Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin are mulling offers to star in a very high budget K-drama rom-com set in space called “Ask the Stars.” It is touted as the highest budget k-drama in history with a budget between $36-42 million (US). It will be written by the writer of “Pasta” and “Jealousy Incarnate.”

KeyEast, while more known for their lineup of 28 actors and actresses, is also a drama production company who will be handling this series. You might recall that KeyEast Entertainment refused to pay the compensation fees in regards to the the damages that was caused by their actor, Ji Soo, who was starring in “River Where the Moon Rises,” when Victory Contents sued Ji Soo and his agency after the actor was dropped from the series due to his school bullying scandal.

With the international success of Korean dramas, new series are under pressure to put movie quality set design and original stories like Squid Games onto the small screen. To be honest, most actors will go to where the big budget payroll is . . . but big budgets cannot guarantee critical success.

The production budget gap between a regular Korean series (>$1 million/episode) vs. a big budget series (<$3 million/.episode) will continue to divert big stars to deep pocket streaming channels and less productions and story values for normal network channel shows. I think the quality divide is coming quicker than expected.

I agree that a quality divide is coming but at the end of the day, the story is more important than budget. As an example, Work Later, Drink Now, which has neither big names nor a big budget, has been a surprise hit for TVING.

Cricket is too much this week. Few months back it was talk about racist acts and attitude. Few weeks back i talked about it and this week it went all action - Well let's see how Cricket England gonna deal with it.

And then we have Ashes - hey you buddy - Captain's sexting is in news today. Ashes is already spiced up and everyone should be ready for banter come loud foul language from spectators.

As for news political news USA is having Cricket world cup matches in 2024-25. yep yep yep.

Few months back i talked about how 2023 world cup will turn out as political campaign and here we have the next goal from cricket's side.
Cricket gems a bit too well with politics - Don't believe me but wait for 2023 world cup and later elections from 2 different countries aka so called democracies.

You carry the fight in opposition - make the atmosphere so hot that the points that matter get ignored but what is trivial becomes important. You change he game from what is right or not to where you stand

Less confusion - more confidence - You are on path to victory.

Its the enemy side that needs to be confused - the more -ve they are,the more they loss the confidence, the more they make errors, and your march goes on. You get the benefits.

That's easy politics for you all. Human world is very fickle and so are audience aka customer aka voters "the fickle minds".

It's not 'sexting', it's sexual harassment. Repeatedly sending a woman unsolicited sexual texts and dick pics despite her asking you to stop is harassment pure and simple.

Am off duty this week Decided to re watch HEALER... Wow I remember why I was so crazy about it when it aired, it's still as amazing as before, the ost, Ji chang wook. cried in some scene And I started reading the recaps and it's 1000/10000 comments, wow it brings back memories.. my complain is still the same as before the ending feels rushed they should have extended it for like 30mins more

Might re watch marriage not dating again..

I started NWABU, I can see why Song Hye kyo acting was receiving criticism, she's really bad there was one scene that felt that she was an AI, so droping it.

Red sleeve cut so far so good I like it Junho is good and the child actors I like

Melancholia the maths is killing me but am going to stay for Lee dohyun

Kings Affection I like how it ended ( Imagine my shock when I found out it was 20ep, I kept on thinking it was 16, my brain might have clocked out when checking out the no of ep)

Search:WWW it's was okay for me, but the romance killed it for me, they kept dragging it, but I loved Scarlet's romance with the actor, it got to a stage I was more interested in the drama they were playing inside the drama, it was much more interesting

Royal secret inspector Joy I still haven't gotten the hang of it yet but will continue cause Ok Taecyeon

Hellbound imma watch it 2maoa, I hate watching scary drama in the night... So excited

I am glad that after almost 7 years since its premiere HEALER has held up for you. It is the drama that brought me into kdrama land in 2016.

Also coming attractions. Both HEALER’s Park Min-young and Kim Mi-kyu (the iconic Jo Min-ja) and Song Kang (who was terrific in NAVILLERA) are cast together in the upcoming JTBC drama METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY PEOPLE: THE CRUELTY OF OFFICE ROMANCE:
https://mydramalist.com/692969-office-romance-cruelty

So why not a drama (from MDL):
“About the work and love lives of people who work at the Korea Meteorological Administration, Korea’s national weather forecast service.”
(Perhaps we can look forward to one zombie-less drama next year.)

Yup the first leads' romance in Search:WWW was truly the least interesting part of the show. The other couples were so much more interesting and like you said Lee Da Hee and Lee Jae Wook were just adorable. Also somebody really needs to make an IRL "What's Wrong With My Mother-in-Law" 🤣

Like how the hell did a 68 year old mother in law became so fine.. wow the power of plastic surgery and the ending wow have got words for it.. it was the best part of the drama.. was so invested in it like Lee Dahee

I rewatched Healer at the beginning of the year and I was surprised that I liked it even more than when I had first watched it over 5 years ago. I actually changed my rating for it from 8.5 to 9 out of 10.
The ending is indeed a bit too rush. It’s one of those rare dramas that could have used one more episode.

Last week watched MORE THAN FRIENDS (2020). Would have been perfect if they had cut about 12 episodes out. It got me thinking about estrangement between imperfect but good enough people . Things you said or did when you were depressed or angry that you now regret , and now you cast around for some way of turning things in a different direction. You want to make amends, you want to reach out after years of ignoring each other, but you wonder, do they even care anymore, would they be interested, are they even the same person now as they were back then? If you reached out, would they ignore you, hurt you all over again by shrugging? The primary relationship in the drama ends in an ambiguous way, but isn’t that how it is in real life? You muddle thru, do the best you can. When the main way of dealing with conflict is avoiding it, there's less pain now, but it will go on forever.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

I called into work to extend my sick leave yesterday, and as by miracle the boss was in a good mood and did not pester me or yell at me this time!🎉They say not to look a gift horse in the mouth, so let’s just enjoy the temporary peace, shall we?😇My schedule and wallet respectfully disagree. They kept quiet a few weeks for my mind’s sake, but there are errands to run and necessary items to pay for now that November is ending and December is inching closer.💰 I am preparing a bargain for schedule as we speak, since I would like to finally finish some unfinished K-dramas so that I can start watching new stuff. I am not even going to bother negotiating with wallet, because it will not work out in my favor!😅

An interesting historical note I was reminded about while watching Red Sleeve - this drama makes an important distinction in how ladies were addressed. the "mama"(마마) following someone's title/position, e.g., 'joongjeon mama', was only for the king, queen, crown prince, and queen dowager. For the princesses(whether the mother was the queen or a concubine) and concubines that were senior 1st rank, 'jaga'(자가) was used (i.e., yeongbin jaga(영빈자가) as the drama referred to sado's mother as). For junior 1st rank concubines and below, 'manim' or 'mamanim' were used. For the crown princess, 'manora' (마노라) was used, NOT 'mama' (i.e., bingoong manora (빈궁마노라)). I have to also mention Bossam for getting this right- they call the princess 'ongju jaga' (옹주자가), while most other sageuks just use 'mama' for everyone in the royal family. @kiara thought you would find this interesting!

Does anyone remember the stressful prank with Rain and his boy group on Master in the House? Well, have no fear, ep 194 and 195 of MitH are fabulous collaborations of the cast with Street Dancer women groups that is super fun to watch. The women dancers are positive, talented, and not afraid to compliment each other and cheer on the House guys. I enjoyed this mission very much, good vibes all around.

Jang Hyuk on Radio Star, just love him.

Would You Like a Cup of Coffee is slow, I but there’s a decent storyline in there.

Now We Are Breaking Up is my fav just now, waiting for 3 and 4 this weekend.

I guess we have to wait another week for Wild Idol final seven.

I spent a bittersweet day yesterday with a strange mix of celebrating my birthday and saying goodbye to my aunt who passed away. She was a talented dancer and a counselor. I know this is a fairly boring question these days, but how’s Covid in your part of the world? I’m in New Zealand and part of the country is semi-locked down, we’re getting about 200 cases a day. We wear masks in public indoor spaces and crowded outdoor spaces, there are restrictions on event sizes and we maintain physical distancing (or we are meant to, but in practice the distancing is usually not great). Most of the over 12 population has had at least one vaccination, it’s mandatory for healthcare and education staff. I don’t like it being here after so long with zero Covid, I like it even less given my daughter has just been in hospital for a respiratory problem, but at the moment it feels manageable. The lockdown is going to lift soon though, so we shall see what happens.

I live in a Red State so anti-vaxxers and covidiots are everywhere. I see people ignoring our mask mandate in stores and other places. I'm an introvert so I don't have a problem not meeting other people 🙃 🙂 😅

Health Canada approved Pfizer for 5-11yr-olds today, so that's a plus. Unfortunately my province reported the highest daily case count from the last 2 months. There is still a mask-mandate in my city.

I live in a pretty anti-vax part of the US and it's a mess - lots of people without masks or vaccines acting as if there isn't a problem. Needless to say, this is allowing case rates to remain high. My workplace has good masking rules, which I appreciate, although it doesn't yet have a vax mandate.

It’s been pretty drama free on the whole so far - but now we’re moving into a phase of high vaccination and not just keeping the virus out completely, I think the response is getting a bit less cohesive. There’s a few noisy people who complain about vaccine mandates (a good portion of these are the rent-a-crowd who complain about everything, and I don’t necessarily think everyone who is upset by mandates realises that) so we’ve been getting a couple of protests but nothing too dramatic so far.

0

I’m in a big East Coast city and we’re still largely on hybrid work, masking on public transport, vaccine cards to get into restaurants, etc. Some people are not masking anymore in stores, which is not great.

Schools seem to have been circulating the virus. My young nieces just tested positive, so that’s Thanksgiving cancelled. A couple of my team have had exposures and are quarantined. It feels like we’re coming up on another crest but at least the vaccines mean that anyone who has it is way less likely to get hospitalized. The city in the early weeks of the pandemic was horrific, nonstop sirens. That’s not happening right now, thankfully. There are some who seem to be frustrated along the lines of “well if the kids were going to get it anyway, and be fine, what was the point of the last two years?!” But of course the point wasn’t the kids, it was the adults and OAPs and overrun ERs, etc. So I still think all the precautions were worth it, and that people are kind of incorrectly remembering that this wasn’t all about protecting children (who are pretty hardy when it comes to covid and also little vectors).

Good that you’re headed into summer, lots of opportunity get outside. Lived in NZ for years and was there just before the pandemic, have definitely thought a few times that it would’ve been nice to have timed things slightly differently and gotten locked down in Queenstown!

In Switzerland, the pandemy is becoming stronger. Our vaccinate rate is not really high. I guess it's the issue to have good hospitals...

The most important is that in one week, we will have to vote for the COVID law and one for the nurses. So between the anti-vaxx, the ones who said the law is liberticide, the pandemy becoming stonger (surprisly in the Cantons who have a low vaccination rate), it's complicated.

while on the west coast of the US, our numbers have been falling... i worry that the holidays will bring another spike. i don't think another wave is out of the question. i hope people will stay vigilant and careful - we need to end this virus' spread once and for all...

then, after it is eradicated, or nearly so -- then we can resume life as we knew it. but if we don't, if we keep thinking we can just go about our lives as before -- the spikes/waves will keep happening. and what happens if yet another NEW VARIANT appears from all the new infections and "breakthrough" infections???

Here in Ireland (similar population to NZ), we are seeing between 3000 and 5000 new cases per day. Deaths are way down though, as over 90% of over 12s are vaccinated. We still have to wear masks in indoor settings, but it seems to me that in the cities (like Dublin) a lot of people seem to think it's all over. It really isn't. The Health service are sounding alarm bells as the hospitalisations are rising daily. Personally, I think we are heading for another lockdown.

For the first time I actually know people that have COVID--and IT IS SCARY! They are all unvaccinated and it spread from them to my fully vaccinated daughter-in-law, so I've really battened down the hatches. I sent a list of what I require from anyone that wants to enter my house, to everyone that might even get close to my threshold. I've been fully vaccinated but have to wait until the middle of December to get my booster. Too bad some folks just don't care.

SG here. We had a huge spike some weeks back (5000+/day) but it's gone down to 1000+ daily. Because of the spike, there were more restrictions - dining out only restricted to 2pax, home visits restricted to 2 pax. From yesterday, dining out and home visits have gone up to 5pax.

Masking is mandatory in all situations except eating and exercising. Most above 13 are double vaxxed, with 3rd shot being rolled out. More restrictions on those who refuse to be vaxxed, and they'll have to pay for any hospitalisations from Dec.

I'm now stuck at home, cos I met with a friend on Sunday afternoon, and she tested positive for COVID on Sunday night. Most companies have self-testing policies in place, so that's how she found out. In the meantime, I have to isolate myself from other people in my household, and report my self-test daily. It's annoying, but as long as people follow the rules, it should be controllable. Unfortunately, as we have seen from Happiness, there are many who don't for various reasons. Argh.

(That’s not meant to sound like that’s why you’re isolating! Obviously you and your friend doing the right thing. Just as you say with Happiness, many people don’t - it’s been a key factor for our change in approach to covid here, because some people can’t follow restrictions and some people won’t.)

Thanks! So far, so good. Everyone's sick of the restrictions, so I'm hoping the recent Vaccinated Travel Lanes won't lead to a huge spike in cases. You never know how honest people may be in their eagerness to travel, and even if everyone's honest, you never know where you might pick up the virus. But for a small country like SG, we can't close ourselves from the world forever, so it's a risk we have to take as long as the cases don't overwhelm the healthcare system. The poor healthcare workers must be crazy tired by now.

This week I begin Operation Sparkly Tracksuit.

It's Christmas film season and that means we're in countdown to the end of the year. In between Vanessa Hudgens films, family Secret Santa and our annual drama poll (that I'm getting around to any minute I swear) I'm also going for my elusive and long-desired Sparkly Tracksuit.

Al, our not-so-friendly and ofttimes capricious Algorithm, has been more naughty than nice this year and refuses to provide me with my tracksuit despite my various pleas, rational arguments and impotent threats.

After many years of observation, evidence gathering and just general nerdiness, we have concluded that the highest rating element in Al's Black Box of tricks is responses to posts.

So, please, dear Beanies, make my Christmas wish come true. All I want for Christmas is you... to respond to my post and get me my sparkly tracksuit. I never wanted to be a Fan Club President at all and now I've been one for what feels like forever.

Operation Sparkly Tracksuit begins!

I've always thought they looked terribly uncomfortable and if I wore one I would immediately spill some sort of staining sauce on it, and since I'm too cheap to get it dry cleaned it would then languish in the furthest depths of my closet.

But when you do get your sparkly track suit, you should wear it on our Trans-Siberian Railway adventure.

I would say we should pitch a show to Netflix, but I don't go on camera. Maybe a podcast? Two Dames on a Train? Is that too rhymie?

3

I love Two Dames on a Train!
Maybe a YouTube channel where we post footage with voiceover because nobody needs to see this face.

4

Tsk, wear it proudly like I do. It’s a continuing piece of Performance Art that speaks to our participation in/rebellion against our all consuming, newest is best, society.

I should clarify that “it” in the above refers to the stains.

Ergh, that film was the worst. The WORST.

Production involves several stages
1. Design in Milan
2. Cutting and sewing in Paris
3. Sparkles attached in a remote and mysterious part of China (which part of China? we don't look too closely)
But lately there has been a disturbing trend of people receiving cheap rip offs, so you need to inspect your tracksuit when you receive it to make sure it is "on brand".
Meanwhile here's some sparkly music to listen to while you wait.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide tracking, but I promise a speedy delivery, once I pick it up from the distribution center, although the roads are flooded at the moment. Luckily I'm double vaxxed so getting across the border won't be a problem.

oh hi this is a brain dump lol

- just dropping by on here to say that today, it made me happy to learn that Kim Seon Ho will be resuming his activities and that most of his CFs are pretty much all back and doing well (in terms of sales!!!). and for as long as there's 2D1N season 4, I will feel resentment towards the crazy ex-girlfriend lol she was so unnecessary!!

- I didn't think I would love The King's Affection but I am super hooked. also, I CAN LOOK AT ROWOON ALL DAY. 😍😍 HE'S SO HANDSOME

You should watch She Would Never Know! He was looking really good with all these outfits they found for him! Like a model! The romance was really good. Every character have flaws at the beginning but they grew more mature very well.

I lovee She Would Never Know! and I think that’s Rowoon’s best acting performance, he was so good in it. To me, apart from his great outfit, he was shine there with his acting, and like you said, I too think the characters’ growth was done well, hence my first bean of the year went to the show. I’m watching
the king affection, but not really hooked, still i think PEB is so good in it, but rowoon not so much. nonetheless, i’m happy that TKA’s rating is rising :)

I like Rowoon in this role. He's the modern touch in this story making this drama a fusion sageuk. But his character brought the humor but overall the growth of the Crown Prince.

And it's lovely and heartwarming to watch Seonhohadas celebrate everything related to him, hosting Hometown Cha-cha-cha rewatch parties, celebrating 8M Instagram followers, his movie script reading...

The loss of 2D1N hits the hardest :'( I enjoyed watching him in that so much, and the show was what made me love him as a person, and believe in him.

I did something unusual yesterday. I left the house to go to the grocery story and came back with a new car! I passed a Mazda dealership halfway between home and the store, swung into the lot, marched into the office and announced "I want to buy a car!" Due to pandemic port bottlenecks the dealership only had two new cars on the lot to show me. I bought the more expensive one. I then continued on to the grocery store, bought the groceries, and drove the new car home.

Melancholia is challenging in a good and interesting way on grounds of social stigma and freedoms, using math as a mean because it is some form of language that let certain people communicate thoughts.

I see how people who are supposed to have a close relationship continue to ignore or even dismiss certain important aspects of their companions because they don't have the same "language skills", which is sad and that's what makes the two leads treasure each other so much upon connection.

p.s. I have to think that Seung-Yu has nothing to do with the MIT incident which he held himself responsible for years... let's see

p.p.s. Ye-lin is worse than her parents; pitiful
