The 2022 Minion Tryouts: Write for Dramabeans!

Dramaland has been growing so fast it can give you whiplash — and sometimes it does. Try as we might, we haven’t had the capacity to cover all the fantastic dramas out there. If you’re passionate about dramas and would like to be a part of our crazy team, we want to hear from you. Right now we are looking for… weecappers!

What is a weecap?
Shorter than a full recap, and easier on the wrists, a weecap is a once-a-week post that covers both drama episodes that week. This kind of writing requires the ability to watch 2+ hours of a show and then be able to pull out the main points, give a quick retelling, and add a dash of personality, wit, and analysis as you go.

Submit an entry to the 2022 minion tryouts:

  • Write a weecap of Episodes 1 and 2 of one of the following dramas: Our Beloved Summer, Dal-li and Gamjatang, or The Veil.
  • This is a tryout post (and yes we’ve covered these dramas), so pretend you’re writing the first weecap of a show that’s hot off the presses and highly anticipated. In other words, the Beanies are refreshing the page every three minutes or so, waiting for your post.
  • Make sure your weecap is proofread and ready to publish. (We won’t be publishing them, but we want to see a finished product.)
  • Word count: 1,000-1,500 words
  • Screencaps not required
  • Email your weecap to hello @ dramabeans.com. We’ll accept Word or text documents, PDFs, Google docs, or weecaps written into the body of the email.
  • Finally, have fun with it! We don’t do this for the pomp and paycheck, but because dramaland has wooed our hearts, and we love to think about, write about, and talk about dramas.

Deadline: Thursday, March 31, 2022
Update: The tryouts are now over! Thank you to everyone who submitted. We are delighted by all the effort and drama love that went into them, and appreciate each one.

Wondering what comes next? If we like what we read, we’ll take you on as a trainee (the road to future minion-hood), give you an assignment, and help you get your footing. During training — whether you come on board as a permanent staff writer or not — you’ll receive a small fee per published post.

Good luck to all of the old/regular (and even new) Beanies who wanted to write some weecaps! I'm so excited to see who are the old and new Beanies who are going to weecap not only the Kdramas that currently covered but also the Kdramas that are yet to have a coverage (i.e. Kill Heel, Sponsor).

Just for the sake of clarity and because even if it's wee, recapping isn't easy, is there any pay involved in this minion gig after the tryout?

Hello dramabeans,
I'm extremely interested to take part in this assignment, but I'm a 12th grader in India, and it's one of the most important phase of our life. Will it be fine if I can submit the assignment beyond the deadline as I'm packed with exams? I truly love watching kdramas and I love blogging too! Can I get in touch with you ?

I love k-drama and I'm definitely going to submit. I love to write and I think I can do a good job. I know this is for love and writing experience and not for money, but just curious what you would pay accepted writers? Thank you.

do we submit a weecap from all the dramas you mentioned or do we get to just pick one for the 1500 words limit submission? I'm very much interested since I have the time now to watch kdramas than before and i do love to writes and read recaps here.

Hello dramabeans !
I know that I'm reaching out to you way past the deadline, but will you still accept entries ? I would love to be a weecapper. Will it be okay if I send the weecap to the above mentioned G-mail in a few days' time ?
