Song Ji-hyo serves wishes in The Witch’s Diner, with Nam Ji-hyun, Chae Jong-hyeop

A new video teaser has been released for TVING’s upcoming fantasy drama The Witch’s Diner, featuring the lead actors: Song Ji-hyo (Was It Love), Nam Ji-hyun (365: Repeat the Year), and Chae Jong-hyeop (Sisyphus).

Set in a mysterious restaurant where customers can buy wishes off the menu, Song Ji-hyo takes on the central role as a witch named Hee-ra.

Although human, Nam Ji-hyun’s character Jin somehow becomes Song’s business partner. And they hire Chae Jong-hyeop, who plays part-timer Gil-yong, to also work at their restaurant.

The teaser opens with the restaurant’s eerie décor and Song Ji-hyo beckons to the viewers through the text screens: Come on in,” and “I’ll grant you your wishes.” As she serves a dish to Lee Kyu-hyung (Hi Bye, Mama), she explains, “Your wish will come true when you eat the food I make. I will grant you one wish.” Nam Ji-hyun hesitates and responds, “I want… revenge.”

Cut to dramatic music as the text screens warn, “Wishing is free. Granting it requires payment.” Chae Jong-hyeop looks conflicted as he stands atop a high-rise building and, in a sequence of quick shots, we see different people suffering the consequences of their wishes. The appearing text screen explains that the drama, “recharges the soul” but is a “cruel fantasy,” and introduces the main cast: Song Ji-hyo, Nam Ji-hyun, and Chae Jong-hyeop.

We see Nam in danger of falling off a cliff and Song grabs her arm to save her. Song Ji-hyo tells her, “Make your choice. Right now. But… there is a price to pay.” The teaser comes to a close with Nam Ji-hyun asking Song who she is. Handing her a business card, Song responds, “Me? A witch.”

Written by Lee Young-sook and directed by PD’s So Jae-hyun (Awaken) and Lee Soo-hyun, TVING’s new fantasy drama The Witch’s Diner premieres next month on July 16.

I am interested in this series. It seems to be a merger of Hotel de Luna and Mystic Pop Up Bar with its own mythical twist. Since this a Korean streaming platform, I wonder if international fans will have access to it.

I suspect that Song Ji Hyo has wanted to do a character like this for many years--she usually gets the squarest roles--and finally someone gave her the chance. Looks like she is planning to act the heck out of it.

If nam ji hyun chose it, it's worth watching. Looks intriguing. I'm not usually a fan of song ji hyo's acting but this looks like a great character for her.

I am not a big Song Ji-hyo fan either but she can deliver a decent performance.

Enjoyed both Hotel del Luna and Mystic Pop Up Bar. I really like this little sub-genre of Mystical/Supernatural places run by non-human.

I and my wife loved both shows, but technically HOTEL DEL LUNA was run by a very human Man-whol- whose aging had simply been suspended and who in fact dies at the end of the story.

Technically its true that she was human but anyone who has lived for more than 900 years can't really be considered a human human

Old Jewish saying: "Be careful what you pray for, for God will surely grant it to you". I do not know if Buddhists have a similar saying but I suspect that they do. The central idea of this show has certainly been done before- But if done well can become a very good story, This show will rise or fall on its writing.

I will check it out when it airs.
