Premiere Watch: King of Pigs

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: TVING
Genre: Thriller, mystery, drama
Episode count: 12

TVING’s latest offering takes acclaimed director Yeon Sang-ho’s animated film, and transforms it into a long-form drama. With a well-crafted story to ground it, and Kim Dong-wook and Kim Sung-kyu in the lead, I have no doubt that this will be intense. The thriller tells the story of a serial murder case and a mysterious message left behind that creates links to the past. School bullying is at the root of the drama and its characters, and the original story is even based on Yeon Sang-ho’s own experiences in his youth. Phew, I don’t even need to watch a second of this drama — I can feel the catharsis a mile away. And I think that’s enough proximity for me, because it looks like a dark, difficult, and gory road ahead.

Kim Dong-wook is totally playing against type here and that makes me very excited to see what he can do. I’m always down to see actors completely reinvent themselves artistically and do something that blows me away. Plus, I really like Kim Sung-kyu and Chae Jung-an as well. This has the potential to be very good - grit and brutality notwithstanding.

From the materials released so far this looks intense. The 12 episode format is a plus too imo. Please be good!

Oh it's only 12 episodes~~ Excited to see Kim Dong Wook in this! I've seen him in various roles. I like that he keeps trying different genres.

I want to try this, but I wonder if it will even get subbed. I haven't seen where it has been licenced anywhere. It seems like if the actors and/or genre aren't popular ones, we never get to see it.

I saw on twitter that it's available with Indo and Thai sub on the bilibili app (in certain regions). It is Tving's original so hopefully after the initial air if reception is good it could get picked up by another platform. Worse case if not, it'll probably be available with subtitles from illegal streaming sites. Dr Park's Clinic got subbed and I would think this is Tving's bigger scale drama seeing how much they're promoting it atm.
