Gag warning alert:
On January 27, 2022 the High Court for Armed Forces carried out Seungri’s appeal trial. Seungri was convicted of nine charges including the violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, prostitution mediation, purchase of prostitution services, and special violence instigation. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison and fined $994,544 US.

During the appeals trial, Seungri reportedly admitted to all charges and expressed his intention to reflect on his actions. As a result, his prison sentence was reduced in half to 1 1/2 years. Seungri’s military discharge is currently on hold. So he will basically serve his time in a military brig until he is released.

It is ridiculous that he can get a reduced sentence just for admitting what he vehemently and forcefully denied for so long and then promising “to reflect on his actions.” In other countries, perjury would add years to one’s sentence. But in Korea, the higher principles of honesty, shame and repentance are more important than victim impact damage.

I don't know the details of this particular case (why the Food Sanitation Act, for example?) but to the degree it involved prostitution, its not just in Korea that the perpetrators of sexual trafficking often get comparatively lighter sentences than the victims. That's true in the U.S. as well. Its an artifact of a misogynist culture.
In fact, not to be too grim on a site that is usually dedicated to a lot more enjoyable things, as an older man who has seen the tremendous benefits of increasing gender equality through my 6 decades of life, I am dismayed at the resurgence (or continuance) of woman hating in some factions of US and Korean culture. I really wish that the mostly men in these movements would follow at least the professed example of Seungri--they should be honest about the true causes of their impotence (its not women who want equality!) and should exhibit shame and repentence instead of unreasoning and stupid resentment!

Thanks god my life isn't a kdrama, I'm pretty sure I'm the kind of FL everyone would hate. 😂

After 2 years of living with my mom and "going" to college through the computer I totally forgot to save money and now I don't know how am I going to pay the rent. Thanks god I'm living with friends and not alone, otherwise I would be so screwed for next month payment.

Not my fault that COVID happened when I was supposed to become an adult 😔 (that's the lame excuse I tell myself so I don't feel like a total idiot)

I should rewatch "We couldn't become adults" and cry about my poor life decisions plus the fact that I'm about to start my first job ever.

You finished your studies during a pandemic and now you're about to start working. So what, you hit a bump on the road bit got good friends to give you a hand. It sounds to me like you're adulting just fine! You may be a Candy, just getting started in your workplace, but one Beanies would love 😉

Thank you for saying that, it's so nice of you. ^^

The job is part of my studies, so if I don't do a good job I won't be able to graduate. So that makes me feel like I have to get my stuff together really quick.
But like you said I have good people around me and I'm just starting, so maybe everything is just a matter of time and effort, right?

Argh stressful! It’s a tough way to be reminded about saving but hooray for good friends, and also for starting a job. I think everyone makes some questionable financial decisions as a young adult so you’re just ticking it off the list 😉

You're right, It’s a really tough way to be reminded about savings. I won't forget it.

Thanks a lot for the support. ^^ Let's hope my list is short and I won't make more questionable financial decisions for the rest of the year. 😣

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

I just got back from a nice afternoon walk with a good friend. Read: we walked at a very slow pace while chatting for a bit, took a rest on a bench while still chatting, resumed walking at that same pace during our chat, and took the remainder of our chat inside her warm place for a couple more hours.😁

Our next appointment has already been scheduled for next week. We hope to make this a weekly thing and maybe rope more friends into meeting up this way. It turns out that we both needed a nudge to set dates and figured the other would not be up for it. Communication, communication, communication Beanies!📣

The stress relief was extra necessary today, since the medical inspector showed up just as I was about to leave! I am getting better at dealing with such unpleasant unannounced visits, but I was hyperventilating and shaking all over and needed some time to calm down. Fortunately, I passed again, so I should be safe from them for now. I certainly will need to recover from this exciting day this weekend!😌

All of us are dead, starting episode 2 now. Wow, this is wild! Very graphic, but so well made. And with little shimmers of humor. Very fun in a gory kind of way, and you can really see those Netflix moneys, he!
In case of zombie outbreak, of course the teachers are the first to go 😂

After a hefty heat wave these last days, we've had plenty of refreshing rain - my sister measured 40 mm last night. The sound of raindrops sure makes for a comfy night!

There's also an adaptation of the webtoon Joseon's Ban on Marriage that is apparently in the works. I saw some article about Kim Young-dae being approached to star.

It is always nice to meet another HEALER fan. It was my intro to kdramaland in 2016. I am glad my DB name caught your attention.
