Hi everyone, first post here after reading recaps here for the last 1 1/2 years when I started on k-dramas. I've completed 30 shows, and rewatched many of them, and started but dropped 6 shows. Most of course are not on the 2021 list, but here's my bean allocations for this year's dramas as well as their ranking in the 30 I've watched:

Only 5 beans, the lowest number since I started watching k-dramas years ago...

I discovered dramas last February. Started with Healer, have not come back yet. Worse, I have started cdramas also... I'm a bad case of addiction, as I have watched 53 shows (including 4 cdramas). So 15 dramas of the year, some as they air, some later.

It's Ji Chang wook that pulled me into Dramaland, but Lovestruck had so few tension that it took me 3 months to watch it.
I fells hard for Seo In Guk, Park Bo Young and Ji Sung.
And Lee Sung Gi in Flowers of evil, but that's not from 2021.
There are some drama whose music and visuals are just on another level.

My completion rate was dreadful this year - I started over 50 dramas and finished 6 (that count for this year - I did also finish some older ones but not as many as you might hope).

Overall for me in 2021, Kdrama had such a promising start especially in the 1st quarter, with 3 of the series that got my beans (listed above) belong here. It's been a good year of Kdramas for me. I've been in a drama slump for years before 2021 dramas came to save me. For this year, I got 9 beans to give (yay! managed to finish 9 dramas this year, such a glow up since last year in which I just finished 2 lmao).

Three 2021 dramas ended up as my all-time favorite list so I'm giving them more than one beans.

Racket Boys - 💙💙💙
Best ensemble. Best chemistry. Best friendship.

Move to Heaven - 💙💙💙
Really love how the characters were written especially the relationship between Sang-gu and Geu-ru. The stories told in this drama made me realize a lot of things in a good way.

(Tang Joonsang is the highlight of my 2021, obviously)

Yumi's Cells - 💙💙
Cute and fun. Love how the fusion of real life situations and cells animation totally worked here. Yumi is definitely my favorite female character of the year. Just simply relatable with a heart.

I'll be giving my last bean to this drama since it's such a well-produced show with amazing cast.

One question though: do the two episodes of Moebius count as part of The Veil or do they count as a separate, stand alone show? If the latter is the case, then I suppose I have 19 beans. If not, that's ok, it'll be 18 then. The streaming sites list it as a separate show but I'm unsure what Dramabeans thinks. What say you dear Beanies?

I loved three shows; Move to Heaven, Kikarazu Koi ni wa Riyuu ga Atte, and especially Definitely Not Today.

I got 11 beans this year, I think it's the same as what I got last year :/ Clearly, my drama watching skills haven't improved. (and I'm not mentioning that 2 of those beans were self-awarded for fastforwarded shows. shhh.).

Anyway, of these 11 precious beans, I am giving 7 (yes SEVEN out of 11, a whole giant majority of 63% of my bean hoard) to the drama I won't stop raving about even if I'm hoarse, ON THE VERGE OF INSANITY. The best show of the year, IMO, and catapults right into my all-time great kdramas.

The remaining 4 beans get distributed thus:
one each to
-- the heartbreaking but beautifully made YOUTH OF MAY;
-- the delightfully bright, sunny and cheery RACKET BOYS;
-- the rom-com of the year despite being almost lost in translation, i.e., RUN ON;

and half each to:
-- the OTP-that-wasn't in LAW SCHOOL; and
-- the anti-hero and his cray cray anti-heroine in VINCENZO.

This lopsided distribution is because INSANITY doesn't have enough beans :( and the other shows have more that their due share.

HP2 was still the comfort food just like HP1 was during the lockdown. I really enjoyed Vincenzo as well. The Uncanny Counter was a breathe of fresh air and I love the cinematography in True Beauty. Kingdom: Ashin was surprising my favourite among the 3 (seasons), hence these shows get my beans.

So many more 2021 shows which I wanna watch but didn't get down to finding the time (DP, Move to Heaven, Racket Boys, My Name, among others).

I'm just waiting for TKA to end now, and eagerly anticipating the new shows which will add to my bean count in 2022 (Moonshine, Showdrop, Bad & Crazy, Our Beloved Summer).

Fair is fair and all my beans will stay with the drama I finished because there are only 8: Run On, Navillera, Move to Heaven, Mad for Each Other, On The Verge of Insanity, Dal Li and Gamjatang, Red Sleeve Cuff.

Sure, I could take Navillera's bean away because they gave that lovely man dementia which is used to the point of trope, but I'm not gonna as it was overall lovely. So many shows that I either dropped quickly or made it to episode 10ish and called it a day. I mean I didn't realize I was gonna but it just ended up that way. Here's looking at you Hometown Cha Cha Cha, Mr. Queen, The King's Affection, Sell Your Haunted House, Monthly Magazine. Maybe I'll be back but probably not.

Yumi’s Cells, Run On, and Rowoon, uh, I mean, She Would Never Know because I would watch them all again.
Nevertheless because i was obsessed with it until episode 9—the ending was just so bad.
Dal-li, TKA, and TRS I really like but probably won’t rewatch (except Junho’s scenes 😋).
Gumiho was really funny but got soooo draggy—I stayed with it for Kang Han-na and Kim Do-won.
Lovestruck in the City wasn’t very good.
And, Love Alarm 2, there is no excuse for why I watched this. It was a one weekend event, binging Love Alarm 1 & 2 while I was in my Nevertheless obsession. Freakin’ Song Kang!

We had our first pregnancy and child this year. Our drama time together was limited at times. :D

Bean Possessors:
-Mr Queen: 4 beans. Favorite show of the year. Loved the leads' performances.
-Sweet Home: 1 bean. I don't normally care for zombie movies and it was watchable.
-Vincenzo: 1 bean. Dragged in places, iffy finish, but legitimately hilarious set of side characters and great villain(s).
-Mad for Each Other: 1 bean. Finally watched something with
-My Name: 1 bean. Gritty but good, finally saw what the hype about this actress was about.
-Happiness: 1 bean, see Sweet Home.

True Beauty and Happiness make an unlikely pair of favourite kdrama bookends, but apparently that’s the way I roll. Both really well executed within their genre. Currently late-watching ‘Sunbae…’ but even if I finish it this year its bean would be headed elsewhere.
