Modern Korean fairy tales can come true. When HB announced his marriage, he sentimentally referenced the CLOY characters as continuing their journey in real life, to the delight of BinJin shippers. SYJ remarked just the day before that her first love was her current love. A first love is an idyllic emotional state where you find the first person you truly fall in love with; your own belief of what love is that was not there before. In her announcement, she was shy and inferred that destiny brought them together which was also a theme from CLOY.

“I want to become a more mature and amazing actress and person, but it’s not as easy as I want it to be. I’ll be able to get closer to my ideal version of myself one day, won’t I...? So, I’ll become a person that neither you nor I won’t be embarrassed of,” SYJ wrote in her post. As with the dating news, it appears she is overwhelmed by emotions of the moment and tentative about how others’ expectations and marriage will change her future. I never thought she had anything she has done or accomplished was anything to be embarrassed about but it may have to do with her gratitude from the unconditional love her fans have given her. It may also be about her immediate future. "Son Ye-jin has not decided on her next project ahead of her wedding with Hyun Bin. After her marriage, she is expected to focus on her newlywed life for the time being,” Naver reported stating that SYJ has no filming scheduled after March. It would be a shame if 39 is her last project before a long hiatus. For most Korean celebrity couples, the wife sacrifices part of her career for the family.

With the news, CLOY rocketed to the top streaming lists more than 2 years after its conclusion. I wish the couple well as they now journey into deeper waters of the prying, public, celebrity fishbowl.

I do find it interesting that SYJ’s last three projects were very close to herself. In SITR, she played an immature mid-30s career professional navigating the rough waters of being single without a clear or happy ending. In CLOY, she played a rich business woman who gets caught up in a fantasy romance which also had an ambiguous ending. Next week, 39 debuts as she plays a 39 year old woman dealing with friendship and romance at the pivotal milestone age of 40. We shall see how it all plays out.

I’m wondering how many Beanies recall that technically Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin were in Secret Garden together, although they did not share a scene. She just dropped in for a cameo at the very end with Lee Philip, it was super cute.❤️❤️❤️

I think at that time SYJ was friends with Ha Ji Won. I think that was the connection for the cameo, which was the only one she has done in her career (so far).

I heard there were speculations that she did the cameo because of kim eun sook. In her previous drama ON Air, Kim eun Sook included a character pertaining to an obnoxious actress. Many people started pointing out that the character was based on Son ye Jin. But they denied that it's her. And to show that everything is going well with the writer and the actress, kim eun sook offered her a cameo in her next project a.k.a secret garden

Yes, that is possible, too. Or in conjunction with many factors. Her bad reputation was in the Korean X-files scandal.

I just read two tangential things:
1. A critic/industry insider stated that SYJ and 39 is the Last Hope Card for late 30s actresses to find small screen success after several contemporaries have failed to live up to expectations (ratings) in 2022. I disagree somewhat with that premise.

2. However, fans are hoping that 39's ratings are very successful for SYJ to have good feelings as she enters her married life. I also disagree with that premise.

Ive been unemployed since the end of December and I dont regret it. I spent the first 3 weeks just sleeping and talking with my therapist and relishing being away from a truly toxic situation.
I started applying for jobs in the middle of January. I have had some interviews but no job yet. I dont want to keep giving libraries "one more try" only for each one to be more heinous than the last. But looking at the job search sites I think libraries are the only thing Im qualified for. Its stressful. But in my spare time I find myself planning library programs so I guess I still want to be there. And its stressful because my go to reference has started a new job on the other side of the country and I dont want to bother her so I have someone new in my lineup and I dont know what shell say.
Im getting low on money so Ive started applying for retail jobs and was hired at a big box store near me.
However! (Because theres always a however with me).
Even though my wallet was stolen in December I still havent received my new id (I had to go up to the bmv yesterday and order a new one --25 dollars! And the lady who helped me kept saying I lost my id. I didn't lose it! It was stolen!) and the soc sec office said I didnt need a replacement card as long as I know the number. Whoever needs to verify it can just call. So I go to Meijer for my first day of work and explain about my stolen wallet to the manager. She sends me home. I cant start today without those documents. She tells me to come back when I have my life together.
Dude. I WAS ROBBED. I didn't go tiptoeing thru the tulips and tossing my cards all willy nilly. Im already having a hard time why make it more difficult?
So its back to the drawing board for temporary employment. I have an interview for a library on Monday thats 5 HOURS away.
In spite of everything being the very definition kf terrible Im still glad I quit. If I had waited until I had a new job lined up like a responsible human I never aoukd have left because job searching suuuuuuuucks and I would have kept being in that toxic situation and I dont deserve that. No one does.

Before reading this I was just talking to my sister on the phone, and she was telling me how much she fantasizes about quitting her job, which has been a toxic environment for her since day one. Guess what? She's been there for 27 years 😱
Of course over the years she went through several bouts of looking for something else, but it never really worked out. I'm sure that if she had taken the step of quitting, she would have found another job decades ago. Somehow that job eats away her self-esteem and drive, I think you did well in quitting if that was your situation too.
Wish you all the luck in finding a job that makes you happy and fulfilled, Isa. Fighting!

I dont see how she could barw it. I would have killed myself. I had a date and a plan and was about to start throwing stuff away so when my body was found there wouldnt be that much stuff for other people to clean up. It was literally killing me. So. This was definitely the right thing for me to do. Its just a matter of hanging on until I find something.
Your sister is one tough cookie! I hope she can retire soon and then she wont be in that toxic environment anymore!

Things will start looking up - if not only because they never stay really bad or really good for too long. Hang in there! 😉💚

Just as what I told Beans in discord a while ago: when I doubt whether this is the right decision or not, I inspect my feelings after I made the decision. In your case, you're still glad you did quit that job so that was the right call. Congratulations on.. what one K actor said in screen shot I saw some Beanie posted on her fanwall, you are on your way to happiness.

I'm glad you were so brave in making that decision. If something doesn't serve you well, it doesn't deserve you.

Former vocational counselor here. It seems to me you saved yourself years of agony by quitting a stressful job with unsupportive management. It's easier to get hired if you are currently working, but of course the catch-22 is that while working you have no time to look for a job. You probably know that by far the best way into a job is through people you know or people who might know somebody - that's how most good jobs are filled. You've had some bad luck, and you didn't deserve any of it. But in one respect, you are lucky: In the current job environment, all cards are up in the air and the workforce is going through a reshufflement, so there is opportunity out there. It's a weird time all around. Remember to take good care of yourself. You're smart, articulate, and a hard worker, and you will find a job.

Hey sounds to me like you're a librarian in the midwest (Meijer is a bit of a give away). I'm a librarian in the Midwest. I'm not sure what area you're looking in, but I have contacts around... I've been in the biz for awhile now. Let me know if you'd like me to reach out to anyone and see what the library is really like before you start somewhere new. We all know there are good bosses and bad bosses and some communities have different challenges. Of course, I may be of no help at all, but I'm happy to see if I can. Public service and all... I can't help but offer. :)

Wishing you the best luck for finding both something temporary and something a bit more lasting. Toxic jobs are the worst - work doesn’t necessarily need to be somewhere you love to go all the time, but it definitely shouldn’t be somewhere that makes you sick and miserable.

Every evening after a long painful, humiliating day at work I fantasize about the day I will finally resign .I know the exact words I will use and how it will feel to no longer have to care about all the tedious responsibilities of my government job ;I've been doing this for the last 5 years but I still dont have the courage to leave without getting another job. Sometimes I think its a form of Stockholm syndrome ,you get so used to the abuse and unreasonable demands, you start giving up parts of yourself to be considered the best employee. When I was away from work during lockdown ,it dawned on me how unhappy this job makes me.

Sorry that you are going through such stress. I have been unemployed since last month. It's been one stress after another. Not to mention it took me hours to get through the unemployment process (which included getting a face scan, among other intrusive requirements). As a fellow librarian, I also don't know what else I can truly do. Unlike you, though, I don't have programming experience. I've always worked on a part-time basis. Also, the civil service process is such a pain. Anyway, I will send positive wishes your way.

APOYM is one of my Olympics Hiatus dramas and I have watched the first two strange episodes. It is my first JHI romantic drama. This may be the best beginning for a Chae Soo-bin character that I have seen. I found her characters hard to warm up to in SD and initially in INAR. I have forgotten already the beginning of WHERE STARS LAND/FOX BRIDE STAR lol.
Anyway I am looking forward to the rest if APOYM.

I did watch INAR too, recently, and same..I liked it, but I still prefer APOYM, both story wise and when it comes to the characters.
One of my favorite dramas, tbh!
It does have some mixed reviews, but I hope you'll be in the group that finds it a beautiful watch! ^^

Also same regarding Jung Haein; after D.P. and Snowdrop it was quite the change watching him in such a mellow and understated romantic (melo?)drama!

(...and it was even a bigger change watching this travel/reality show he did!! Especially this one episode here!! XD https://youtu.be/YmNqgztIVGc)

I loved the 6 episode reality show JUNG HAE IN’S TRAVEL LOG (2019) (Viki US) which chronicles JHI’s first visit to NYC. It’s great. I was living in NYC at the time (2013-2022) and the show was filmed in October 2019 (I believe). One can view the city pre pandemic. It becomes a bit of a road show flick when his pals Eun Jong-geon and Im Hyun-soo show up at the end of episode 2. One thing I learned is that JHI can pack away the grub lol. A great watch.

I enjoyed seeing how simple and unaffected he is in real life, kind of dork really. Speaking of food he can sure handle his spice. His fellow Koreans are sweating and squirming in their seats and he just takes a bite and says calmly, "Hmmm...that's pretty good," and keeps eating, never breaks a sweat.

1

I bet it won't be your last JHI romantic drama. He's addictive. I love APOYM, but I think my very favorite role of his is One Spring Night. Both APOYM and OSN are on my all time favorites list.

APOYM is a slow watch for me (as I work in my other Olympics hiatus dramas) and I watched episode 4 last night. I am really enjoying it.
I am not going to try to figure out or follow the science on how this ‘device’ works and just go with the flow. The kdrama trope of traumas of youth playing out in adulthood is right there.
I was pleased that a bit of humor was worked in near the end of episode 4 when Seo-woo was called out about her Ha-won crush.
(I am wondering if it is a trope or reality that in South Korea two people can run into each other daily for a couple of weeks (Seo-woo and Ha-won at the recording studio) and never learn each other’s name lol).

Yes, it's best not to worry about HOW the AI works and just let it be what it is. The rest of the story is so charming, that it really does take a backseat as the show moves along.

Happy weekend, Beanies!

I haven't been very active on Love, February posts despite me willing to be very active again this year. I was super busy this past two weeks, but now I think it's becoming better. I hope to contribute one or two more posts before the Love, Feb 2022 ends.

One thing is that I started swimming once every week since three weeks ago. I know this might sound very infrequent, but given that I hadn't swum for many years, it was a good enough first step I took to be more physically fit. One good thing is that because of the pandemic, people were so afraid I swam alone every time I went to that saltwater swimming pool. I swam only for 30 minutes a time, but that was enough to make me feel so hungry and tired, and sent me to sleep very early at night.

I hope you stay fit in the middle of winter (in those places where they have real winter *laughcries*). Take good care of yourself, body and mind!

@kiara what did you think of Book of Bobba Fett?

I quite did not get the purpose of it, besides as a transition to The Mandalorian S3.

Hi @drawde2000

I liked the first couple of episodes (2 especially) with the Tuskan Raiders, but then the Mandalorian season 3 took over, and they lost me.
Don't get me wrong; I love Luke, Mando, and Grogu, but they had no business taking over a show that was supposed to be about Boba Fett. A cameo would have sufficed.

It was great seeing Cad Bane, but Rodrigues's directing was a hot mess. I'm still laughing at the power ranger crew, and that spin in the last episode had me rolling. Wtf?

I feel like Favreau didn't care as much about Boba as Filoni would. It's like Boba Fett was rushed to promote The Mandalorian Season 3. This is Disney's way. Money money money.

I was disappointed, to be honest, and the little faith I have left is reserved for Filoni's Ahsoka.

Lolol. Why you gotta remind me of that spin? Lolol. I hollered at that moment.

The Two Mandalorian episodes were my favorite. Way better than Fett's episodes, in terms of tone, writing and directing. And then watching the finale, it felt like I am watching an episode of Power Ranger, with the spin and all. 😊 Action sequences are so amateurish.

It just doesn't make sense what the writer and directors were trying to do with this book. If they decided to rush it midway, I don't get it either. Coz we are willing to wait for S3 anyway, no matter how long. And we know Obi Wan is coming. It's not like we will unsubscribe anytime soon. Yep. Disappointed overall, with episodes dedicated to Bobba Fett.

Agree. The Mando episodes were pretty good and Bryce Dallas Howard did an awesome job. Big improvement from Season 1 eps 4.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Last week I mentioned how my therapist reassured me it was more than okay to try new things and take new steps. The excitement wore off a bit as soon as it became clear that I will have to wait until March. Our garden renovations should be in full swing by then and spring cleaning can start as soon as we have reclaimed some space in our new garden to temporarily stock whatever we will be throwing out.🪣🧹

My friend will be more settled into her new place next month, which allows her more time to organize our mutual activities. The weather might improve and the covid restrictions might loosen up a bit by then as well. The circumstances require me to wait a few weeks, and that is totally fine. 📅📝

What I am less okay with, is finding out that my preferred K-dramas are either postponed until March or simply do not excite me right now. So here I am, twiddling my thumbs for two more weeks until I start complaining to you about my big March floods in K-drama land and real life as well!🤣

During the the recent Olympics hiatus for THROUGH THE DARKNESS I watched the 2021 three episode doucuseries on Netflix: THE RAINCOAT KILLER: CHASING A PREDATOR IN KOREA. Not being Korean watching this (like TTD a difficult watch) gave me the background to understand the story that is now unfolding in TTD. Prof. Kwon Il-young who is the basis for Kim Nam-gil’s character Song Ha-young is interviewed. The first two episodes of the docuseries covers where we ended for the break at episode 6 in TTD. It is not a spoiler (I think) to say that we know the killer will be caught after all he is still in jail. The last episode of the docuseries (the capture) is very dramatic and if TTD follows the actual story line on the capture we will have some powerful episodes ahead.
One of those in the Seoul Police who investigated the 2003/2004 serial killer murders that I found most interesting in the docuseries was Kim Hee-sook who at the time was the only female forensics officer. If anyone in the docuseries shows the kind of empathy to the victims as Ha-young (KNG) in TTD does it is Kim Hee-sook. Particularly after the suspect was identified and buried bodies were discovered her work was incredible. Towards the end of the docuseries she has this credit: “Captain Kim Hee-sook is now Director of Forensic Investigation at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and oversees all investigations as an expert in fingerprint investigation”.
If Producers are looking for a spin-off from TTD they could look at the career of Capt. Kim Hee-sook.

Amid all the chest thumping, hubris and downright bumfuckery of the police investigation team, Kim Hee-sook was a beacon of intellect, dedication and empathy. Her presence alone carried me through that very upsetting show.

Last year I stopped taking my meds because of that. Now I'm tired because of school/work, but I can't quit college so I guess I'm screwed.

I'm going to have to start taking a bunch of vitamins like a character in a drama. I hope those vitamins plus all the coffee I drink will make me feel like Wanna One.

Random thoughts:
There’s a whopping seven k-shows on Netflix Malaysia top ten today, with CLOY at no 6. The other two are Japanese and one American series.

Love & Leashes is no 2 of the top 10 movies. On average there’s at least 4 k-shows on the daily top 10 list (from my observation this week).

No wonder we get so much korean (past two years) & japanese (recently) content, they’re bringing in the $$$. I’m just happy to watch stuff legally!
