KBS romance drama casts Kim Jae-wook and Krystal as leads

Kim Jae-wook, Krystal

Romance unfolds between a hagwon boss and his secretary in upcoming KBS drama, Crazy Love. Recently, it was announced that Kim Jae-wook (Voice 4) and Krystal (Police University) will be featuring as the main characters.

Kim Jae-wook plays the prickly boss, Noh Go-jin, with an interesting back story. He’s only a high school graduate (a big flaw in academically-focused Korea), but he became a celebrity math lecturer at the best hagwon in the country, GOTOP. In no time at all, he made it to the CEO position through hard work and his smarts (his IQ is 190). Despite being high intelligent and good-looking, he has a knack for putting people off with his extreme narcissism. When he receives a serious death threat, it upends all the plans he had for his future.

Krystal plays Lee Shin-ah, the diminutive secretary with no backbone. Although she’s loyal and hardworking, she’s so introverted and shy that her presence hasn’t really left an impression on anyone. However, after withstanding a year of working as Noh Go-jin’s secretary, she’s beginning to receive some respect from her peers. Then, she learns that she has a terminal illness with only a little more time left to live.

Just when it seemed like the boss-secretary storyline had been exhausted, dramaland comes up with a celebrity math lecturer and a terminally ill secretary lol. At any rate, I’m looking forward to seeing Kim Jae-wook again and to seeing Krystal break out of the stoic tough girl mold.

Written by Kim Bo-kyum and directed by Kim Jung-hyun (My Fellow Citizens, Jugglers), Crazy Love will air on iQIYI and KBS on Mondays and Tuesdays, starting next year.

If death means she has nothing left to lose, maybe she will suddenly start to express all those things she's been politely holding in, and become the only one who can put her self-absorbed boss in his place.

Of course, she either got a mistaken diagnosis, or her genius boss will help find a cure.

I'm fairly certain you've just accurately mapped *exactly* how the drama will unfold. Ah, dramaland predictability... (I say that mostly with fondness). Really the only thing that is not perfectly clear how it will play out is that casting. 50% of it will definitely be a surprise...

Personally, I doubt that Krystal can pull it off. She has five facial expressions, one of which is the ever-present biting her lip.
Skip.

I know Krystal has been in some noteworthy (for good or bad) dramas but in all candor, I cannot remember her, which may be a criticism in of itself, but your comment reminded me of Dorothy Parker's crack, "Miss Hepburn ran the whole gamut of emotions—from A to B."

Yes, I'm at a loss to think of 5 expressions she has shown. Pretty much 2. When I learn she is in a drama, I cringe and seriously consider skipping it. I don't understand how she continues to get cast.

Well, you said it! It was too kind to say there are five expressions, wasn’t it? All I can think of are Blank, Not Blank aka “Thinking” and the lip biting.

Krystal is starting to develop Jin Se Yeon vibes for me - an actress who seems to get every chance in the world and cast again and again, and I can never understand why. It’s not even that I dislike them! Just that as soon as they crop up in a cast I know that role’s pretty much going to be what’s written on the paper and that’s it.

I wish the industry would stop pushing people into lead roles when they haven’t succeeded in prior supporting roles. Both for the audience and for the actor; surely it can’t be fun to feel out of your depth in a production.

This is a criminal waste of Kim Jae Wook.

I realized last week that part of why I hate the second FL in Yumi’s Cells is that she reminds me of Krystal.

Sigh, I was so excited he was a lead again and then I saw Krystal. I like her, but she is only good in specific roles. I wish they had chosen another FL, but I will check out for our Lion,, Ryan Gold. 😘

i laff, cuz i am also one who has it (it's genetic, the only option is to constantly be smiling, but that's really hard to do). but that isn't my problem with krystal - she was good in her (small) role in Prison Playbook, but i don't think i can climb onto this bandwagon... tho i would love to, with Kim Jae Wookie..........

Another odd actor pairing.
Krystal's character sounds similar to FL in Scent of a Woman and I feel a bit cruel comparing her to Kim Sun-a.

I watched Voice 4. Did i miss his short appearance/cameo somewhere? He was brilliant as a villain in Voice 1.

Anyway I thot Krystal has improved when i saw the first few Police University episodes than she just got boring and stayed one note. Probably the writing doesnt help. So it will take me more than Kim Jae wook to make me wanna watch anything with her in it again.

He has a short appearance, just a flashback scene from Voice 1, haunting Dae Shik. It's in Episode 4 of Voice 4.

Definitely here for Kim Jae Wook. I havent seen Krystal in anything yet.
Sometimes I wish that shy or introverted (can be two separate things) wasn't always seen as something that needs to be changed pr break out of.

Excited for Kim Jae Wook! But the rest is not so exciting. Another boss & secretary setup. Argh.

I wonder what is so 'crazy' about this couple. Is there gonna be any hijinks or humor too? Seems not with the serious elements thrown in like the death threat and terminal illness..... .....

My love for Kim Jae-wook cannot overshadow the skepticism I have towards Krystal as the FL. Hopefully she’s improved since the last time I saw her onscreen. If not… well, I can always just rewatch the first half of Her Private Life. Nothing’s topping that pairing anytime soon.

It always kinda stings to admit an idol you like is a bad actor. But even as a longtime f(x) fan (never getting over them disbanding), I cannot bring myself to say that Krystal is anything more than passable as an actress.

Krystal in another drama after another drama is so like Philippine drama environment. An actress who struck gold in one project was put to three successive dramas until I got sick of her face. Kim Jae Wook 😭

Kim Jae-wook will be in a drama next year?! Yes, please. Not sure how I feel about Krystal being the co-lead though. I like her, but I would have preferred to see him with a more seasoned, nuanced actress. Either way, I like them both so I'll check it out. And KJW needs to be in more dramas and movies and everything else.

KJW: Yes!!
Krystal: well...
My Fellow Citizens PD: could be...
Plot: Really?
I have an iQIYi subs, so I'll give it a try, but I'm tired of Cold CEO and Candy secretaries, tbh. I'd rather stick to @yyishere story.

BRUH.
Is my immediate reaction to this casting.

Krystal opposite KJW?
I insist on my deep reservations & skepticism as her acting has yet to please OR impress me.

I remain open to miracles and/or pleasant surprises.

Ok, am in. Krystal or not. I think I dropped most of the kdramas she's in except for Prison Playbook and The Heirs. Maybe not because of her solely but just that it got boring - Bride of Habaek, Search and Police University.
I think she is most memorable as the brat sis in High Kick 3 and as high maintenance girlfriend in The Heirs. And maybe I have more time then to focus. When subs got better and there are legit streaming sites, it's so easy to just drop Kdramas when it gets boring and there are so many choices unlike before.
So let's hope her character is some spunky ass secretary, c'mon, it's THe Kim Jae Wook, she better not waste it.
Aren't we glad that he gets main lead nowadays and not just some psycho villain roles? We need to see that face!

Bride of Habaek was nadir Krystal for me. Every time she showed up it was like someone hitting a flat key on a piano. And that show wasn’t exactly a finely-crafted masterpiece!

Still, you’d think that any show that is romance- or melo-adjacent would want an actress who can emote and connect with scene partners. And that’s what VERY much alarms me here, especially as KJW just did astonishing things through nuance and body language with a character who could’ve come across entirely differently in Her Private Life. Surely there were other choices available. I mean, I’d rather see him in something else versus carrying an entire show himself.

After I dropped Police University after 12 episodes, I realized I'm in for the next Krystal project. Even the series I'm in, I knew that there was a definition of hagwon means according to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagwon):

Korean-language word for a for-profit private institute, academy, or cram school prevalent in South Korea. Although most widely known for their role as "cram schools", where children can study to improve test scores, hagwons actually perform several educational functions:

- supplementary education that many children need just to keep up with the regular school curriculum
- remedial education for the children who fall behind in their work
- training in areas not covered in schools
- preparation for students striving to improve test scores and preparing for the high school and university entrance examinations (the university entrance exam is also called suneung (수능))

I knew that Shin-ah will die with a tragic ending so I can't wait for this.

Kim Jae Wook? A definite YES! Kyrstal? A definite NO!

Why, Why, Why is she his next leading lady? This is a certain downgrade from Park Min Young. His chemistry with her in Her Private Life was fantastic and oh so memorable. I have been waiting with anticipation for his next drama so I am doubly disappointed in this pairing.

I will probably watch the first episode only because I'm starved to see KJW again. I usually don't bother with Kdramas when the lead actress is mediocre. As the other commenters have said, Kyrstal is a one note actress and does ok being that same type of character.

Kim Jae Wook deserves an actress who measures up to his talent. Kyrstal is not that actress.

I was so excited to see Kim Jae wook coming back on screen, because he is one of my favourite korean actors with dashing good looks matching with great acting . But seeing his new project with a bland FL and another common storyline,i feel like to give this drama a miss. I wish he is chosen for some intense cold mysterious role. He just nails those roles.
