Crazy Love: Episodes 5-6 Open Thread

Weird and random though it is, Crazy Love definitely has a knack for putting our characters in awkward situations that make you legitimately laugh out loud. With multiple layers of lies and pretense added onto the already complicated relationship between our leads, we watch as they cope with all the bizarre tangles they find themselves in.

EPISODES 5-6 WEECAP

Yasss, Go-jin is truly faking his amnesia, and though he’s trying to get to the bottom of who plotted his hit-and-run, he can’t lose the opportunity to also lavish some praise on himself: “I didn’t realize I was so good at acting!” Go-jin thinks it’s his genius IQ level that makes it possible for him to not only fake having amnesia, but also fake not having (fake) amnesia in front of all of his employees.

Meanwhile, everyone else around him has a different read on the situation entirely: falling in love made him into a changed man! Even though they tried to hide their “engagement,” GoTop Education is a tried and true gossip mill and before they know it, Shin-ah is revealed as Go-jin’s betrothed and is even referred to by some with the respectful term samonim — quite a step up from being Secretary Lee.

For most of Episode 5, we deal with all the hijinks at GoTop, now that Go-jin is back and double-faking everything. The company hosts their annual entrance extravaganza, and Go-jin is so electric on stage that even Shin-ah gets stars in her eyes. In fact, that’s a point that keeps getting highlighted even more this week — Shin-ah’s very haphazard dealings Go-jin.

Though she’s neck-deep in her revenge scheme, she also continues to play cover for Go-jin, and she protects him, defends him, and all-around helps him. And then, sprinkled in between are her moments of petty revenge, like sending out a company-wide email in his name that no one should ever work late again, and that he will pay for all company dinners where there shall be beef, and only beef. She even goes on a shopping spree for designer clothes with him — you know, so her future husband doesn’t appear stingy.

Speaking of company dinners, Go-jin attends his first ever (to the shock of, well, everyone), and it’s littered with ridiculous moments and physical comedy — which seems to be the MO the drama has settled into. We get hilarious moments like Go-jin’s absolute caterwauling at the company’s noreabang stop, overturned bowls of noodles, and one of the most graphic vomit-played-for-comedy scenes I have ever witnessed (I’m queasy just thinking about it).

But for all its madcap moments, the noreabang scene also shows us something important: it’s the first time we see Go-jin view Shin-ah in a favorable and — ahem — romantic light. She sings a mournful song like an angel (seriously, her voice is lovely), and we’re left wondering how in the world the drama will take the mess it’s purposefully created and get a romance a’brewing too.

In the midst of all the crazy scenarios he has to fake his way through, Go-jin is also secretly trying to figure out who was behind the hit-and-run. Go-jin has been, of course, highly (secretly) suspicious of Shin-ah, and thinks she was an accomplice, but Kang Min insists he was drunk and acting alone that night. However, with another flashback to the accident, we again see a man standing beside a nearly unconscious Go-jin, and we get a close-up of his watch.

For a genius, Go-jin is really slow at unraveling this mystery, but I guess we can’t blame him — he’s surrounded by lunatic employees, has amnesia to fake, people to fool, an old lover to avoid, a fake lover to keep tabs on, and a back-stabbing enemy that’s probably closer at hand than we all think.

That brings us to the two possible culprits of the hit-and-run. The first is the theatrical and ridiculous Yang-tae — he’s a known enemy of our hero, and whether he’s trying to wheedle information from Go-jin’s employees, or he’s plotting to take down GoTop Education, the drama doesn’t hide the fact that he’s an antagonist. But he’s also the comic relief.

Im Won-hee plays this character to the absolute nines and sometimes I don’t know if I’m cringing or laughing. (Either way, the scene with his wife in the store exemplified how this drama has everything turned up to level 10, for better or worse.) Anyway, I’ll be disappointed if Yang-tae plotted the hit-and-run, and I don’t think he did.

That leaves the other possibility, and that’s our deputy CEO Se-gi. He is all smiles and kindness and triangle kimbap, and I don’t know if it’s Ha Joon’s performance or the writing, but I didn’t trust him from the second we first saw him in Episode 1. It’s highly possible that the drama is setting him up as the back-stabbing enemy who’s close at hand — but please drama gods let this be a red herring!

We got our first clue that Se-gi might be up to something this week (his visit to the detention center to see Kang Min), and I’m just hoping he’s not the Big Bad. Not because I care about his character that much, but because I would have seen it coming from five minutes into the drama, and that’s kinda sad. Prove me wrong, Show!

Baddies aside, the best part of this week’s misadventures was the fact that even though Go-jin and Shin-ah are secretly and not-so-secretly at odds, they are also forced into teaming up, due to circumstances. My favorite example of this was probably the scene at Shin-ah’s father’s house in the countryside. The neighborhood ajusshis are forcing congratulatory shots of soju on Go-jin, who not only can’t drink but wants to drive the heck outta there ASAP. Shin-ah winds up helping Go-jin fake all the shots he’s “drinking” by dumping them in a hidden cup while she refills his glass with water. At one point, to create a distraction, she even pretends that she’s mourning the life of the crabs that are on their dinner table, and it’s all Go-jin needs to fake downing more soju. It’s hilarious.

But the drama also tries to show us some deeper moments, too, what with Go-jin and Shin-ah both experiencing the early loss of their mothers, and the accident that Shin-ah witnesses at the end of this week’s episodes. Seeing someone’s life taken so suddenly (by the Car of Doom, no less) makes her realize that maybe her situation isn’t so bad after all: she gets to knowingly say her goodbyes.

Serious (or is that mock-serious) underbelly notwithstanding, it’s definitely the quips and physical comedy that continue to be my favorite thing about the drama. Go-jin falling out of the car, Go-jin fainting flat over the “ghost,” and even Shin-ah’s line about him once needing to go to the ER after watching a horror film — I laughed a lot, and that lets me forgive the drama for being obvious, meandering, or anything in between.

I truly enjoy this drama. These two episodes cemented my obvious love for this drama after the fake amnesia came out and we got to see No Go Jin trying to not lash out his annoyances to the people around him.

Ep 6 had some heartfelt moments that I hope to see more of before we delve into the romance. You bet I squealed at that scene when he came for Shin Ah at the department store not because he saved her but because it was a rare show of humanity and it was Kim Jae wook being hot *phew*

On a side note it was so nice to hear krystal’s singing voice after so many years. That scene had me as mesmerised as it had No Go Jin.

I really like the song she was singing and now I just repeat it on Spotify haha... Her singing made me miss f(x).. I hope Kim Jae Wook and Krystal sing a duet as OST but that's not going to happen 😂

I haven’t yet watched episode 6 because I’m waiting for the subs but I can tell you, Crazy Love is a whole new level of crazy. And it’s good crazy.

I’m in love with the entire concept of both parties faking things; Shin-Ah with being a fake fiancée and Go Jin faking his amnesia. I wasn’t sure at first if he was actually faking it because the way he was having memory gaps and going along with Shin-Ah’s ruse AND not remembering his first love (who I’m not fond of already) just shows how amazing of an actor Kim Jae Wook is.

I also realized that even if the main duo are the ones who are supposedly faking things, the actual fakers are Se Gi and Soo Young because one is faking his involvement in the accident and the other is faking her affection.

I honestly love the chemistry between Krystal and Kim Jae Wook. I didn’t expect them to have this much of chemistry but knowing that the King of Chemistry is here, I should’ve looked out. I watched their BTS scenes and they’re both so adorable together. Even off cam they have chemistry.

I agree with the King of Chemistry. As someone had pointed out Kim Jae Wook can create believable chemistry even with a dead tree. 😉

I really enjoyed this week's episode, particularly ep6. I like that despite them faking the amnesia and engagement, gou can see that they are growing close to each other. GoJin is still a jerk but he is slowly changing.

I particularly like the scene at the department store with Yang Tae and his wife misunderstanding his intentions. I quite cheered when GoJin showed up to the rescue. He didn't understand why he was so triumphant after. Clueless man.

I also like the scene when Sina was helping GoJin trick the ahjusshis. The number of stunts they have pulled off to trick them, I should take notes.

Yang Tae is the obvious choice but I do not think he is the one who sent the death threats or even the mastermind of the hit-and-run. I still think its Segi or SooYoung behind it. Unless there is another character that will act sus.

I am not sure how the Show will end but I hope Sina will survive with GoJin's help.

Thanks for the weecap! I’m enjoying this drama more every week.

My money is on Segi to be the Big Bad - possibly with a fake out to make us think he is not, but then SURPRISE (or not) he is. He’s been too annoyingly nice right from the start.

The hard sell for me is going to be Go Jin as a desirable romantic partner for anyone, let alone Shin Ah - he just seems completely uninterested in anyone outside of himself. I didn’t find his display in the store impressive in any way - just wasteful.

I think the point of the store scene was to put Yang tae and his wife in their place and not protect Shin ah. He damaged the bags he forced Yang tae's wife to buy as compensation. He just wanted them to suffer and to let Shin ah know that he is the only one to embarrass her in public.

I agree he was putting them in their place rather than protecting Shin Ah, but it’s still Go Jin showing off how impressive he is that he can make them buy the damaged bags. I just find the deliberate damage wasteful - although I get that forcing them to spend that much money on a non-wasteful cause doesn’t work for making the point, because then they’d be able to spin the story in their favour.

I feel like he must have been somewhat less terrible before he became rich in the tutoring business (can you really get that rich from such a business? What new thing is his doing with math that the parents are lapping it all up year after year?) And that ex-gf is all hung up on him.

He knows the nice thing to do would be to greet his employees, but he doesn't do it. He's not ignorant; he just prefers to be a jerk.

I want Shin-Ah to get her revenge and get a second doctor's opinion. I think she's gone a bit too easy on him this week, especially when he's barely able to suppress the jerk side of himself.

I guess we will see what happened to him to make him a giant jerk - presumably there was something, people aren’t born awful and it seems like he was a nice kid.

I also want her to get a second opinion! She’s going to have a nasty situation to get out of if it turns out her reason for motivation is all a mistake 😅

It's probably his way of protecting himself. I'm interested in his back story too. We know about his childhood, his ex gf and I remember in epi 1, Segi didn't want Go-Jin to go to the special lecture with Yang Tae and Segi said Yang Tae ruined Go-Jin's life. I want to hear more about that.

Love this drama! I've always loved Krystal even tho some of her roles are that of a cold woman. But I loved her in Heirs! I think this will be another one of her memorable roles.

That store scene and the scene with the mean GoTop employee shows that he is one to throw money at a problem and not physically hurting or killing anyone. That is why I believe that Yang tae is out of the running. He would have gone after Go jin years ago when he was getting popular or even before that when he left Yang tae's company and started his own. He also invited Soo young into the fold, and she left his company and mentorship as well. He just doesn't have the psyche to plot the killing of people.

Segi is the only person as an option. I knew something was up the minute he left his phone before going on that trip overseas. And when the person that went with him said they were running late, that was another clue that he was the person at the scene after Go jin was ran over. I also think Go jin kinda thinks so as well but is in denial about putting him on his suspect wall.

My theory as to why it is Segi. He and Min were gambling together and Segi lost a ton of embezzled money and he does not want Go jin to see the books.

Or he sold off parts of the company or its secrets for the cash to bounce.

Either way, it has to do with money. Go jin loves it and wants to make a ton of it.

Episode 5 was full of laughs and Episode 6 brought out the feels, I was almost brought to tears when Shin-ah and her father were giving opposing advice to her little brother.

Krystal is really shining in this drama for me.

Alas, we were deprived of cheeky camera winks this week but I will forgive considering all the petty revenge Shin-ah got in today.

It's also hilarious that Go-jin is so confused as to why Shin-ah is doing this to him if she wasn't in cahoots with Kang-Min, like buddy, she broke into your house, piled it full of onions and kimchi slapped you with her resignation and is now currently doing everything in her power to inconvenience you - join the dots bro XD

On the who dunnit front - Se-gi seems like prime suspect territory but also from waaaaay left field, I think Soo-Young's assistant is a 100% in love with her and he's good at skulking around so... maybe?

Nahh I don't think it's Segi, everything is implying it's Segi but that would be too obvious. I bet they are trying to mislead us. I also think soo young's assistant was suspicious.. he looks so annoyed everytime she talks about Go-Jin

Segi feels too red-herring-ish. I would be disappointed if it really was him with some cliche "I'm tired of being in your shadow".

Each episode just gets better and better!!! Ep 5 was just hilarious hahah now that it's been revealed that Go-Jin us faking amnesia, his change in expression is so funny and we get to see him break the fourth wall too haha. I can't believe Kim Jae Wook acting tone deaf 🤣🤣😂 the guy can sing really well in real life... He really went all out for this and tossing his image away. I like how they were getting back at each other in epi 5.

And the tone shifted so fast in epi 6 😔. I like how they are slowly softening for each other especially Go-Jin. He actually relies on Shin-ah so much but doesn't even realize it. I feel so bad for Shin-ah at the end of ep 6. I guess now she is passed the stage of denial and is accepting her illness.

The preview says that she's going to quit.. I hope Go-Jin gets her to come back. I wonder if he will find out about her illness soon? I am so curious how their romance will continue to develop, two people at opposites coming together.. I feel so invested. Like I'm on a journey with them; their current interaction and dynamics don't feel forced at all. The chemistry between the leads is surprisingly good. I hope it's not going to end up being a tearjerker.. they gave us a lot of laughter but knowing this drama is all kinds of genre, we'll likely get a fair share of tears.

This drama is so good and deserves so much better... Can't wrap my head around the ratings 🤔

I'm dying of second hand embarrassment with Kim Jae Wook's karaoke scene. 🤣 This guy just doesn't have any inhibitions when it comes to acting. He's all out with comedy to hell with his image!!
I also agree that Gojin and Shina's dynamics don't feel forced, they still bicker and dislike each others' guts, but we can see that when they choose to work together for a common goal, they got some nice teamwork there. Gojin is also slowly catching some feelings for Shina (maybe not romantically yet) but she reminds him of what he have gone through in his past so I can see that will be a starting point of him seeing her in a different light and connecting to her.

Go-jin switches from a bit nice to a bad jerk so easily. I wasn't expecting the potato issue and yeah, both had their valid points. Si-na clearly understands where he is coming from but he doesn't even want to understand hers, especially when I thought he was on the path of understanding. It hurt.
Seeing Si-na on that list was a ridiculous point in ep 5 like, she of all people and more ridiculous was the reasons he thought she was involved - petty reasons. Just be understanding and stick to it, instead of being a jerk afterwards.

The ending sequence of episode 6 is damn to close to home a reminder for Si-na.

And I think Go-jin is still harboring feelings for Soo-young. You call see the longing in his eyes.

A lot of Beanies have commented that they hope Se Gi isn't the culprit and I concur! Just because he would be an obvious choice. He did seem to suspect and test Go Jin for a second there after the presentation though. I want the mystery behind the culprit to remain mysterious and interesting for a bit longer.

The watch was a match to one that Yang Tae wore. While the drama didn't show it on him in a super clear & foreboding way, I still hope it's not him. Again, another obvious choice. And these men could have multiple pairs of watches.

Crazy Love has a somewhat large cast and has introduced various characters so I hope the big culprit is a twisty one, but not completely random.

So much drinking.... so many bottles. /sighs/ Just used to it. The vomiting part was extremely gross. >.<

Highlight of these episodes was definitely Shin Ah and Go Jin's teamwork during the family dinner, hee. I also loved that Shin Ah kept her potatoes and refused Go Jin's annoying demand.

kim jae-wook's so good in this!! am i the only one that gets stressed out at drinking scenes where people are pressured to drink, especially to excess? i get that the writers want to show a different side of their characters, but i honestly hate it!! that said, enemies to lovers (presumably) is one of my favorite romantic tropes, so i look forward to seeing how they make this work lol.
