Yumi’s Cells returns for season 2 with love in the air for Kim Go-eun and Jinyoung

A new video teaser has been released for the second season of Yumi’s Cells, which will be launching on TVING in just over one week.

Picking up where the last season left off, our heroine Kim Go-eun (The King: Eternal Monarch) is back in the central role of Yumi and is only starting to feel ready for romance. Despite her reservations, though, Cupid’s arrows are now firmly pointing at co-worker Bobby – played by Got7’s Jinyoung (The Devil Judge) – who also returns in this new season.

The newly released teaser begins with Jinyoung asking, “Can you wait a bit for me?” and the cells go into group rallying mode. He remarks afterwards, “It feels nice, you waiting for me,” and in the next sequence we see him constantly pop up next to Kim Go-eun at work. Kim can’t stop thinking about him, remembering that he said, “If I meet someone, I’m going to enjoy spending time with just the two of us,” and her guard cells are done for when Jinyoung calls her pretty.

Although pleased by the attention, Kim Go-eun tells herself that she can’t give her heart to Jinyoung and tries to avoid him at work – not even getting on the elevator with him. One inner cell humble brags that she’s undeserving of his love and Kim tries to hold back a smile as she grumbles, “These situations are so hard for me.”

We then jump to a work dinner, where Lee Yubi (You Who Forgot Poetry) wonders why Jinyoung doesn’t go on blind dates. She and Mi Ram (Money Game) lean in for his response, but he simply says that he’s not sure. As Kim Go-eun gulps down her beer, one of her cells curses that Lee’s never been a help.

Upon returning to the office, Lee Yubi happily reports that Jinyoung finally agreed to be introduced to her friend and it’s a sobfest for the cells. But Jinyoung makes another request to Kim Go-eun saying, “If it’s not uncomfortable for you, please wait for me.” The teaser then comes to a close with Kim running back as her cell cheers her on.

On the production side, we’re in the reliable hands of the first season’s writers, Song Jae-jung and Kim Kyung-ran. PD Lee Sang-yub also returns as the director, sharing the work this time with PD Joo Sang-kyu. Season 2 of Yumi’s Cells premieres next week on June 10.

Omg, I’m already squeeing so hard!!! Jinyoung’s puppy eyes are going to be the death of me. And Kim Go Eun being such a great actress will not ever disappoint me. Looking forward to this one the most in these next couple weeks!

Yay, Yumi’s cells is back. I am so looking forward to this series. I see it as the grown ups version of Inside Out and I can’t wait to see how the drama compares to the webtoon. Season one was true to the story so hoping season two will stay on track too. There are two things I won’t have to worry about: it will be funny and the acting will be on point.

Is it me or it is weird to keep referring to the actors names instead of the characters? It does my head in.
Also, any Beannies know why the character in the Manhwa is called Babi as it doesn’t sound like a Korean name but of course I could be mistaken.
I’m so looking forward to this starting notwithstanding the creepy teeth of some of the cells which freak me out.

Thanks for saying that I kept getting confused about which character was being referred to before I registered it was the name of the actor playing the part!

Please show me which cells’ teeth? I watched the trailer twice but don’t know who I need to freeze frame on🤣

@reply1988: Thanks for your backup!
I have to think but it will come to me. Not all of them have it but IIRC in season 1, a few of them have it and they bare these things when they get mad!🥹

Ok no worries, if it shows up in the second season just let me know the emotion/JD of the cells and I will check them out! 👀

@reply1988: For sure! I know I’ve told you this before but your user name gives me endless pleasure. I love that series so much notwithstanding my central disappointment

Solidarity with you on the creepy teeth, @dncingemma. Gives me the chills just looking at ‘em. True horror material.

Oh god, I am so EXCITED for this season. Not even the creepy-looking cells can dampen my enthusiasm. Jinyoung and Kim Go-eun are such an inspired pairing (not looking forward to the inevitable breakup rip), I love it.

@dncingemma: Always a pleasure to talk to you too. And don’t worry, you didn’t remind me of the creepy cells, my mind just automatically remembers anytime there’s even a mention of the drama or its characters.

@ladynightshade: I haven’t read the manhwa but saw a reference somewhere that YB is one of the people Yumi ends up dating. Is that why you mentioned the ‘inevitable breakup’?

I read somewhere there are three seasons of Yumi’s cells and after the Kimchi slap round the face ending of season one knowing this makes one highly suspicious! Besides the webtoon went on for five years so there is bound to be complications.

@dncingemma: Oh no, I feel like I just spoiled something big for you. I really shouldn’t have said anything, even as just a joke recalling back to season 1. It’s just that I thought most people caught the “3 seasons = 3 love interests” pattern. I’m truly sorry for inadvertently spoiling you. Believe me, I’m not too happy either - Babi is long-term boyfriend material all while literally looking like an idol.

@ladynightshade: We are doing it gratis for Junho and are not sasaengs so a total win for him!😂

Literally BEING an idol. 😂 But now that the cat is out of the bag, when the third boyfriend was rumored to be played by Yang Sejong, I nearly had the stroke. I don’t know if that is true, but not many actors will be able to top Jinyoung, I would take him over Jinyoung. 😂 Any actors you would like to see as the 3rd boyfriend/ husband? I hope we at least get a clue during the series who he’ll be!

I have another one: Jung Hae-In.

@Ally: Ohoy, Junho?

3

I'm thinking Lee Joon, but I think I'm being farfetched.

2

Hae: Why not? Admittedly, Lee Joon seems far too intense and serious for light-hearted fare such as this but good actors have range!

I feel like Gong Myung would be perfect

1

@ally-le I didn't read the webtoon, so I don't know if Jung Hae-In fits the character but just for a reunion after Tune in for Love and Goblin, I will be 100% for it :p

4

You guys all went with the elite choices, damn. I would take them all. I’ll put in Lee Soo-hyuk’s name in the running because why not? Not his type of role + idk if he actually fits the third boyfriend’s character, but I’d do anything for this man to be a romcom lead.

P.S. Thank you to @dncingemma for representing the Junho agenda. I admire your dedication as always.

2

@ladynightshade: You and a few other Beannies have been such persuasive advocates for Lee Soohyuk and brought me around. He definitely has presence as an actor, is memorable and as a bonus, has one of those rare and subtle smiles which reconfigures his face to a much softer one. Glorious.

1

@kurama: ‘Tune in for love’ was the first KFilm with a love story that I saw. I liked it so much. They should be reunited so a good suggestion!

jackson wang.

jackson can't act (or can he?). but i am sad that GOT7 broke up even tho they did a comeback album...

When I watched season 1 I didn't know Woong wasn't her endgame because I haven't read the webtoon.

Now, I don't know how I feel knowing Babi is also not her endgame before I get to watch which means there will be a third season 😅

He is a great character and I was on team Babi as soon as he appeared as an option as he seemed a better fit than Woong even though I really liked Woong he was too proud for his own good.

Enjoy the binge watch. I think it will be one of those seasons where you won’t necessarily have to have watched the first season to understand the current. Getting to know the role of the cells and meeting the friends will probably be set up in the first episode to get everyone up to speed and refreshed as its been a year I think since season 1. I am impressed they must have done the animation ages ago as usually that takes years but I guess as it’s usually only a small part of the episodes they don’t have too many minutes to cover over the course of the whole season.

I am excited for this!!
...but...as someone that basically never gets swayed by second leads, (no SLS for me lol) and considering that in season one Babi at times felt to me like the second lead, I'm not sure about this new relationship yet (also because of some spoilers from the webtoon)...

Basically I'm still mourning the sinking of Yumi-Woong ship after finishing S1 a couple weeks ago and I'll need time to get used to it! 😭🤣

But I loved the first season, and the concept, so I'm totally on board for this new season too!! ^^

I really liked Woong too so was gutted when it ended as they could have worked it out with some open talking. Babi is definitely long term material so I was thinking he will have the staying power.

Same. I didn't like Babi in season one so I don't know how long it will take for me to like the couple this season.
But I trust the show I know it'll be fun.

I've never liked the way Jin-young acts, but he is so hardworking. You can tell on the screen and behind it that he is passionate about his work and gives his all to improve. He is also immensely ADORABLE! How, why must he be this adorable? I might be watching this season. Ahn Bo-hyun was great as well, but I got spoiled for the first season. Though, I can't really use that as an excuse. I had read the webtoon before there was even news of an adaptation!

I'm (re)watching season 1 with a friend. We're in EP 6, which means I'll be watching both seasons at the same time (I'm definitely not waiting for my friend to finish season 1, I don't have that thing called patience).

Maybe it'll be a mess, maybe I'll have fun. Who knows.
Wish me luck.

Bring it on! I've been waiting for all of these months. As someone who doesn't like animation that much, Yumi's cells has a unique way of growing on you. They are so profound, that you want to keep seeing the cells. I went into the first season blank, knowing nothing but i was spoiled on the way that Yumi and Woong won't be end game. As much as I would've wanted then to start the second season right away or make it one 30 episode drama, I feel this is a stronger strategy to give a break so that woong, yumi shippers can let go of their ship. I'm as ready for yumis new relationship as she is (even if i didn't like Yoo Babi last season). Nonetheless, the show is much more about ayumi's growth through her relationships than the relationships themselves. So yeah, bring it on, my second slice of life romance of the year after 25, 21.

I agree it is about Yumi’s growth more than the relationships she has, we saw that when we saw her in the cell village talking about prioritisation. Even after her break up that put the love cell in a coma she was all or nothing in her love life again. Woong remained consistent in his approach to relationships too.
I wonder about your theory of the pros and cons of one long season over breaking it down into three distinct seasons over three years. It’s like we need the down time to prep so we avoid a ‘we prefer the previous boyfriend’ syndrome which is a cousin of second lead syndrome!

The cells were missed!! Those balls of sunshine just have this ability of growing on you. The creators should definitely make all kinds of merchandise! Good luck though, if they creep you out. Hehe.
And Kim Ga-eun is perfect!

I think their marketing department has already set it up look on Redbubble. They have the tv version and the webtoon version of Yumi!

There was a scene in a recent drama, I think it was 'Sh*tting Stars', where someone at a crowded restaurant table asked 'Who here has dated more than ten people?' Multiple hands went up from some unexpected characters. In 'Yumi's cells' our heroine has dated a grand total of two people. That means they could run this series for another eight years.

I only started watching Yumi's Cells Season 1 for Jinyoung because I thought I wouldn't like the story. But the cells convinced me and from the first episode I liked everything. So I don't care about the finale, but the journey. As far as I know, there is no season 3 that some people write about here. Yumi's story closes in 2 season. There was never a question of 3 seasons. I know because I read and watch all the materials about this drama.

FYI. It would be nice if people stopped spreading these rumors about GOT7. They are still together as a group, planning to be together for many years. Even if they come back every few years, they will come back. They probably have to repeat it in every speech, because some people do not understand that when they say something it is true.
