Premiere Watch: Welcome to Wedding Hell, Kiss Sixth Sense

With tvN’s Eve getting pushed back, our premieres this week are of the streaming variety, with KakaoTV and Disney+ offering a rom-com apiece. Although streaming service airing schedules and licensing often leaves us with a giant question mark, one thing without a question mark is the casting. Lots of fun actors to enjoy here. *Go Kim Ji-suk*!

Welcome to Wedding Hell

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday
Broadcaster: KakaoTV
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: Lee Jin-wook back so soon after sucking Lee Joon’s blood in Bulgasal? I’m not complaining, even if the thought of a wedding planning rom-com isn’t my favorite. But I’ll tune in anyway — for the cast, for the short 30-minute run time, and for the fun of KakaoTV dramas, which can be hidden gems. There’s no guarantee, of course, but going based on Mad For Each Other, I’m hopeful we’ll have something fun and zingy here.

Kiss Sixth Sense

Time slot: Wednesdays
Broadcaster: Disney+
Genre: Rom-com, fantasy
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: More casting wins this way, with Yoon Kye-sang, Seo Ji-hye, and Kim Ji-suk front-lining. The drama might have a wacky premise and (already) look like a bit of a hot mess, but I’m kind of ready? Maybe it’s because our drama fare has been a bit serious of late, but I’m looking forward to something a little crazy with a trope cherry on top. Can this be the drama for me?

I didn’t know Welcome to Wedding Hell has 30 minute episodes. Just today, I was wondering if there was something that could convince me to check this out because the premise wasn’t doing it for me. The short runtime might be the answer. Easy way to stack up my year-end watch list.

Kiss Sixth Sense sounds like such a hot mess, but I am so ready for it. That cast is way too good for what sounds like the synopsis of a low-budget webdrama, but I just know that if it’s any good, I’ll be obsessed. Poor Kim Ji-suk stuck in second lead purgatory is sad though.

Wedding Hell is ONLY 12 episodes too! Not nearly enough time to cram in clichés / unnecessary plot devices that no one asked for. Or so we hope.

For why does Disney + keep doing this, the kdrama format does not lend itself to an episode a week. The writers haven't figured out the American formula, and that is fine, sigh. I'll watch anyway. Wedding Hell is on Netflix, so I shall watch

It's been a month or so, but I haven't been able to access kdramas from Disney+ in the US. What is their business plan?

One episode a week. Instead of two episodes a week. It works with American shows because that is how we have formatted our TV, but the way kdramas are written and filmed isn't suitable to the 1 episode a week format. I am not sure if that is the question you are asking, but that is how I read it. Sorry if that is not what you were asking.

Yoon Kye Sang with glasses is reminding me of Yoon Pil Joo.

definitely will check both shows because I like the 5 leads
I did't watch the teasers, didn't read the shows' premise, just to ensure I'm coming to both blindly, I don't want to be disappointed! :D

for the Kakao's one, I love all the 3 leads, but the order of my faves in this would be KJS>SJH>YKS. so I'm echoing others who's questioning why oh why Kim Ji Suk is taking second lead role again, I don't think I'll be happy to see him not getting the girl.
anyhow, please be good, shows!
