few female candidates - That's also come from history. so good.
Right now we have a half-boy fictional female candidate fighting against her father+siblings+sister-in-law for the all over control. Enjoy it. A daughter's job is never too easy.

In political world mental+physical health is a big concern. It always become big. And its universal - especially important where top position has the most powers centralised(and that too in a democracy - heh). You can navigate around physical health - most leaders always did - it never became too bothersome as they had the best medical facilities available.

But, mental aspect is completely a different thing. You experience it in fictional dramas of Asian land all the time. Its very crucial. As soon as you make a visit to the doctor - your image takes a big hit - Everyone considers you unreliable - and put question mark over your mental capacity. By attacking your brain they have attacked all of your identity. that you can't even make decisions, lave alone making right-or-not ones. This is why This strategy is often played in real political life.
Never take things too easy anytime - delusional minds works.

Waow, this morning, on the first page of the newspaper, there was an article about how schools were monitoring if there was a rise in violence in the playgrounds caused by Squid Game. The age limit didn't work...

I would never imagine that KDrama will be a reason for violence in playgrounds in Switzerland... What a weird world...

In many other countries too, apparently. But I don't think Squid Game in itself is a particularly bad influence. If it isn't so easily accessed online and hadn't been such a huge hit, kids would probably have found some other reason to beat each other up.

I was at a 7 year olds birthday party today where the kids were playing Red Light, Green Light. But it was actually Red Light, Green Light (no murder or violence 😅 ) ..still it’s amazing how it filters down to the kids.

My first week with Viki, and predictably, given my difficulty making decisions, went into a tailspin over the choices. Good comments last week from Beanies, so I watched A PIECE OF YOUR MIND. I like Jung Hae In, love Brahms, and I like slow dramas, so expected to love this. But sorry to say, I’m in the anti-fan group with this one. Slow is OK if it has a strong story, strong writing, and two lead actors with chemistry. I’LL SEE YOU WHEN THE WEATHER IS FINE is slow and thoughtful, and succeeds. I don’t think APOYM does. Next I turned to a list I found on Buzzfeed and started ENCOUNTER, starring Park Bo Gum at the peak of adorableness, opposite statue on loan from a wax museum Song Hye Kyo. That’s a not nice thing to say! Well, she does show emotions later on. The drama is slick, classy, and predictable, and so far hasn’t gone off the rails. We'll see.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

After months of calling into work with few issues, I figured I could try to stress less about it this time. Of course my boss picked this opportunity to interrogate me about my sick leave diagnosis and to shame me as soon as I politely declined to give any details about it. The phone call barely lasted 2 minutes, but it lasted long enough to ruin my day. I got another panic attack and spent the rest of the day on the sofa in utter misery.😰

It all feels like a cruel joke from the universe. Right when I was tentatively taking steps every day to get better and starting to feel hopeful about recovery, my mental health gets catapulted back into the ancient pre-therapy days.🙁

Panic attack or not, my recovery continues. I am still leaving the house every day to battle agoraphobia and my therapy challenges are taking place as planned. The current exhaustion and paranoia make things a lot harder, but that should pass as soon as I am better!💪

Ugh, I’m so sorry that happened to you. All your successful steps will pay off and this reaction will definitely be temporary but I hate that it feels like forever when it happens. Again, ugh. You are working so hard and I congratulate you, you are the definition of “Fighting!”, Turtie!
In the meantime, I read this article (which I was sure would be stupid) and was actually quite helpful to me and helped me wake up in a good mood today. Maybe you will like it too.

You are already doing great Turtie. Going out while fighting agoraphobia is commendable enough, calling your office too is good and it may not seem that way rn but talking to your boss is too. Your boss dared to do it and bother you this time, but clearly you will develop resistance to her after this. We can't really change others but just work on ourselves and you are already doing great (seriously! This is coming from someone who hasn't been out for long so you fighting agoraphobia daily is a big step).

Turtally, I commend you for your courage in holding a job while dealing with agoraphobia. I know how difficult it can be to just leave the house; I battled this for years and am now in recovery. It can be done, it's just really hard. The wrong therapist can make it worse; I hope you're seeing a good one. What helped me most was having to put food on the table for two kids; they gave meaning and purpose to my life at the time. Don't forget to always have hope for yourself..

Thank you for your kind words, I do have a good therapist fortunately. I am actually on a long sick leave, but since I have to keep extending my leave, I need to alert them about that once a month. They are not taking that very well. That aside I am luckily regaining hope for better days ahead.💪

Hey TurtuallySarcastic,
Living with mental illness is hard and I know Panic Attack Disorder is no fun. I used the book 'When Panic Attacks' along with going to a psychologist. It really helped me.

The best advice I can give from my experience is to create small goals (ie. eat 3 meals a day, and sleep - which is all i did for a whole month), and to journal to track trigger patterns/accomplishments. I kept my journal simple with happy/meh/unhappy faces to sum up each day, and jot notes.

Incorporating the outdoors was also key. At first I couldn't go outside, so I just stared out the window watching squirrels fight, or I would open the window to just breathe in some fresh air for 10 mins. I also had to do breathing exercises, which helped me to learn to avoid my anxiety from escalating into a panic attack.

One curious thing that was also part of my recovery was watching the Anime, Bleach. I really connected with the inner battle Ichigo faced.

I pray that you are able to easily and quickly overcome this challenging time inshAllah.

What's up with the white pants of DINNER MATE? Who, in their right mind who does their own laundry, ever wears white pants? It's insanity.

This conundrum is seriously affecting my watching experience. Is the stylist living at home with his or her parents? Does s/he spend the evening hunched over the sink with bleach-worn hands, crying "damn you, pesto!" ? Is curry forever black-listed? The stress, argh!!
I really like DINNER MATE and especially the performance of Lee Ji-hoon but the white pants will haunt me for a long time.

Enjoy your weekend white-pant free, beanies!

I found this soap by chance and got the tip to use some when washing clothes instead of detergent. I haven't tried that on a larger scale, but having toddlers who are great with producing stains of various kinds, I've tried it when hand washing clothes with fabulous results. It's from Lush and called bohemian. Quite expensive, but easy on the skin.

@lillamy thanks! I would never have thought it was a Lush product. I will try it!

White pants wearer here! Actually,I like white items (I've got jackets, shirts, t-shirts, sweaters, socks, even white cloth trainers) because you can wash it at high temperatures, and easily attack stains with bleach/oxygel if you can't get them away by other means.
If it's food, any dishwasher usually does the trick when used right before the stain dries up. I also keep a piece of Marseille soap and a scrub handy, and just attack the stains I can locate before getting things into the washing machine.
But the tell you the truth, I kept all my white items away for years while my kids had cute grubby little hands and spilling accidents happened on a daily basis... Denim pants are a lot more forgiving 😁

Been thinking about this for a while but isn’t “confession” (i.e. saying I love/like you) a mistranslation?
If I think about it carefully it should be “profession”, right?

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

To profess, I think, is closely related to making a statement or a claim to something. So, if you were to climb some walls and profess your love of something or someone, that might be an accurate use of the word. However, the word profession might also be connected to a false claim, so it doesn't feel appropriate even if it's not wrong per se.

A confession is a reveal of truth, and usually a somewhat uncomfortable truth to speak loudly of and so it's probably considered more accurate in cases telling someone how you feel about them.
