Premiere Watch: Sponsor, Juvenile Justice, Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 3

The drama lineup continues to fill out this week with Netflix’s latest original, and two smaller cable dramas of the melo variety. If we’ve learned anything it’s that these smaller shows on smaller channels can really take off, so I’ll be keeping my eyes on these for sure.

Sponsor

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: iHQ, MBN
Genre: Romance, melodrama
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: This melodrama has had a more-than-appropriate amount of its own melodrama behind the scenes, and now, it’s time to see what sort of drama is at hand. In this tale of greed and reckless ambition, we have four main characters (played by Lee Ji-hoon, Han Chae-young, Gu Ja-sung, and Ji Yi-soo) whose stories overlap in likely outrageous ways. From sponsors to affairs and other intrigues, this drama has been touted as telling the story of characters who collide like runaway trains. Let’s brace for impact.

Juvenile Justice

Time slot: Friday
Broadcaster: Netflix
Genre: Drama, legal, crime
Episode count: 10

Reasons to watch: Netflix returns after a short break with their next original — a legal drama about juvenile offenders and the judges who decide their fates. With Kim Hye-soo in the lead, and Kim Mu-yeol, Lee Jung-eun, and Lee Sung-min rounding out the cast, it’s a no-brainer that this drama will boast quality performances. But it’s also full of South Korea’s real-life social and political issues around juvenile crime, so it will be interesting to see not only how this drama is received, but what sort of a message it shares.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 3

Time slot: Saturday-Sunday
Broadcaster: TV Chosun
Genre: Drama, melodrama, romance
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: I have to be honest, I didn’t even realize that Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) was still on the table, never mind entering its third season! This multi-generational tale of married women and their cheating husbands continues, and will surely continue to earn its makjang label for TV Chosun. Notably, Sung Hoon and Lee Tae-gon have opted out of Season 3, though their characters remain behind (replaced by Kang Shin-hyo and Ji Young-san, respectively). Actor shifts are often off-putting and hard to adapt to, but it seems like the drama (and the melodrama) are going full steam ahead.

Sponsor's bts drama seems more interesting than the drama itself. It's too bad Lee Ji-hoon lost the lead role.

I'm definitely going to try Juvenile Justice. I hope the writing is good because the cast is impressive.

I confess that I watched Love (ft. Marriage & Divorce) 1 and 2. I swore I would not watch another season of this trainwreck but who am I kidding, I'm totally going to tune in. The fact that three actors were recast reminds me of the good old days when I watched American soaps.

“ I swore I would not watch another season of this trainwreck but who am I kidding, …”

Same vow here. SIGH. Perhaps the actor changes will turn me off.

It's going to be weird. I won't miss Sung Hoon but Lee Tae-gon was kind of perfect in the role, if a bit robotic. I will miss the actress who played the crazy stepmom.

Agree. The crazy stepmom was played to a perfect degree of creepiness.

The amazing thing is that this drama sold well enough for a third season! There must be a lot of people like us out there…

I swore the same thing. I stopped at episode 12.
Now I'm forced to watch the rest to catch up🤣.

I watched Love (ft Marriage & Divorce) too and I'm definitely going to tune in. Fingers crossed for the actors change, I loved the actress playing the crazy step mom since New tales of a Gisaeng so that's a little disappointment for me.

This drama actually gives me NTOAG vibes now that I think about it, maybe that's the reason I like it so much.

I'll also miss the doctor husband as I felt he had a lot of charisma but definitely could have been more human in a sense.

As for Sung Hoon, I'll always like him, in anything, period. Even if ... TT
It's like a bias I cannot get rid of no matter what, sigh.

I feel like these last few months, there were not a lot of drama's I could really get behind since Hometown Chachacha.

So sometimes, makjang dramas and even weekender dramas (50 episodes ones) fill the gap when waiting for the new heart stopping, "I-can't-wait-for-next-week" drama.

Let's hope for one soon *finger's crossed*

Joining the club for Love (ft Marriage & Divorce). I swore never to get played after the ending sequence of season 2 but who am I kidding. I am sure I won't be able to put off watching it until the series end... it the third season available in netflix? I watched the first 2 seasons in Netflix but there is no news about the 3rd season in netflix this time. Atleast in my region

At least with highbrow Juvenile Justice, we'll get a rest from hearing "the next Squid Game" like was heard ad nauseam about Hellbound, The Silent Sea, and All of Us Are Dead (they weren't).

I'm eager to see if Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 3 can beat Season 2's 16.582% rating especially with the recasting of actors. Penthouse 3 wasn't able to beat Penthouse 2, but then again Season 3 should've never been made.

Spot on with Penthouse 3. The ridiculousness and plot holes were so much I couldn't keep on watching nor be happy for the wins season 3 brought them.

The character Alex was a disgrace, and I'm still bitter they killed off Oh Yoon-hee halfway through the season and never brought her back to life like every other character who died and the fact that she really was Min Seol-ah's killer. I was so sure there would be a twist since she was drunk.

Killing off Oh Yoon Hee was the straw that broke the camel's back. How the hell do you think of killing off the one character that makes Joo Dan-te and Cheon Seo-jin pee in their pants, with h great fidgeting. And then, you do not bring her back to life. But no, Logan was brought to life and as if it wasn't enough, Alex came into the picture. Total waste of screentime. Oh Yoon Hee was the real MVP in Penthouse.

If I'd write a theme on an ending that shouldn't have been, I'd rewrite Penthouse.

To me, Shim Su-ryeon was the real MVP in Penthouse. Na Ae-gyo just wasn't the same. But I couldn't get over how she could love her daughter's brother.

I'm watching all 3. February sure has a whole lot of dramas, and there's almost nothing to not watch.
Love ft Marriage and Divorce should try and set things right. Whatever made 3 actors and the director exit the production, the writer should try toake things right.

Given the writer, more extreme makjang is more likely than less. And more random elements.

I just hope they do something more interesting with the ghost.

Yh.
It's Phoebe, and the stories I've heard aren't nice about her relationship with cast and production.

JUVENILE JUSTICE Is one that I have been waiting for. Nice to see JJ on the currently recapping list. I am anticipating some great performances especially from young actors who may get a break from this drama.
